What are some accounting opportunities for a failing student?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:28 PM PST

I accept that the fact that I am not as good as everyone else. I have failed intermediate accounting more than two times, and the class isn't getting easier for me. My GPA is under a 3.0, so the chances of me getting into public accounting is very slim.

I don't have the discipline or the motivation to strive for my CPA.

This self-reflection is a major blow to my self-esteem, but I am glad I don't have to keep telling myself that I can become a CPA. How should I move forward? I am a loser relative to my peers.

What are the opportunities available for me?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:06 PM PST

A MS in Accounting is the go-to for many but pairing a BSBA in Accounting with another one-year masters is a good way to distinguish yourself. What other programs are beneficial if the goal is a public firm?

I am a university student who has been researching accounting for a project about career paths, is there anyone on here who would be willing to give me a (very) brief overview of their career for a short case study?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:12 PM PST

I would be very thankful if someone (who has preferably been in the industry for a few years now) could give me some basic insight into the career path they have taken.

    Information ideally would include:

    -Degree discipline

    -Interships or Work Experience undertaken

-Titles of jobs held, and nature of employer

    -Professional qualifications obtained (ACA/CA?)

-Other jobs held before doing accountancy

I understand that this information could be considered quite personal, but even a very general description would be of immense use to me. I would be especially delighted if someone from the UK could help me out on this, as that is where I am based.

Do you have to pay taxes on money earned from YouTube Adsense if it’s below the untaxed amount allowed in your country?

And if it is within the untaxed amount in your country, do you still have to report it?

Replaced a position that did a lot of manual updating and want some advice

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:31 PM PST

Some background: After 5 years of being an auditor in public accounting, I took a position as a financial reporting manager at a mid sized NPO. I am replacing someone who has been there for 25 years. She is staying on for 4 months to teach me her ways. It's been about 2 weeks so far and I am noticing she does alot of things manually (hard keying numbers, updating pledge details manually, updating payments received manually in multiple spreadsheets, etc.). I am just worried that I might miss something that she has done in the past because there's so manual adjustments to her spreadsheets. I know I can probably create some efficiencies once I'm on my own.

I just was wondering if anyone has advice on how they transitioned into a position where there is a lot of manual updating and inefficiencies. I am just worried I might miss something or might forget something and mess up the process.

Anyone know how to find the Pfx Engagement files using SSMS?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:19 PM PST

I'm trying to find the workpaper files inside the Pfx Engagement database. Ultimately I'd like to extract the files using an SSIS package, but I can't find the files inside the database. I was expecting the files to be saved in a BLOB, but I'm not having any luck finding them. Any suggestion?

Hello everyone! I have a couple of questions I need answered:

Do I need to submit the NY State Registered Program Form if I already have the required credits from a US university that is AACSB? If I take one section and fail it, how to I go about taking it again in the next testing period besides paying another fee?

To Deloitte or Not to Deloitte

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:15 PM PST

Currently working in a Canadian office of a global mid market firm as an assistant manager in tax and was contacted by a Deloitte recruiter to discuss potentially moving to Deloitte. I have a call scheduled for tomorrow and am wondering what insight people have about Deloitte. Will I be pigeon holed into just doing FIT calculations or other compliance stuff? How good are the growth and development opportunities?
