r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Oct 04, 2019 Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:06 AM PDT This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well. See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned. Apple raises iPhone 11 production by about 10%, Nikkei reports Posted: 04 Oct 2019 04:10 AM PDT Apple has asked suppliers to increase production of its iPhone 11 models by up to 8 million units, or about 10%, Nikkei Asian Review reported on Friday. Sources cited by Nikkei said that the recent surge in iPhone orders is concentrated in the cheapest iPhone 11 model and the iPhone 11 Pro model. Stock is up about 2% premarket. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2019 12:16 PM PDT Shttps://finance.yahoo.com/news/t-mobile-sprint-merger-majority-145340050.html "T-Mobile US Inc.'s proposed merger with Sprint Corp. has received a third "yes" vote at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, moving the deal toward agency approval in coming days, according to two people familiar with the matter." Cards on the table I've been watching this story for a good while and am long on Sprint because I believe their merge into T-Mobile will make them a powerhouse in the 5G market and the amount of potential they will have on the entire market share of cellular companies is huge. Any stories about Wells Fargo underwriting? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:58 AM PDT I heard a story in another subreddit where a guy said wells recently gave him a home equity loan and the appraiser didn't even bother coming inside. Anyone heard any more stories about underwriting getting lax again? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2019 06:20 AM PDT So about a year ago, I invested in about three or four different cannabis stocks. I saw how more and more states were starting to decriminalize and legalize and thought it would be a good idea. For many months, the stocks continued to creep up slowly at a healthy pace. Then all of a sudden, took a sharp nose dive, to where my investments are like -40%. I'm not well versed in stocks and trading but I like to dabble and teach myself. Anyone know why all of a sudden all of the cannabis stocks just massively plummeted at the same time? I'm sure there's a reason for it that I'm just not privy to. TIA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:01 PM PDT I think I understand how stock dilution works, but does that mean that in some cases a stock will be static at the price the new shares were offered? OVID recently offered new shares at 2.50 and the stock has been remarkably consistent all day. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:14 AM PDT I have $300 to invest in a want to splurge on an ETF, I've thought about BOTZ since they are dealing with automation, which is going to have a greater presence in the future with retail, manufacturing, healthcare and driving. Are there any other good ones? [link] [comments] |
How do I check history of stock price? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:40 PM PDT Looking for the biggest move a stock had without having to check every bar. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
For those who invest in both ETFs and stocks, what's your strategy? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 06:49 AM PDT I've always had some of both in my portfolio and it's worked well but I want to hear the rationale of others who do the same. Looking for information regarding asset allocation, time horizon, split between stock/ETF, and diversification. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
$IGPK Keep watch for next week. CEO just hinted at 3 major transactions/acquisitions about to close. Posted: 04 Oct 2019 06:46 AM PDT From CEO:

Proteostasis Therapeutics $PTI Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:10 AM PDT They have enough cash to fund their P2 without a problem, which will be the real test for their doublet & triplet combinations. They are applying for the most efficient advancements with the appropriate agencies, not being reckless w/ their general expenses, presenting their Phase 1 data whenever possible, and proactively seeking partnering opportunities, even with $88M in cash/equivalents on their balance sheet. I mean, we all must understand that trials take time to commence and complete, especially with rare diseases such as CF. Also, Jeff Leiden, Exec Chair of Vertex, said they are looking at "M&A pacts in the very near future...[focusing on] 'Anything in CF that could be complementary.'" Endpoints News, August 1st. Clearly, as Mr. Leiden points out, Vertex triplet has set a high bar with 14.3% in ppFEV1 and -41.8% in sweat chloride, but that's at 24 weeks. PTI's triplet reached 56% of Vertex's #s w/ no plateau in 14 days. -copied from Jennx6 on StockTwits [link] [comments] |

With negative economic data this week , can we realistically expect a rate cut this month? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 10:58 PM PDT Market is expecting a rate cut via Jerome Powell . After the last rate cut , and the statements he made in the following press conference, I don't think he will . [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2019 09:02 AM PDT "According to New Residential, those assets included Ditech's forward Fannie Mae, Ginnie Mae and non-agency mortgage servicing rights portfolio, which carried an aggregate unpaid principal balance of approximately $62 billion as of Aug. 31, 2019." So they paid $1.2 Billion for a potential $62 Billion+ return. Without diluting the stock. And the share price has dropped on this news. Anyone willing to shed some light on this? [link] [comments] |
What's with the hate on trading inverse ETFs? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 08:32 AM PDT DGAZ and UGAZ is the easiest way to make money, but nobody talks about it and everyone rips on it. I've made a ton off dgaz and ugaz [link] [comments] |
What if Netflix and Disney just merged? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:51 AM PDT I know this probably won't happen, but I can see DIS having some challenges with their streaming services. I can't think of a clear negative for either party if they merged, either. [link] [comments] |
What would you buy with $125 billion? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:29 PM PDT Costco, maybe Honeywell, NVDA but their PE at 45.26x is a bit of a put off, otherwise a bunch of well performing mid caps. If I had the money I'd buy Disney! [link] [comments] |
Best short term investments in your opinion? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:12 PM PDT |
Is there any way to identify the next potential PCG? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:35 PM PDT Utility stocks tend to be of the lower risk investments. With that being said PG&E (Symbol PCG) has proven otherwise thus far as they were partly at fault for causing destructive California wildfires. Their stock plunged from $60 a share to less than $10 and hasn't recovered. My question is, how does one go about protecting themselves against such occurrences when doing DD on a stock? (Besides stop losses). Example, NEE is currently over $200 a share. Is it safe to say that a nuclear plant accident causing death and damages and they can lose 90% of their value? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:10 AM PDT Hey people! I am a 22 year old, complete novice into the world of trading! I'd much rather put the effort and learn how to trade on my own, instead of going to a broker firm but the whole thing is like learning a new language! Now, i don't mind doing that, but i would really really appreciate a good source.. preferably books. Could you help me out please? :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:54 PM PDT This might be an r/Advice but I figured I would get much better answers here, currently I own a few shares in the cannabis industry I need some odd guidance on where to go from here, pardon my inexperienced ways. [link] [comments] |
sometime we got to chase them $CHK and $NIO Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:21 PM PDT $CHK: Why this stock? well we are know that oil prices is increasing but not by the oil index but by interests of trading (trade-war tax). This company has been a swing and always jump back up and never fail me. I believe it will safe. https://www.quora.com/Why-some-people-believe-the-Stock-market-is-run-by-a-God [link] [comments] |
