GE freezes pensions for 20,000 employees; stock surges

I'm not sure I'd personally phrase a 2.6% gain as "surging" - just copying the headline.

    Any fellow contrarian investors?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 06:01 PM PDT

Just curious. What contrarian indicators do you use for individual stocks? I personally look at short interest as well as overly pessimistic optics (news articles/media etc..)

Folks who have been investing in individual stocks for more than 5 years, have you outperformed the market? And if so, by what percentage point?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 08:52 PM PDT

And by how many percentage points?

We have all heard of many studies saying retail and professional investors can rarely beat the market so curious to see what the consensus is!

Top GE analyst Tusa sees pension freeze as sign of ‘more cuts’ coming to reduce debt

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 01:46 PM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/07/top-ge-analyst-tusa-pension-freeze-sign-of-more-cuts-coming.html

While GE's pension freeze helps cut some of its debt, J.P. Morgan analysts Stephen Tusa expects the company will need to take further steps if it is going to reduce its leverage.

"Ultimately, we see more cuts to consensus and additional resources as needed to truly "normalize" the balance sheet," Tusa said.

Tusa also said investors should watch how GE accounts for any tax benefits related to the pension freeze.

    Fidelity Trade Costs

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 12:55 PM PDT

With more brokerages offering zero cost trades, when is Fidelity going to follow? Has anyone heard anything? I was between Schwab and Fidelity when I picked fidelity, that zero fee per trade sounds nice.

    $FTXP On Alert: 52-week Range $0.01 to $0.68 - Current PPS = $0.01 and note is ending!

    52-week Range $0.01 to $0.68 - Current PPS = $0.01

    http://otcresearcher.com/2019/10/foothills-exploration-inc-otcqbftxp-convertible-note-nearing-completion-signalling-buy-status-upgrade-with-increasing-revenues/

Take together, this shows a total of 12.5 million of shares traded since the maturity of the note. This translates into $187,000. With a 15% buy indifference, we can see roughly $150,000. The note is $115,000 (the "Note"), before giving effect to certain transactional costs including legal fees. Even with the raise in A/S (not effective), the O/S has stayed the same. The float is likely to stay the same as well. Most interesting is the reason for the note in the first place, and such a small one that appears to be already paid off.
Look at this graphically, we can see a downward deg ratio from $0.10, which means a return to $0.10 would be expected, without the note.

    Sell or hold?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 06:04 AM PDT

I put 2015 NZD into a power company in 2014, right now it's worth 5350. They pay a dividend biannually which I've put towards their dividend reinvestment scheme (which started last year). It's a small amount I know (was relatively young when I did it) but is this something worth holding onto long term?

    Difference in apps?!

When I search the App Store for "think or swim", it comes up with think or swim AND TD Ameritrade. But their pictures are the exact same and I thought TD owned TOS so I'm confused. Which one should I download?!

The Market and the impeachment inquiry?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 03:56 AM PDT

Obviously, I don't want to discuss the politics of the impeachment inquiry but I am curious on thoughts for the markets reactions along the way.

It seems like one possible outcome is Impeached in the house then not passing in the Senate.

How do you think the market would react to both impeachment passing the house and then not getting through the Senate?

Why on 2010 there was hype on silver?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 02:36 AM PDT

Why in 2010 there was hype on silver and it skyrockted to 50$?

I knew that gold and silver went down during 2008 crisis. What happened to silver in 2010?

Pattern Inquiry: Flags (Wedges vs. Pennants)

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 11:56 PM PDT

Hi, I would like to go into day trading and trading in general, but right now, I'm still studying the stock market. My question is on the flag pattern, specifically wedges and pennants:

    1. Are pennants basically wedges that is continued by a breakout? If not, what's the difference?
    2. Is there a difference in the volume between the 2 patterns?
    3. How can you take advantage of these flag patterns?

    Thanks :)

Could you buy shares of an actual "stock exchange"

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 07:19 PM PDT

Let's say I can speculate a growth/crash of a country's stock exchange. Can I buy a share of the actual exchange, or is investing through the exchange the only possibility? Thank You
