    Fell in love with interviewer?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 10:17 PM PDT

I was in a three-way interview for a summer externship and one of the women was their recruiter. She was very attractive and we had a conversation for a good 40 minutes. I fell in love with her halfway and feel like I wanted to have a future with her.

Needless to say, I got the offer.

Does anyone have advice for this type of situation? What should I put in my follow-up email? Thanks!

    Tips for Inventory Counts

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 04:12 PM PDT

Doing my first inventory in a month or so. Never done one before. I have two hours budgeted to complete the documentation. Any tips? I have no idea what I'm supposed to do (meeting in a few weeks to discuss, but I'd like to show I've at least familiarized myself with the basics).

Difference between big 4 and national firms?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:32 PM PDT

Hi I'm currently a freshman in college and I plan to go into public accounting as a profession and get my cpa as a auditor. I was wondering why everyone praises the big 4 so much, I was thinking about trying to get in there but is there a major difference between the big 4 and firms like clifton larson allen or clark nuber and grant thornton. If I get a internship at these firms in my junior year and not the big 4. Will it lead to the same career opportunities down the line and are they as sought after as the big 4?

    Thank you!

    “Process improvement” roles in accounting?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 02:06 PM PDT

I'm in public accounting, primarily focused on tax. However in the past, I've had a few clients that were operating on really clunky out-dated accounting systems. I took the initiative to researching which accounting systems would meet their needs better, prepared for them a list of pros/cons to each of the top finalists I found, helped them pick the right system, helped convert their old data to the new system, and train them on how to use it. I honestly found this type of work much more fun and rewarding them my daily work of grinding out tax returns. Are there roles within the accounting field were I could focus full-time on process-improvement type work?

Is it worth leaving a small CPA firm for a firm such as RSM/BDO/CohnReznick?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 03:19 PM PDT

    Background:

CPA with 5 years of tax preparation at small CPA firms. Currently at a small CPA firm doing privately held company audits (manufacturers, procurement). I managed to get an interview at the above firms, but if I get the position, I would start an associate level. Is it worth making the jump if I'm currently a "senior accountant"?

TLDR: experienced CPA at small CPA firms wondering if I should jump the ship to a larger firm as an Audit associate?

    FBI straight out of college?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:25 PM PDT

Older veteran student here. Got tons of B4 and regional offers, but honestly the idea of working 80+ hours full time just doesn't sit well with me. Thinking of working a few prestigious internships then taking an FBI internship my final year before I get my masters and then collecting my government check til I am 6 feet under. Is this plausible? Any input appreciated, thanks!

How bad would it be if I lie about a full-time offer to get another internship?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:15 PM PDT

So I accepted a full time offer in tax from one of the big 4 but would like to do a another do another internship in a different line of service for the experience. I feel that most firms will not hire an intern with a full-time offer as most of them would like to transition their interns to full time associates. So I am considering lying about having gotten my full-time so I can get another internship. Also I would try to do this with mid-size and regional firms. How bad is this idea? What is the worst that can happen?

Is IFRS 7 still applicable? Has there been a new standars that has been implemented that overrules IFRS 7?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 08:20 AM PDT

I was writing about IFRS 7 for a report. When presenting it, I got asked a question about if IFRS 7 was still valid since there has been a new standard that was implemented. While doing my research, which might not have been as thorough as I thought, I did not see anything about a new standard replacing IFRS 7. Any ideas about what this person was talking about? I had nothing to say so I replied that I did not know about this subject and thus could not say anything.

Looking for advice from Toronto CPAs

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:49 PM PDT

So I am currently a Canadian student doing my masters in accounting at a school in Michigan. I will be writing my Michigan Cpa exams beginning in January and also have secured an audit internship at a big 4 firm this summer in Detroit. My question is how is the life, salary, and exit opportunities for CPA's in Toronto, and how long would it take to reasonably expect to make 100k/ year in the city through Big 4 or exit ops? I personally love the city of Toronto but am very concerned with high cost of living.

I will be able to write an exam to practice in Canada, as well have made some strong connections with firms in Toronto for jobs in US tax. I am currently weighing the pros and cons of returning back to Canada, or continuing to pursue my career in the US. There is also the additional info that my family is all in Ontario and my girlfriend is pushing for us to move to Toronto to be closer with her family and for her career. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
