Posted: 04 Sep 2019 07:23 AM PDT So Tesla has opened a Giga Factory in China with the help of minority shareholder Tencent, and China seems to be in the shithole TBH. Rueters reports 4,000+ die daily in China due to bad air quality, and ever rising middle class. Is this not the perfect storm components for Tesla to come in a swoop EV market share? To my knowledge NIO is defunct, and with Tesla's name brand to carry it easily into the homes of middle class families in China, it seems almost like a no brainer? Furthermore, it seems like Tesla is one of the only companies That's Tariff proof? I'm going to start investing when Tesla dips every now and then. Just to have somewhat of a position again. What do y'all say? Edit: I just read an article that all newly built home in the Uk will have an electric Car Charge Post installed outside of them. <- More EV Hype? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2019 07:40 AM PDT What do you all think about this? I personally always try to avoid the "big" players in most funds, such as AAPL, FB for this exact reason. Some people credit how quickly things sold off in October 18' to passive investments [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2019 11:45 AM PDT FSLY has 180 day lock up period which ends on 11/13/2019. I've noticed it's fairly common for share prices to drop in anticipation of the lockup period ending. I'm curious as to when that sell off is most likely to occur. I'm sure it varies from company to company, but any insight into roughly when to expect the share price drop would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Interested in precious metals. What are your favorite Gold and Silver stocks and why? Posted: 04 Sep 2019 06:46 AM PDT Hello r/stocks, I am observing my portfolio and have noticed I have not diversified into precious metals. I am entirely new to this area. Currently doing research and would like to hear other's opinions. What are your favorite Gold and Silver stocks and why? Also what is your stance on Gold and Silver? Thank you in advance! How UBER can become profitable - Am I missing something? Posted: 04 Sep 2019 06:45 AM PDT The growing negative sentiment around Uber stock is surprising to me. Not only do I envision Uber breaking even sooner than expected, my thoughts trend toward Uber profiting massively after scaling the divisions that eventually become profitable and trimming those that do not. Specifically, I am referring to Uber ride sharing, Uber Eats, and Uber Freight. Uber ride sharing – yes, this division isn't currently profitable but let's do the math. With over 91 million active riders and 14 million trips per day, gradual price increases or take rates will result in profit. For example, raising rides by $1 would equate to: $1 x 14,000,000 x 365 = $5.1 Billion dollars in additional revenue. That's right, $5 Billion with a capital B. In addition, Uber could up-sell each trip with in-ride entertainment, in-ride advertisements, optional city tours for travelers, show reservations, etc. With 14 million active riders per day, small and gradual adjustments could make a huge impact to the bottom line. Uber Eats and Uber Freight fall into the company's "Other Bets" segment. Their S-1 filing explains ""Other Bets revenue increased to $373 million in 2018 compared to $67 million in 2017. This increase was primarily related to the expansion of our Uber Freight offering," reads the filing. " In 2018, Uber generated $1.46 billion from Uber Eats, up 148.7% from the previous year. Uber Eats now makes up 17.3% of Uber's overall revenue. The company's gross bookings from Uber Eats grew 108% YoY to $3.07 billion. An Oppenheimer & Co. research note projected that Uber Freight would capture 6.1% of the U.S. truck brokerage market by 2029, generating around $12 billion in gross revenue in a market estimated to be worth $117 billion. The growth rate for both Uber Eats and Uber Freight is impressive. It's clear that Uber is heavily investing in both to acquire market share and expand. It will take time and it will cost money. Just like with Uber ride sharing, gradual adjustments in prices, take rates, up-sell opportunities, and increasing operating efficiency will result in profit. I skipped the whole autonomous vehicle idea deliberately as it is not relevant. Uber doesn't need autonomous vehicles to become profitable. Taxis have been profitable for decades. Freight companies have been profitable for decades. Medical transportation companies have been profitable for decades (similar to Uber Health). Uber is growing to acquire market share. As the dials turn behind the scenes according to Dara Khosrowshahi's leadership, the company will become profitable. That will only be the beginning of the transportation revolution. I welcome your thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Value ETF that does not use book value Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:41 PM PDT It is my opinion that book values are no longer a very useful metric to evaluate most companies, yet it seems like most value ETFs still use the book value as one of their base metrics to determine if a stock is a good value or not. I'm wondering if there are any (good) value ETFs that focus more on PE, cash flow, EV/EBITDA, and other metrics to determine value that are not based on a companies book value. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:31 PM PDT The pro's are pretty compelling right now. High dividend yield (~24% per Fidelity) - High revenue - Profitable - Leading company in its field - Very low share price atm (more on this in the cons) The con's are just as worrysome though Argentina's economy is in shambles yet again - The peso is/was losing value - Political turmoil in the country atm - TGS produces and delivers natural gas in Argentina. From what I've read, it's the country's leading company in this field. So it seems stable. What has me on the fence with pulling the trigger on a buy is the polictical/economic uncertainty. Argentina's market has been in and out of recessions for several years now, and I haven't found any clear cut news articles on how long they have been in their current one. So I can't gauge if a turnaround is likely yet or not. There is also no way to tell how thier upcoming election will play out. The current president lost a primary election by a landslide which sent the market to the floor, taking $TGS with it. The election is this October, so there is still time for the market to swing as it will over there. I also don't know how a recession or full on Argentinian default would really effect a company like TGS. In one of the news articles I read a family was interviewed on how they're adjusting to the overall downfall in the economy. One lady said she switched her car to run on natural gas instead of petrol to save money. If this is a common thing going on right now over there, then TGS is going to continue making money in these rough times. I've watched it fall down to $7.12 USD/share a few days ago all the way up to $8.22 at close today. I'm going to keep an eye on it for the next week or so and see if it stays on the rise or drops back down again. If it continues to rise it will be hard not to start a position, just don't want to get caught in another big drop after getting in too high (obviously). Are any of you watching this one? If so, what are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Boeing (BA) or Lockheed Martin (LMT) better for long-term ROTH IRA? Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:09 AM PDT As the title says, I would like to choose one of these to add to my ROTH IRA account as I've heard it's smart to have a defense contractor in your portfolio. Not sure which would be better long-term and could use some advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2019 01:44 AM PDT Hi all, I am struggling to maintain a long term focus/hold companies for the long term recently. This is unlike me because I am very smart with my money and save like crazy, but for some reason I only have been holding stocks for 6 months or less. I know this is a terrible strategy, and will hinder me in the long run, but I keep second guessing companies i'm buying into. Does anyone have any tips or insight on how they maintain a long term mindset in a news filled world/environment? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:25 AM PDT Despite good news on their R&D results and positive feedback from (potential) clients, the stock is in a bearish situation and I can't find out why. Invest in stock market indexes and go on life-long vacation. Dream or reality? Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:28 AM PDT Dow Jones Industrial Average continues to go up, despite numerous economic recessions & financial crises. Is there any way to make money on its 100-year uptrend? Yes — you can invest in ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) that track "the Dow", as they call it. Their brochures tout the investment as "almost riskless", because, well, take a look at the chart!… But is it really so? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Sep 2019 05:24 PM PDT Purchased a small position of COF today on the slight-dip and was wondering what everyone thinks. From what I've read the consensus is that this stock is undervalued. Personally I've always been pleased with Capital One's service. Anyone have any insight? [link] [comments] |
