Sales Reps Who Travel - What are the little things that are in your travel bag?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:51 AM PDT

I recently just got a massive bump in budget and have been encouraged to start traveling for work from about 10% to about 30%. My work schedule now involves visiting a city in my territory for about a week at a time, sunday-thursday, which will typically include a 1 day trade show.

What are the little things that are always in your travel bag for work or for personal use? I'm currently pulling my hair out trying to find a more...ideal travel toiletry carrying case.

How can I better conduct and structure demo calls? Productized web design/marketing service

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 07:13 AM PDT

I have a productized web design & marketing service for small law firms. I offer a free homepage mockup in exchange for a call with one of the partners. During this call I'll introduce them to the service/platform and then we'll review the mockup I've created for them and how it, along with everything else we offer, can help grow their firm.

Currently I'm just emailing or verbally telling them the link to the demo while we're on the call. I like the idea of them being able to interact with it being that it's a real live website and not a mockup, but at the same time I've noticed this is where I start to lose their focus. Once they have "free reign" to play with the website the conversation tends to fall off since I dont know what they're doing or seeing.

I think this could be easily fixed by running the entire call through a screen share where I walk them through the entire site and highlight the features I want them to see. Then following the call I can just email the link and thank them for their time.

I guess what I'm looking for is any advice on how to structure the screen share demo. Should I start with their current website up and critique the things that my solution fixes? At what point to present the demo site? Give overview of the entire platform/pricing etc?

    Independent Sales Representative

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:05 PM PDT

We are a small manufacturer who designs and manufacturers controllers for industrial automation, we also have a few solutions for vertical markets. We are now at expansion phrase and looking for more sales rep. to sell the products. A few days ago, a friend of mine recommended me to look for independent manufacturer sales rep., who sell multi manufacturers products, take commissions only, this way we don't have to handle payrolls and other benefits issue, as we are still very small, and can't afford to hire sales rep. in each religion. I am wondering if anyone in this forum who knows how the independent sales rep. works? Will the rep. be interested in working with a small factory like us?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might give!

What if you permanently lost your voice?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:40 AM PDT

Slow day in my office, found myself wondering what would happen if I lost my voice... But forever!

So let's say this happens to you, you lose your voice and can't get it back for whatever reason, would you stay in sales? If so, what kind? If you had to switch to a different job, what would it be?

    SDR situatation

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:25 AM PDT

Ive been an SDR for a little over 3 years at 3 different organizations. The first job i got laid off after 11 months, the second laid off after 18 months and i quit the 3rd job after about 5. I was recently interviewing at a company for an SDR role that rejected me because, "you have too much experience as an SDR." I told them my intent is to move to the AE role during the process. I am not sure how to their reason for rejecting me. Any thoughts?

    Email Tracking -

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 09:07 AM PDT

When you see an email has been opened 10 times, do you follow up even harder?

I use Hunter.io and I'm not entirely sure how it works. I don't know why an email would be opened 10-20 times unless it's being forwarded, but I don't know if the software tracks that...

Either way, when I see that many opens, I typically wait two days. I know there's interest, so if don't hear anything back, I follow up with another email and a phone call. 30% results in an immediate close. More often it's a meeting for the future.

It's rare that this many opens leads to an immediate no, but it does happen.

What's your experience with lots of opens?

    Prospecting Exotic Car Buyers

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:50 AM PDT

Started at a dealership with two lots I can sell from not that long ago, new Mitsubishis (great bonuses on new cars) or luxury preowneds (lambos, Maseratis, $60k+ lifted trucks, bentleys, ranges, etc) with no bonuses but obviously higher commission. I've been focusing selling the new cars because that's our walk in and phone in clientele, but they're ALL subprime buyers and I honestly cannot keep setting 3-5 appointments a day only to have all of the 1-3 who actually show up ALL be people I wouldn't lend a dollar store pencil to and who can't buy cars.

Anyways my question, I want to move to selling these high end luxury cars, but the leads for those go to the salesmen who've been there for many years obviously, so I need to go out and find these customers myself. So far with random networking meetings I've found myself at recently and just going out to meet people, I've gotten a few leads, but I'm hoping I can get some better insight into how I can go about meeting and prospecting these high end clients who have 50-200k to throw at a car. Nb: I'm a young professional who just moved to DFW area a month ago from Seattle, so I've been harvesting my Seattle connections but those can only take me so far and I need to network Dallas now. Toastmasters, meetup.com networking, and several local car meets are all on my list to do asap, looking for a new approach I may have missed.

Tl;dr how can I network and prospect to high end car buyers in a new area?

    Thanks!

    Sales advice

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:49 AM PDT

I'm a communication and presentation instructor.

My main business is presentation workshops.

I would like to add physical products (because of a government grant) to my site for sale: everything a lecturer needs: a clicker, camera, stand and so on.

What else in your opinion can I sell on my website?

What are "targeted accounts" referring to in sales?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:37 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to find my second SaaS sales job in NYC. My first job was something I stumbled upon rather randomly, this is my first time really searching/vetting out different companies.

I keep seeing the phrase "targeted accounts", and even after doing some Google searching, I was a little confused as to what that meant.

For instance, I just read this bullet point on a job description:

"Identify and close new sales opportunities within targeted accounts as well as existing customers".

I see phrasing like this a lot. Are targeted accounts leads? Are they accounts that marketing determines you should reach out to, making it kind of like strategic prospecting? Would greatly appreciate the help of this subreddit!

Sales Management as aFood Service/Horeca supplier

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:13 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I am currently running a family business owned by my parents in a South East Asian country. I am involved in most affairs of the business, and have been struggling since forever with our Food Service sales team, and so I am coming to you to see how we can try and resolve the issues we are having:

    1. We are new to the Industry, so I have limited/no experience in selling to food service/horeca but I do have some previous sales experience, although it was primarily limited to marketing & technology products
    2. I know what a well oiled sales machine should look like, with a sales pipeline, and a combination of inbound and outbound sales, but I am struggling immensely in intimating this to the sales people. It seems like whomever we hire in this country, has no idea what prospecting, sales pipelines are, let alone what Inbound marketing is.
    3. My sales people seem to hate technology and reporting. It has been hair wrenching to get any kind of reporting into a crm, and when they do report, it's half-assed, or they just don't seem to understand what I'm explaining to them. I have resorted to just belligerently accepting brief reports by Whatsapp until my next attempt to force a CRM onto them
    4. I have toyed with the idea of getting a sales manager/supervisor, but my parents (i.e. the board of directors) currently have a hiring freeze, and do not seem convinced that we are big enough to have a sales manager/supervisor, and don't know whether it would even matter
    5. All-in-all i'm having an extremely hard time managing the sales team without having to drop everything else I'm doing and go after them full time. Ideally I'd love to have them do cold/warm calls, fill up a weekly schedule with 3-5 visits per day (customers are far apart, and travel time is lenghty), with reports. I'd also like to be able to have them log the calls they make so that we can track outbound calls and monitor volume vs quality
    6. Currently sales are predominantly done via warm accounts, i.e. people that the existing sales currently have existing contact with. We do almost no cold calls

I guess to TLDR it; i'm basically looking for advice on what to do with my sales team. I am personally spread thin, and am unable to micromanage the sales team as i'd like, as giving them the freedom to self-organize it not working. There is little oversight and management of KPI's and quite a few problems that are leading to abysmal sales numbers from them. I'm hoping for advice that will direct me on what needs fixing, reccomended solutions and where to start:

    For example:

    - Will having a dedicated sales admin help?

    - Do we need a sales manager? If so, how can I justify this?

    - Should I be bothering with such detailed KPI's?

    - Should I shadow each sales person and show them how I think their week should look like instead of discussing it in the office?

Also any additional advice in HORECA/Food service sales would be great. Our sales people are all from the industry, but I feel like I sometimes know more about sales than they do. We don't currently have a demo/presentation kitchen, but just give samples of our products (sauces & other consumables) to customers, when I think we should be doing cooking presentations.

5th week at my first SDR job and no sales made. Please Roast my Cold Call Script so I can improve?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:27 PM PDT

    • Product: First Aid Training Certification (It's valid for a year, so people need to renew every year)
    • Target Market: B2B Clients in any industry but common clients are in Sports, Warehousing, Medical Field, Aged Care, Schools, and Child Care.
    • Country: Australia (it's standard here to say "how are you?" at the start)

    The Script:

    • Hi [prospect], this is [My name] and I'm calling with regards to your first aid training.
    • How are you?
    • I'm looking for the person in charge of training/safety in your office. Are you the right person to speak to?
    • I'm calling from [my employer] and we train many businesses in [prospects business address].
    • We saw you guys there and I just wanted to say hi and see if I can help you and your staff with your first aid training?

Mostly I get "we're all good thanks." Or "we've already got a provider ." To which I respond "No worries. Have a good day!"

If they're interested or curious, I send them an email, but I'm not able to convert any of my calls into a booking so far.

    What am I doing wrong?

Got an opportunity in B2B sales

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 07:27 PM PDT

Got an opportunity to train as an AE in telecom sales, like cellphones, tablets, and assest managment. Basically, a trial run to see if I can do the job. Prospecting is very important, so I have been thinking of planning out a outbounding campaign, to visit businesses in my assigned territories to try and get leads. However, cold calling is also a big way to prospect, but I have never done it before. How can I compile my own list of businesses to call? Any advice will help.

SaaS SDR/BDR salary in New York City?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:14 PM PDT

The dream is to live in NYC absolutely once I can become an account executive but I'm mulling whether or not I'd want to live there on entry level pay.

What's typical and good pay for NYC?

I've done 2 SaaS internships, and worked at a verizon retail store for a year during college, if that helps at all.

Online, commission-only sales. Worth it as a stepping stone?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 04:57 PM PDT

    Hello again!

I have a question regarding commission-only, online sales roles. My situation is kind of different, so hear me out:

My goal is to ultimately enter an SDR role, but for that I will need to move out of state. My home state has no tech industry to speak of. I believe that sales will suit me personality wise, but I have no way of knowing for sure. My previous experience was independently reselling used cameras and computers. I loved it. The market research, copywriting ads, hunting for deals online that I could resell, meeting people and trying to get them to buy. The entire process was fun and exciting. It made me think that I would enjoy doing this professionally.

My main issue is that I would like to make a trial run of this career, just to make sure that it is a good fit for me. My thinking is as follows: an online, commission-only will help my resume, allow me to test the water, and, hopefully, help me to save some cash for the move.

You see, my main worry is the following scenario: I get an SDR job, spend lots of money and resources on moving, and then hate the job. The stress might eat me alive. In the worst case scenario, I end up moving back to my home state and I am several thousand dollars.

    Any suggestions for this situation?
