New to the Mortgage Industry. Anyone have any words of encouragement? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:49 AM PDT Hi all, yesterday I started my first day of actual mortgage banking at a non-depository and just got absolutely destroyed. I interned with the company previously and really like the culture/people and many bankers do extremely well. I want to join the club and have degrees in finance and sales but yesterday made me wonder if I have the ability to keep up with how fast paced these types of sales. Additionally, the technology we use is very helpful.... If you're proficient with using it. I know there's a learning curve but I kind of feel like I'm drowning right now. Can anyone offer any advice on how to get better or find out whether or not I'm actually suited for this role? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:38 AM PDT Without being too verbose let me describe what is going through my goofy ass brain; Working a job that I don't really enjoy and don't make all that much money doing(auto body repair/paint 30,000 a year). Have worked previous jobs that included selling (upselling shit when I installed satellites, various front of house restaurant gigs, promotional work, plus honestly what doesn't involve some degree of sales) but I have never worked a fully commission based job. The thought of my pay depending solely on my success rate sounds way less stressful than what I am doing now. I am interested in B2B or even D2D (but that is kind of dead around here) to get some kind of actual sales experience on my resume. My plan right now is to either try to find a position that will let me work in the evenings and possibly on lunch breaks that has potential for me to make decent money and lead into bigger things down the road. I live in a smaller area with low rent so I don't struggle with money or bills or anything but I am getting to where I absolutely dread waking up for work in the morning. I get my shit done and I do a good job but I don't see myself working this hard for this little pay the rest of my adult life. I enjoy working with my hands and everything but if I was making better money I could do it on the side no issues and actually make way better money than working for someone else. I should also mention I am looking for remote or very flexible hours as I am a 31 y/o single dad. I have plenty of hours to give but not being shackled to the normal grind is the dream. I know no one here can tell me exactly what to do but am I being an idiot? I know there is risk involved but if you were in my shoes would you keep the boring 8-5 job and just build a knowledge base and maybe a side hustle or grow a pair and take the risk? If anyone has any advice or wants to tell me I'm stupid or whatever I would love to hear what you guys think. *edit I should also mention while I work during the day I listen to sales training stuff (have for the past 3 or 4 years now) and I have been lurking on here a ton. Have a few books as well but I plan on getting more and learning as much as I can before I get a position. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 10:09 AM PDT So I'm a web developer/designer, and I love what I do! I've been wanting to get into freelancing, but the cold-calling deal just isn't something in my wheelhouse at all. I've been trying to find people that are willing to sell my web design/development and graphic design services for a 20% cut of a signed deal (typically sites go anywhere from 500 to 2000+ if you can find clients that it would pose a high ROI for). Like I said, I love web design, but sales wears me down emotionally, and I want to focus on the part that I'm good at... Does anyone have any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
Trying to find ways to train out bad speech mannerisms Posted: 02 Sep 2019 11:29 AM PDT I am not directly in sales but I've spent most of the last year on the support staff side of financial firms-assistant to brokers, that kind of thing. Previously, I was in back office roles, which was heaven but I couldn't find a way to make more money. If I could get rid of some of the problems I'm having, I have a lot of the skills where becoming something like a financial planner wouldn't be unrealistic, so it would be good to get better at talking to people. My problem, which has frustrated me my whole life but now is a career issue, is my speech is not fluid at all. My voice is nasally, with a monotone that makes people generally think I dislike them. If I try to put more "uumph" in my speech, I usually just end up sounding irritated or anxious. Right now, I'm fortunately working for a smaller office that doesn't get a ton of calls but I can already see my manager is anxious that I don't sound cheery enough when people call. But I literally don't know how to adjust my voice that way, especially if I'm caught off guard. I have a few other problems with speech. My words usually aren't as fluid as I would like and I tend to fall back into folksy word choices when I'm thinking of what to say, like adding "and such" or describing something as "a good one." This is how my family talks at home but I'm working with high net worth clients and I get really angry at myself that I can't choose better words in the moment. I know some organizations have things like phone practice trainings. I'm currently with a small business, so I need an option that goes outside of my organization. I'm looking for something (or maybe even some practice structure that I could do with a friend) where I can get coached on better ways to speak and then practice the heck out of them because it doesn't come naturally to me at all. I haven’t been planning so I guess I’ve been planning to fail. Posted: 02 Sep 2019 11:03 AM PDT I'm looking for some help. I'm looking down the barrel of a smoking gun. I have a month to bust ass and work like I've never worked before. Would there be any b2b sales professional would might help me set up a weekly schedule for success? [link] [comments] |
Need advice on how to proceed. Posted: 02 Sep 2019 10:21 AM PDT I have an agreement with a supplier in Syria for different fruits and vegetables and I can arrange transporting them to Russia (where I want to sell them) but I can't find a buyer (I know how to search for sellers but got no experience finding buyers) how should I proceed ? Trying to decide between Insurance or Mortgage Origination Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:54 AM PDT So I've recently interviewed and been offered a job in insurance sales, and I'm trying to decide if I want to follower through on Insurance or head into Loan Origination where a good friend is offering to help get me started and says I have all the right skills already to do well. I actually love real estate and used to work on the title insurance side of real estate so I feel like this might be a better avenue. Does anyone have any experience with both? I'm certainly not in love with the idea of selling insurance, and I feel like the company recruiting me is almost an agent mill. I get weary when the interview is really just a sales pitch to try and get me to sign up. Money is important to me for sure, but I also know I want to be feel fulfilled in my work. Anyway.. just looking for some advice I guess. Background. Really just starting out in sales here. Been working lead gen in solar for a few months and also considering pushing hard to move to a closer position where I'm already at. Perhaps as a way to hold me over while I get licensed for Loan Origination. [link] [comments] |
Best database for customer tracking and sales pipeline? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 08:27 AM PDT I've been tasked with completing a market map for Europe and my management has requested a database of all customers and potential sales leads country by country with details on the decision makers. Does anyone have any idea as to the best database to use and log all this information? They would need to know the scope of the business, by company, country and what ever else I can find. I was looking at Microsoft Access but open to other ideas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2019 12:00 PM PDT I keep getting my sales re written by other employees and I'm losing a lot of commission. I have to drive an hour to work so there's no way I can do something about it most of the time. Management won't do anything because they favor a certain sales person. I've been down this road 2 times of either management giving my leads away and now having other sales people re write my contract and I get 0 credit. What job can I take where I don't have to worry about that? The first job was a door to door job, the other is a furniture/ appliance store. What can I sell that nobody can steal from me? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 11:06 AM PDT Hey Guys, I'm a Finance Major in college and I'm currently taking a Sales class on how to best "sell yourself". We are currently discussing Commission and standards in the industry and we've been tasked with creating an "ideal commission pay structure" as a project. Would you guys be able to share your worst experiences in commission? What you personally look for in the pay structure (when you are reviewing contracts and pay structures), what costs you or the employer includes in the structure, what duties do you need to take on (and is more commission delegated to you as more duties are assigned) and finally what would you like to include or leave out in an ideal contract? I really appreciate everyone's help! [link] [comments] |
Advice Wanted: Getting Into Sales Engineering (SaaS) Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:52 PM PDT Little background on me, graduated college a year ago and have been working as an engineer at a manufacturing company. It's essentially a product development role, but there's a good amount of sales-like activity mixed in as well; mostly talking with existing customers and offering solutions based on needs they express, and fielding technical questions deferred by the main salespeople. I've really taken to these sales-based aspects much more than the design/development ones so I've decided to move my career in this direction. After doing some research I learned about Sales Engineering roles and these seem to hit the nail on the head in terms of what I'm looking for. Everyone has a different definition for this position but to me the defining responsibilities, and the ones that I am drawn towards are:
It seems though that sales engineering positions are generally not entry level, so I'm strategizing how to make that transition. My current plan is to get an entry level SDR position and then try to move in from there. This almost feels like I'll be going backwards to go forwards, I'd probably be making $10-$20k less than I do now. The transition is also further complicated by the fact that I'd be switching industries (manufacturing>SaaS) but I know this is the right move for a number of reasons I won't get into. I've revised my resume to highlight the sales activities at my current job and I've set up a queue to apply to a few hundred SDR positions. For anyone who made it through the long winded post, do you have any input or advice to offer here in terms of making this transition or anything to look out for? Thanks [link] [comments] |
How do you deal with reluctant operations (internal)? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:27 PM PDT I'm about six months into my first B2B sales position. Word from the top is we need to focus on growth, but I feel like I'm being stymied by the operational side of the business. I've got a couple of big opportunities in the works that could mean significant revenue, good margins, and an excellent real-world example of a blue-chip client we can use in marketing effort to land similar accounts. Operations are coming back to me to say they don't have the staff/equipment to resource these opportunities, and are oddly reluctant to recruit in order to fulfil them. Even when I can demonstrate that the financials make sense. Of course, Sales have a sales target and Ops have a costs target, but why the heck am I out there selling shit if we can't/won't fulfill when it comes down to brass tacks? Would love to if/how any of you have dealt with this sort of thing in the past. EDIT: And I should add, I spent a decade in ops already at this company, so I know pretty well what the requirements are. I always made sure shit got done; the most I did was push for deadlines to be negotiated. [link] [comments] |

How to nicely invite business owners to talk about things they would like to automate? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:58 PM PDT Hello, I am a software engineer and I work as a freelancer mainly in business automation field. I did a few applications which helped my clients to save a lot of money (literally a lot of money). The problem is that I am probably the worst seller in the world so for me it is not a piece of cake to find a client. Well, stop. I do not event want to find a client, I just want to get information from business owner about things they would want to automate in their companies. I have a very detailed list of over 3 million companies in my country - I have information about owners (for example name, email address, phone) and their companies (for example name, address, industry, registration date). I tried to send an email with a simple question - would You like to speed up or completely automate any task in Your company? I sent about 10 000 emails and I managed to get literally one lead - one man sent me his phone number and asked for a call. As You see result of my campaign is a disaster. I wonder if email marketing is a good idea in my situation so I am looking for other ways to get information about things that business owners would like to automate in a specific industries. Could You please share Your thoughts with me? Do You have any ideas how I can improve my actions in order to get answers to my questions? Thank You very much and have a nice day! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:25 PM PDT Possible job offer from a very large global company, Pay and benefits are excellent, work seems easy (this is somewhat of a concern seeing as i like to be challenged). Problem is i live in a country where cigarettes are heavily regulated and taxed with the amount of smokers going down each year so i am uncertain about the long term viability of the industry and whether it's better for me to take a position with lower compensation but with more positive outlook for my professional development + future viability the role is for either a "trade marketing rep" (lol) or a "trade services rep" (whatever the fuck that means) what do you guys think? i was thinking of getting into either medical devices (since i have experience in pharma it could help) or possibly sas (health related software preferred but not much potential there at the moment job wise) don't think i'm gonna take the offer but wanted to hear what you guys think cheers [link] [comments] |
Best ways to network and find your own leads? (in B2B SaaS sales) Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:42 PM PDT I just started working as a BDR at a company that resells ERP software to small-midmarket companies. I have been given a list of leads, most of which are very old and we have been calling, sending e-mails to for the past several years with no luck (AKA crap leads). This makes sense, as they do not want to pass along the gold to a brand new person to sales who hasn't proven himself yet. I assume they just want me to practice with getting rejected, the tenacity/rough nature of cold-calling, etc. But at the same time, my managers want me to produce and set appointments. In the past 4 months, I have only been able to set 2 real appointments, one of which didn't go anywhere since I didn't qualify them well enough. And the other, was going well, the AE who was working the deal seemed to be moving it along, but it seems to have stalled so who knows what will happen with that. My question is, and I'm sure this gets asked alot, but do any of you seasoned BDRs or Account Executives have any experience with finding your own leads in your own free time, through trade shows, networking events, etc? I live in New York City, so these opportunities must exist, I'm just not sure how to go about finding good ones, or if there are better ways to go about it. Are there specific shows or events where there are likely to be a large amount of qualified small-mid-sized businesses who are looking to upgrade their current software? I work business hours 9-5 during the day, so I would be free in the evening to network, meet people, and hustle. I really would love to impress my managers by telling them I met someone at an event who is looking for an ERP software, that they're qualified, and a potentially very lucrative deal. I really want to perform at this job, but I just don't know how much luck I will have with the leads they are giving me. So if anyone could share any tips or guidance to finding your own leads, particularly ones that would be interested and could benefit from ERP/accounting software, I would appreciate it. Love you guys here at r/sales by the way, you guys have tremendous advice and insight into the sales game. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:15 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm an amateur sales person and recently got a great opportunity in my company. Our company has sent a proposal to this big shot company in India and did a POC as well. The only thing that remains is for them to sign our contact. I came into this scene a week ago and now have been tasked to arrange a meeting with the CEO of the company at any cost. I don't have any experience and I am struggling. I tired contacting the CEO through email and LinkedIn, doesn't work. I tried getting his PA's contact, and that didn't work out as well. I'm lost guys. Can someone guide me on how to get this done? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:49 PM PDT I know people in sales jobs can sometimes jump around a lot depending on the industry. If I were to work somewhere for 10 months is this long enough to put the position on my resume if I leave on good terms? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:35 PM PDT Started a new position as an AE 2 months ago. 1 week into my employment we get a new Vp of Sales. He puts everyone on Pip basically immediately. Keep in mind I'm 3 weeks into my tenure and have been exceeding all my ramp goals easily. When I asked him specifically why I was put onto Pip and the what's the criteria for getting off he was very around the bush even after I went in early and pressed him about it. Month 2 goes well sales wise, exceed ramp expectations and on the last day of the month he tries to take away a deal so i miss quota. Even then I still hit it so figured during our one on one at the end of the day we'll talk about it. Nope! He immediately inform my employment is terminated immediately and will be no longer receiving my commission. When I asked specific reasons why I was fired he told me I can't discuss it but check back in next week to talk about it(Texas right to work state). When I provided proof of deals he said he would look into it and talk to CEO. (complete bs). Then he tried to get me to sighn termination papers on the spot(which i refused). I looked over My employment agreement says I'm due all comission/bonus if I'm terminated. What should I do? Is there any actions I can take? This is already talking its toll on mentally and shaken my confidence and faith in peoole. I turned down several good AE poistions only to be fired without reason at the end of my 2nd month. It's put me in rough financial especially considering they are now trying to stiff me on commission. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:01 PM PDT Hi all I work for a travel management company in the UK and am part of the BD team. Primarily our job is to cold call organisations and book an appointment to go and sell our service after qualification. Every month we run a sales team blitz where every single BD exec has to hammer the phones. We try and add a theme every month for get more engagement and add prizes too. Our KPIs are generally based around call numbers/call times/meetings booked. A successful day would be 30 calls / 2 meetings. I've been tasked with running the blitz which means I am responsible for arranging and the theme. I'm not the most creative person so thought I'd turn to reddit for help. Some older themes have been around the Premier League, shows that have been on TV and even the stock market. I really want a role in the L+D team at some point so feel like this is my time to shine. Budget for prizes is usually around 150-200. Be good to hear if others do similar and what sort of thing they do. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
[Feedback] Business leads site Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:45 PM PDT TLDR: Business leads site is in early access and completely free while I collect feedback. If you need some business leads, give it a try. - https://cobaltintelligence.com Background I'm a software engineer who really loves automation and web scraping. I have a few clients who I work with regularly as a side business in order to provide business leads via web scraping. The site is https://cobaltintelligence.com/. My focus is providing business leads based on scraped data. The search looks for keywords from the site and then returns them accordingly. The cool part is that the site learns. Every search term you use get puts into a queue where it'll start to find more leads based on that term, most likely within the hour. I've used several sites like this before for side gigs and I've always been frustrated by the intentional blocking. Monthly fee + limits based on downloads or exposing email addresses. I always felt nickel and dimed. I wanted this to be open where you could download as many you wanted and the service I provide is giving up to date and constant new leads, specifically around what you are searching for. I currently need feedback so I have it in an early access mode where it's completely free. I'd love the feedback so if you have time or just want free leads, have at it. Some known limitations
Some future enhancements I'm looking forward to
