Amazon appears to be cutting prices at Whole Foods again

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:23 PM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/08/27/amazon-cutting-prices-at-whole-foods-in-last-6-months-morgan-stanley.html

Whole Foods prices are down roughly 2.5% on average from last year, according to a note published by Morgan Stanley on Tuesday.

The drop follows a broader price hike instituted earlier this year, and narrows the premium to other grocers like Kroger, the note said.

Amazon's revenue growth from its physical stores segment, mostly comprised of Whole Foods sales, was flat last quarter, at $4.3 billion, but the company said it grew 5% on an adjusted basis.

I have bought a few shares on CGC at $38. Do you think they will be about to come back up or should I sell now to prevent even more loss?

Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:46 PM PDT

This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report.

Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:46 PM PDT

These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds).

There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions.

    New Filings

This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold.

    Newbie question about Call options

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 05:08 PM PDT

Hello, I'm pretty new to the stock market, I have been reading about call options but there is one thing that confuses me:
If I buy a call option, let's say with a strike price of $100 and after some time the current stock price goes to $110, can I sell that contract back to the market to make a profit instead of excercising the option and then selling the stocks?

    Cisco (CSCO)

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 02:01 PM PDT

Its dominant position in internet connectivity and growing presence in cybersecurity, leads to rivers of free cash flow and profits that it uses to reward shareholders.

Operating income is up from $10.8 billion in 2015 to $14.2 billion in 2019. That's strong growth (31.5%) for a $200 billion company.

Does PFE seem like a buy now?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:48 PM PDT

PFE (Pfizer) seems like a buy now right? It is currently at $34.34 with a price target of $44.50. It seems to be bottoming out from its recent large loss. In addition, in this coming volatile (bearish?) market a strong pharmaceutical seems like a good choice. Finally, it's recent new drug Xtandi just got more approval. Am I wrong here?

    Downside to holding mutual funds?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 06:40 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to investing and was wondering if someone could help me understand the potential risk of holding a mutual fund for too long.

I believe that at some point in my life the US will go into recession (not saying right this second). I'd like to get into a position with a bear fund. So I'm looking at Grzzx (mutual fund in all short positions). If I bought and held this fund for 10 years, other than the management fees could I be adversely affected by anything other than the recession not ever happening?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Long Term Capital Gain Tax - Need Help

    Posted: 27 Aug 2019 10:25 AM PDT

    Hello,

So I bought some stocks on August 28th 2018. I want to sell the stocks but I have been holding out til I get to the one year mark so I can get long term capital gains tax instead of income tax. If I were to sell on August 28th (tomorrow) would that be 1 year or would I technically need to wait until August 29th, 2019 (Thursday) to sell and get the capital gain tax? And yes, I want to sell ASAP. Just looking to get enlightened on the exact rules here. Thank you.

Hi. I am looking to invest in German stocks. But I can't find the platform to see any snapshot financial statements listed in Germany Stock Exchange.

Could you give me an advice if you know any? Thank you

Beginner here, need some advice real quick!

Sorry, I'm sure you guys just wanna make money and hate posts like these, please ignore me if so! Just looking for a quick bit of advice on something..

So my grandpa put money into a stock for me when I was born. Just withdrew it and got $50k.. that is a lot of money and I know I could (and probably should) definitely use it to make even more money. So here's my question:

Would it be a bad idea to dump all (or half and bank the rest) of this money into one stock that's worth like $30/share? Then once the stock goes up a few bucks I withdraw and claim my (hopefully) quick 4-5k profit? Or possibly do the same with a big a company like Tesla who has $215/share? Just dump that whole $50k in and withdraw after a few dollar increases?

Or is that a huge mistake that all beginners make, and that everyone advises NOT to do?

I know my "method" is probably very similar (if not the same) as to what day traders do, but as far as I know I thought they dumped smaller amounts across multiple different stocks, not all the money into one. Also, I know that the stock could very easily go down in price. If so, I'd wait it out until it hopefully rises back up again. The stock market is a RISK and I understand that fully.

I'm not looking for any advice on which stock to invest in, just if my method of dumping $50k into one stock then withdrawing a few days later when it's up a couple bucks is a bad idea or not. Sorry if this is a noob question. Just trying to capitalize on what I was fortunately given! Thanks!
