Legal Advice Amazon Seller lost $$$ "because of my call"

Amazon Seller lost $$$ "because of my call"

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:56 AM PDT

Quick story: I paid over $1000 to have a UV filter installed. I decided, against manufacturer's suggestion, to install a generic uv bulb that was listed on amazon to be "100% compatible" to save a few bucks. After many months of the bulb working as described, we found the bulb had completely melted and blown out of the UV unit. When we noticed no water in the sink, we went to the crawl space to find water everywhere and the bulb 10 feet from the UV unit... and the bulb was totally melted. I called the installer, they said they've never seen anything like this happen before (they even came to see it) and it had been a few years, so I should contact the manufacturer. Manufacturer could tell by the photo it wasn't their bulb and also said they've not seen something like this happen before, so they blamed the generic bulb.

So, I went back to my Amazon purchase of said generic bulb and contacted the seller through Amazon. They informed me this was not their fault and they could send me a replacement bulb. I wrote them back, trying to continue the conversation since I didn't need a new bulb for a broken UV unit. I waited a few weeks and no reply... so I called Amazon and asked them to put me in contact with the seller. Amazon said I should get a call from the Seller within a few business days. I waited a week. So I called Amazon again and told them no one called me and asked what could they do. So Amazon refunded my money and said to get in contact with the company directly if I could.

The company is listed under a different name online than it is on Amazon. It was tricky to find them, but finally, I searched their logo pic on google and found the company. I contacted them and almost immediately they wrote me back and said that because I contacted Amazon instead of them, Amazon destroyed almost $20K of their product and wanted to know what I was going to do about it... umm... I tried to contact them, they didn't contact me back, and I have 0 control over what Amazon does - and how was I supposed to contact them directly when their name online is different than on Amazon. Yes, I complained about them to Amazon for not getting back to me, and had to explain what happened with the bulb to get request them to call me, and then again to get my refund.

I've heard companies have sued over "slander." Is there anything here to be worried about??

I am supposed to have money put aside for me for university from both of my deceased parents. My step mom says there is no money left and what was left by my dad was used to send my step-siblings to university and pay for the family's expenses. Can someone help me please?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:11 PM PDT

I am really sorry if this is long but i have no idea where to turn to get help. I am also sorry if screw up terms. I am a minor, and i am about to start my last year of high school. I am currently living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

My mom passed away when i was 2 and we lived in Vancouver at the time. My dad remarried when i was 8 and i ended up becoming the youngest kid in the family. My step mom has always been mentally unstable and hates me in general.

My dad passed away ~6 years ago from cancer. Before my dad passed away he told me that there was a trust setup for me with a fair amount of money to pay for my university from his first wife. He also told me that his will was setup to ensure that i wouldn't need to worry about anything for university or need to worry about money. He told me over and over that i would be taken care of no matter what.

Earlier this month my step mom made a comment vaguely asking how i expected to pay for college/university on minimum wage. I told her what my dad told me, and she said that everything my dad had left was spent to take care of the family, and to send my older step siblings to university (she said it was "first come, first serve"). She also has absolutely refused to help me in anyway as it is "waste of her time". I have ripped apart the house trying to find any sort of paperwork from my mom/dads estate but i cannot find anything.

I have tried to talk 2 lawyers who specializes in estates and wills, the first one told me he could not do a consult with a minor unless my guardian is present (no chance). The other one basically wanted a lot of money to even do anything which i don't have.

I have also tried to reach out to my estranged part of my moms family, her sister was able to dig up something with the name of the company who took care of her estate, but that company no longer seems to exist. My dad on the other hand was an only child, and as long as i remember i don't remember anyone else from his family, nor can i find anything.

I don't really know where to look or what to do at this point anymore. I am terrified that my step mother used this money to pay for all the frivolous bullshit she has wasted money on and pay for my step siblings tuition. I am also terrified that if there is really no money then i am basically going to get screwed hard, i need to get away from my step mother no matter what.

TLDR; I am supposed to have money in a trust/will from both of my parents. My step mom says this is not true and all the money left by my dad was used to take care of the family and pay for my step siblings tuition. I don't know how to find out the truth or where to even start looking.

School says nobody is allowed to bring any food due to “life threatening allergies” of students (WA)

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:37 AM PDT

Hello, this is in WA in Pierce County. School just started here and we were sent home with a document saying children cannot bring ANY food to school due to "life threatening allergies." By extension this means students must purchase school lunch. This does not seem like a reasonable accommodation to me. Can anybody point me in the right direction where I can see if this is legal or not? I would like to argue this with the school. It seems pretty ridiculous to not allow us to pack school lunches for our children.

Cracked an overhead pipe inside a parking garage that said 13 feet clearance and my uhaul truck is 9 feet 4 causing water to spill out.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 04:01 AM PDT

Tonight I rented a 9'4 inches box truck from Home Depot to go pick up a couch in Denver. The guy I'm picking up from meets me on the 1st floor, jumps in and tells me to drive up to the 5th floor where his apartment is to load the couch. On our way up to the 2nd floor we hit an overhead pipe causing it to leak gas and eventually water pouring out. The only clearance sign is at the garage entrance saying 13 feet. The inside ceiling looks high as well but we still swiped the pipe.

We called the fire department and ended up having 2 fire trucks come with the apartment building evacuated. We told a fireman by the leak that it was us that hit the pipe and the building manager came to take my license, phone number, and took a picture of the uhaul license plate. She told me to notify my auto insurance as well as Home Depot about the incident. No damage to the uhaul really. She said she will be in contact this week and it sounded like I will be responsible for the damage.

My question is with the clearance sign saying 13 feet and the guy telling me it's fine to drive up, am I still liable? I went back and took photos of the signs and surrounding areas inside in case it works in my favor. What is the process now and should I really notify my auto insurance and uhaul and what do I say to them in defense if they try to make me liable?

Thank you for the advice!! I am very nervous as I don't have much money. Also, they tighten the pipe and fixed it within 30 minutes. It was just loose.

TLDR: Drove a 9 feet high uhaul inside a parking garage with only clearance sign that said 13 feet with instruction of a guy selling me a couch and swiped an overhead pipe causing water to leak.

Am I liable and how do I protect myself?

EDIT: I kept saying Uhaul but I meant Home Depot. Sorry.

Air Conditioning is out after 5 days, in the middle of a heat advisory... in Arizona. Landlord still has not sent someone out to fix it.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:52 AM PDT

    Tempe, Arizona

I live in an apartment building in Arizona, a few days ago we started having issues with our air conditioner. 4 days ago our air conditioner went completely out, this is happened before so that evening we left it alone hoping it would self rectify like it had before. By that morning it was still not better and the air-conditioning completely stopped working.

We notified the apartment via the online maintenance work order system three days ago and they have still not sent out anyone to come fix it. Last night they finally brought over a small portable unit they placed in our living room, but that only cools the living room and our bedrooms are still well over 80 degrees.

Before the air conditioning unit was brought over, we had to deal with 85 degree heat for 2 days, I actually had to go stay at a friend's house it was so unbearably hot, and it was making me sick to be in our unit.

My question is whether or not I have any recourse, or any method in which to force the apartment into hiring a company to come out on overtime. I work with contractors all the time and know that if you pay them overtime they'll be out within a couple hours. State statute also says that in conditions unsuitable for living, tenants can go and rent hotel rooms and then deduct that from their rent for that month, does anyone know if this is a viable option, or am I making more trouble for myself then I would be if I just waited another couple days for this company to eventually come back out fix our unit?

Do I have rights to my moms house (when she passes) even though my step dad lives in it?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:34 AM PDT

My mom and dad have been paying the mortgage for the past 25 years. My dad passed away 4 years ago, and my mom remarried a year later. Let's call him James, he's from South Carolina and owns a home there, deed and everything.

But he lives with us in Los Angeles, CA. Recently, they've been arguing about the house for some reason. He's saying that if something happens to my mom, the house will be split into 4 ways (myself, my 2 sisters, and him) because they're married. Well my mom doesn't want to include him because he already has a house in South Carolina and now wants part of this one (which costs A LOT more than his).

My moms name is on the deed, not James. My mom wrote a will saying that the house will be ONLY for the daughters in the event that something happens. The lawyer said something along the lines of "well he's married to you and if he's paying the mortgage he does get a part" (the house hasn't been paid off yet).

Here's where I need advice: my mom has been giving me the money (for the mortgage) and putting it on my checks so that it looks like I've been paying it, not him. But I think it's with his money. Can something go wrong if he finds out? Can we get sued or get into trouble? He has a son which makes things more complicated because James wants part of the house, so that his son can move in, and he's not even in the state.

Sorry if this isn't clear, let me know if you need clarification for anything.

Edit: James is not on any paperwork. Not in the deed, not on the mortgage, not on any property papers. Idk if that makes a difference

I was diagnosed with a heart condition and my boyfriend took off with our toddler and accused me of being a drug addict. Please help me.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:35 PM PDT

This week has been one of the darkest of my entire life. I hadn't been feeling well and was very tired/knew something was up for months. I tried to power through it for my family as best as I could, as I'm the primary breadwinner atm and my kids need me. The facade was obliterated about a week and a half ago when I woke up to the whole left side of my body actually numb. I couldn't stand. The room spun like a goddamn dreidel and I had a headache like I'd never experienced before that would just not. go. away. I rushed to the hospital followed by countless blood tests and scans and even a lumbar puncture, to rule out something emergent. Was put on a slew of different meds, including prednisone which, if you're familiar its THE worst. My symptoms continued to get worse with each passing day, it was excruciating. I played it cool and tried to act as normal as possible for my family, I just did not want to put them through anymore trauma. I was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome which they believe to be secondary to an auto immune or neurological condition such as MS. I won't have the diagnosis until further testing is completed, maybe two weeks. The heart issue has improved with medication but the numbness, and vision impairment still persists. Anyway. Yesterday I asked my significant other to pick up a few prescriptions, one of the many being a bottle of exactly 7 ct .5 lorazepams to help me sleep and ease some of the nerve pain. He came back and told me the medication couldn't be picked up for a couple days, and being in this fragile state, I started to cry nd got upset. I called the pharmacy as I knew that wasn't correct and they immediately apologized and said they would get it ready right away. I apologized and asked him to get it as I cannot drive atm. He came back and that's when all hell broke loose. He started yelling and telling me he was taking our child to his mom's, stating there because he can't be around me. He told me that he figured out what was wrong with me; I'm a drug addict. He then went on this whole crazy rave about it/the lorazepam and that the symptoms I've been experiencing HAD to be withdrawals because he looked it up. He got this idea in his head and just could not move past it. Tbh he was downright cruel, I'm shattered, you guys. He told me to stop pretending to be sick and just get up and spend time with them and be a good mother if that's what really want. Let me tell you, I want nothing more and after 9 days of being physically unable to, that hurt so much. I begged, pleaded, told him that the only thing I need right now is my family. Tried to convince him to call my doctor, offered to make my medical record public. I tried everything. He left. He left me alone and he left with my 2 year old daughter.

He won't answer my texts or calls and all I want is to get a ride there and physically take my baby back. I know the confrontation is probably a bad idea but holy s its taking all the restraint I have not to.

Please help me. What do I do?

SOS situation: $4k surprise medical bill, all advice needed!

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:00 AM PDT

I am a lawyer here in Georgia. I recently had surgery at an in-network hospital with an in-network surgeon. Prior to my surgery, I asked if they could tell me the name of the doc just to be sure, and they said they couldn't tell me until the morning of my procedure. I also wasn't given a choice.

I received my anesthesia bill this week — $3,960. Turns out, my procedure was 25 days before the doctor's in-network contract began.

I spent hours on the phone with Cigna, who claims there is nothing I can do except appeal. However, they said they did not think there was a chance the decision will be overturned.

The anesthesia company is a P.C. independent of the hospital and I can't find a local number to call. The billing department is in Pittsburgh while we are in Savannah, and they claim to not have the ability to lower the price.

Also, someone told me something about them not being allowed to charge me more than the Medicaid price? That seems incorrect but I can't find any laws out there to that effect.

I need ANY laws, advice, tips, tricks, or help.

Balls keep hitting my house from nearby sports complex

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 09:07 AM PDT

My husband and I just bought a home that is adjacent to the city's public school soccer complex. While it did worry us, the builder assured us that the balls only rarely go over the fence....yeah right. Soccer season started a week ago and there been 4-5 balls EVERY AFTERNOON. Today is Saturday and there's already been 3... it's only 10 am. One of them landed in our yard, one in the vacant field behind my house (the kids jump on our wall to go get them because there is a chicken wire fence around the field), and one landed on our roof.

    My concerns are:

    A) I have 2 dogs. Should a kid jump the wall to get the ball, the dogs would not be happy about that. I don't want a child to get hurt nor do I want to have to euthanize my dogs or be held liable for something like that.

    B) There is a large vacant field behind my backyard where balls also end up. The field is surrounded by a 5 ft chicken wire fence, so the kids end up jumping on our block wall and walking along the top...about 20 ft. There is obviously a huge fall hazard here. Again, I don't want to be liable!

    C) In addition to the safety concerns of the kids, we are not comfortable using our backyard in the evenings and now weekends because unless we are hyper vigilant, there's a real possibility of getting hit by a stray ball.

    D) Lastly, it's just a matter of time until our home sustains damage, whether it be a broken window, stucco damage, or even roof damage.

I've called the school district and the public school sports department numerous times, however I've not received a single call back.

What are our options, if any? Short of putting up netting that ruins our view and posting tons of No Trespassing signs, do we have any recourse or standing to demand they raise the fence around the soccer complex?

We are in New Mexico if that helps. Thanks!

Aprtment landlord recently installed floodlights that shine directly onto my bedroom window for 9 hours straight all night long.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:07 PM PDT

    This is occurring in Michigan:

I've lived in this apartment complex for 2 years. A month ago I signed another year long lease. 2.5 weeks ago my landlord installed LED floodlights on an adjacent building that shine directly into my bedroom window. The light is bright enough to read a book (even with the blinds closed).

I sent in a worker order about the issue 1 day after it happened. After 3 days with no response, I called to repeat the work order. I was told it would be fixed. Today (2 weeks later) I went into the office to put in the order again and I was told the light could not be adjusted, removed, or changed in any way. They told me to install blackout curtains. Except my apartment doesn't have AC so I can't use the curtains or else I won't get any air flow to my room. They told me that isn't their problem.

After reading the government issued legal guide to "Tenants and Landlords" it looks like I have three options:

    • Withhold rent until the issue is fixed
    • Small claims court
    • County sponsored mediator

I'm leaning towards contacting a mediator but I'm not sure if it will be worth my time?

I haven't been able to sleep in nearly 3 weeks. Please help.

My EXTREMELY nosey, intrusive, and delusional neighbors called CPS on me because they believed I leave my 17 month old at home alone.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:01 PM PDT

These people are in their 60's and brag to anyone who will listen about who they have called the city to complain about as well as constantly threatening to call the police and CPS for really anything. When they first moved in across the road from us, they were extremely "clingy". I could not walk outside my house without one or both of them zooming outside to ask me what (not how) I am doing. The lady is nearly housebound due to anesthesia gone wrong earlier in her life and the man is just very left of what most would consider "normal". To get to the point here, the lady texted me saying it would "be a shame if CPS was called and your precious little baby was taken away from you for endangerment". I ignored it. 2 days later her husband texts me almost the exact same thing, and told me to "tell them when I have corrected this problem". To be 100% clear: I have no idea where they got this from. So I responded politely asking to no longer be contacted by them and to please stop monitoring my house. The very next day I put my daughter in my truck behind my house to intentionally avoid their constant prying eyes. The lady is always standing in the window that faces my house watching everything I do (which I know is allowed) and it's extremely annoying. An hour after I leave I get a motion detector notification on my phone. The police were at my house looking in the windows. I went home and they searched my house for my daughter. As expected, everything was clear. My daughter was with the babysitter and they went to her house to verify that. So I have an open CPS case (soon to be closed) and I want to know if I can pursue anything legally against them. These 2 are a nuisance to everyone around. Can I legally make them uncomfortable to live there? They've barely been there a year. So sorry for the long post. I'm just very angry and upset.

    Edit: Texas

My twin sister is doing porn

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:08 PM PDT

We haven't been close for some years now, but somebody told me she did some porn films this year. This guy said it was kind of funny because it was like watching me.

I really doubt I could have any power over those films despite the fact we share the same facial features, but I guess asking around doesn't hurt.

Could I take those videos down on the grounds that people could confuse me with a porn actress?

Fired for “not reporting to manager for 2+ days”

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:13 AM PDT

I travel the country doing PM construction work. I was recently left a message over the phone stating that they were terminating me for "not reporting to a manager for 2+ days" I had actually been traveling for work with poor cell reception and zero WiFi in the areas days prior to them firing me.

I'm going to file for unemployment, but is there anything i can do if they lied on their separation letter?

(TX) Ex has left all of his property here and moved into long-term treatment. Family is not being upfront and I'm being taken advantage of.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:18 AM PDT

Referred here by another sub. I (38f) rent a house with my now ex (39m). We'd been together for 3 years, he's been very unstable and abusive throughout (unmedicated bipolar). In March/April, I communicated to his family (after telling him many times and being ignored) that he needed to move out. They finally intervened and put him in a long-term treatment facility leaving all of his stuff and dog behind.

Originally, they'd promised to get his stuff out of here within the first month after he left. Instead, his dad began paying me a flat $1000 for rent and, I'm assuming, care for his dog (I work in the canine care field and caring for a person's dog for a month would cost more than what his dad was paying). His Dad is a wealthy man and my best guess is he was paying because they didn't want to deal with moving his stuff and knew my ex would not do well in treatment if he thought he had to move back home afterwards.

More recently, my ex's sister called me up and offered me a trip with my ex and his dad. She said their dad would pay for lost income if I went on this trip. Hear me out here, I have been working 7 days a week, 12 to 16 hour days most of the time for 3 years now. I have not taken any vacation. The ex's mental health prevented him from holding down a job for the last 2 years so I worked like crazy to keep us afloat. I was not interested in the trip, but I was very, very interested in the paid time off so I reluctantly agreed to go.

We go on the trip, get back, it's fine. His sister reassures my ex she's gonna follow up with their dad about the lost income and my ex flies back to treatment. Since getting back, I haven't received a penny. It's been two months. I had to clear out my savings account to make up for it. I spent over 8 months diligently putting money away to prepare for my ex's inevitable departure and it is all gone. I blame myself, of course, for being stupid.

Now, his dad isn't sending any money but I still have all of my ex's stuff and his dog. Ex mostly stopped texting me but when this was brought up, his response is about how benevolent his dad is for sending me rent money the last three months and he does not acknowledge the promised lost income reimbursement. More recently, he accused me of sleeping with other men and said to just hold onto his stuff until he gets back. It is a lot of stuff.

Now, what do I do with all the stuff? He has a bunch of shit and I could not move a roommate in (my only option to stay afloat now it seems) because of it. I do not want to move it into storage because that would require me, an already overworked person, to move an entire house of shit by myself. I'll push it to the curb, that's as far as I'm willing to move it.

From what I've read, I'd have to put this all in storage, notify him via certified letter and then hold onto it for up to 3 years before I can consider it abandoned? Is there anyway for me to prevent myself from being further taken advantage of by these people?

I was given the title Knight of Sealand (link in comments). What are my legal rights to use the title "Sir"? Would I get in trouble for using it on airline tickets? What about on legal documents like passport applications?

Parents’ neighbor continuously abuses animals. How to stop him from owning more after the next one is taken away? Michigan.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 04:10 AM PDT

My mom can hear the sounds of her neighbor's dog crying in pain. This is his second dog since living there. The first one animal control removed (in the dog's adoption post they disclosed he came from an extremely abusive environment.) Animal control needs recorded evidence it's being harmed in order to take this dog away - Does vid recording of the dog yelping count considering what her neighbor did before? Is there anything she can do to stop him from getting another dog when/if this one gets taken away? They live in a small Michigan town. Please help.

I have the same name as a very popular nsfw adult celebrity. I have been commonly mistaken for this person on social media. Recently, I have received autograph requests for money. Is there any legal reason I cannot proceed if I never actually claimed to be the person they probably think I am?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:43 PM PDT

Title pretty much explains it all. I have been contacted by a few individuals asking for autographs and photos. My social media in NO WAY would lead someone to believe I am actually this person (it is quite obvious that I am not if you look at my photos) I just happen to share their exact name. During conversations with these individuals, I have not give them any reason to believe I am the person they are most likely assuming I am. By responding to a monetary request for an autograph by person with "THIS NAME" (which is completely true, that is my name) am I engaging in an unlawful practice?

My mom claims shes getting my abusive sister to move out, to invalidate my claim to welfare. (Switzerland)

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 04:06 AM PDT

To give some context, I (M20) live in Switzerland and the law here states that parents must pay all living and school expenses for their children's first education . This usually doesn't cover the children moving out, but because my, verbally and at times physically abusive, sister has moved back in with us for a time, I was able to get an "Indicationsschreiben", basically a letter that states that my home life is not good for me and that I need to move out on the grounds of my abusive sister. Fast forward a couple months of me alone calling, making appointments and filling out mountains of paperwork and I have finally been given a document from Social Services stating that my rent and living expenses will be paid for when I move out. Now my mother has come to me and claims she will be moving my sister into an apartment and that I won't have any claims to social services anymore when she does because the ground for me moving out was my sister. My sister is very difficult to live with and I don't believe she can manage living on her own. I have been given no assurance that she won't just move back in when she fucks up and I want to move out and move on with my life. It's Saturday and everyone I can ask about this is unavailable , if anyone knows anything about this please help.

My mom (43F) violated her child custody agreement with my father, resulting in me (21F) to be stuck with medical debt from years ago.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:50 AM PDT

My mom and dad seperated when I was 14. They were never legally married, so my mother fought for custody of both my sister and I. This was done all through their own personal lawyers and family social services in Missouri. In their child custody agreement, my mother had agreed to be responsible for providing my sister and I health insurance until we were 22 and paying for related bills (until my sister and I were both out of college). This went all well until my mother took a contracting job that didn't provide our family with insurance, leaving us uninsured.

When I was 18, I had to have emergency surgery. When billing came along to my room, my mother let me (on pain medicine and out of it) sign for myself and legally liable to pay my medical bills. At the time, I was not aware of my parent's agreement for health insurance, so I signed.

Now at 21, I am stuck with $30K in debt. My mother has admitted to me since then the child custody agreement, but I don't know how to proceed. She refuses to talk to her lawyer for any advice, so here I am. My father also won't help, since we haven't talked in years and he has no interest in fighting in court anymore.

So here are some questions: since I was 18 at the time, and could be legally responsible for paying my hospital bill, am I stuck paying it since I signed? Does my mother's agreement to pay for my medical treatment make her responsible to pay it? If so, how do I get my name switched with the hospital?

Only electric company available at apartment complex is charging double the local average rates

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:47 AM PDT

Hi, I live outside Columbus, OH and I just got my first electric bill for my new apartment. There is a single electricity provider (American Power and Light) and I noticed that they're charging $0.23317/kWh even though the average price in this city is $0.1176/kWh (almost half what APL charges).

Since this is the only electric provider for my complex, I have no ability to choose a cheaper provider. Is there anything I can do about this? Or am I misunderstanding something?

    Thanks

    Special Needs Trust

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:21 PM PDT

Hi, we had a Special Needs Trust created 15 years ago for our son. The social security administration denied the trust and now our attorney wants to charge us to file an appeal on our behalf. She won't defend her own document without charging for her appeal services. We paid $3k for a worthless document. What should we do?

    Edit: We live in Virginia

My mom wants her shares certificate, but she makes me nervous.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:04 PM PDT

I am 32/M, business is located in Philadelphia, PA, USA.

A couple years ago, my dad was very sick. Before he passed away, he signed his business over to me, my brother, my sister, and my mother. My mother, brother, and I all have 26%, and my sister has 22%.

As per my dads wishes (plus incompetence of my mom and sister), my brother and I run the show (there really was no other option, we were groomed to do it). My brother and I split the profits in (almost) half, and my sister, who doesn't work at all, gets 10%. My mom gets a weekly paycheck of $600 as requested by my dad. She got everything else though including all savings, all investments, a rental property, and the payed off house she lives in.

Anyways, I have held these certificates of shares for the past two years. Out of nowhere, my mom wants her copy. Technically, I believe it is hers to keep. They have just been in my possession for the past two years. She called me tonight and demanded them. I may have also upset her because I denied her and my sister access to the cameras at work. They actually are down at the moment, but I just told them I wasn't giving her the new password.

The thing is, she scares me and makes me nervous. For two years before my dad passed, I know she was having an affair with a family member from my dads side. I caught her. This guy is a manipulator and shady. I'm wondering what this guy could manipulate her to do.

What can my mom possibly do with her certificate of shares? As I was told by the lawyer who split the business, if shares are sold by either of the shareholders, it must be agreed upon by all shareholders.

Simply put, I just don't trust my mom and her potential. I want to protect this business, my dad's legacy, and of course my livelihood.

(Missouri) I (18f) am considering moving from my mothers home. She says she’ll make me stay. Can she?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:14 PM PDT

She says that since I'm still a senior in high school she can legally make me stay. I'm 18, meaning I'm a legal adult but I'm worried that since I'm still in school there might be some law making me stay. Can she keep me here, or get the people I move in with in legal trouble?

Apartment added a new monthly charge to my utility bill

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:14 PM PDT

My apartment complex, in Virginia, has a trash service where you can put your trash outside your door and a company will come and pick it up and take it to the dumpster. In my most recent water/sewer bill they added a "trash/service" charge that I asked them to clarify why.

Basically the "valet" company was taking the trash to the far, far away dumpster and then was paying American Disposal Services to take the dumpster. This new charge was suddenly added to all residents to help pay for American Disposal Services to take the dumpster.

My lease agreement says that the apartment complex will pay for the "valet trash" and it was incorporated in my rent cost. I did not receive any notice of this new charge being passed on. To me this doesn't seem ok, can anyone confirm if I'm right or wrong on this? And if so any advice on how to proceed?

Also I know this seems petty but I'm tired of being fucked over just because some company can do it. And it adds up over my lease term.

Body shop presented a 'final bill' that is thousands over the original estimate. What can I do?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:07 PM PDT

    In Atlanta Georgia.

Body shop gave me an emailed quote for bodywork and paint back in Oct 2018. I agreed to it. Car has been there nearly a year (its still there) and I was presented a 'final bill' that is $5k more than the quote. Owner said I requested "extra work" but I know I did not. He said they will keep the car until it is paid off. I have an email where he clearly shows the car (with pictures) with all the bodywork completed, and then he quotes the original dollar amount we agreed to and says "you got the greatest deal I have ever seen in this business." This email was from about 8 months ago, before I started bitching about the shop having my car for so long.

Body shop also destroyed a lot of parts on the car that I had to have replaced. The total for the damaged and destroyed parts is about $1500, but I don't care. I just want the car back.

To me, this seems pretty cut and dry, but I don't know what to do here. I can't seem to locate any specific consumer protection laws from GA online so I am hoping someone here can help me. I have all the emails and texts I've ever exchanged with the shop owner.
