How to handle a very negative workplace

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 07:44 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I have been at my current job for 6 weeks now as a Business Development specialist, where my main roles are sales and marketing for a golf club.

The club is honestly in such a shit storm right and everyone looks for someone to blame. Where I live July and August are the craziest months at a golf club so just starting at the beginning July was never Ideal. Training wasn't provided and neither was any real support. Within a month of being here I have increased social media engagement by over 1000% and we have completely smashed sales. I got called in early the other day for an expectations meeting. I pretty much sat in front of my boss and mentor for 45 minutes and just received negative comment after negative comment, many of which were blatant lies, this was also the first time I received any feedback. I have yet to receive any good feedback from my coworkers, although members and guests around the club constantly thank me and tell me of the good job I'm doing. After the meeting I worked straight 9 hours to get my work done. I sent an email out once I got off explaining my frustrations with the meeting that took place. Only received an email back from my mentor applauding my effort in the email. Again this morning I got a text of how I "didn't work long enough last night" (35 hour work-week contract).

I honestly am starting to really hate this job and coming to work is no longer enjoyable. I feel completely under valued, under appreciated, and always feel un motivated. If I were to attempt to bring this up with them they would deflect it back onto me. What do I do?

    Follow Up Calls

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 06:20 AM PDT

    Hey All,

What is your method for follow up call's? I know you are to provide value to each call. In the financial wholesaling biz it is hard to bring value if they don't let you run an actual case. Any thoughts?

Alternatively, if you don't think you are going to get the prospect moving in any direction, do you just call them later on? Aka. maybe 3 or 6 months down the road if the need doesn't seem to be urgent?

Please let me know your ideas as it has been keeping me up all night.

Do you ever mess with the assholes that you encounter?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:36 AM PDT

I'm an SDR and I may or may not have signed up an abusive prospect for multiple offers from Lusha, Time Shares, Devry, and made a phony craigslist or two for free iphone x+'s

Have ya'll done anything similar or am I uniquely petty (allegedly)?

I have an interview next week for a Sales Analyst position in Houston, Texas.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 07:27 AM PDT

Hey guys, I've done sales since my first job out of college but now I'm ready to move out of sales to a more quantitative role. I received an email for a Sales Analyst position for a company called Calpine. I don't remember applying to it tbh, but I applied to like 25 jobs per day so I'm glad i'm finally getting the traction I want.

What are some things I need to know or say in my interview so that I can be a good candidate for the job?

    Breaking into pharm sales

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:17 AM PDT

    Hello /r/sales!

My girlfriend is looking to get into pharm sales, she has a BS in health science and 5 years work history as a server. She's applied to a variety of pharm sales positions, but most require in field experience.

So far she has had one interview at a place that conducts business solely over the phone. The base pay is 15$/hr with no commission cap. The hiring manager claims the average salary after commission is 55k. She's hesitant to take the first job offered to her and wants to perhaps pursue some B2B position and then revisit pharm sales down the road. What do y'all think?

    CEO wants to chat but...

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:46 AM PDT

X-posted from r/jobs because I feel like interview process is different for salespeople.

Hello. I was contacted for a job from a competitor on LinkedIn last month. One phone interview with hiring manager, one in person interview that lasted 5 hours (whole team meet) and then a follow up phone interview with director of biz. They checked my references last week. I gave them five references total and they only contacted three. I reached out a couple days ago saying I'm still interested but things are moving along with other potential companies and wondering if a decision has been made. They responded with "thanks for the update on your job search, our CEO would like to speak with you next week"

I'm wondering why they checked references and alluded to that being the final step / decision and then after they called 3 references tell me that the CEO wants to chat (haven't spoken w/ him previously). I thought it might mean they're trying to string me along or maybe they're on the fence somehow.

How to structure a deal with a software re-seller?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 07:18 AM PDT

I've made a software product, that works with a popular ERP solution.

I'd like to offer it to other companies using the same ERP, but I only know a few that use it.

There are a couple of consulting companies that implement the ERP i.e. have a bunch of potential clients.

How can I go about using the consultants' contacts?

How can a deal be made with them as re-sellers? What is the usual cut for something like this?

Working for Enterprise Rent A Car as Sales Management Trainee?

Working in retail making $14 an hour and need a change in direction.

I got a phone interview with ERAC, and was wondering if anyone had any prior experience with them.

It's for a "Sales Management Trainee" position for 42K a year. Better than shitty retail with no benefits I imagine.

Role Play Advice Needed for SDR Position

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:25 AM PDT

After my initial interview with the hiring manager, I have been moved on to the role play stage of the interview process.

This is for an SDR position with a Fintech company that uses data and tools to enable clients (financial advisors/investors) to develop and visually communicate insights, make smarter investment decisions, and save time.

In this scenario I am a Sales Rep for the company. I have previously emailed a financial advisor and they have agreed to a 10 minute call. They are a small 3 person firm and I will be talking with the owner.

My goal is to get them interested enough to take a 30 minute demo but if I can close them on the call then I can.

Would really appreciate any advice/tips on how to approach this 10 minute call. Thank you very much and wish me luck!

    SDR roles/BDR roles in Boston

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:02 AM PDT

Hi Sales, I'm currently hunting for an SDR or BDR role in the Boston metro area. I just wanted to put a post up here to see if anyone had any leads or connections they could refer me to, I'm open to anything. I have two years of sales experience in financial services, where I did well, but I haven't held an official quota yet. Thanks!

Software to sequence custom emails through outlook (not mass emails)

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 08:53 AM PDT

Hi - I have a database of 500 small companies for which I have been writing customized emails in attempt to get on the phone with the C-level. Each email is typically customized, but every time I want to write a follow-up, I have to reorient myself around the company and restart my train of logic to break in.

Can anyone recommend a software tool that would allow me pre-write 4 or 5 messages at once, and then send them as follow-ups to the same thread at a specified sequence? Obviously it'd need to pause the sequence should I get a response

    Thank you!

Qualify businesses that have tax liability for commercial solar

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 12:03 PM PDT

I just sat down with my first proposal. The prospect completely devalued tax credits because he won't have any liability; makes sense. I want to be better targeted with those that will actually benefit from the tax credits/depreciation.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

Cold emailing. Out of these strategies, which is the most effective?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 03:41 PM PDT

(And feel free to say 'none of them' if you have something better!)

I do web development full time, but am looking to do freelance on the side.

I have done cold emailing in the past, and have always positioned getting a new / better website as a sales funnel to increase leads.

These are the strategies I've used thus far:

    1. Pitching on the first email for a meeting

    Email:

    Hi (Name),

I run a local web design & digital marketing firm in (their city). I'd like to schedule a sit-down to talk about your web presence.

I recently launched a local website (website). She's had a 47% increase in business and we continue to work together.

Are you available to sit down for a half hour or so during the next couple weeks? I'd love to go over some ways I can help you. Coffee's on me!

    Best Regards, Me

Result: On average, out of 100 emails, basically ~15 people respond, and it's a no. Honestly, I've gotten about 4 website projects using this template out of 2,000 emails sent. To me, that's pretty damn bad, even if I did get paying work out of it.

    2. One question cold email, then pitch

    Literally from here.

Say I'm emailing a renovation business:

    Email:

    Hi (Name),

    Do you do kitchen renovations?

When they reply, I reply with:

    Thanks (Name),

I have a unique approach to helping local (whatever business) owners increase clientele.

Not now as you're busy, but I'd like for an opportunity to talk for 5 minutes to show how this works.

How about this Wednesday at 2pm?

Result: crazy response rate (90%) to the first email, drops really low after the actual pitch. It is a bit misleading, as they think you're a customer, hence the low response rate. But I have got meetings from this, and I did close one deal so far with it.

    3. Free value email

A buddy of mine showed me this. He said it works wonders for him.

Create a short PDF filled with value, specific to their business and what I'm selling.

    Email:

    Hi (Name),

I help (whatever niche) get more local leads through Google Search. To explain more, I've created a free PDF checklist on what it is, and how it works.

Would you like me to send it over? It's about a 2-3 minute read.

Result: pretty positive. I'm not asking for a meeting, just offering to give something for free. A lot of people say yes, I send it over, but then hear nothing back. When I do follow up, a lot of people just say it's not the right time, no interested, etc. Maybe I'm not following up properly?

So, I'm wondering which one I should stick with here. My biggest point is I want to start setting up meetings, get people to say yes. Just wondering what the best way to do that is.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I created a targeted advertising platform for sales people. Which industry would it serve best?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:52 AM PDT

Hi r/sales, I created a web app that allows you to target specific prospects with customized marketing across display and social networks.

    Here is our website: https://www.hypertarget.io/

We are currently trying to figure out which industry/position this tool would serve best.

Do you think it would serve a particular industry better than others?

Do you think it would serve a particular role at the company better than others?

I'm just looking to gather thoughts on this. We want to craft our marketing around this market research.

    Cintas or Grubhub

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:18 AM PDT

I'm in the interview process with Grubhub already, I have a face-to-face interview with them on Thursday which I believe is where an offer would be extended if they choose to move forward with my application.

I just got a call from a recruiter at Cintas about my application and I'm waiting to discuss with them and begin the process.

    Grubhub OTE is 60-65k/year

I'm not too sure what it is at Cintas, brief research here leads me to believe its 70-75k

The Grubhub position is for inside sales and the Cintas position is for Uniform sales.

With this information and nothing more, if I get a formal offer from both companies, would it be wiser to go with one than the other?

A question for those more experienced

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:02 AM PDT

A little background... I am currently in construction sales, selling to contractors and homeowners. 20 years in construction, 7 years at a big box home improvement store before this company. 100% commission, and I will be close to $80-90K income this year. I currently have over 150 accounts and will generate around $3m in sales. We (wife and I) are looking at moving south in a few years so I am looking at sales jobs in that area just to get a feel for whats there. Current employer does not use a CRM and is very old school, a lot of road time, face to face, just show up and try to get orders. I am looking at expanding my knowledge so what would you recommend for training? I was looking at the free training that Salesforce offers as a way to help boost my appeal to prospective employers.

    SaaS Sales Requirements

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:19 AM PDT

I am looking to get into SAAS Sales. I live in the Bay Area currently and am looking at some job postings. I did technical and medical recruiting for about 11 months and tech sales for 3. Both companies were pretty much crap but I did learn some things. I made a lot of cold calls to random numbers that did not answer the phone for a product that was not unique with a price that was not competitive so I am used to rejection. I am now looking for a company that I can believe in. That has good glassdoor reviews good culture and overall a good product.

Some of the job requirements are a year of lead generation experience. Does that count as posting job postings on job websites, job requests on LinkedIn and Facebook or do you think it needs to be much deeper than that? Where can I learn the most about the lead generation techniques in order to impress the interviewers if I do get an interview?

Most jobs want you to have salesforce experience or at least it is highly preferred. I do not have that experience. Is there a place I can learn without actually using it or do I need to learn firsthand?

Also, developing target lists. Would that be just thinking of companies and trying to contact them or being more exact about who you contact?

I want to make sure I am as well versed as I possibly can be before I start applying for these jobs. I am also looking to have solid training and be coached to become a top earner. Can I expect that in SaaS SDR roles or ami expected to hit the ground running? Any more advice you want to give to someone who is trying to jump into the saas sales game is appreciated. Thanks for the advice

    Question cold e-mailing & phone follow-ups

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:13 AM PDT

    Hello dear sales pros,

I have been trying out a new way to prospect clients.

I basically provide online marketing consulting for e-commerce store.

I write a short e-mail and I do a 5 to 7 minutes video with an actual analysis of their marketing and give them actionnable tips.

I spent the last two weeks producing and sending 40 video e-mails. I got one prospective client that reacted and scheduled an appointment by their own.

The rest of them I follow up with on the phone, without much success.

However valuable this way of doing things I still get the "we get 100 offers like this every day" over the phone. Which is a really disgusting thing to hear when you know that the minority of sales people cares about providing so much value in a cold e-mail.

I definitely know that I need to send out more of those but 20 per week ist kind of all I can do, because you need to find the right prospect, filming and editing. So the only solution is to keep going week after week.

However, I wonder if some of you have good ideas what to say to people that do not value your approach once you call them?

    Thanks for your suggestions

    Yours,
    Pierre

    Zoning out and repetitive days

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 08:53 AM PDT

    Hi my fellow salesmen/women

So I work a desk job, I cold call used car dealerships get them to try out our application and try to close the sale.

I'm one of the top salesman here and that's due to our Hits we get as well.

One thing I'm finding myself doing after being here for a while is I zone out at my desk. I'm not day dreaming and I'm not thinking I just zone out while I work mindlessly.

My goals to make it everyday is 4 cc demos and I normally get 3-4 every day.

It gets repetitive and sometimes I wonder if I can produce the same amount of sales and demos I did the previous month.

However when it comes to follow up calls and closing I zone out.. I'm not sure if I'm challenging myself enough. I don't want to be stuck in a routine and I feel like I need a jolt of something to inspire me.

Especially since it's the beginning of the month, any tips?

    Questions about Appreciation Financial

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 08:47 AM PDT

Currently I'm in a very seasonal based sales position and looking to kind of "double up" so to speak in another sales position that's in the opposite season.

Looking into getting in to life insurance sales and retirement planning. I'm about to take the test for the proper license in my state. There's a company called Appreciation Financial that seems to fit the bill well enough in my area. Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with them and what their experience is?

I sale alternative investment funds to financial adviser, and I struggle to come up with pain-probing questions

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 08:42 AM PDT

I used to work at Salesforce, and there was a very high emphasis on asking probing question to uncover the prospect's L1, L2 and L3 pains.

I'm trying to recreate this at my current company, selling funds to investment advisers, but struggling to come up with anything.

Anyone in a role similar as mine can help with this?

Edit: I sell* can't update the title though...

Best site or subscription based service for businesses moving in or out

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 06:54 PM PDT

I'm looking to get ahead of businesses moving in or out of commercial buildings. I work with SMB clients for a big telecom company and market saturation is very high. The best way to get them signed up is figure out who's moving and where. I know I can look through liquor lists, county's website, new business lists. But that's not cutting it. I'm looking for a subscription based service that I can set filters for, permits for new construction, permits for buildings being torn down, contact info, and anything I need that may be used to my advantage. I'm open to all suggestions free or paid but I'm really wanting something quality, accurate, and customizable with a fair amount of data. Thanks in advance!
