If my house gets destroyed by a hurricane and I have a mortgage, would the bank want to close out the loan immediately after the insurance company pays out?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 03:59 AM PDT

Most of the discussions about "mortgage + insurance + disaster" seem to be about ability or inability to keep making monthly mortgage payments if the house gets destroyed.

    I have a different question.

If I can continue making monthly payments after the house gets completely destroyed. What happens once the insurance company pays out?

Would the bank want to get their remaining balance from that insurance money right away and close out the loan? Or would I be able to keep the entire insurance payout and use that money to build a new house while still making monthly payments to the bank?

I'm trying to figure out if I would be able to build a new house using insurance money and continue making my mortgage payments or if I would in effect be left with my land and the equity I had in the house and would have to look for a loan to build or buy a new house.

What insurance do I need for my business? [Professional Event Planner & Booking Platform]

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 03:01 AM PDT

    Hi!

I recently launched It's Your Venue, a booking platform that allows UK customers to find everything to create an event (venues, caterers, staffing agencies, photographers etc.) and book them all on one site. I also offer event planning services and have recently taken on clients in the near future to run and organise birthday parties, corporate events and weddings.

Before I get properly involved, I obviously need to sort out insurance! What insurance do I need and how much would it typically cost?

    Thanks in advance

Looking for Advice after Basement Flood

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:01 PM PDT

I left for holidays and the day after we left we received a call from our house checker that the basement had flooded.

Fast forward to today. All our floors/carpets/trim/doorways are ruined. Our drywall needs replacing, as does our hot water tank, furnace, washer and dryer.

My basement contained a BUNCH of my expensive electronics (game consoles and peripherals, audio equipment, my gaming PC) and a bunch of furniture.

Tomorrow we are going through what needs replacing. Some of the electronics were elevated above ground BUT their power cords were sitting soaking in the wall.

How should I determine what does and doesn't need replacing?! What if an item works for like a week then gives up?

Need advice/tips from anyone who has dealt with this!

    Thanks!

Car was damaged while being shipped and shipper wants to resolve outside of insurance.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 01:08 PM PDT

I bought a car recently and had it shipped to my home and the trucker damaged it during transport. They are accepting fault, but want to handle it without filing a claim with their insurance. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

    New policy...question?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:16 PM PDT

So Allstate has been robbing me blind for years and I've finally decided to switch. Today I bought a new policy through State Farm, as I was quoted less than half of the cost of my Allstate policy for more coverage. When I checked out, it charged me double my quote. I wasn't too concerned, I figured it was new policy fees or because I bought it before the end of the month and I'd be prorated, or maybe they just required two month's payment to start, but I went into my billing, and my remaining premium adds up to exactly what that double fee would be for the rest of the year. So I'm kind of confused. It said all through the process that I'd pay 83/mo. Not 166/mo. But apparently I'm paying 166 now that it's done. What gives? I agreed because I thought it was just the first month's charge which, I'd be okay with. I have a friend who used to work for them, and I've asked her, but I thought I'd ask the internet as well and see who I hear from first.

Edit: I bought my policy through their website. It hasn't been underwritten yet. I didn't speak with an agent. Might call in the morning. I wanted a specific office, the agent associated with that office has retired, his replacement doesn't start for a few days. It'll probably be a minute until it is underwritten. Could these charges be because of the automated system calculating six months automatically and...could that be fixed once underwritten? I just read all of the information in my documents...nothing references this. If, in fact, they are going to continue charging me this amount...can I back out and go elsewhere? Can someone with more insurance knowledge tell me if this will happen anywhere I go? When you buy a policy in month 8 of the year do they just squeeze the full six months into what's left and up your monthly payment? Because that's the only other thing I can think of. I thought policies were 6 months from purchase rather than Jan-Jun-Dec but...maybe I'm mistaken.

It's still less than Allstate was even doubled, but it's still...not what I agreed to by any means. I'm desperately trying to cut costs and was counting on the rate I was quoted. I asked my friend about fees beforehand and she told me the only fees are the $1-$3 processing.

Help! About to use Allstate Drivewise data to fire my nanny!

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:34 PM PDT

Most of you may know that Allstate has Drivewise to read the car's diagnostics and offer you up to a 30% discount on car insurance.

My nanny uses our car to drive young kids around. We opened up the Drivewise app to see some disturbing driving behavior - hard braking, "extreme braking", and speeding. Doing 55 in a 35 regularly, and a few times hitting >80 in a 40mph Road. Looks like she hit 96mph once on a 40mph road with my kids in the car.

Clearly, if accurate, this is grounds to fire her (at a minimum).

Before I do, question is - how accurate is this data? Is it POSSIBLE that it is incorrect? Every time I drive it accurately logs everything.

Wonder if anyone has ever used Drivewise in a situation like this, or a criminal proceeding (alibi), or to fight a speeding ticket.

The data has to be accurate, right?!?!?

Big life decision ahead of me, so appreciate the advice!

What kind of dental insurance is best for a 50 year old with gum disease?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:14 PM PDT

My family lives in California. I'm a contractor so I don't have insurance that covers my family. My mom has a later stage gum disease where a few of her teeth are lose, and she will have to get 4 teeth surgically removed, grafted, and crowned. She has to have check ins and medicine injected every 2 months.

Today, she had one tooth removed. It costed us $4k out of pocket because she has Medical and it doesn't cover these operations. She has 4 more teeth that eventually must be surgically removed too.

What's the best dental insurance for her? I don't know where to start. We're poor and don't have a lot of money, but I know this would save us more in the long run.

    Questions about Scoping

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 03:47 PM PDT

Trying to get my foot in the door as a Claims Adjuster, and have had some trouble doing so.

But I had a company tell me they could bring me on to potentially scope for them in Florida after Dorian hits.

Can anyone thats more familiar with scoping than I am, give me any kind of insight as to what I'd be able to expect? Maybe some idea of what kind of pay I could expect? (Assuming it'd be on a per claim basis)

I looked around on Google, but had trouble finding anything.

Any insight at all is greatly appreciated!

    Not sure of my options

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:07 AM PDT

I was on my previous employers health insurance through cobra temporarily while looking for new employment. I found new employment and wrongfully assumed I'd have coverage on the first day. They told me on accident there was a 60 day waiting period which then became a 90 day waiting period. There was a two month gap in between when I had cobra and starting my new job and I've been employed here for almost a month and I'm starting to develop anxiety since I don't have coverage. To my understanding I'm no longer eligible for Cobra or for marketplace coverage. What if any insurance can I get?

TLDR: No longer eligible for COBRA or Marketplace health insurance are there other options?

Please help Liberty mutual motorcycle claim

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 02:52 PM PDT

So I recently got into a motorcycle accident. rabbit ran in front of me and I dumped my bike (not alot of damage) so the adjuster was out 1 day after I filed a claim and gave me an estimate for repair costs which was about $1200 below the price of the actual cost to repair quoted from the repair facility. The claims adjuster missed obvious stuff like my mirror being all scratched from the dragging down the road and a few other odds and ends. So I spoke with a liberty mutual rep and they said "oh yes these supplements are usually submitted and approved with having to go look at the bike". So the adjuster called me today and said he now has to go look at the additional damage.(I'd like to note everything is being done on the up and up nothing shady or illegal) basically long story short anyone deal with this before? Are they going to start knit picking and say well that's only scratched so we're not gonna pay for that. And does anyone know if the supplement changes from LM estimate are usually paid out without getting nickle and dimed? Any advice or similar experiences anyone could share would be wonderful!

Do they need to add an endorsement to their personal lines auto policy to be properly insured , such as an Uber driver would need to add the ride sharing endorsement.

Insurance Taking a Long Time with Claim

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 02:11 PM PDT

This is a situation my friend is going through so, I may not have the information so bare with me.

My friends have gotten in a accident a few weeks ago and have a full police report of the other person admitting fault and they also have insurance. My friends and the person that hit them have the same insurance company. The insurance company have yet to say whos fault it was and etc and have been calling the other driver to get more information or something and have been putting this off for weeks. My friends need their car fixed now and they haven't even given them a rental or anything. What are the work arounds to this?

    Personal Property Insurance

My camera broke(estimated $2k+'ish), insurance says it's covered up to $7k, repairs estimated at $800 to fix. received it back saying it's unrepairable. Does that mean I get the full $7K?

Is $500 for "inconvenience" standard for no injury collision?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 05:07 PM PDT

I was rear ended & their insurance company has accepted liability. My vehicle is at the repair shop supposed to be reviewed soon. They've set me up with a rental.

I mentioned to their insurance company my Dr checked me out & said I have minor whiplash. Dr is a friend = no charge for the exam. A week later I feel 100% fine. Their insurance company offered $500 with no documentation required.

    2 questions

    1. Is this considered a fair amount? Seemed a little too easy.

    2. Are there any other things I should be thinking about other than my car being repaired that they should be paying for?

Driver scraped my parked car while backing out of parking spot

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 04:06 PM PDT

I was fortunate enough to be sitting in the car and stopped the driver before he made an attempt to drive away but we agreed that we would settle this privately and now the total for the repair comes close to 1k.

The driver said I should just call his insurance so they can settle everything but I read that if I fail a claim, even my insurance will go up and progressive, the insurance I have, is known to sky rocket the rates even when it's not your fault. I don't know what I should do, the scratch is there but it's near the lower side of the rear bumper so hardly visible but I still would want to have it fixed but the only thing giving me second thoughts is the rates going up

Adjuster mentions 'shared liability - but I was not at fault

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 03:52 PM PDT

Had an adjuster say 'we got the police report looks like there might be some shared liability here'. Unequivocally, I know I was not at fault. Unfortunately, I don't believe there were any witnesses, but what are my options?

Can I use my Event Data Recorder to retrieve what happened? Long story short: I want to prove that I was hit into someone.

For reference, I was hit by someone going 30+ on the freeway. That hit me into the car in front of me and bounced a couple times between them. I think because the person in front of me said they were hit twice is causing the issue.

Thank you for any advice. I'm just so frustrated that I'd have to share 'fault' for this. I did nothing wrong.

Screwed by double insurance. Now what?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 02:32 PM PDT

    Location: Los Angeles

So I have 2 insurances: Kaiser Permanente HMO from my employer, and Anthem HMO from my parent's employer.

I had some health issues I wanted to get checked out. Since Kaiser had high copays, I decided to "save" $70 by continuing to use my parent's insurance and seeing an Anthem doctor. I didn't realize the when you have 2 insurances, the second one is essentially worthless.

Long story short, now I owe about $8k for some blood tests. Both insurances are refusing to cover anything.

Anthem demands an EoB from Kaiser before they consider covering anything.

Kaiser demands an itemized bill from the medical provider

The medical provider refuses to work with Kaiser. They keep saying they don't have the capability to submit their paperwork to Kaiser's claims. I've tried mailing my own copies of the bill to Kaiser, but Kaiser refused them saying they need the paperwork from the medical provider.

The lab where I got the blood tests from said they sent the bill to Kaiser so that Kaiser can provide an EoB, but it's been months and Kaiser still hasn't processed these bills. Furthermore Kaiser is just unresponsive in general.

I'm not sure any of that even matters though. I read through both insurance contracts and it seems like I'm screwed either way because Kaiser won't cover anything from an outside health provider that couldn't have been done within Kaiser, and Anthem won't cover anything that could have been covered by Primary insurance.

Now what? Am I just royally fucked? Or is it worth getting an attorney?

Getting into cyberinsurance from other areas of insurance

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:22 AM PDT

Currently I'm working in UK motor insurance and I'm relatively new to the industry (recent grad). Just this morning I was approached by one of my team leaders who suggested I apply for the role of junior technician in the IT deptartment because I had previously mentioned I had an interest in computers in my interview and they needed the post filled.

What I'd like to know is what is the flexibility for getting into cyber insurance from such a position (IT support) because I am very much interested in that specifically. Or, will I be shooting myself in the foot and ruining my chances of progressing upwards within insurance itself? I'm really hoping I can get the best of both worlds here.

Cigna: Primary vs Secondary Paternal Care ( Washington State)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:07 AM PDT

I have been trying to figure out my best course of action with Cigna in regards to Primary vs Secondary care as the husband. My wife is due in about four weeks, and at first my HR team was confident that Cigna would grant me Primary Care which would be paid 12 weeks. After I began the process, I am finding out that Cigna is using my gender as a reason for not granting primary. In addition, they have also stated " the primary parental leave covers reasons for surrogates or adoptions for same sex relationships, or a male going thru the surrogate or adoption process alone. If this does not apply, then this will be considered secondary parental leave".

Initial conversations with some HR VPs have said that Cigna cannot determine my coverage based off gender. I am also seeking additional advice. It seems that Cigna is not considering maybe I am indeed the primary parent that will be taking care of the child.

Is there anything that Cigna is doing, that is an area I can contest?

Should I make a statement "I am the parent who provides the most care for my child.." etc.

    Thanks!

Travel nurse being offered private insurance.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 01:23 PM PDT

My husband is a travel nurse and although we currently have insurance through his recruiting company we were offered a private insurance through an individual on a travel nurising group we are in. I know too little about insurance to know if it is too good to be true.

We were offered a Cigna PPO plan that will be between $463-$573/month for my husband, me and our 9 month old. We are both non smokers and in the overweight to healthy weight range with no previous medical issues.

Accepted in all 50 states No copay No deductible Surgery 3k out of pocket them 100% after Max out of pocket 5k for pregnancy 4k accident protection 2 dental visits and x-rays/year Oral surgery 80% coverage after 6 months Major care 12 month waiting then 70% Contacts/glasses 1 time a year for $10

Does this sound too good to be true? We pay more than double that now for only slightly better insurance. What are some questions I can ask to make sure it is legitimate before I give any personal information over? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

How does my insurance compare to most?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:36 AM PDT

Work for a small local company, around 40 employees.

Insurance is offered in two types of plans. A traditional co-pay plan, and an HSA plan. I've gone with the hsa plan.

Deductible is $1,500, max out of pocket is $4k. Basically you pay everything until you hit the deductible, then insurance pays something like 80% till you hit the max out of pocket. The kicker is that my wife is a stay at home mother and she is on my plan. So the deductible and max out of pocket doubles.

I pay somewhere around $300 a month for this insurance.

Wondering what others have and how this stakes up on a scale of 1-10?

Health Insurance vs Geico for PIP Insurer

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 05:09 AM PDT

Trying to decide whether I should go with Geico as my primary PIP insurer or my own health insurance. I know choosing my own health insurance would get me a lower monthly payment which is why I want to make sure I make the right decision. I received an email from my health insurance saying:

"Accidental coverage is covered under your Emergency Room (ER) benefit. This benefit is covered with a $2,500 deductible per person subject to a $0 copay per ER visit at 100% coinsurance with no dollar limit per contract year."

My employer pays for my deductible so that's $0 as well. Am I missing something, is the obvious choice here to go with my Health Insurance?
