Posted: 08 Aug 2019 04:06 AM PDT Hey folks, about two months ago I bought a brand new Ford E350 box truck with Unicell body for about $43k. Two days after buying it I was rear ended by a semi causing $8k in damage to the box. The damage actually wasn't that severe but these fiberglass bodies are difficult to work on so $6k of the $8k was labor. The at fault driver's insurance company (Amtrust, if it matters) has agreed to negotiate on devaluation. The adjuster asked me what I thought I should get, and they're also going to talk to an appraiser. What do you think I should ask for? Also what should I reasonably expect to walk away with? They're already in almost $13k between repairs and rental fees. Thanks for any advice. [link] [comments] |
Non judgemental advice for a big mistake please. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:25 AM PDT Hi guys, first time posting on this sub I really hope someone can help me. So nearly 2 years ago me and my husband (UK) took out joint life and critical illness cover alongside our mortgage. Now we bought the cover from a friend of my husbands who told us both to say that we had never smoked. Now we are both ex smokers (6 years) who are extremely unlikely to ever smoke again so at first I was happy to say I was a non smoker and always had been. Now my doctors surgery has just given all patients online access to their medical records and it states that I used the stop smoking service 6 years ago. Obviously if I was or my husband ever was to claim on our policy this would be flagged up (right?) And now I'm panicking that if anything was to happen we wouldn't be covered. My husband is telling me not to be silly and it's fine (presuming because his friend sold us the product) but I'm literally having sleepless nights over this! Please advise as to the best course of action. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Should I file a police report/tell insurance company or get repair cost from the other driver. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 02:47 PM PDT Hey, I was parked in a street sitting inside the car, and the car on the other side of the road was trying to go besides a car that was double parking, but the car hit me. After I called the cops, the other driver said she didn't want me to call the insurance company or report accident because she doesn't want her rates to increase. She said she will pay me the repair cost and gave me her licenses to take a picture. The cops came after she left, and they told me since she exchanged info, I would have to file a report and send it to some address. So should I file report and inform insurance company or just believe her. I have attached pictures of the damage https://ibb.co/yh57N6z https://ibb.co/9s8rtbt https://ibb.co/5xKqnZM https://ibb.co/k0bQTdk [link] [comments] |
Questions concerning first car accident. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 03:43 PM PDT I was in my first car accident today. I have a few questions. 1) All of my airbags went off and the front and rear bumpers were pretty damaged with a few dents as well. Will my car likely be totaled? 2) I was not at fault, the driver behind me was. The officer did not give me his info and I was so rattled, I forgot to ask for it. Will the insurance information be in the police report? 3) Since it will take a few days to get the police report information back, can I go ahead and get a rental car? Will his insurance company reimburse me? 4) After the accident, I found that my hearing was decreased in my left ear, I suspect from the airbag. I'm a nurse, and I already spoke with a fellow MD I work with, who said the ER would most likely do nothing for it except to give it a few days to come back to normal. Should I still go to the ER to have it checked out in case it does not fully go back to normal. 5) The officer did tell me that the guy had the same insurance information as me. He was at fault. There were five cars involved. Will this be a longer than usual process to get a check for the damage or possibly quicker? [link] [comments] |
Non owners insurance for uninsured car? Posted: 07 Aug 2019 06:09 PM PDT Hey folks! So I'm headed up to Alaska shortly for a week long trip. I have a friend living up there that has an extra car that I could borrow. Problem is that the car is uninsured since they don't use it. How would I go about getting the car insured for myself? Are there similar insurances available for individuals as rental companies offer? Any specific company I should be checking with? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:45 PM PDT Hey there, We recently had a hail storm and I finally got my estimates from my adjuster. I'm not as familiar with the siding side of things but feel like my estimate is WAY low. Is there anyone here that would be willing to look it over for me? I can give all details, etc. I'm just concerned since the one siding quote I've gotten back so far was almost 5k more than my estimate. We have storm chasers in town at the moment but am pretty determined to go with someone local. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 07:03 PM PDT Please if someone can offer advice or direct me to some reading material so I can learn what to do I would greatly appreciate it. Location: Texas Insurer for both policies: Blue Cross Blue Shield I am not well-versed with insurance so I will just put the different plan info here in case it helps with my question. My insurance (I assume it would be my primary) Plan Type:PPO Individual Deductible in-network/out-of-network: $2,000 / N/A Individual OOP Max in-network/out-of-network: $4,000 / $8,000 Coinsurance coverage in-network/out-of-network: 80% / 50% My dad's insurance (I assume this is secondary) His is a family and has 3 tiers when I look at the coverage online. *Tier 1 (T1): In-network/preferred provider at employer facility *Tier 2 (T2): In-network/non-preferred provider at non-employer facility *Tier 3 (T3): out-of-network Individual Deductible T1/T2/T3: $350 / $350 / $750 Family Deductible T1/T2/T3: $1050 / $1050/ $2250 Individual Coinsurance Max T1/T2/T3: $2150 / $2150 / No limit Family Coinsurance Max T1/T2/T3: $6450 / $6450 / No limit Individual out-of-pocket T1/T2/T3: $7350 / $7350 / N/A Family out-of-pocket T1/T2/T3: $14,700 / $14,700 / N/A Coinsurance Coverage T1/T2/T3: 90% / 80% / 60% Primary Care T1/T2/T3: $20 copay / $30 copay / 60% coinsurance Specialist Care T1/T2/T3: $25 copay / $35 copay / 60% coinsurance Situation: I was in a freak bicycle accident on my way to work last week that ended with me 1) taking an ambulance to the ER, 2) being in the ER for CAT scan and initial doctor to see me (out-of-network plastic surgeon), and 3) transferred to a hospital room while I waited to have emergency surgery by the out-of-network plastic surgeon in the evening. When I was asked for insurance in the ER I gave only my insurance as I forgot I am still covered by that second policy. The ER/Hospital I was taken to was in-network for my insurance, but the treatment I received was from out-of-network doctors. I called my insurance to clarify what happens now and they have told me because it was a true emergency I should be receiving bills as if it is in-network regardless of who was available for treatment. I am not going to worry about this at the moment. I have not received any bill or EOB yet as it has only been one week since treatment. My concern/Question: Should I call the hospital and doctors office and give them the info for my second policy I am covered by? Is it possible that I would end up having to pay more for my coverage due to the family plan out-of-pocket maximum higher than my individual plan? Second question: I enrolled in an HSA when I got my insurance a month ago, but I now think I am not eligible for one since I now realize I have a policy attached to me which isn't eligible for HSA enrollment. I've only made one deposit of $50 into the HSA so far which hasn't been used. What should I do about this to proceed? Will it affect me from using my dad's insurance as a secondary insurance if I choose to do so? Thanks so much in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and share knowledge. Edit: I am sorry, I tried to fix the formatting but I think it is still ugly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 07:13 AM PDT I own a Tesla with an intermediate level of their driver assistance package referred to as Enhanced Auto Pilot (cost $5k at purchase) and my car is 'fully insured' with just about everything insurance will sell me. When insuring the car and later when getting new quotes, i am asked for the Brand/Model and VIN but never anything about the trim (in addition to autopilot, the car also has an upgraded interior for example). I am considering the purchase of a software upgrade costing $3,000 to get additional car features referred to as FSD (and, while called Full Self Driving, it is absolutely not full self driving, but it does have additional features). The upgrades stay with the car and are not transferable to a new vehicle. Assuming that my vehicle is in a collision and is a total loss, the vehicle payout will be based on what i can purchase a similar vehicle for (model, mileage). How will trim upgrades made at original purchase be factored in? How will software upgrades purchased afterwards be factored in? If I save my receipt for FSD ($3k), and present it to the claims adjuster, will that be paid out so that I can purchase it again on the replacement vehicle? How 'set and standard' is this situation vs. variable because of treading new ground and inconsistency between insurers. As stated, i want to be 'fully insured'; what steps should I take to be certain I receive proper coverage for my car and its software upgrades? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:24 PM PDT I was recently looking into shopping around for another renters insurance company. I have been finding rates, for very basic, $20,000 personal property insurance coverage that go anywhere between $30-$38 monthly, which is actually pretty absurd. Come to find out I'm getting these rate quotes because my landlord filed an insurance claim for a broken water heater and some water damage at the house I rent, six months ago. Never would have I thought that, by my landlord filing an insurance claim for his property, would affect my rates too. It's pretty absurd. Also, the water damage did not damage any of my property and I was not listed on any of the claims forms. But I am confused as to how can this possibly effect me in higher premiums? Is there anything I can do, short of moving? [link] [comments] |
Commercial General Liability in Canada - Past jobs Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:48 PM PDT I am a sole proprietor of an electrical contracting company. If I were to go out of business and stop paying for commercial general liability, and say 5 years down the road, a house I wired burns down, would I be covered due to the fact I had liability insurance at the time I did the job? I can not find any information about this in my insurance package, this sub, or google. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:19 PM PDT Military movers damaged my rental house. Just finally came to an agreement on a settlement for the damage. I was told they were cutting the check today and suddenly "new evidence was discovered that may absolve their liability" and the check is now delayed. Am I being taken for a ride? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 11:12 AM PDT I'm interested in learning more about the big picture for the insurance industry. Digital resources are great, but definitely open to anything. Failure to wear seatbelt violation Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:20 PM PDT I was in my friends Jeep & all the passengers, including me stood up. We then got pulled over & since I was in the front seat I got a ticket. Will this affect my insurance at all/have any affect on my record? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Its freaking impossible for me to get a car cause of how much insurance will cost. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:06 PM PDT I dont have a parent's insurance to hop on unlike like most people. Im starting from scratch all by myself. 29, rebuilding credit, $38k salary, new driver. This system is completely stacked against me. $560-$780 a month are my lowest quotes so far. That's insane. No way I can afford that. But I need a car. Is there really no affordable option for low income single adults? I can't join a friend's or neighbor's insurance? At least a sibling? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 06:02 PM PDT I will start by saying me and my dad have a very distant relationship as he was absentee. I am young and know nothing about the insurance realm. He called me a while back asking for information such as my social, address ect saying that he needed it to make me a beneficiary for a life insurance policy he was purchasing. Today I got a letter in the mail from the American National Insurance Company saying the following "We would like to thank you for purchasing one of our products." It has a policy number and the rest of the letter is a survey asking various questions about my "purchase". I did not purchase this. I was not present when whatever he did took place. I did not consent to anything nor have I signed anything. Is it possible he took out and insurance policy on me and made himself a beneficiary? I am very confused about what took p lace here and have no idea what to do. [link] [comments] |

Just wondering - insurance for custom car Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:25 PM PDT I have a modified car. For example, I have aftermarket camshafts in my car. If my car is a total loss, am I allowed to get them back? I still have oem and since they only own oem parts on the car, then can I give them oem shafts and keep my aftermarket ones? Elective Surgery - What is it exactly? Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:36 PM PDT I am an incoming college student and noticed that my school's health insurance excludes "elective surgery/treatment" I have a torn labrum and rotator cuff, confirmed by prior MRI. Is the surgery for this considered elective? [link] [comments] |
Accident Forgiveness - premium just increased $700 (Ontario, Canada) Posted: 07 Aug 2019 05:30 PM PDT A couple of weeks ago, I was driving my boyfriends car while mine was in the shop. I overestimated my ability to back into a parking spot, and smashed into his brothers car, damaging both. My boyfriend decided to put it through insurance (Belair Direct), given that he has been with his insurance for 10+ years with no claims, and has accident forgiveness. Today in the mail, my boyfriend received a statement of his insurance renewal which has increased from $1900 to $2600. He called Belair to clarify, specifically noting the recent claim and accident forgiveness coverage. The agent replied that his premium did not go up because of the accident, the premiums just generally increased. Comparing both statements, the cost has been raised in all areas (collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, etc) and to boot, he is still being charged for accident forgiveness. We're trying to make sense of this. Is accident forgiveness ultimately irrelevant/ just a con? Finding it hard to believe that such an increase is a coincidence. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:50 AM PDT (U.S.) I left my job in July for a new company and so I have a gap month in health insurance for August since the new benefits don't kick in until September. I need proof that my plan was terminated to enroll in the marketplace to cover this gap. The insurance broker forgot to submit the paperwork and my insurance (Anthem) still shows as active so I can't get anything else, but technically that plans not being paid for. I've been calling the broker from my old job every day and they keep saying that they submitted it and it should go through soon, but Anthem still has it as active and they can't help. The deadline to submit paperwork (which I don't have) is tomorrow or I won't be covered for August. I literally can't legally get insurance anywhere for the month of August because of this, and I'm pretty pissed because I've been trying to get it straightened out since mid July. What are my options here? P.S. Cobra's not an option. Company was too small and it wasn't offered. [link] [comments] |
Looking for low price renters insurance. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:20 PM PDT Live in California wondering what are some good options, currently tried looking into Triple A and All state, roommate heard something called Lemonade? Not sure about that one. No idea on where else to look. Looking for 100,000 minimum liability coverage and a policy where two peoples names can be on it. [link] [comments] |
Texas, other driver at fault, when to bring up loss of use and diminished value claim? Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:51 AM PDT Got hit by another driver, their insurance company accepted full liability. Car has been out for two weeks now and they still haven't started on repairs yet. No rental car provided. As much as I like to have the car totaled it won't be likely. On top of the repair, I am planning on going after 1. loss of use and 2. diminished value claims. Both are support by Texas state law based on my research. Planning on using independent company that specializes in diminished value to figure out the value. The only part I'm not sure about is when to bring up these two claims, should I wait till the repair is complete to talk to them about it or is there a better time to bring that up? Thanks! Shower leak, defective shower tub. Posted: 07 Aug 2019 03:28 PM PDT Discovered a leak in my second story shower, which is a pre-fabbed unit, that went through the ceiling. Initially, I sealed it with which prevented it from leaking for about a month. I've replaced the entire drain assembly but it doesn't fully seat and it seems to be a manufacturer defect. I had a plumber apply a more durable sealant (10year waterproof) around the drain but can't test it until it cures, after installing a new drain it was still dripping slightly due to imperfect fit within the outlet for the shower unit. The previous set up was filled with sealing foam which prevented the leak from being noticed for God knows how long. The company that makes the shower/tub warranty expired last year. (Bathcraft) Am I SOL if my second repair doesn't work and continues to drip water? Can I get home insurance to fund remodeling the bathroom since it is a prefab unit? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Aug 2019 02:23 PM PDT I am desired for a position I am a great fit for however was recently convicted of a a dui (first time offender) they are overlooking it but there are some duties that may require transporting a client (it's for a homeless shelter) so they are waiting to see if their insurance will take me. This all just happened at once and I'm waiting to get my sr-22 and restricted license, also my interlock device installed. Other than this I have a clean driving record. Is it a lost cause? Posted: 07 Aug 2019 02:21 PM PDT I tried to cram as much information as I could into the title. The longer story is as follows: I was biking to the gym from my house one day and a car broadsided me. I had some broken bones, lost consciousness, concussion, etc. I decided to file a claim with the driver's car insurance to cover my bills. Now I'm trying to learn all about this process. I've never been involved in an insurance claim and there is so much information that I don't know. So far I've determined that it is possible to file a claim with his car insurance even though I was on a bike. My auto insurance includes "underinsured motorist" coverage for bodily injury. From what I understand, if my bills/claim is valid but the person who hit me does not have enough coverage to pay, then my auto insurance will cover the remainder (up to my limit). This means that nobody has to sue anybody. TL:DR QUESTION: If I am on a bike and get hit And my claim exceeds the driver's coverage And my auto insurance includes underinsured coverage Then does my auto insurance kick in? Keeping in mind that I was on a bike. I swear my insurance company doesn't know the answer to this question. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. [link] [comments] |
