One of Tesla's biggest long-time haters has become a lover and a buyer, Shark Tank's Kevin O’Leary

This guy has always been a huge shitter on Tesla, but he's decided to get into it despite his understanding that the balance sheet doesn't look great right now (mostly due to high investment in growth and an unexpected extremely fast build of the Gigafactory in China)

Anyone know any infamous mystery traders?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 04:26 PM PDT

I was recently reading an article about a rogue trader given then name "50 cent". He was given this name because of his trading habit of buying 50,000 Vix calls at 50 cents a pop every day.

The idea of some random able to effect the market and lose/win hundreds of millions without anyone know who they are is very interesting to me.

I'd be interested to read about any other similar traders there may have been?

Analysts not expecting much from tomorrow’s AAPL earnings Q3 2019 (9to5mac article)

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 10:46 AM PDT

    https://9to5mac.com/2019/07/29/aapl-earnings-q3-2019/

Not expecting much myself either. Trade has improved with China but I imagine the pain from trade war will continue to be felt.

Nothing really new with their product line, I think mostly BAU. Outlook will be most important.

AAPL will continue to be AAPL, but IMO they're lacking innovation to really move the needle.

Any picks for great companies making moves in quiet sectors?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:23 PM PDT

I've been on a Peter Lynch binge recently and he mentions an affinity for companies that are in boring industries that are making moves but getting no love, so it got me wondering if you guys have any picks like that?

I'm starting to look at companies that make parts for plane repairs but I'm not sure if that's boring enough.

does it exist: if I invested $x in [ticker] on xx-xx-xxxx date, how much would it be worth now?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:40 PM PDT

is there a calculator or tool that quickly can give a stock's percentage increase and how much your money would have grown if you invested, for example, $1000 in AMZN on 01-01-2000? would ideally factor in dividends, any restructures or splits, etc

    thanks

How should I invest my trust fund?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:06 AM PDT

I recently became aware I was old enough to take control of my government trust fund. It has a value of around £1,100. I am not yet old enough to withdraw the money, but I can re-invest it in a different location. I have been learning about the stock market over the past couple of days and I know the basics, I have also been paper trading on trade 212. If anyone has any advice on how to best utilise the money advice would be much appreciated.

    Let's talk about $BA

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:53 PM PDT

BA has been going through quite the phase lately, with everything 737 related, but the stock has behaved oddly in accordance with that.

Before their most recent earnings release there was a headline about the total financial hit that grounding the 737 would bring, and it was a number around $5billion. (I don't remember the exact date/time of this release). However, despite this news, BA rose ~4% the next trading day, reaching around 378$ a share. Over the next couple of days, the stock ended up reaching the high 380s, and then the earnings report came.

Since plummeting, BA sits at about 340 a share as I type this. Even though the company took a $5bil price hit, they exceeded the expected earnings with a ~51% surprise. Despite out earning exprectations, the stock fell.

My personal experience would lead me to conclude that BA is in a short dip, and will continue to rise, given how they outperformed earnings expectations by a great deal, but then again, I could be wrong.

What are your thoughts regarding BA?

Vanguard's VFINX and VOO both track the S&P 500 Index, why is there a massive difference in Expense Ratio?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:32 PM PDT

Both VFINX and VOO have similar share priced at $279 and $277, respectively. But why is there a massive expense ratio difference? VFINX has a 0.14% while VOO is at 0.03%. What causes the big difference?

    APPL, Keep Or Sell?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:24 AM PDT

Hello Everyone! I have a few thoughts on AAPL stock' short term future and I was wondering if the r/Stocks community shares similar sentiment.

I would really appreciate any and all feedback. Thank You!

    • Apple won't be releasing a 5G phone until 2020

    • iPhone 11 / iPhone XI (2019) model renders look awful! I doubt many iPhoneX, XS, XS Max users will upgrade.

    • MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air butterfly keyboards suffering from "sticky" or "do not respond in a consistent manner" issues.

Apple has launched a Worldwide repair program for faulty notebook keyboards, which runs until June 2022.

    https://www.macrumors.com/2018/06/22/apple-macbook-pro-keyboard-repair-program/

    • Apple will reportedly begin getting rid of the MacBook's butterfly keyboard this year, Starting with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, with other models to follow in 2020

    https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/25/8930531/apple-macbook-butterfly-keyboard-new-design-pro

My predicament: AAPL makes up to 15% of my portfolio and it doesn't feel like Apple will be making any big strides in 2019 or Early 2020.

My question: If you were in my position, Would you sell all AAPL stock and invest in a Technology ETF, e.g. VGT, Until Apple woes are over?

PS. Pardon my English. It's not my first language.

Selling covered calls in IRA account

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:19 AM PDT

So I like to be active in managing my stock/retirement portfolio and have been thinking of selling covered calls in my IRA account to generate extra funds. Aside from the potential loss of profit if the stock goes above the strike price, are there any other downsides to doing this that I'm not considering?

Thoughts on merger between EXAS and GHDX?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:32 AM PDT

News came out this morning regarding EXAS merging with GHDX. It was rumored this weekend but the terms are being finalized it would seem.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-genomic-health-m-a-exact-sci/exact-sciences-in-advanced-talks-to-buy-genomic-health-for-2-8-billion-bloomberg-idUSKCN1UM0OZ

EXAS took a hard hit this morning and news has also come out suggesting an investigation into the merger terms. I am curious if anybody has any insight about how the merger and investigation may impact the stock prices in both the short and long-term. Both companies have been doing quite well individually as of late and EXAS earnings were on track this morning. Thank you.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:22 AM PDT

Long story short, I had an investment guy before I knew anything about stocks (who is now fired) who bought husky energy a few months ago and now its down 25%, does anyone know why its falling so hard? It looked like Q2 earning beat the estimated amount too. Is it expected to rebound and is this a buying opportunity?

Thinking about investing in Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) but have broker with Fidelity. Should I make the switch to Vanguard?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:03 AM PDT

I believe Fidelity charges a commission fee of $4.95 to buy VOO ETFs while if you're with Vanguard, it's free to buy VOO. Other than that, the expense ratio is 0.03% and applies to both brokers. Should I make the switch to Vanguard to avoid the commission fee every time?
