Legal Advice my mom wants to terminate her parental rights because I don't want to have an abortion

my mom wants to terminate her parental rights because I don't want to have an abortion

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:01 AM PDT

I'm 16 years old and live in Pennsylvania.

The people at the clinic wouldn't do the abortion after I said my mom was forcing me. They told my mom it has to be my decision.

My mom said she's going to the courthouse to give up her parental rights. Can she do this?

Editing because some people are being really rude: I know what my options are. I know that she can kick me out when I turn 18. I know that I need a plan. I'm 16, not an idiot. I literally just want to know if she can terminate her parental rights immediately - there's a difference between having almost 2 years to plan for myself and my baby (which I'm not EVEN SURE I WANT TO HAVE YET I AM JUST STILL THINKING ABOUT MY CHOICES) and being kicked out onto the street immediately while pregnant.

City government lied that our water was safe. We paid for our own test and it proves the water violates the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act. What do we do now?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 05:57 PM PDT

Our water quality is directly linked to the amount of water being used. The more water the city pumps from the aquifer the higher the radium numbers rise. Our city had been testing the water only during our city's lowest usage days.

A member of the city paid for an independent water test. The results violate the EPA's Safe Drinking Water act.

Anytime someone has gone to city council meetings and asked for the water to be rechecked they were literally told to shut up and sit down.

Can we have a class action lawsuit? How do we force the city to join the nearby cities water system that does have safe drinking water? What can we do?

My Ex Wife called my job posing as a mortgage broker to obtain private information

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:30 AM PDT

Short backstory but my ex has been trying to cause problems in my life by sending anonymous letter to my job. Today my HR rep approached me that she received several calls from my mortgage broker requesting a lot of my personal information to process my mortgage. It was a blocked number so she did not pass any information over until she spoke with me. Well I am not in the process of getting a mortgage. Ive read that police can obtain the origin of a blocked call. If it turns out that the call was from my ex, which I am most certain it was. What course of legal action can i pursue? Sending anon letters trashing me is one thing but posing as a financial institution is a crime from what I have read. Thank you!

My boss incorporated my name without my permission so she can pay me as a contractor rather than an employee.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:17 AM PDT

I work for a local grocery store in a smallish town in Oregon. At the beginning of the year I took over our social media accounts for an additional $300 a month.

My boss has consistently pushed for me to incorporate my name so she can pay me as a contractor rather than an employee, and I have said no each time.

Because of this, she hasn't been writing checks out to me, and instead has been paying me in cash under the table. I have repeatedly asked for her to put this payment on my usual paycheck so to avoid any tax issues, but she refuses to do so.

The other day, our accountant told me that my boss had incorporated my name. What do I do if I receive a check written out to this new account? Is this a reportable offense? If so, who do I report this to?

Owner just pretended to rob me at work, then fired me

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 10:05 PM PDT

I manage at a restaurant and close every night and leave around midnight. The owner is a foreigner and is a little unhinged. Tonight I was making sure everything was closed when someone comes in through the back door. They are wearing a mask and wielding a baseball bat. They tell me to give them the money in the drawer and I open it. The person then takes off the mask and it's my boss. He says that he was testing me to see if I would open the drawer in this situation. He then says I do not care about the business enough and has let me go. The "act" only lasted about 15 seconds but my heart is still beating out of my chest. What are my options? I don't feel comfortable giving out too much information over the Internet.

Window contractor lied about Lead Safe Certifications and now my home is contaminated, what do I do? (IA)

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 04:40 AM PDT

We hired a contractor who advertised as being a lead safe renovator to replace our windows and siding on our 1930's era home. We are doing these repairs because my 1yo was found to have elevated levels of lead in her blood and my wife is pregnant, so it is best to eliminate the risks. We knew for certain that original wood siding and windows are lead painted and let the company know this as well. Unfortunately, well into the project we learned that the construction crew who wears the contractor company's shirts, is a hired subcontractor who is not a lead safe renovator. They also aren't licensed and likely not insured. Our siding was installed last week and our windows were put in yesterday which has resulted in the inside and outside of our house to be contaminated with paint chips and dust. After taking off work yesterday to observe their construction, I have substantial proof of them not following the required means and methods for clean up and contamination. They are finishing work today, but we know our house is unsafe to return to, so what can we do?

Update 1: The State Department of Health Investigator walked through my property and stated that the subcontractor ignored nearly all of the state and federal lead safe renovation guidance and our house isn't livable until they have thoroughly clean inside and out. The general contractor has been made aware of the issue and is supposed to be here soon.

Update 2: The general contractor has been apologetic and says he has hired a professional cleaner to clean the inside of the house. The state inspector is to come inspect tomorrow afternoon. The general contractor ordered the subcontractor to begin removing my mulch and picking up debris and the subcontractor tried to say that the lead paint around my house and around my windows was there beforehand so it isn't his problem. I suggested to the general that they be removed from my property because I cannot trust their clean up responsibility/ability now.

(WI) Have split custody of children after a new agreement with exwife, requested a child support review from agency and they used an incorrect custody schedule and incorrect wage income. Agent admitted the error and refuses to reopen the review. What are my options?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:29 AM PDT

Speaks for itself...details are the review listed me as having the children for 75 days (it's 158 days) and she used my ex wife's old employer info, which was almost $14,000 less per year.

Upon receiving their decision, which was exactly at the six months the state has for a review to be completed, it was obvious the amount was incorrect, based on Wisconsin's percentage formula. Upon calling the agent, she opened the file, noticed her multiple errors and proceeded to tell me I can reapply for a review in three years, as the state required her to complete the review in six months and she doesn't have time to reopen it. We are now at 11 months, I have multiple admissions about the error, I'm paying almost double what I should be and the agent refuses to return calls, because "Her judgement is final, even with the acknowledgement of her errors".

Is there a next step on this within the agent that wouldn't involve lawyering up? Is there an internal system to have her review...reviewed?

MA - Neighbor wants to remove fence between our properties. Condo association may go along with it, I'm concerned it may open us up to all kinds of unintended liabilities.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:26 AM PDT

We live in a densely populated neighborhood of 2 and 3 family homes. Recently a new neighbor moved in next door. They seem like fine enough people, but lets say we are probably not going to be best buds. We have a bit of a conflict over a fence and where it sits on the property lines. The unit next door believes he owns it because the prior owner thinks that's the case but I'm not sure. This can be solved easily enough by hiring a surveyor, but that's not the real issue here.

The new neighbors have been speaking with the other occupants in our building trying to convince them that removing the fence without replacement is the way to go. I'm fairly certain the only reason the neighbors want to remove the fence is to gain about a foot of parking space in their driveway. I don't want to remove this fence as it's where I put snow in the winter and will make our jobs harder to clear our parking lot.

My question is this, is removing this fence a good idea? Would removing this fence open us up to additional liability? I'm concerned they may be some legal ramifications I am missing here. They have 2 little children who I am ok with coming over to play while our children out but I'm concerned that not having a fence there the children will feel free to just spill over in to our property whenever they want. Am I liable if they are injured on our property while unsupervised without a fence there? I have a feeling they will end up in our yard all the time as they (Adults and children) seem to have poor boundaries.

    Thanks!

[FL] Car towed while I was in the bathroom

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:27 AM PDT

I pulled into the parking lot for a carry out chicken restaurant. The lot had signs saying tow zone, customer parking only.

I ordered my food and was told the order will take 15 minutes.

I ask the cashier if it's okay for me to go across the street while I wait (I needed to use a restroom)

After 10 or 15 minutes, I come back and notice that my car is not in the parking lot. I ask the cashier if my car had been towed and she told me that the towing guy hadn't come in.

Cashier asks the manager and the manager said that the towing guy had come in and that my car had probably been towed. Cashier tells manager that I had ordered and was waiting for my food. Cashier and manager argue between each other about whose fault it was for the lack of communication (definitely the manager's fault in my opinion)

Manager calls towing company and the guy brings my car back. He has me pay for the tow. Payment method was him giving my credit card number over the phone to the tow company's office.

Tow guy did not have me sign any papers and he didn't offer or give me a receipt.

There were no signs on the premises that said my car would be towed if I left the premises after having ordered and paid for food. The restaurant employee even told me it was okay for me to cross the street.

It feels as if the guy with the tow truck basically stole my car and used the fact that he had my car hostage to get me to sketchily hand him my credit card details. Is this essentially what happened?

I haven't been towed before, but I would assume there's paperwork to sign and a receipt for fines.

EDIT: Advice I received said to let my credit card company know that the charge from the towing company is invalid. Apparently since the tow company didn't give me a receipt and didn't have me sign anything they cannot prove this was a valid charge.

Would this be a good way to go about this?

Getting a new apartment without alerting abusive co-tenant

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:04 AM PDT

I'm trying to get away from an abusive & manipulative co-tenant, who is holding the notice hostage and cons me out of money. 95% of everything is his & he spends freely, while claiming to need help. When things don't go his way, he becomes verbally abusive. If I threaten to leave, he blows up & plays the victim. I fear how he might react if he finds out I plan to leave. He is very emotionally abusive & controlling.

When I didn't sign the lease renewal last year, he assaulted me. We are on a month to month now, and the landlord told me we both have to be in the office and sign off for me to leave. He replied "it's not my problem; I don't care what they say" when I tried to leave this way. The landlord is not aware of the abuse, as I didn't want to get either of us to get evicted, and I had no money or place to go.

I've since spoken to two lawyers who told me the landlord is wrong, and I can give my written notice and leave that same day, since we are not on a fixed term lease anymore.

My concern is, if a new landlord calls for a reference, and the current one asks if we are leaving. They tend to contact him, and he will know right away. But to prevent that I would have to alert them of plans to move, and bring up the abuse, and that could go very wrong. It is a property management. I don't want the co-totenant being dragged into anything. I was also told not to alert the (any) landlord of your plans to leave before locking a place down.

And what of the new landlord? Should I tell them I'm giving a notice "after" a new place is locked down? And that I have to get away from the current roommate? Should I explain the situation? Would that set off red flags?

I don't even care about paying the extra month rent & utilities as I go. I took out a small loan to pull it off. I just want to leave.

[OH] Utility provider has equipment on my property and won't pick it up

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:19 AM PDT

I purchased my house 4 years ago and when I moved in there was already a liquid propane tank hooked up to the house from Company A. I used their service without a contract and just paid for the propane when they would deliver it. At the beginning of this year I switched to Company B because of a lower price that is locked in with a payment plan.

Company B came out and set up the new tank in the spring but couldn't put the tank in the location I wanted it because the ground was to soft to drive on. I called Company A and told them that their tank was ready to be picked up and they said the same thing that the ground was too soft to come out. They also informed me that their was a $75 fee to pick up their tank.

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, Company B came out and moved the tanks around. They sat the Company A tank next to my paved driveway that way Company A couldn't say the ground was to soft still. I immediately called Company A and told them to come get their tank and they said they were busy but would be out as soon as possible. I wait 2 weeks and the tank is still there so I call again on Monday and they say they will pick it up by Friday at the latest. Its now Tuesday and the tank is still there.

Is there any legal action I can take? Such as telling Company A that I will start to charge reasonable storage fee if they don't remove their property, or tell them I will move the tank after x amount of days because they abandoned it. I don't really want the money but I don't want to pay them to pick up their tank either. I just want the tank out of my yard. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Possible action against landlords - fire in our apartment building, fire alarms didn’t sound

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:29 AM PDT

Hi all, a few nights ago, our apartment building had a big fire. It took 160 firefighters, and 11 people were injured. We are in New York City, in the Bronx.

Our building was not equipped with sprinklers, and far worse, the fire alarms didn't go off. It is odd, as they'll sometimes go off when we cook, but it seems we were not the only ones - we didn't hear any of them as we climbed down the fire escape from the 6th floor, and our next door neighbour was interviewed on a news report explicitly saying the fire alarms didn't go off, and that she was awoken by choking on smoke. We were alerted to the fire by my roommate seeing our apartment living room filled with smoke.

We have of course been displaced. We were allowed back in the day after to collect our stuff (luckily our apartment is fine due to the fire being the other side of the building, however our hall is black with smoke damage), and have been told to await further notice on when we can be back in permanently.

Our landlords have not been good, before and after the fire. Already we as a building had started to work with a non-profit to take legal action against illegal MCI (major capital improvement) rent increases. They were trying to charge the building for replacing an elevator (which needed replacing) and in the pay had field MCIs for re-wiring apartments they were doing up as "luxury" and trying to buy out existing residents. We are a rent controlled apartment in an area of the Bronx where a lot of people earn very little money, and often have Spanish as a first language.

Now the fire has happened, there's been no contact from them. The only info we have received has been from one of us either happening to be at the apartment at the right time (we discovered there were meetings being held which we didn't know about regarding the progress of the repairs), or phoning the real estate company that has a single person manning the phones with very little information. I was told yesterday that I could phone back anytime because she liked my accent... that's great, but they should be giving us information, not making us search for it. If there's a meeting, we should know about it, not having the receptionist tell me there's some sort of city announcement happening the next day. Not everyone in that building has the ability or knowledge to phone and ask the right questions.

In all likelihood, we will seek legal recourse due to the fire alarms. Luckily, I am an outlier in that I make somewhere around $100k/year, so can afford to hit back. I am very lucky to have a roommate with a family we can stay with in a nice house, but not everyone has that.

It is worth noting, that there is a clause in our lease which states we give up to the right of a trial by jury.

I'm wanting to know what our right and options are, and what language I can use with the real estate company before even taking legal action to at least scare them into putting the appropriate resources into supporting their residents.

Do they have to be informing us (as opposed to us having to phone them)?

What potential options do we have to sue them due to fire alarms?

Is there any other info that could be useful? We are looking to take legal action, but for now just need enough info that I can confidently speak to them in order to for them to do more to support us as a building, like opening a reliable line of communication about (among many other things) the state of repairs and the estimated time that we can move back in. This line of communication should not fall on the residents to initiate.

Thanks you for any advice you can give.

I was defrauded by someone posing as my mortgage closer

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:31 AM PDT

Hi r/legaladvice I was the victim of fraud just yesterday. A little bit of background, I am closing on a mortgage in Illinois tomorrow, and it's been a lengthy process, certainly a lot of moving parts to keep track of as a first time homebuyer. Yesterday morning, I received my closing disclosures from the title company. I got excited and wired them the closing costs per their request. Soon after I was told by a coworker to confirm the wiring details, so I called the title company, who confirmed that it was NOT them that I sent the money to. I went to the bank and they issued a recall request for the wire, and then I filed a police report.

Later in the day I received from my attorney the REAL disclosures and they were the exact same numbers as the fake disclosures. I called around and learned from the title company that they sent the disclosures to the lender 2 days prior and that, and it is the exact document that was sent to me the morning of the fraud.

So my question is can I settle this with the title company? Or will the lender be responsible? Any help is appreciated

UPDATE: Landlord says they wish to renew lease for another year - then abruptly changes their mind and want to terminate in 8 days, saying laws about proper notice don't apply to them. [Virginia]

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 04:17 PM PDT

Summary of Original Post: The lease of the place I had been living for the past four years was coming up for renewal on or before July 31. On Monday, July 22, I went into the leasing office asking where the renewal lease that they had been promising me for the past six weeks was. That's when they chose to tell me that they weren't going to allow me to renew, and I needed to be out as of noon on July 31.

On with the update. I went to the university's law clinic and explained the issue, showing them a copy of my lease. The lawyer basically said I had no case because the lease itself gives the termination date. I said I thought that they had to give 30 or 60 days written notice prior to the end of the lease that they did not intend to renew. The lawyer says they did give notice - it's the lease. I asked the lawyer to explain, and, lo, she spoke thus:

On the first page it lists the ending date of the lease term (7/31/2019). Many leases will include a provision like <<tenant has to give 60 days notice if they are not going to renew or it will automatically renew at the end of the lease term>>. In that case, the default is renewal.

In your lease, there is no provision about renewal. The default in Virginia landlord tenant law is not automatic renewal it is "fixed tenancy" meaning the lease ends automatically at the end of the term. This is not to say that it could not be renewed, just that it did not automatically renew, and your landlord was not required to give you notice of the ending because that was the agreement all along.

So it turns out that leases in this state only automatically renew 1) if there is no written lease (in which case State law governs); or 2) if there is a written lease and that lease mentions renewal. Since my written lease does not mention renewal at all, there is no automatic renewal. (One might have thought that this important detail would have been required to be mentioned, but no.)

Furthermore, I gather it's totally legal that they strung me along saying they would renew, and then changed up and sprung the non-renewal on me last week at almost the last minute. Guess I'm lucky they didn't just not tell me at all and show up Wednesday at noon with a Cleaning Crew to toss everything I own in the garbage and then charge me a fee for it.

    So, there it is.

TL;DR: I'm screwed. Removing all my stuff today and tomorrow. Looks like I'm homeless as of noon Wednesday. FML. (Actually, I've got the offer of a couch at a friend's place for a week, maybe two. So, not on the street (yet), but still homeless.)

Regardless of how it is turning out, thank you to everyone who offered information, insights, and suggestions.

(CA) College is asking for parent income tax evidence after thet realized she is eligible to file taxes. Is this true or even possible?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:34 AM PDT

My Mother [34] and I [18] are both Undocumented Immigrants [2007]. I graduated last june and I'm about to go into a good CSU far from home (+300 miles).

Very recently I [18] was asked to provide my mother's 2017 Income Tax return or Income Tax Transcript or a statement why she could not file signed by a tax professional. In order for my College to release the grant provided by the DREAM act I applied and granted by the state.

The problem is that they need it by the 6th of August, only a week away. My mother has never filed taxes and only started working 4 years ago. She works cleaning houses, all income is cash, not documented and she makes $14,000-$16,000, we're unsure but on documents it says $16,000.

I'm currently at a complete blank because the grant ($5k-$6k) would have paid for tuition and the first payment for the dorm while I settled, looked for work and applied for a $4k DREAM loan.

I do apologize if I'm rambling a bit but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Landlord canceled lease, forcing husband 9month old and myself out because we asked for repairs and is now holding our deposit, what are my first steps to help get it back?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:10 AM PDT

I was pregnant and my husband and I needed to find out own place, we found a back house, within our price range where we could have our dogs. I really liked the place when we saw it so we apply and get approved. When we go to sign the lease at the place they had the windows open stating they had just cleaned the carpets so they were airing it out, signed documents, hands us the keys and we part ways. We close the windows and prepare to leave, that's when we smell something horrible, that just got worse with the heat. I cleaned the carpets myself, the water was black, couldn't completely get the smell out of our soon to be daughters room, it was unbearable we hand to keep the door closed during the day. They reluctantly replace the carpet in our daughters room only. The previous tenants they had, either did drugs or a combination of doing and making them which we found out after we moved in. They did not tell us, a neighbor actually told my husband and he later confirmed whats told to him with the landlords sister.

Flash forward to a year later, when we get get kicked out. For almost 2 months we were arguing about our water pressure, it would take us an hour and a half to prepare a bath for our daughter because the water would basically drip out of the faucet. ((The front house was rented to some of the landlords family And they got a washer/dryer. I guess how the house was built made the water run off one line for front and back. We didn't have a separate meter for electricity. )) The water being the main issue we contact her saying once the washer and dry was put in we have no water pressure in the back house. She insists the front house only uses them during scheduled times. The water issues gets worse, we just dealt with it because we had no other options.

The straw that broke the camels back.

My daughter has a heart condition, so we don't want her getting worked up in the heat, and our house had one small AC in our bedroom. So I buy a large window AC for our place. I ask the landlord if she would buy it if I ordered it so if she did I'd leave it there if not I would take it with whenever we did happen to move. She said the one I ordered was to expensive and would take a lot of electricity from the front house, possibly causing harm. So she wanted to revise my lease, taking back her ac and allowing me to have mine. I though I would get the revised lease in the mail instead my husband gets served an eviction notice a couple days after we pay rent.

The day we move out they shut off our water completely, couldn't clean up as much as I wanted but we didn't leave anything but dust behind.

Moved out now landlord is trying to keep 500 in cleaning fees such as painting, professional cleaners, and carpet cleaning. Also my 400 pet deposit. I'm not sure if I can file a case for a wrongful eviction along with a small claim case to get my deposit back. She is trying to send me the 700 or so that is "left over" but if I accept it then I agree?! I don't know where to start. I can't afford an attorney. *****Also she charged us 2 days of rent because our rent is usually due on the 15th and were evcited on the 17th charging us 80 dollars for having to stay there.

We had a lot more issues but these are the main ones.

Edit*** I'm in California, and the paper I received was from an eviction company, it said I had 30 days to vacate.

[TX] I’m getting my grandparents’ wills ready for them to sign and it just occurred to me that my grandma can’t read or write - how can she sign her will?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:45 AM PDT

I used one of those free online services to make a simple, straightforward will as per their wishes for their property. My grandpa has been signing on behalf of my grandma forever (he doesn't have any legal power of attorney though). I asked him and he nonchalantly said that he'll sign the will for her. Is this legal to do? I've seen her ID and it's just a few ilegible characters. I read online that it should be put on the signature page that she can't read or write and that her will has been read to her and that her markings will serve as her signature. If this is true, can I physically write that in the will, or do I type up the whole thing and add that in at the end.

I was trying to get them to go to a local estate attorney to make their wills but they have such an antiquated mindset that they don't trust lawyers, cops, etc.

    Anyway, thanks for reading!

Was told a lab test was going to cost $70, got a bill for over $200. The hospital said there's nothing they can do. Best way to proceed?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:25 AM PDT

I started a new job and have no insurance, and I got a bad uti that wasn't going away so I went to my primary care. They asked if I wanted to send a urine sample off to the hospital, and offered to call the lab to get the cost. I told them I wanted to send it as long as it was under about $100. They called me back that afternoon, it was $70 and some cents. So I said yes.

Fast forward to Friday, I get a bill from the hospital for over $200. I fully expected to pay a bit more than quoted, but almost triple?? So I called the hospital's billing department to see what was going on. She told me there was nothing they could do except they could send me an itemized bill (they didn't even send me a bill, just a "hey you can pay this random bill in 3 payments of $70 a month").

I realized my app to record conversations was turned on (we are a one party state!), so I do have the conversations recorded of the medical assistant telling me the cost. I called my primary care office and they said they would help me, but the assistant could not recall who she talked to so there was nothing else they could do.

What do I do? I know $200 isn't huge compared to some medical bills in the good ol USA but still wayyy more than I agreed to, especially with student loans. The bill is due in a few weeks, not sure if I should hold off on paying anything for the time being? I also don't want it sent to collections.

Any guidance would be super appreciated!!

[IL] The mother of my boyfriends child won’t allow me to see the child anymore

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:28 AM PDT

I'm wondering what we should do. I've been dating my boyfriend for about 7 months and see his child occasionally and take him out to eat, or do fun things like the zoo. Recently, my boyfriend asked her for a different custody schedule and wanted to go to a mediator for 50/50 (one week here, one week there). Now she is threatening my boyfriend saying she will not allow him to see me, and if my boyfriend does bring him around me, she won't allow my boyfriend to see him.

They weren't married at the time, but he is on the birth certificate.is she allowed to do this?

Student insurance that has been charging my parents for the past 3 years I havent been a student.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:57 AM PDT

Just wondering for any advice about how to go around this.

Today I found out that my parents have been charged for my Students possession insurance for the past 4 years, despite the fact I have not lived at the insured address, nor been a student for the past 3 years.

This is due to the fact that the insurance "auto-renews". I do not live at the address as I have not been able to have any paper documents, and the emails went straight into my junk for some reason.

Is there any precedent for a refund? I havent signed any credit agreements for the past 3 years (I think) and my parents for one reason or another havent noticed it on their bank account.

    16 and "in debt"

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:19 AM PDT

I'm 16 years old and am in debt to a martial arts club by around $479 AUD, the 12 week cancellation process hasn't finished yet although they're wanting the money now and have tried to get a debt collection agency to contact me early. Im a student and work part time so checking emails isn't really a priority let alone something I do regularly and because of that I missed all their emails due to them going to junk automatically, they had only called my number once before I had lost my phone and still haven't bought a new one, i assumed they were contacting my mother instead but as it turns out they haven't. They didn't even send a letter mail personally or send one through their collection agency which by the looks of it they were taking advantage of the missing of emails and calls to me, the one who isn't even responsible for the payment, my father is, and he's has been in prison for the past 2 and a half months explaining why the membership hasn't been paid and i'd assume if he cant be contacted then the person next in line, whos my mother would be. Besides they have my home phone so they wouldn't even have to call my number personally. Anyway since my father who was the one to sign the contract is in jail they want my mother to pay, who didn't sign the contract at all and only signed an injury liability waiver. Legally she isn't obligated to nor is any other legal guardian so they must wait from what i know.

Although they think that since the contract was signed by me mainly and with my fathers permission that anyone who is my legal guardian is obligated to pay for my debt. Which from what i've looked into is not true in other countries. This begs the question, does a legal guardian be it mother or sister have to pay your debt if the person who signed the contract is in prison or in a more broader term strictly unavailable? I feel bad for my dad having to get out to having a debt first on top of a 2,0000 tax that he shouldnt have been taxed for since he earns below 36,000 which is a question that could be answered on this thread optionally. We already earn so little and now were getting slapped right and left with debts which has taught me not to fuck with memberships.

    Anyway

TLDR; IS A GUARDIAN LIABLE FOR A MINORS DEBT IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

CAN YOU STILL BE TAXED WHEN YOUR PAID LESS THAN 36,000 IF YOU OWN A BUSINESS THAT EARNS LESS THAT
    36,000 AS WELL

Neighbor’s Dead Tree I Going to Fall into My House

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:24 AM PDT

The man who lives beside me has an extremely large pine in his backyard that is clearly dead and is leaning at a severe angle.

My neighbor poorly maintains his property and had chosen to tether the tree to the ground with a small line rather than have it professionally removed

Now, I assume that tether wasn't going to stop the tree anyways, but said tether has since snapped and the tree continues to bend unimpeded — right over my property.

Perhaps paranoia has taken over, but from my perspective if this tree falls it's likely going to come right through my bedroom ceiling. I don't want to have my property damaged, much less be killed by foliage.

Is there any precedent to have him remove the dangerous tree? I don't so much care about potential property damage, I have insurance, but I am extremely wary of impending death and would like to avoid such.

I live in Ohio and am a renter, if that helps

Edit to say that he will not remove the tree on his own. We have spoken about it in passing and he does not see it as an issue (as he is content to allow his entire house to rot and does not care for the value of other's property or personal safety either). I would pay to have it taken down myself, but I'm a student and would not be able to afford it.

Utility bills through the roof and rent is due Saturday with it included. Can I refuse to pay?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 11:12 AM PDT

My water/sewage is being charged as 20,000 gallons of water used from June 1 to July 1. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 1 other person, so this is near impossible to do. The leasing office is sending someone from maintenance to check the plumbing and see if there is a leak, but the rent is due August 3. Do I have any grounds to refuse to pay the utilities portion until it is sorted out?

Edit: I live in Richmond, VA USA
