    Goldman raises year-end S&P 500 forecast, sees another double-digit gain in 2020

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:02 AM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/30/goldman-sachs-ups-sp-500-forecast-but-cuts-earnings-outlook.html

Goldman Sachs raised its 2019 year-end price target for the U.S. benchmark S&P 500 index by 3% to 3,100 on Tuesday, but lowered its earnings estimates, citing weakness in economic activity and margin outlook.

Despite the earnings squeeze, they analysts are still positive on a further rise for stock markets. The new price target for the S&P 500 implies a 24% full-year gain for 2019. It also set a 2020 year-end price target of 3,400, a 10% rise from the 2019 target.

Nobel Prize winner Robert Shiller makes the case for a rate hike: The economy is running ‘hot’

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:12 PM PDT

"We still have a very low unemployment rate. The economy is hot," the Yale University professor told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Monday. "One could easily make a case for staying the course and doing another interest rate increase at this meeting to cool this economy."

Healthcare REITs and immunity to political climate

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 01:06 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I have been considering adding REITs to my portfolio to become more diversified. Another noticeably absent industry in my portfolio has been healthcare, because I have been concerned about all the political discussion regarding more regulation for the pharmaceutical industry as well as more radical proposals like Medicare for All.

I was thinking that healthcare REITs might be a way to technically expose myself to both sectors, but I was wondering how immune they would be to the political pressures that currently exist? Are there any REITs that may actually benefit from something like Medicare for All being implemented? What healthcare REITs have yall been looking at with the current climate?

Gamestop is currently sitting on 1.6 billion in cash. They have 321 million dollars worth of property and an additional 3 billion in other assets exluding intangible. Their market cap is a measly 400 million...

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 12:36 PM PDT

There current negative EPS stems from them purchasing their own shares back at above-market value. This is a deep value stock for anyone wanting to hold stocks for the long term. I do not think they will go out of business as they do more than just sell games. A mother purchasing a game for her son will not do it online, but instead goes to game stop to chat with the clerks about what is hot right now. Additionally, GameStop's business of purchasing used games for dirt cheap than proceeding to flip them for a 500% profit is brilliant. Using security analysis, I calculated their shares to have an intrinsic value of around 12-15 dollars.

EDIT: You guys are refusing to look at the fact that all investing has some risk. This is a a case how ever were reward is greater than potential risk.

P&G stock rose after reporting strong sales this morning, even after taking an $8 billion write-down on Gillette. How would losing Gillette affect P&G?

How does that write-down rank in all-time marketing screw-ups?

Anyone know if Hargreaves Lansdown is a good place to go for a beginner?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:01 AM PDT

I have £500 to invest and I'm curious if I could get higher than a 2.50% (my current bank interest rate) return by using their 'adventurous' investing option or any other of their investment options.

Feds might drop 1/4 or 1/2 point tomorrow at 2pm. What should I do?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 03:59 PM PDT

I live in Oregon. We have a home and a HELOC. We want to roll HELOC into our mortgage and pull out money to reinvest into a rental property. 10 year bond yield is at 2.06%. My 30 year fixed is 4.125. My HELOC is at 5%. Do I lock in now or wait until 2pm tomorrow? Mortgage lender said I could lock now at 4.5 with no points or at 4% with 1.25 points

Why are you scared of a recession?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:48 AM PDT

Unless you are like 60 and every asset you have is in stock market, why else would you be scared of a recession? If you're young and continuously invest every month, wouldn't you actually welcome it (so you could buy stocks cheap over the months / years to come)? I just don't get it.

Have a multicurrency account and want to convert without using poor bank rate

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:06 PM PDT

So I have a multicurrency account with £, $ and € (each have their own unqiue account number within the multicurrency account). I want to convert a fair chunk of £ to $, but the rate the bank gives is not great. I was wondering what my options are? I was thinking either:

    1. Use transferwise. Usually I've used transferwise when moving money from one country to another, but this would just be moving within the same country and just to a different account. I guess that should be possible but will have to check with them.
    2. Open an account with interactive brokers and have it set up for multiple currencies. Deposit £, then use their forex markets to convert to $, then withdraw the $. Will have to see if this is possible and if they allow withdrawing to a different account that was deposited to.
    3. Using Norbert's Gambit. This is where you buy a stock in the currency you want to sell, and immediately sell the stock in the currency you want to buy. If it's a stock with a ton of liquidity you only lose on stock market fees. I'll have to see if this is possible with Interactive Brokers and I can use this for converting £ to $ https://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/norberts-smart-way-to-convert-dollars-across-the-border/article20279926/

Which of these options do you think is both possible and would provide the best value? Or are there any other options I should be considering?

Question on ECB rate cut article

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 01:43 PM PDT

Most respondents in the survey said the ECB is likely to introduce measures such as exemptions to soften the impact of negative rates on banks. Lenders have complained that the costs of the charge on their overnight reserves can't easily be passed on their depositors, squeezing profitability. Some officials are concerned that will eventually prompt banks to pare back lending.

Here's the article. "The ECB is likely to introduce measures such as exemptions." I think this means that the ECB will lower the reserve requirement (more of the bank's liquidity can be deployed) which will result in more lending. Is this right? What does "costs of the charge on their overnight reserves" mean?

How long do I need to hold AT&T (T) to get the dividend?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:13 PM PDT

I bought some additional shares late last week and some more on Monday. I am only being paid a dividend on the 3 shares I've owned for about a month now. What's the cut off? I've read 2 business days, but if that was the case, I should be paid the dividend tomorrow on all my shares instead of just 3. Any ideas what's up?

Quant models vs manual stock picking?

Many factors like volatility, momentum and even composite value seem to fair well during backtest. Curious if anyone here implemented such Quant strategy instead of manually picking and selecting companies.
