What are your experiences with USAA towing/roadside assistance? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:58 PM PDT I'm currently debating of adding towing on my auto policy, because I can't seem to get a 100% accurate response from the customer reps at USAA. I'm wondering if they will tow to my home in case of a break down since I like to work on my vehicles, but all three customer reps gave me a different answer. One said definitely yes, another said definitely no, and the last one said only part of the way. Has anyone here used their towing service before? [link] [comments] |

Initial Step(s) [Pennsylvania] Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:25 AM PDT Hi all! I have a general question concerning the first steps of obtaining medical coverage that I'd like to throw out there. I am a 29-year-old male in the process of pursuing an entirely new career field, currently unemployed and seeking basic medical coverage. I am in good health, single, no children, and recently moved from one zip code to another in the state of Pennsylvania. I have a significant amount of money in a savings account but no current income. I do expect to be employed within 6 months, but likely not until the end of 2019. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what my first step(s) should be in pursuing coverage. Medicaid vs. Marketplace, for starters. If I can provide any additional information, please let me know. I've done some Google-searching, but the answers thus far have been inconclusive. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. It means a lot :) [link] [comments] |
Hit while parallel parking who’s at fault? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 08:47 AM PDT So one day i was reversing 2 spots behind so I could parallel park due to the fact it was closer to me. A woman was at the stop sign and seen me reversing but 'didn't know what I was doing' she continued to proceed and then we collided . My driver side was badly damaged and the back side came off while her passenger side was damaged with several paint scratches. I couldn't see her at the stop sign while I was reversing because there was trees and then I believe she was in my blind spot so I couldn't see her anyways before we got hit . The insurance company said she might be at fault due to the fact she saw me reversing but I was just wondering who was at because of my anxiety [link] [comments] |
Will auto insurance pay for new furniture after an accident? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:02 PM PDT I was involved in a car accident (I wasn't at fault) and I am currently receiving physical therapy for my injuries. My physical therapist has determined that the chair where I sit to work and watch TV at is not supportive enough to heal. She wants me to get a new chair. Will the insurance company reimburse me for the new chair I will have to buy? The current chair is fine and has plenty of life left; it's just not suitable (it's too soft) for me during recovery. To explain further: I will have to create space in our living room for the new chair. It will most likely not fit our decor and it will just be something I use until I'm discharged from PT. Nothing we currently have is firm enough for recovery. The new chair will cost less than $150. [link] [comments] |
Insurance for personal property when "homeless" Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:56 PM PDT Hi all, For the next year of my life, I will not have a permanent home/apartment. Instead, I will be living in hotels, airBnBs, and various family members homes. I plan to travel with some expensive items like personal electronics as I go from place to place. This got me thinking that I would hate to have my stuff stolen, and realize there is a higher chance of this since I will be hopping from place to place. Does anyone know if there is insurance that exists to cover me in this scenario? Obviously, renters insurance doesn't apply because I am not renting. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:27 PM PDT Just started using root insurance the other day, I'm currently doing the 30 day test drive. I've been trying to check what my driving score is but I can't seem to find it. Anyone wanna help me out here? [link] [comments] |
What to claim after sump failure Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:29 PM PDT Recently, I had a sump pump failure that resulted in about 1/4" of water in my half finished basement. Coverage is up to $17,850 and is covered. I've already had a water mitigation company come out and take care of the dry out and cleanup - and the adjuster has taken a pass at the cost to replace carpet, trim, etc. and provided an initial check. The basement was primarily used as a toy / play area for my kids. While there was not much water (didn't even come above the carpet until you walked on it) the room was full of toys strewn about that cake in contact with water. My question is, for the personal contents, what should I claim? I know soft, porous things like stuffed animals and blankets are considered a total loss - but what about plastic toys? Do I claim them as total loss? Do I clean them and claim fees associated? Although storm water, I'm not terribly comfortable letting my kids play with toys that sat on wet carpet for 24h+ but also don't want to make a claim on something and run some sort of risk of fraud (is that even fraud? I'm not certain) Also, I have some big ticket items - like a treadmill - that still work and the water didn't seem to reach any mechanical components. Do I claim that as well? Thanks! Edit: FWIW, insurance is State Farm [link] [comments] |
Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card and Auto Rental CDW confusion Posted: 16 Jun 2019 01:12 PM PDT Hi! The thing is I live in USA as a foreigner. I'm not resident or citizen and therefore I don't have personal car insurance. Does this means Amazon's card kicks in as my primary insurance? [link] [comments] |
Health insurance help for student attending out of state school? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 04:43 PM PDT (cross post with r/personalfinance) In need of help and advice for what to do as an out of state student for health insurance! I (24yo) am an Arizona resident currently on Medicaid insurance through the state. This fall I will be attending graduate school for a healthcare proffession out of state in Northern California. It is manditory that I have health insurance for the program I'm in. I have no clue what to do for insurance while I'm out of state. My current Medicaid doesn't cover costs of healthcare outside of Arizona (found this out when I had a UTI while visiting California and had to pay about $600 out of pocket for the appointment, labs, and medication for it.) so even if it counts as health insurance for the program, any medical costs I will have to pay out of pocket. Insurance is offered through the school at $5000 per year for the basic plan (...private school...) so this seems extremely steep to me and I don't want (or know if I am able to) take out an extra $15000 in student loans just for health insurance. Parents health insurance is not an option, my father is permanently disabled and so he's on medicare, and my mom is on the federal 'Obamacare' insurance. Any advice to undersand what my options are or where to find information on how to get health insurance as a student is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Is there any way out of my current coverage without a life event?? To, US Posted: 16 Jun 2019 03:48 PM PDT This is a copied submission I submitted somewhere else, and was told to submit here. I currently switched companies, from a large global institution to a much smaller, community institution. The insurance they provide is a high deductible plan, and I went ahead and signed up my family for that, and started to funnel money into an Health savings account (tax deferred) for the costs we would accrue. When starting to make appointments, the cost to see doctors and my daughters specialists are extremely high! About 50% more with insurance than if I paid cash. (The insurance company sets the prices rather than if I negotiate with the doctor myself) I knew it would be more expensive to reach my deductible, but did not realize the insurance company set the prices at such an outrageous amount. My deductible is so high that I will likely never reach it in the year. (Until my daughter needs her next open heart surgery, the last one cost 2.8 million where I only paid 4000) I am currently paying about 800 a month for the plan, and it seems to make more sense for us to drop the plan, and utilize that 800 a month towards cash payment for medical expenses, and pick the plan back up the year we anticipate needing it. My question is: is there anyway at all I can drop the insurance without a "life event". I live in US, and recently just found out we no longer penalize for those who do not carry insurance. 100% NOT at fault -- Diminished Value, what to do?? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:46 PM PDT TL;DR -- not at fault, car no has no trade in value according to dealer, does have value according to CarFax, I'm short on time and $$, what should I do??? Sue? Or take the highest offer I can get and go with it? Hi everyone, This has all happened in California. Back in February, had someone back out of a parking spot into the lane of traffic opposite to mine, across the double yellow midline, into my lane, and into my door/mirror. I had a witness, and was found 100% not at fault. My insurance was great -- they did subrogation and even got me my deductible back. Repairs were >$3k (mostly due to electronics I think). My car is a Subaru, and I had the repair done in a Subaru Certified Collision Center, and my car looks as good as new. Here's the thing -- I have just 9k miles on this 36k mile lease, and the lease ends early August. I was in Subaru for a service last week, and was told that even though the repairs were done, my CarFax report says damage and therefore I have 0 trade in value. My purchase price if I want to keep the car is around $19.5k. The dealership claimed my car was now worth about $18.5k. I'm a 27 year old medical student -- so I'm short on both time and money. To top things off, I'm currently studying for my first board exam -- arguably the most important for my future career, because this is the score residencies look at. I thought I was done with the aftermath of this stupid thing, and now here it is again. I called my own insurance - Ameriprise - and they said they can't help me file a claim against the other party's insurance. I then paid the $40 and got my own copy of my CarFax report....... the CarFax history based retail value for my car $23.5k, the private purchase value $22.5k. I looked online, and Shift.com offers me $21.5k for the car, while Kelley Blue Book only $17.9k. What should I do? I think my options right now are:
Are there any other solutions that I'm not thinking of? I'd love to hear any suggestions. I'm so exhausted of this, it's caused me so much stress and anxiety, during final exams the first time around and now during my really important exam prep. I was hoping to use any equity from this car as a down payment on another lease, this time one I plan to purchase at the end (I'll be a 1st year resident and finally have some kind of income at that point) THANK YOU to anyone and everyone who reads and responds!!!! Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:48 AM PDT My gf accidentally bumped someone's rear bumper and chipped a grape sized amount of paint off their bumper. What's going to happen when the claims are made? Will she have to pay out of pocket or is it all covered by liability? Will her premiums go up? What exactly happens now? [link] [comments] |
[NY] Allstate trying to cancel my coverage after being involved in a hit and run. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 10:17 AM PDT I have two vehicles, one is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the other is a brand new Nissan that I just leased starting last month. I opened up insurance with Allstate on 5/19/19, contacted my insurance broker and asked them what documents/inspections they need. My broker stated that I needed a Carco photo inspection on my Jeep 2018. I asked her if they needed anything for my 2019 Nissan, she stated that since it is a brand new vehicle (Was leased 05/19/19), that all I needed was a photo of the window sticker and lease agreement. I provided all of that information the same day that it was asked. On 5/24/19, the Nissan was involved in a hit and run on a street with NYC CCTV cameras capturing the accident, NYPD was contacted and is investigating the accident to find the other driver. I called All State the same day the accident occurred to file a claim. Here is where the issue starts: Starting on 6/10 I was contacted by a different agent from my broker's office stating that they needed a Carco photo inspection on the Nissan. I stated to this new agent that the vehicle was involved in an accident and asked for their advice on what to do, she would intentionally ignore my question and repeat that it needs to be inspected by 07/03/19 or collision coverage would be suspended. On 6/14/19 (Friday), I received an email from this new broker stating that my collision coverage is suspended effective 06/14/19, since I did not do a Carco inspection on the Nissan. Does this mean that Allstate will not cover the accident that occurred 05/19? I tried to contact their office but since it is a weekend, they are closed. Tldr; New leased vehicle did not require an inspection per agent's instructions, when it was involved in an accident a week later, agent said the vehicle required and inspection then suspend id coverage shortly thereafter. Does this mean that Allstate will not cover the accident that occurred with the vehicle on 05/24/19? [link] [comments] |
Please help! Is my UK car insurance void? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 08:56 AM PDT I'm going through a shitty breakup and my ex is taking the car because well she paid for it so whatever that's fine. However, I have it until the end of the month and it's registered in my name. I just found out she went online and changed the registered keeper to herself two weeks ago and didn't bother to tell me. The office of my insurer is closed today and I will call them tomorrow to be sure but should I assume my car insurance is now null and void? [link] [comments] |
What is the best health plan for me? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 08:21 AM PDT I recently started my first job out of college and the company provides us with a few healthcare options. All through United Healthcare the 3 options are: 1) UHC High deductible plan 2) UHC Choice plus medical plan 3) UHC Choice medical plan My reason for asking this to you all is because I have no idea what the best option is for me to choose to best benefit from tax purposes and overall coverage. I'm a young and relatively healthy guy so I figure I don't need the higher coverage but choosing any of the above options for just myself has no costs associated to me. If I had a spouse, kids, etc then there would be a monthly cost for the premium. The only other catch here is that if we choose the high deductible plan, the company offers to give us $100 a month into an HSA account. I'm still unsure about how this all works so any information regarding HSA in my situation is greatly appreciated. Edit: The above plans deductibles and copay are as follows: 1) high deductible: $5,000 individual / $10,000 family 2) plus: $1,500 individual / $4,500 family and $30 copay 3) choice: $2,000 individual / $6,000 family and $35 copay The per pay period of each plan is $0 but with a spouse is: 1) $155.10 2) $213.28 3) $205.30 The only HSA eligible plan is #1 [link] [comments] |

Long term disability insurance for Self Employeed. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 03:40 AM PDT I am a self employeed blue collar worker, who is just about to start shopping for long term disability insurance. The main thing that I was wondering was if policies are available that will cover me until retirement age if something drastic happens. I am seeing a lot of two, three, and five year plans that will pay that long, and then leave you out in the cold if you are not able to return to work. I am planning to speak to an insurance agent soon, but I want to walk info that meeting with as much information as possible. I was wondering if plans that will pay until retirement age exist for blue collar workers, or am I after something that does not exist? [link] [comments] |
N.C. pricing variability on auto insurance Posted: 16 Jun 2019 05:30 AM PDT Is there not much flexibility in rates or is it just mee I have a 20yo saturn. No accident. Excellent credit. Basic coverage. And I'll be damned if it's near $500 a year. Is Geico nailing me? Or is it worth the price? [link] [comments] |
Is this a standard amount of car insurance coverage? Looking to get a new quote Posted: 16 Jun 2019 05:01 AM PDT I've been using my current car insurance provider for nearly 20 years (since I became a driver). I usually just renew whatever I've bought in the past, and not given much thought to what my coverage is. Here's what we have now and what we're paying for it. (I'll be honest, I don't remember what half of these things mean. Just copying from the statement.) Our coverage is up in October and I want to shop around. I just plugged what I think is the same coverage into Geico and it was a few hundred dollars cheaper, but I want to make sure it's the right amount of coverage. Liability - $100K each accident Uninsured/underinsured motorist - $35,000 each accident Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Medical expense limit - $250k/$250 deductible. PIP - Non medical benefits - Included at no extra cost. Extended medical benefits - $10K Collision - $500 deductible Comprehension (they called it "other than collision") $500 deductible Roadside assistance - $75/day included in the coverage at no cost Transportation expenses (rental car?) - $20/day included in the coverage at no cost. We have this on two cars and pay just under $2K for the year. We use the same insurer for our home and we get a discount for that, as well as insuring 2 cars. I plugged what I THINK is the coverage into Geico and got $646 for 6 months, so assuming it'd be the same amount the next 6 months, that's like $700 annual savings. [link] [comments] |
