Huawei says US ban will cost it $30 billion in lost sales over two years

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:55 AM PDT

    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/17/tech/huawei-ren-zhengfei/index.html

Huawei will miss revenue forecasts by about $30 billion over the next couple of years because of a US campaign against its business, the founder and CEO of the Chinese tech company said Monday.

Washington fears that Beijing could use its equipment to spy on other nations and it's been pressuring allies to shut the company out of next generation super-fast 5G wireless networks. Huawei has repeatedly denied that any of its products pose a risk to national security.

Despite being locked out of the US market for nearly a decade because of those concerns, Huawei grew into the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker and the No. 2 smartphone brand.

But just four weeks on the US trade blacklist is hitting the company hard, hurting its smartphone business and eroding its dominance in 5G equipment.

There is no reason for the Fed to cut rates apart from political pressure from Trump

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:11 PM PDT

GDP growth over 3% and unemployment just 3.6% coupled with growing government spending suggest rates should actually be rising and an economic slowdown should be welcomed.

Concerns about trade and China are well placed and rational. But the Fed should hold its fire until its clear that medicine is needed before using the one policy instrument still available.

Report: Aurora & Harvard University Announce Significant New Cannabis Research Collaborations in Canada.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:45 PM PDT

    http://equitybulletin.com/2019/06/aurora-harvard-university-announce-significant-new-cannabis-research-collaborations-in-canada/

Cannabis has made it's way to top 10 most "novel and significant" research directions in Canada, with funding agencies allocating a record amount of funding to novel Cannabis studies. Take into consideration the piggy-back effect Cannabis has on the #2 most researched epidemic, that of the Opioid epidemic, and you have cannabis reaching the top of most active research topics in Canada. However, the biggest issue facing researchers is the policy of the federal government, which limit research to tracking correlation. In the US, federal law has restricted researchers ability to study any potential medical properties of cannabis. However, this might have just changed in a flash.

Should you ever sell to keep profits, if you're planning on holding long term?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:55 PM PDT

I'm new to the stock game. I purchased Tesla a few weeks ago and it has gone up like 11%. Now it has me asking, is there ever a time to sell a stock despite planning to hold it long term? Obviously it can't go up forever, so it makes sense to take your profits before they're gone... and then hope it goes 3-5% lower then selling price and buy it again.

But I see how this can work against you... so how do you guys approach this scenario? Just keep holding? It must suck when your "Epic month of profit" is slowly taken away from you over the course of 3 months.

Best long term options for investing bi-weekly

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 01:20 PM PDT

Sorry about the title, I'm new to the stock market. I'm 19 and I make $4,100 a month after taxes and before OT. I usually bring home $5,500 a month with the amount of OT I work. I have about $1200 in expenses. I plan on investing $1300 a month into a long term stock option, but I honestly have no clue where I'm going. I've recently put money into VTI but I want something I can put about 600 into bi-weekly and have be a safe smart decision. Sorry for all the backstory but I felt like I needed to include it, any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

So many professional commentating naysayers at large, but Culp so far is doing an amazing job. He has been making some pretty big changes, and comes from Danaher, where he was up 1000% over his 14 years as CEO. I think long term investors may be in for a very exciting ride over the years ahead. Thoughts?

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings implies that there are enough potential subscribers for Netflix and its competitors

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:19 PM PDT

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings pointed out that there are about 1 billion hours of television content consumed each day, that Netflix is "winning about 10% of it."

He says "We compete so broadly with all of these different providers that any one provider entering only makes a difference on the margin.".

Suggesting there are plenty of potential subscribers to go around.

This is not a recommendation to buy or sell. Stocks are not suitable for everybody. Please do your own research.

I've suffered over a year watching Facebook tank after every damaging news report about its business practices. Now it's just up over my purchase price and I'm itching to sell. However, every ranking has FB as a buy or hold. I'm pretty certain there are still more skeletons in its closet. Respond to this with a Buy or Sell and I'll tally up in the next 20 minutes and majority wins just before the closing bell.

Anyone can help explain what happened to IVV today?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:25 AM PDT

Please forgive me if this is a super n00b question, but I cannot seem to find anything by searching around ...

Usually IVV is ~$2 higher than SPY, but today they are about the same price. And when I check my holdings, I do have losses for IVV today.

However, when I check this ETF's performance (in Yahoo finance, google and other ETF website), it still has a gain (same rate as SP500, which it should be).

One guess is that this is a rebalance and I should get some kind of refund. I'm using Merril Edge and I don't see I got any additional shares of IVV or any cash deposited in.

I'm very confused as the price seems did drop ~$2 (otherwise how can I explain the loss in my portfolio...?), but it seems this ETF still has a gain today so far ...?

Selling options when company gets bought out.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 06:06 AM PDT

A company I own options on was just bought out and I am wondering what the best way to sell is to minimize the tax burden.

All options were bought in October 2018.

Some expire on June 20th 2019 so I should sell those.

Some expire in January 2020 and others in January 2021.

How should I sell these. Should I hold on to November 2019 to turn this from 25% to 15% or does that not work with options? What happens to an option when a company it is for gets purchased by a larger biotech.

    Could anyone help me? Thanks.

Company is ARRY btw, PFE bought them out.

Like most people who have bought and held stocks over the last ~5 years, I've seen some nice gains. I'd like to take some profit in case the market corrects. What's the right way to do it? Should I consider anything beyond just limit sells?

My portfolio is tech heavy with all the usual suspects if that matters.

    Hi everyone,

I am holding some FB shares and feeling nervous about tomorrow. What are scenarios after FB published their "white paper" on GlobalCoin? Will it be a big catalyst for bull/bear?

To be honest, I do not know much about the crypto market.

    What does everyone think?

    Thanks.
