Bot network spamming every financial community on Reddit!

The usual Rate My Portfolio sticky can be found here

Hey fellow stock investors & traders, I'm sure you've noticed that every single post on r/stocks has deleted comments. The vast majority of these deleted comments are in fact spam by a bot network that continually creates new users and posts new URLs every day.

Starting around 2 weeks ago (12 days), the bot network replies about 50 to 100 times a day just on r/stocks alone, and goes rampant on all the other subs in the sidebar.

We've tried several techniques with automod to target the bot network to remove the spam comments, including notifying Reddit admins and working with other subreddits to deal with the problem.

I think at this point the problem has been resolved, except the side effect is all these removed comments and that's why I created this post to inform everyone on what exactly has been going on.

Thanks to everyone who use the report button to report spam, it helps us out, so please continuing doing that.

    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Jun 18, 2019

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 01:07 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

    Success!

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:53 PM PDT

So to preface I'm 16M and my mom gave me $10,000 USD to invest in the stock market, what ever I wanted. I did my own research in October 2018 on what companies I thought would be good long term. This is what I ended up settling on:

~$3,000 in CRSP ~$2,000 in ZIOP ~$1,500 in FLEX ~$1,500 in CELG ~$1,000 in TGT ~$500 in IBM ~$500 in SGEN

    I bought on October 29, 2018

As of today it just hit $16,000 USD, I thought I would share this milestone with you guys!

Edit: I ignored you guys, at least for today and I'm now at $16,500. My mom is gone on a work trip right now anyways, so not a lot I could do. Anyways I think I'm going to hold it at least until the trade stuff is over, then sell.

Boeing is open to changing the name of the 737 Max

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:10 AM PDT

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/17/business/boeing-737-name-change/index.html

New York(CNN Business) Boeing is open to renaming its troubled 737 Max, its most important and currently its most infamous aircraft.

Boeing Chief Financial Officer Greg Smith revealed the possibility of a name change while speaking to Bloomberg on the sidelines of the Paris Air Show.

"I'd say we're being open-minded to all the input we get," he said, according to the Bloomberg report. "We're committed to doing what we need to do to restore it. If that means changing the brand to restore it, then we'll address that. If it doesn't, we'll address whatever is a high priority."

    Alibaba stock split

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 12:07 PM PDT

I'm pretty new to the stock market and am wondering what's happens with a split. Baba is proposing a stock split of 8-1. For me it means it will make it easier for other investors to get in on the company at a lower price point which will benefit the stock but I may be wrong. Thoughts?

Is Buffet's intrinsic value calculator actually accurate? I'm new so I'd like to listen to advice in general

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:51 AM PDT

I don't have much to invest but I'd like to start from 5k and then move my way up. I care more about long term investments rather than short ones. In general, 1 or 2 years of being almost certain to double my initial investment would be heaven for me, but I know, the stock market is not so predictable and there are opportunities I have to find to make a nice profit. What could you suggest, in regards to this value calculator and generally about the stock market? (European one preferably). Thank you!

Facebook wants its Cryptocurrency to one day rival the Dollar

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 04:08 AM PDT

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-18/better-than-bitcoin-facebook-unveils-libra-cryptocurrency?srnd=premium-europe

Social-media giant says Libra will be better than Bitcoin. But the company is late to the party and other payment initiatives have stumbled.

Facebook unveiled plans for a new cryptocurrency that the social-media giant hopes will one day trade on a global scale much like the U.S. dollar.

The new currency "Libra" will launch as soon as next year and be what's known as a stablecoin -- a digital currency that's supported by established government-backed currencies and securities. The goal is to avoid massive fluctuations in value so Libra can be used for everyday transactions in a way that more volatile crypotcurrencies, like Bitcoin, haven't been.

Libra is the culmination of a year-long effort to devise an easy way for Facebook users to send and receive money through its messaging services. Private messaging is one of the company's fastest growing products, and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is embracing this by integrating all Facebook's messaging products to let users communicate between its different apps.

There is currently a lot of hype around FB and Libra, but long term seems a very smart move for FB. A stablecoin could be used for payments on Facebook and Instagram and for transferring money between friends on WhatsApp and Messenger. As of today FB is $189 with a price target of $216. I definitely have FB on my portfolio.

What are your opinions about Libra?

    Long Term Investing- Selling

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:00 AM PDT

The thing I am the most lost on when it comes to long term stock investing is when should I look to sell my position? Should I aim for a certain percentage of growth or wait for the company to do something bad or something else? Any input is appreciated.

What are the companies that are working on the contact-less cards domain?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 02:23 PM PDT

I see a slow surge of contact-less cards recently and would like to know if there are any companies that are specifically working on this domain/technology in the US? I understand I can always buy Visa, Master Card or broader Mobile pay ETFs like IPAY. What I am looking for is any companies that are specific to this technology ( potential example like contact less card manufacturer) that I can do further DD on. Thanks in advance.

I never learned any of this in school

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:26 AM PDT

I'm a 25yr old who, very recently, has been considering starting to invest in some stocks. The only issue is that I am completely clueless how any of this works. My goal is to be able to save money at a faster rate than when the banks currently have available. Any helpful tips or reliable websites for a total newbie would incredibly appreciated! I'm terribly lost lol

    $RYAAY - Never flown Ryanair?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 01:18 PM PDT

Europe's budget airline has fallen by about half over the past year, much of it over Brexit fears. Short to mid term, this could cause quite an operational problem for them, but I'm willing to bet they are going to be able to sort this out long term.

There is also another issue where Europe requires that they be effectively controlled by Europeans, in order to have their flying license. Creates quite the potential hard no deal Brexit scenario, where some chunk of their investor base is from the UK, and those investors being suddenly classified as Non-European. Throw in other with the nightmarish possibility of all flights being temporarily ceased between Europe and the UK, at least until open sky arrangements are made.

So, it looks like there are some potential bumps in the road, but this isnt yet certain to play out. Even if it does, I would expect they would eventually make necessary operational adjustments. A trifecta of troubles, that I could imagine over the horizon, could be this Hard Brexit mayhem plus a recession, as much of their travel is discretionary, plus throw in whatever kind of terrorism/accident wildcard into the mess, plus who knows what else could come up. The price has been dropping much, but could always still drop a lot more.

Regardless, those are all mere possibilities. There is also the other possibility that things somehow get sorted out, and this external turbulence doesn't come forth. The recent price plunging would/could make this an increasingly compelling investment.

    Thoughts?

Histogenics Form 8-K.... and I'm lost. Help?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:50 AM PDT

Have shares in Histogenics, namely because I like to mess around with cheap stocks that may be winners. Everything was flat and normal with little gains until last week when they soared ahead of EPS reports. Then the 8-K form was filed regarding the Ocugen merger and now they're going down rather rapidly. I don't know enough to understand if it's just people being "rather safe than sorry" or if I'm just a dumbass that needs to bail. Can anyone advise?

Making the Decision to Liquidate a Long Term Holding

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:38 AM PDT

I have a few hundred shares of ALE which are the result of DRIP from my original purchase. When I bought the stock, the dividend was near 5% and I liked the combination of a nice dividend and the chance of share price appreciation. I have sold most of the original purchase and booked a nice gain. This is in a conventional IRA so no immediate capital gains implications. Well, it has appreciated to where I think it is more than fairly valued now. I am thinking of selling the remaining shares to roll into T. This would again pay a good dividend and has better potential for share price appreciation than ALE in my opinion.

Since ALE has been a core holding of mine, I am wondering if anyone has criteria for when they make such a move. Any advice appreciated.

    The AES Corporation (AES).

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:10 AM PDT

Does anyone have any thoughts on AES? I think it's severely undervalued, and I love how they are apart of the energy storage industry pushing for a clean, renewable future. Their future plans indicate they are transitioning into practically only clean energy, which is really what lured me in. Their financials are fantastic as well, aside from the debt mainly.

will ultrashort term bond funds be affected by fed tomorrow?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:15 AM PDT

I took all my money out of money market and put it in brokerage account just so i don't have to deal with stupid pattern day trading restriction, but i don't actually want to trade that money, it's just my emergency fund, i want it to be liquid, and give me >-2.5% and < 2.5% return... So I asked reddit how i could achieve that and my favorite answer was 'JPST' jp morgan short term bond fund... anyway so far, so good, 0 return, which is what i want... but I'm curious how a rate cut would affect this? and also whether 'fund popularity shifts' will lead to large swings in price?

Put options on the BYND bubble

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:45 AM PDT

So I'm not a very experienced investor / trader, hence this thread. I do not own BYND shares (unfortunately)

The SP of BYND is insane in my opinion. I would like to buy put options for BYND. I have never bought any options, but have read some about it.

If you have experience in options, what would you do if you were in my situation?

    Time to sell?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:50 AM PDT

I'm a newer investor, about 6-8 months. With the way the market is going right now, I'm up 11% on my investments from when I started. However I've been wanting to put most of my investments in ETFs, something more long term. I'm thinking i should just sell off the sticks I own now and take that 11% profit and investing in ETFs. And then when Trump tweets about tariffs or when some "expert" starts talking about the recession and the market Plummets, then maybe buy back some of the stocks I sold at that lower price. Thoughts?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:22 AM PDT

So I set a few limits on my stocks, it said they sold today, but my limits were set lower than what the stocks hit? Is there a reason for this? A glitch maybe? Using RBC direct investing fyi. If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Tesla has climbed over 25% from recent lows on the back of Elon's positive outlook. But, given the track record, how much credit can these take?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:05 PM PDT

Q1 wasnt great, deliveries were lower and tax credit incentives are due to fall further. Competition is growing.

This isnt a recommendation to buy or sell. stocks arent suitable for everybody. Please do your own research.

So I was able to get Tesla stock when it was at a all time low and finally is has started the climb I was only able to buy 4 shares I was wondering if it would drop again to allow me to purchase more. So should I invest now and buy more Tesla or will it have another small dip in the next month where I could buy more.
