Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:13 AM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days)Largest Insider Selling (Last 7 Days)

Republican Senator: Facebook is 'expanding their monopoly' with Libra Posted: 18 Jun 2019 04:00 PM PDT Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) told Yahoo Finance it sounds like Facebook is "expanding their monopoly" with its new cryptocurrency project. "We need to see exactly what their specific proposals are, but I'm very concerned about Facebook's behavior on a range of fronts. I'm concerned about their size, I'm concerned about their anti-competitive conduct, I'm concerned about their rampant violations of privacy," Hawley said. In a statement to Yahoo Finance, a Facebook spokesperson responded to Hawley's criticism by saying "Libra is an outside decentralized nonprofit entity of which we are one of 27 members." Hawley — one of the Republican party's most outspoken tech critics — said the FTC needs to "get tough" on Facebook. He said regulators should think about breaking up the company. "There needs to be an antitrust investigation. I hope one will go forward, but in the meantime, in the immediate future with this consent decree — if it's just a fine of a few billion dollars, that's a speeding ticket to Facebook. They need to get serious," he said. "Name Mark Zuckerberg. Name him, if he has in fact participated in violating consent decree as reports indicate. And let's consider some tougher penalties, too." Reports surfaced this month that the Department of Justice is weighing antitrust action in an effort to rein in Google's business and search practices, and that the Federal Trade Commission was looking into a possible antitrust probe against Facebook. The social network has been under fire for several years now with allegations of improper use of personal data, and accusations that its platforms are biased against conservative-leaning voices. 'People can't escape them' When asked if he would trust Facebook with his money, Hawley laughed and said "no." "I don't trust Facebook with anything," he added. Hawley said the biggest problem with Facebook is that people "can't escape them." "People who say, 'I'm never having anything to do with Facebook. I'm not going to use their platform' — well, then it turns out that their network is all over the web. It turns out that their code is everywhere," said Hawley. "This is part of what being a monopoly means and having all of this market power is that even when you say, 'I don't want anything to do with them,' they keep coming and finding you. And they keep coming and taking your personal information. I mean, we've got to put a stop to this," said Hawley. The concern over Libra is bipartisan. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, said financial watchdogs should scrutinize Facebook's cryptocurrency closely. "Facebook is already too big and too powerful, and it has used that power to exploit users' data without protecting their privacy. We cannot allow Facebook to run a risky new cryptocurrency out of a Swiss bank account without oversight," said Brown. But not everyone on Capitol Hill is slamming the project. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told Yahoo Finance she's not as worried about Libra as some of the other colleagues. "The financial sector has a tremendous amount of compliance around data security and privacy — and this may be something that Facebook finds out 'oh, there are rules of the road' for other sectors," said Blackburn. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, is calling on Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) to hold a hearing to examine the cryptocurrency project. In a letter to Waters, McHenry said "While there is great promise for this new technology in fostering financial inclusion and faster payments, particularly in the developing world, we know there are many open questions as to the scope and scale of the project and how it will conform to our global financial regulatory framework." McHenry said lawmakers must understand Libra. "We need to go beyond the rumors and speculation and provide a forum to assess this project and its potential unprecedented impact on the global financial system," said McHenry in the letter. In a statement, Waters said Facebook is "continuing its unchecked expansion" with its cryptocurrency plans. "Given the company's troubled past, I am requesting that Facebook agree to a moratorium on any movement forward on developing a cryptocurrency until Congress and regulators have the opportunity to examine these issues," said Waters. Waters said Facebook executives should come to Capitol Hill and testify about Libra. "We look forward to responding to lawmakers' questions as this process moves forward," said a Facebook spokesperson in a statement. How does everyone pick a stock to add into their portfolio? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 04:32 PM PDT Hi everyone, What do you look for when picking a stock to invest in? This is a very broad question, so shout out any specific criteria that a stock has to meet in order for you to be interested in it. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:50 PM PDT So I have no position in BYND but with the price shooting up and putting a ridiculous valuation on the company which is now forcing the different funds to buy in, it got me thinking that since these funds do scheduled rebalancing, won't these funds end up bag holding BYND if it corrects like Tilray did and then being forced to sell for losses as the valuation corrects and BYND doesn't make the cut to be in the fund at all? I figure when they buy in, BYND will probably rise obviously but after they all have bought their required amount of shares, if the stock tanks overnight, are there rules for these market tracking funds to be able to sell or are they really stuck with holding onto the stock until the next rebalancing period? I know this isn't asking for advise or anything, I just had the thought pop in my head and thought it would be interesting to hear what reddit has to say on the matter and if anyone knows if Tilray was large enough to be put into these funds (before it's demise) and how that went for them. Also sorry if any words are messed up or wrong terminology. Going on no sleep and I think it's about nap time lol [link] [comments] | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Selling when things are not doing so well - some advice needed Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:34 PM PDT Or even general strategy would be helpful : / Just yesterday, I wanted to just sell some of my stocks so I can convert it to hard cash. But I bought them when it was dirt cheap, so I was quite reluctant to sell them. Things are doing "so-so" on the charts for this particular stock (e.g. it's rising but at a slow to moderate rate) so making it more difficult for me to decide if I should sell (or maybe even just sell some of them?). Does any of the trader here have any strategy for this sort of situation? Situations can be:
I guess (3) and 4) are quite obvious i.e. just sell them? (1) is the situation I'm facing right now : / Any advice, experience or tips would be much appreciated. Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:13 AM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New FilingsThis table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. Amended FilingsThis table lists amended filings in the last week, and is useful for monitoring changes in existing investments or when a fund closes a position. I have eliminated all filings with less than a 5% change in ownership. Is it a good idea for me to pursue a career in trading stocks? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 12:50 AM PDT I started my time in the stock market at 18 years old. I read warren buffet's books and be said to just invest, not trade. In a seminar i attended the person said "if you want to make money, invest, if you want to have fun, trade, i dont know about you but i want to make money". So I just did that But now i am 21 and I have no source of income, my financial goal right now is to have a source of income that can pay the bills, things that i want like travel but still give me the freedom of time to actually travel and do activities i like. Will studying first and then going ahead in trading achieve my financial goal?
