Elon Musk says he deleted his Twitter account

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet early Monday he "just deleted" his Twitter account. He made his statement in a tweet, but the account still appeared to be active after the post.

The billionaire is only months removed from a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission regarding his Twitter use. The SEC alleged that in February, Musk broke the terms of a November penalty, following his notorious "funding secured" tweet about taking his car company private.

Musk's deal with the SEC requires a lawyer must approve any of his social media posts that may include material information about Tesla. Under the agreement, Musk agreed that he would not tweet about Tesla, finances, production numbers and other specific information without first getting a lawyer's approval. A federal judge approved the settlement in May.

I think this could be one of the best news for TSLA that I read this year

The recession talk is taking a back seat after the big revision to April retail sales.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 06:05 PM PDT

The retail sales update was like 2 reports in 1 because there was a major positive revision to April's numbers and May's growth beat estimates.

It's almost like a new month was added to the retail sales report as monthly growth in April went from -0.2% to 0.3%. Yearly growth improved from 3.1% to 3.7%. The next 3 data points are all monthly. Retail less autos sales growth was revised higher from 0.1% to 0.5%. Retail less autos and gas sales growth was pushed higher by 0.5% to 0.3%. Finally, the all-important core growth rate was up from 0% to 0.4%.

In May, retail sales, retail sales less autos, retail sales less autos and gas, and the control group all had monthly growth of 0.5%. Headline retail sales growth missed estimates for 0.7% and the others beat estimates for 0.4%. Yearly headline growth fell to 3.2%. Control group sales growth was steady at 3.4%.

Quarter over quarter retail sales and food services growth ex gas, building materials, and autos was the highest since 2008.

AT&T, Inc. (T) Technical Analysis Stock Report

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:33 PM PDT

    SUMMARY:

AT&T is most recognized as a wireless company, but their portfolio of business is much larger than that. Cricket Wireless, DIRECTV, WarnerMedia, and the old SBC Global are all segments of AT&T.

While stock performance hasn't been stellar, T has still returned about the same as the S&P 500, but currently carries a 6% dividend.
The stock has been in a minor downtrend over the last couple years, but the larger long-term uptrend still remains intact, and it may produce a great buying opportunity at a cheap valuation.

You are the reason that these stocks have so much potential upside. If anything goes right for these companies their share prices will skyrocket. Some of the best returns in the history of the stock market have come from companies that have completely disrupted industries. Their lack of profitability up to this point is strategic and they are both gobbling up market share. And I guarantee most of you use their services.

    Getting back into trading stocks

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 07:07 PM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I used to trade stocks and then I stopped, last time I did trade was back in 2006. Now I'm relearning everything again still remember some of the basics and fundamentals, I think its always good to have a refresher. I wanted to run this idea by people who trade stocks and see what do you think about my plan. Right now I'm learning from Udemy and only resources. Here is my plan so far but I wanted to run it by everyone and let me know what you guys think of what can I do to improve my plan in order to hit my target

    • I'm thinking of starting with only 2000 dollars CAD, I'm not going to do day trading only swing trading until I get the hang of things, time is not an issue.
    • For starting off I'm aiming really low my target is to make 150 dollars a week.
    • I am going to trade on the TSX. I'm not sure if I should trade in penny stocks or more reputable companies.
    • I am thinking of trading in either healthcare or technology sector but you're more than welcome to change my mind.
    • What do you guys think about mailing subscriptions sites such as gurufocus.com are they worthed or nope

    Thank You

Today's Top Headlines for Monday, June 17th, 2019

    • U.S. stock futures were pointing to a higher open ahead of the Monday session, as investors look ahead to a two-day Fed meeting that begins tomorrow. The Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq were lower in three of the past four sessions, yet they all posted two consecutive weeks of gains. Halfway through the month, June remains on track to be the best month for the Dow this year. (CNBC)
    • When Federal Reserve officials meet this week they are expected to clear the way for a July interest rate cut by downgrading their economic forecast, tweaking the language in their statement and reducing their interest rate forecasts. (CNBC)
    • The Fed won't cut rates at its June meeting. Here's why (CNBC)
    • Bitcoin continued to rise this morning, after leaping across the $9,000 mark Sunday, boosted by reports that Facebook (FB) is soon set to launch its own cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is up 140% since the start of the year. But it's still more than 50% lower than its all-time high near $20,000 in December 2017. (CNBC)
    • On today's U.S. economic calendar, the New York Fed's Empire State manufacturing Index is out at 8:30 a.m. ET. The National Association of Home Builders is out with its June sentiment index at 10 a.m. ET. There are no companies reporting quarterly earnings today. (CNBC)
    • Shares of Array BioPharma (ARRY) were surging about 60% in premarket trading, after Pfizer (PFE) agreed to buy the cancer-fighting biotechnology company for about $11.4 billion. The boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction. (CNBC)
    • Democratic presidential candidates approach their first televised debates in a scramble for the 2020 nomination, with former Vice President Joe Biden a vulnerable front-runner, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows.
    • President Donald Trump is ready to proceed with tariffs on the remaining $300 billion in Chinese goods in the absence of a trade deal, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told CNBC today. "We will eventually make a deal, but if we don't, the president is perfectly happy with continuing the tariff movements."
    • Wilbur Ross: It's 'complicated to negotiate with the European Union' (CNBC)
    • Huawei will reduce its production capacity, which could hit revenue growth, the CEO of the Chinese tech giant said today, as he revealed his plans to deal with the continued pressure from the U.S. "Our revenue will be down by about $30 billion dollars compared to forecasts, so our sales revenue due this year and next will be about $100 billion." (CNBC)
    • China's state news agency Xinhua said the country's investigation into FedEx (FDX) should not be seen as retaliation for trade tensions between the U.S. and China. China launched a probe over parcels intended for telecom giant Huawei delivered to the wrong address. (CNBC)
    • Iran said today it will surpass the internationally agreed levels of its low-enriched uranium levels in 10 days. The country would increase enrichment levels to 20%, significantly closer to bomb-grade material, for use in local reactors. (CNBC)
    • Iran's elite defense force finds new funding sources as tension rises with U.S.(WSJ)
    • Raytheon International (RTN) CEO John Harris told CNBC today the Trump administration should not worry about the company's merger with United Technologies (UTX). "The combination has little to no overlap," Harris said. Last week, the president told CNBC he's a "little concerned" about how the deal could harm competition. (CNBC)
    • Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg believes the safe return of its best-selling plane, the 737 Max, is the company's most important objective. "This is a different show for us, it is not about orders," Muilenburg told CNBC. The 737 Max was grounded in mid-March after two fatal crashes involving those jets.
    • Target (TGT) said its registers are back online after outages over the weekend that prevented shoppers from making purchases on Saturday, and some from using credit cards on Sunday. The retailer said neither problem was caused by a cyberattack. (CNBC)

ARRY - To be bought out by PFE; hold or sell?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:20 PM PDT

Hope this is the right place to post. I'm a fairly new investor having started my Roth IRA a little over a year ago. I woke up this morning and found that my account is several thousand dollars higher Friday's closing, but I'm trying to stem my excitement until I figure out exactly what is happening.

This is the first time any of my holdings are being bought out by another company. Pfizer is buying out at $48/share and today's closing price was $46.44 (up 56.94%). I've tried doing some research but I'm not exactly sure what will happen. If I do nothing, will my shares disappear and my account credited at $48/share? That would mean a guaranteed 3.3% growth in that holding between now and the buyout. Is it worth selling now and reinvesting into a different holding that might yield better than 3.3%? Is there any chance the buyout might not go through and ARRY crashes back down to where it was prior to the buyout announcement?

Thanks in advance for taking the time.

The 11% Yield Dividend Portfolio (New Direction for Dividend Income Journey)

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 11:17 AM PDT

For those that saw my last post on the start of my dividend journey, you may remember that my goal was income and not capital appreciation. The problem is that after a lot of reflection, I felt that the path I chose was not the most efficient way to reach my investment goals.

After a lot of research, I found a very interesting strategy on seeking alpha from a retired gentleman (goes by high yield investor) that lives off the income generated by his portfolio. He has been investing this way since 2014 and has been living off the income for the past 2 years.

This portfolio takes on more risk intelligently, for income that is about 3 times greater than the average dividend growth portfolio. Risk is spread between 40 holdings, and income produced from each holding is limited to 2.5% of the portfolio. I created a video that explains the reasoning behind the strategy and how it compares to the classic DGI approach during the 2008 recession.
