Boss is withholding my final pay, and I’m pretty sure there’s nothing I can do.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 07:42 AM PDT

I've worked the last two years at a small landscaping company in North East Pennsylvania. Over that time, my boss has worn me down and over worked me. She is a hard person to work for, and it took time to realize that. I can go into further detail about the boss if asked, but ultimately this post is about how she's withholding my pay. I did give her two weeks notice. The day before my final day, I reminded her that tomorrow would be my last day, since I gave her my notice on a Thursday instead of a Friday. She responded that I still owed her a task and that she would withhold $100 from my pay til I did that task. She wanted me to wash and wax her truck. I told her that I found the task to be demeaning and tried compensating for it by buying her a car wash and wax and some Lotto tickets. Looking back, I should have just saved the $20. Now it's two weeks later, I'm waiting for her to tell me that my pay is ready for me to pick up and she hasn't responded. I know that what she's doing is illegal, and I've seen her do it to other workers (adults and minors alike), but unfortunately she has her business set up in a way that there's very little if no paper trail. She always pays in cash, I've never received a pay stub, the only tax form she gives me is a 1099 misc. I honestly don't have the money for an attorney. It's not about the money to me right now anyway, it's more about the fact that she's petty and gets away doing this somehow. It sucks for me right now. I feel like there's nothing I can do and it burns me up knowing that she's getting away with it. The only thing I can think of, is to warn as many people about her as I can.

TLDR: my former employer won't pay me cause I won't wash her truck by hand.

Fired for not working hard enough while on vacation

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 07:48 AM PDT

    IL, USA

I am a very narrowly specialized professional in my organization and the only one with experience and knowledge in this particular field. My title is manager and I do not have any direct reports. I have been with the company for 2 years and I have been asking for an additional resource all this time. I have been contacted with questions while on vacation multiple times. I have worked while on vacation and on weekends. I am also the company's crisis coordinator. As a crisis coordinator I have assigned and trained a backup and a team of crisis members. On Thursday and Friday, I had a vacation that had been requested several weeks in advance. This vacation was for me to entertain my friend, who lives out of the country, to come and visit America for the first time. On the morning of my first day off, I received a call from the deputy crisis coordinator, who I trained and is a director in the company and was my boss for my entire employment history with the company up until 2 weeks prior to this incident. He informed me of a crisis for which I gave very clear directions for the next steps that needed to be taken. However, though I was unable to go back to the office, I made it clear that I would be available all day to speak and plan with different stakeholders to provide guidelines and remotely manage the situation, which did happen for most of the day. At the end of the day I received a phone call from my newly appointed manager and the backup deputy mentioned before, informing me that I needed to travel to a different part of the country to lead employees who were being sent as well to deal with the crisis. My assessment throughout the day determined that the risk was low and contained. Therefore when I received the call for urgent action and termination of my vacation, I expressed dissatisfaction and I stated my disappointment for the disruption of my and my friends vacation, which seemed like a huge encroachment on my personal space/life. However, at the end of the conversation, I stated that I would accommodate their demand and agreed for the team to book my travel for whenever they needed me to be there. An hour later, after I had changed my vacation plans, I received a call from the deputy, who told me that I no longer needed to travel but to come in to the office the next morning, which was the second day of my vacation, to provide plans for moving forward with the crisis. I arrived in the office before 8am the next day and at 10am I was called by HR and the deputy and told that I was being terminated for lack of leadership skills and being emotional in a crisis situation. I was offered a severance package and walked out of the office. I have not signed any documents yet but I was told there will be documents arriving in the mail and I have a call with HR on Tuesday to discuss next steps. In the meantime, I've been told not to communicate with anyone in the organization for the duration of my severance.

What should I look out for on the severance contract and do you think it's worth it to pursue this legally? In the past there have been lawsuits against the company from people who have been fired that have been successful (I believe the former employee got double the severance package). I'm pretty sure the HR is very unorganized and doubt there is much that is documented. It is worth noting that all of my performance reviews have been exceeds expectations

Wife moved out of state with children.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:31 AM PDT

My wife left our home in NY to go live with family in Texas bringing our two children ages 2 and 5 without my consent. We had been arguing a lot and struggling with our marriage but she up and left and when I asked where she was she lied and told me she was staying with family nearby. Every attempt I made to see my kids she gave excuses as to why she couldn't meet me. I'm struggling with what steps I should take. Throwaway account here. Can anybody make suggestions? I'm at a loss. We have been communicating and she eventually told me the truth.

Attorney contingency fee will leave me owing him money because 2/3 of settlement goes to mortgage company.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 10:27 AM PDT

I live in Alabama and had a house fire where the insurance company wanted to investigate. After many months I received a letter from an attorney for the Insurance company requesting I submit to a Testimony under Oath. I of course got an attorney to explain to me what the implications were etc. He had me sign an contingency agreement contract that was very basic in nature, only a single page. He notified insurance company of representation, was present for the Testimony, completed some insurance documents regarding the structure value, obtained an appraisel, and made some alterations to the pricing of the contents list that were fraudulent and later had to be resubmitted with accurate info. Other than those things he had limited contact with insurance company. We were waiting to hear if the claim was going to be denied or not. Out of the blue the insurance company sent a letter with a check for structure portion which was $174K and change. The Mortgage payoff is $138k and change. The content portion is $44k but after it is adjusted for depreciation the check will only be $27k. After expenses and attorney fees I am in the negative. Is it common practice to collect fees on a Mortgage which is only a pass through item? Should he have detailed that in the contract, I feel confident that had I understood that I would have not signed the agreement without negotiating a different arrangement or possibly want to pay him an hourly rate plus fees. He has offered a lower percentage but even then he will be collecting 75% more than I will be getting.

[Oregon] Partner hasn't received wage in 5+ weeks.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 12:57 AM PDT

Posted with permission from my non-reddit using partner

My partner was hired on May 21st for his dream job that he's worked hard to get. It's a pretty laid back job that is salary based, not hourly. He is a social media manager for a local company and works very hard daily to provide content multiple times a day. He hasn't been paid yet, and two days ago he asked his boss over text when payday was and was left on read. It is now June 29th, and he hasn't received any compensation for his work and no response on when to expect it. Paperwork was signed on June 10th but he was told he'd be compensated for all his work since the 21st.

Oregon law states that: "An employer must pay employees at least once every 35 days on regular paydays designated by the employer. Oregon Stat. 652:120" But it has been 39 days now.

Should we wait longer? We aren't sure what to do and his boss hasn't responded in days. I feel like he shouldn't keep managing the social media until he gets at least an answer. We really really need this money.

My mother is helping my aunt avoid paying back child support [California]

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 09:18 AM PDT

Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post.

My grandmother died a couple months ago and left some money to each of her children. My mother is the executor of the estate.

My aunt owes years (~16) of back child support to my cousins dad. This will be the first time in around 15 year that my aunt will have money that is hers. Up until two months ago my grandmother was paying for everything.

My mother doesn't like my cousin's dad and has decided to set up what she is calling a trust with my aunt's portion of the money. Her plan is to give my aunt small amounts of cash out of this trust whenever my aunt asks for it. My mother has explained on multiple occasions to my aunt, that doing it this way will allow my aunt to avoid having to pay the back child support.

This sounds shady to me and my mother is refusing to talk to any professional about this which is odd for her. I guess I was wondering if this sounds odd to anyone else, and if so does anyone have a suggestion on what to do going forward.

Maternity pay reduced while on maternity leave

My partner has been informed that due to a policy change her maternity pay will be reduced by £4000 over the next year. Given that she had already started her maternity leave when she was informed of this is there a legal ground to contest it? We live in Scotland.

Resident Physician - Hospital Closing suddenly and without warning

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:41 AM PDT

    Hi,

Myself, and ~500 other people are medical residents at Hahnemann University Hospital (HUH) in Philadelphia. Our academic institute is through Drexel University - I am committed through Drexel which operates their program at HUH A private company "AAHS" owns Hahnemann, and as of 6/26 decided to close it abruptly. Hundreds of medical residents are now without hospitals to work at; Drexel essentially shut their programs down, and they are left scrambing to find other hospitals to work at.

AAHS has declared Chapter 11, and is preparing to close the hospital in August. My program is trying to find other hospitals to send us to. The directors in my program were completely blindsided by this.

Here is where I'm concerned: Drexel knew that AAHS was closing the hospital months ago, as they state in their legal filings against AAHS. We were not aware of this closure until 6/26 when AAHS announced it. I think if they gave us more warning, many of us would have signed monthly leases and our program directors could have had more time to make arrangements on where to send us. There is a significant chance my training will be delayed or compromise because of their delay. An additional month of training translates to ~20k in lost salary.

Right now I have no say in what happens. My program may reorganize at another hospital, or I might get an email saying it is done and I have to find another one on my own. If my program is able to reorganize, I won't care that much. If the ACGME (accredditation committee) steps in and shuts out program down before this happens, I will be livid.

I'm wondering if this is worth a legal consultation, and if I should do it individually or with the other residents? Right now I am saving every document and email I get just in case. Stopped my 401k/retirement contributions. Anything else I should be doing?

Hotel tenant restraining order against hotel manager

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 09:48 AM PDT

My wife has been the manager of a small (20-ish) unit hotel for about 15 years. This hotel is in California. This year, for the first time, we had to evict a guest (check in was November 2018) through the court system. We won the judgement, submitted the court filing, and the necessary sherif forms for them to complete the eviction process, which is set for July 2nd.

Yesterday, we received a stay of execution for the eviction, as well as a motion for a civil restraining order against my wife. We don't believe the tenant has any legal recourse and this is a last-ditch effort to try and stay at the property. My question is, if for some reason the restraining order is granted, how does that affect my wife? Would she be breaking the restraining order by going to work? Is there any argument or statement she should prepare ( such as my wife being required to be on site when the sheriff performs the eviction, or that she's worked there 15 years while the tenant has been there 7 months?

(WI) Do I have the right to get my belongings from car (impounded) after husbands car accident, could I have taken car away calling for tow myself, and how do I know if they’re overcharging me?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:53 AM PDT

(Dunn County, WI) My husband was in a single car accident- sleepy, drifted, rolled- and totaled our car. We had minimum, liability, but only us affected. Thank God my husband survived, it was bad, but he won't be working for possibly months. When I went to where the car was taken, I had no idea I'd be paying. (I've been in accidents, but not had car taken before.) They want well over $300, and that's not including the storage fees. I went the day after the accident. Since I'll be going to work to support the family, and currently that was our working vehicle and rent is due and et al I couldn't afford that. I asked to get my things from there, but was refused until I pay. Which will keep adding up. Couldn't I have taken my vehicle myself? No pending investigations , as far as I know. Don't I have right to my possessions, esp his cell phone, paperwork, and house keys? They said they'll part out the car when I've paid, which is what I was gonna do. They said part of expenses is their boss picking up car pieces off side of highway. This doesn't fully make sense to me. I asked if I couldn't have done that, 'no, that's too dangerous on side of busy road'. The sherif has originally told me, on phone, there's three places in the county where they use in such situations.

Wife is 5 months pregnant and was just let go with no warning, notice or severance. Options? [US-MD]

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:53 AM PDT

My wife is 27 with a degree in business management. She'd recently been employed by a kitchen and bath remodeling company as a Customer Service Coordinator. She'd been employed there for just under 2 years.

They, for obvious reasons, gave her no reason for her termination but it came less than one month after informing them of her pregnancy and she had 0 formal reprimands prior to being let go. Unemployment will cover ~50% of her previous salary and we'll likely be filing for that Monday. She's considering a return to her previous waitress position which paid comparable but she doesn't know for how long she can manage 8 hour shifts on her feet.

Is it even worth calling an attorney? Should she attempt to pursue a new office job related to her degree despite the fact she's so far along in her pregnancy?

When the child abuse the parent

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 09:44 AM PDT

A few days ago, I got a voice mail from the police that he wants my son comes to the police station for fingerprint and photograph. I called the police back in April when my son hit me. I was so tired being beaten from time to time that I could not hold it anymore. Now I regret calling the police. The attorneys I talked to say that the police wants to charge him when they say they want his fingerprints and photograph. I want him to stop beating me but I feel like I have gone to far by reporting him to the police. I am so sad and anxious about how this will turn out. Is there anything I could do to have the charges dropped? Thank you

[Texas] Apartment Won't Fix Shower --- What Can I Do?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 12:43 PM PDT

Our shower stopped functioning on Monday night. The bottom faucet was not properly installed when I moved in, and it came loose while the water was running. We basically have a pipe sticking out of the wall. Water still runs, but it shoots across the room and we can't use the shower head.

I submitted a work request with my apartment complex on the evening of Monday (6/24). A day later, I heard nothing. I emailed the manager of the property directly and I was promised it would be fixed. I've followed up every day since. For the past two days I've been told a plumber was scheduled to come from another property, but he's been a no-show both days. It's been five days without a working shower.

Right now we have to drive to our gym to use their showers. That isn't feasible for much longer, as I'm about to start a new work schedule.

What is my recourse in Texas?

Boss promised promotion and salary increase. Been working on details for five months ahead of July 1. Promotion already announced to others and used in HR hiring materials. In final meeting yesterday, boss tells me promotion was never approved and they’ll revisit in 2020. (PA)

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 10:00 AM PDT

    Throwaway account.

I have been working for a highly respected organization for over a year and a half. I was hired in at a lower level and promoted in my third month from coordinator to assistant manager. The position I filled had been posted as a manager level job, but I was informed by my company at the time that while I was qualified to be a manager (I have over a decade of experience in a different field and multiple graduate degrees), they never allow someone to jump two tiers at once.

They left the job description unchanged and told me if I did the job for one year at the assistant manager level and accepted a $15K raise, then after one year I would be promoted to manager with a $30K raise.

In the year after my promotion, my boss would mention this deal to me regularly. I have a reference in texts from last October. They even acknowledged the $30K raise in front of another manager. Did my job. By all accounts I've proven myself "a star" (direct quote from my boss via text). I have dollar figures to back up my exceptional performance over the last year.

So, in February of this year, I began the formal conversation with my boss about the promotion, my raise, and hiring the support staff I need to round out my team. Everything was fine. My boss and I are social outside of work. I've been to their house multiple times. They text me somewhat regularly. On multiple occasions it has crossed the line into groping or sexual propositioning, but I have always turned them down. Other people have been witness to this.

Because my boss texts me regularly, I have statements from them discussing how they've already begun the work of getting my promotion and a significant increase in salary. These texts date to February when our conversations began. In that same week, I was required to begin attending weekly manager meetings. All of the other managers were made aware that I was transitioning into the role of manager soon. I prepared a new job description for myself, which my boss approved, alongside job descriptions for my new support staff. Those job descriptions, which reference me as manager, were approved by HR and used in hiring the new person who will report to me. My performance review this year was even carried out by my boss (rather than my supervisor) because of the promotion.

Throughout the process, I was told to be patient and that my company would only process a promotion on July 1. I put up some fight based on the previous promise, but I have waited, checking in on progress every week or so. Just last week my boss texted to let me know that they had passed word of my latest six-figure acquisition on to the CEO and head of HR.

We are announcing my new support staff on Monday, so yesterday I asked my boss if we should include the official announcement of my promotion in the same email. Also asked for an update on the salary as we are at the July 1 threshold.

My boss said that HR wants to complete a salary study for people at my level and they need to see me in my position for at least two years before they'll entertain a promotion. They said we can revisit in early 2020, but that if I keep doing what I'm doing and close another seven figure deal, they can get me a sizable cash bonus.

Needless to say, I do not trust them any longer. I have been lied to multiple times. This weekend is all about finding a new job.

Looking for explanations, here is what I've come up with:

    (1) This week, all of the managers (myself included) went to bat for a lower-level employee who had been recruited to work elsewhere. We told our boss that they had to make a significant counteroffer to keep that employee. After much back and forth—and closed door questioning of whether any of us were giving this employee counsel and discussing wages—we won and the employee signed back on to stay. That employee is the one who will be announced as the new member of my team on Monday. The sudden disappearance of my promotion and raise seems tied this and my boss's belief that we were discussing wages and counseling a colleague on salary negotiations.

    (2) My boss was trying to get me my promotion and raise, but backed down because of my continued refusal of sexual advances. Last week, I drove my boss to and from an after-work function. When we left, my boss said to just go to my neighborhood. I left them out on a street corner near my house without inviting them in because they had been drinking and get handsy when drunk. I don't know if that was just a final straw for them.

I have a meeting with HR this week and do not know how best to handle this scenario. Should I bring the text messages from my boss with me? Should I broach the sexual harassment side of things in this meeting? At this point, I am done with the place, but having the promised title at the very least would be helpful in securing a new job.

Do I have any legal recourse?

    Church and big box store

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 06:01 AM PDT

My friend (no, really.... this is actually for a friend) had a horrible experience with a big box store, the police, and her job. She is a frazzled stay at home mom with a three year old and toddler. She's a great mom, but that would leave anyone frazzled. She got out to go to the store while her husband stayed home with the kiddos. She went to a big box store for eggs, milk, and coffee for the morning. She was in a hurry to get home for bedtime routines and in her rush, she scanned her items, but didn't finish her transaction fully before she left the store. (The total was around $8).

She got home and she was getting everything in her household settled and a police officer knocked on her door and asked for her receipt. That's when she had that dreaded, oh crap! moment. She apologized profusely and offered to go make it right. The officer told her he needed to watch the cameras to see if it as intentional. Being the decent human she is, she immediately went back to the store and paid. I'm not sure there were ever any charges. She didn't get booked. I don't think there was a court date. No fingerprints. And the store decided to not press charges.

Here's where the problem comes in. A member of the church she works at also works at the police department. That person took it upon themselves to immediately go to the church as a "spokesperson". They claimed that they wouldn't have hired her if she had this in her record (charges were actually dropped) and that the information would have been found out in a background check. My friend was fired from her job before she could even defend herself (to her job). Well once she told her side they told her that a) she could just quit to keep it quiet and b) that actually a bigger part of the problem was that they didn't have funding her her position anymore anyways (this was not even mentioned previously).

My friend called the police department to inquire why they called her job and to complain. The chief said that he wasn't the person that talked to her job. That they don't have a practice of doing that. She found out who the person was and tried to file a complaint. They gave her the runaround of "its public knowledge "(no one sought this information as it actually was never a thing) and that theft is theft (charges were not pressed, so there was no conviction). They are being stand-off-ish with her now.

So! Were there any wrongdoings on the police departments part? Her job? Can the police take it upon themselves to go report this to her work? And can her work actually fire her?

tl:dr my friend is a space cadet sometimes. She accidentally stole $8 of groceries and lost her job because the police reported it to her job.

Ex wants back money for a birthday present [Czechia]

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:16 AM PDT

So, a few months back my mom started dating this guy and during their relationship he took her on a vacation as a birthday present. But my mom broke up with him recently and he didn't take it well. Today she got a text message from him basicaly saying that he's had enough and wants the money back (somewhere around $1500) and if she doesn't do so he'll get her fired. In said message he also insulted both her and my brother multiple times.

I just want to know if what he's doing is legal, or if we can do something about it.

Also suing is not an option since my mom is a state worker and would get fired because of it.

I owe $72,000 because of mislabeled paperwork

    Posted: 28 Jun 2019 08:58 PM PDT

    TL:DR

My parent was in the military. I received education benefits. My parent did not complete the contracted agreement of 4 years "to the day" of service. Their exit paperwork was mislabeled. Because of this, I have been sent collections for $72,000!

My veteran parent was eligible for benefits in the Air Force that he gifted to me when I was 19. I received education benefits during 2011-2012. While I used this to attend school, I lived with my parents. Long story short my parents where financially abusive and used my teen bank account linked to a parent account as their own personal checking account. Most, if not all of the benefits were spent this way and not toward school or books. I lived with them at the time so their reasoning for using these funds was that I was not paying rent by living with them.

Fast-forward 5 years (2017), I am going to buy my first house and find out something is wrong with my credit. I was using Credit Karma and had a decent score around 745. Shortly after, I find out that it is because I owe $55,000 in benefits that I have to pay back.

In 2017, my veteran parent failed his PT tests due to his ankle and was discharged/separated with a general "unfit for service" code. Since then, he has gone back to the doctor and "proved" that he is considered to be 60% "medically disabled". He now receives compensation benefits because of this change in his eligibility for disability benefits. When trying to adjust his separation code to reflect this, the Board of the Air Force denied this request.

Because of his general code status and leaving the service 1 month short of the contracted time frame, he is considered to have NOT been eligible to gift my education benefits in the first place. If he was separated with a medical code even though he did not meet the contracted time frame, he would have still been eligible for receiving education benefits and I would not owe anything.

When contacting the Department of Veterans Affairs, I was denied a repeal because I attain attained by degree with the help of Federal loans- to which I still have not been able to get a job with-. Their reason for denial stated that I should be able to afford paying back the money, because I am young and have a degree. Even after they reviewed my expenses and saw that I was only breaking even.

Shortly after, I had made plans to contact them in the morning before work. After missing a call from an out-of-state number (which I do not normally answer) at 6am, I was sent to collections. When I finally was able to call a couple hours later, I was told by many representatives that it was out of their hands and I had been sent to collections due to being "unable to set up a payment plan" because I missed this call at 6am. Calling the Department of Treasury, I was informed that I now owed ~$72,000 instead of the $55,000 because it was now in their hands and they tacked on a 30% fee.

They offered me only one repayment option: $2,000/month (which is fiscally impossible- again they have already seen a breakdown on my expenses). When I asked about making smaller payments, the representatives informed me that by doing so, it would not stop the debt from going to a 3rd party collections company nor stop eventual 15% wage garnishment, but "it looked good" if I were to do so.

I have been dealing with this for 2 years now.

I have tried working with my veteran parent to resolve the issue, but initially was not able to get a hold of him. He moved around for some time and is potentially unstable. Over the years he would send me 15-30 text messages in a row having conversations with himself at various hours of the day and night. This led me to believe he was heavily intoxicated during him messaging me. After convincing him to submit a repeal for his discharge code, I wanted to check the status. I was unable to inquire about his open affairs in the military. This made me very uneasy because I already did not trust him to be diligent, let alone actually working to help me with this. Finally, I was able to get him on the phone and he agreed to meet me so he could sign some paperwork giving me permission to inquire into his request for repeal.

His request for repeal was denied and since then this is where it has stayed. My mother (whom I am estranged with) and veteran parent have zero incentive to help me. Meanwhile, he receives his medical benefits and I am stuck with paying off my student loans on top of this surprise massive debt of $72k.

The Department of Treasury has since garnished my tax return ($1,600) and the 3rd party collections agency that now has my information contacted me to request payments (again with the threat of wage garnishment). After speaking to the rep on the phone I made a good faith payment of $150 in attempt to prevent wage garnishment.

I did not even get use the full amount of these benefits to pay for school and had to take out several more loans just to afford school. I would have been willing to make reasonable payments on the debt to avoid all of this while exploring ways to get this rectified. But instead, I was faced with completely unrealistic payments and forced to be sent to collections.

Not only did my parents use the majority of these funds gifted to me, but my veteran parent who failed to complete his agreement with the military is now receiving benefits for being considered disabled and I am the only one being harassed by the federal government due to my parent's decisions and they could care less- this is an absolute nightmare! All the VA reps I have spoken with offer zero help. Today I submitted several case overview applications to lawyers in my area. I am waiting to hear back from them. Does anyone think a lawyer could even help me?

    Thank you for your time.

My brother [28/Texas] possibly got an ex coworker pregnant [20s/New Mexico]. Not 100% sure it’s his, can he legally request a prenatal paternity test?

Hopefully this follows the rules. Didn't see anything like this in the megathreads.

Pregnant chick lives in New Mexico. Brother lives in Texas.

My brother had a one night stand with an ex coworker on New Years. He moved back home to Texas in late March. Girl texts him she is pregnant and it's his. Yes she is really pregnant, he's seen the positive tests, sonograms & seen her in person since. She's due in Oct.

She decided to keep it, wanted to get together and try and be a family but my brother did not want to pursue a relationship with her but said he would absolutely step up not just financially but be in the kids life as well. He has always wanted kids, just didn't think it'd happen like this. Now he's not 100% sure it's his, but he seems to believe the girl. He told her he would not sign the birth certificate until a DNA test was performed right after birth to which she got upset and offended at.

We are worried he may get screwed by her. She went off on him for a while when he told her he did not want to be with her romantically. He was scared she would hold a grudge and use that to keep the kid from him. So he has been playing nice. They're not together but he is keeping it civil with her. They only communicate through text.

2 weekends ago she had a gender reveal party. He made the trip to New Mexico from Texas to attend. We advised against it but his reasoning was to keep it civil with her and her family. (BTW her parents are okay with the situation and initially told him he did not have to be apart of the baby's life. Not even $$$. Basically gave him a chance to cut all ties and run. The girl told him the same thing as well.) He also plans to attend the baby shower & delivery if possible. Will the courts see this as him accepting responsibility for the child?

Our family is very skeptical of the whole thing. My question is what if she lists him as the father but the DNA proves otherwise? I've heard whoever is on the birth certificate will be on the hook regardless of DNA. We're worried this could happen if he doesn't make it to the delivery. We're all kind of holding our breath to see if this girl turns out to be vindictive or cooperative.

Is there any way he can legally request a prenatal paternity test?

Also, I'm assuming since the mother (and child) live in NM that those laws will apply correct?

Two upper level managers agreed not to hire each others employees. VT

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 01:24 PM PDT

Specialty labor pool, limited number of jobs, small state.

They agreed to block each other's employees from hire because "it drives our costs up when employees move around. "

I'm one of the employees that may be blocked by this. Manager told me about her "deal" not knowing I've been approached by the other entity.

I'm being vague for my own protection. This has the potential to effect hundreds of people.

Is this legal? There are no non-compete agreements on the part of the employees with either corporation.
