Looking for a bit of help

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:36 PM PDT

Hello, I've been lurking for a bit but never had an account.

    Location: Ohio. Dayton area.

I want to start a new cleaning business in my area including pressure washing because the competition is relatively low. I'm 17 right now and want to start the company as an single member L.L.C disregarded entity. My question is since I'm 17 and not 18 does my parent have to be in the LLC so I can get a bank account, or can they just sign off on the bank account and not be required to be a member of the LLC, as going that route will make it a partnership in regards of tax. it seems to be even more paperwork for that. I've made a mock-up organization article and operation already and have not filed anything with the state yet I'm just interested in how it would work.

Startup costs are already accounted for.

With that it is my understanding taxes would be paid for

Federal Income Tax State Income Tax Medicare Tax Social Security Tax City Income Tax ( city were business is located )

Where would sales tax for my services collected go into account here. Does it also get filed with the state and when does the sale tax have to be filed.

Any resources or help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for a specific email service

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 10:22 PM PDT

Something that would let me have multiple email addresses but gives me master access in one spot. Ideally all the different emails are separated as if they are different folders and I can allow/ block access to specific email addresses to different people. This is to separate different departments, but some departments all too small and so I will oversee them all.

Huge bonus if there is an iphone app, but just mobile friendly is fine.

    Idea worth exploring?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 10:25 PM PDT

Many of you are business owners, so I'm wondering if this would be something you'd ever consider or buy into.

I was thinking of cold calling small businesses in my area and seeing how much they would pay me for every new customer I got them.

With that being said, would this be something any of you would ever agree too?

If so, what's a reasonable price? Should I go for a percentage of the sale? Fixed price? How much would you be willing to pay and what business are you in?

How to write up Terms and Conditions?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:13 PM PDT

It's for the website and I'm not sure where to start. Is it ethical to copy and paste from another business in the same exact industry and just edit some of the details?

    Another Trademark story

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:09 PM PDT

So have a trademark that I've had for several years. It's a two concatenation of two words. So very recently a law enforcement agency decided to use the name in a interdiction.

I mean no one would have Operation IBM or Operation Dell. Sure I'm a tiny company but they soiled my trademark.

I am just screwed? If some googled my company this will come up.

    YouTube baker trademark question

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:58 PM PDT

I have a YouTube baking channel where I share recipes and tutorials named "xx goodies". I came up with a product similar to cake pops that I want to trademark the name to. Can I register under my YouTube channel name "xx goodies" even though I never registered it as a DBA?

    Accounting Software

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:56 PM PDT

I am looking for suggestions for software for my new small business. The business is a self serve dog wash. We have tubs that accept cash, credit, debit. Think of it like a laundromat format but with dogs. So I'm not invoicing customers. I just need something to keep track of revenue and expenses and keep it all together so I can submit to my accountant. Something either on a PC, mobile or both would work. I have used Quickbooks in the past so that is an option but since I am not invoicing anyone I though something more simple might work.

    I am in Canada.

Best Way to Grow An Online Start-Up

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:39 PM PDT

Hey! First time poster in this subreddit (well first time really on Reddit), so sorry if I do break any rules to begin with!
Basically, myself and two mates are on the verge of launching an online store that is looking at bringing clothing, education, and conservation together. It sounds cliched and simple, but our goal is to utilise unique designs based on things such as Ancient History, Science, Outer Space, the Environment, etc. in order to inspire people to care more about the planet around them, and to get them more engaged with conservation, etc. Each design will be released alongside a short video where we go over some cool, quirky and interesting facts about the topic that are designed to get people interested in learning more.

We are just three blokes who have just finished Uni and are keen to create our own thing, but what would be the best way for us to properly reach our audience? We know that we are targeting a specific niche here, and our plan is to utilise social media, but what is the best way for us to really make ourselves known in that niche? What mediums should we look at, what sites should we target, and are there any case studies involving small online businesses that grew exponentially that we should look at studying?

Any help is always appreciated! Thanks

Starting a bar and need a ballpark of the average ROI for investors

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 07:07 PM PDT

Starting my first bar and at the stage where I'm asking for money. I'm having a really hard time finding what an appropriate percentage and length of time is to repay my investors (These investors would not have any equity in my bar).

I'm sure there's not one simple answer, but if anyone could ballpark me I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Should all 4 equal percentage owners get equal pay?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 11:43 AM PDT

We are a small business, and all 4 owners are also the only staff. 25% ownership each. All 4 of us are required to sell, and do some administrative tasks. We don't take a commission on sales, because some are better at selling than others... But those who aren't as strong in sales generally pull their weight in admin duties. So no problem.

At the end of the year, we all take equal pay home. (we pay ourselves out just once a year) We are all equal partners, so up until this point, we all have taken equal pay. Now here is where it gets tricky...

If ONE of those four partners has a slack year... Does MAYBE 8 or 9% of the overall sales, AND slacks on admin duties... How do we pay them? For the last 3 years in business it's been equal totally. 25% / 25% / 25% / 25% between four owners. But if someone simply isn't even TRYING, how do you pay them? Do they get less than everyone else? Do they still get the same? How do you even bring up the subject?

    What would YOU do?

What questions should I ask a business owner for my Youtube channel that interviews local small businesses

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 03:52 PM PDT

I'm a marketing consultant with a focus on Google and Facebook advertising. I have this idea that I want to go around my area and start interviewing local businesses. I want to keep it to a 10-15 minute segment and most importantly, keep it interesting. What kind of questions should I ask that would keep the show entertaining while being valuable to the viewers?

    Questions I have so far;

    • What's been your biggest success and failure in the business?
    • What motivated you to start this business?
    • Crazy customer stories you want to share?
    • How are you marketing yourself?

LLC or LLP for auto cleaning business

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 03:41 PM PDT

My business partner and I recently filed for a LLP (limited liability partnership) instead of a regular LLC for our mobile car detailing business because we wanted everything 50/50.

My question is should we of went the regular LLC route for a business like ours and are we at a greater risk without a traditional LLC?

    We are in Ohio btw.

Competitor told vendor to stop selling to us

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 11:24 AM PDT

    Looking for thoughts and advice.

Recently opened an apparel store. A competitor store reached out to our wholesale vendor and told them to stop selling to us because they carry same brand. Vendor agreed.

The thing is that I love the vendor's stuff, and it sells well. How would you go about this?

My longterm goal is obviously to regain the vendor, and have the vendor stop selling to THEM instead, but they have an established relationship yada yada that prevents such a move at the time.

    Any thoughts?

Any other self employed folk trying to use Turbotax to calculate quarterly taxes? I've got questions.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 03:04 PM PDT

So I've used Turbotax for years to calculate my quarterly taxes for my consultancy and just logged in to do so and it appears you are now unable to enter in your numbers manually to calculate deductions, etc, without using Quickbooks. I just got off the phone with the customer support and they were of no help. I don't use Quickbooks and don't want to, so I am unsure as to how best to do this. I can't really use the generic tax calculators to figure out an estimate of what I owe, as the ones I've seen don't let you factor in all the deductions (home office, utilities, vendor payments, etc). And I can't just use last years numbers as a guide as I've made more this year and my deductions/expenses differ. I am not sure how to do this on my own without hiring someone, which I'd like to avoid, as I prefer to do it myself. Anyone else experiencing this and have any suggestions?

Listing services that aren’t ready to be provided. Good idea or bad?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2019 02:59 PM PDT

I'm starting up a new cleaning business. I'd like to go from pressure washing to eventually residential or office cleaning as we have a cold winter and doing pressure washing in those months won't be feasible. I currently only have the supplies and resources for pressure washing.

I'm in the works of creating my website and listing our services. Would it be a good or bad idea to list out that I do residential and office cleaning as well? This way I can see the demand for it and just tell them that we currently are too busy and won't be available for a while. Or is this a bad idea?

How important is the passion behind the product to a small business? If you find something lucrative, but that you’re not super interested in, is the drive for financial success alone enough to get you going?
