I inherited a small business but the last guy was a dumpster fire when handling bad reviews online.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 06:18 PM PDT

He kept leaving passive-aggressive comments as the owner of the business to negative reviews. It's honestly kind of pathetic. How do I contact Google that I'm the new owner and I want to remove my comments as the owner and basically, how do I transfer ownership of the business on Google to me?

I created a website that compares the privacy and security of online services, and I need your help

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 04:24 PM PDT

A little more than a year ago, I made this website that compares the privacy and security of online services. After getting a ton of feedback (especially on Reddit), I have made a lot of changes, and I'm looking for some feedback on the new site.

Anybody is free to use it, so I thought that I would share it here, and see what people think about it. It's called Secured.fyi, which is completely redesigned from the ground up, it took me a lot of time to do that.

Looking forward to hearing what you think.

As a business owner, what is the most stupid question you’ve been asked?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 02:19 PM PDT

    How do you reach customers?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 01:14 AM PDT

I run a small makeup company, where I manufacture eyeshadow, highlighter, blush, and lipstick is in the testing phase. I have a very small but extremely loyal customer base, and I know that if I reach more potential customers I will be successful.

The issue is that I have a VERY small advertising budget. I currently advertise through Instagram by paid ads, posts, and hashtags, but my budget for paid ads is pretty low. I don't use Facebook, although my brand does have a page that I needed to create to set up the advertising and I crosspost my IG posts there. My target market does not use Facebook as much as Instagram or Snapchat.

I am also sending packages to smaller influencers and Youtubers who focus on indie makeup brands as PR, but I can't afford to send out much product without being paid for it.

What are some other ways I can get my name out there? What do you do for your own businesses? I don't want to seem pushy and promoting myself too much, but I know that if people know I exist my sales will go up.

I feel like I can’t get any more clients Idk what I’m doing wrong help?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 06:45 AM PDT

I'm an esthetician and I do skincare, lashes and waxing out of a hair salon I rent a room. I live in a small city which is 30 minutes or so from a big city. People here are kinda cheap to be honest and don't really care or want to spend a lot on skincare stuff so it's hard to get clients and clients that would spend it don't wanna drive the 30+ minutes probably to get here when there's other places closer. Also I can't move locations right now but if I could I would!

Any tips on getting more clients and to make my business stand out from other people who do the same thing? I don't wanna do Groupon, I've been doing Facebook ads but I've only gotten like 3-4 clients out of those and like 1 repeat client. I have gotten a few people from Instagram but not many either some of them also only come when I do discounts so not on a regular repeated basis. I don't wanna give up as I love what I do but I really need to up my clientele numbers. Throw me all the best tips you guys got! Thanks in advance!

Can I sell my online business? As it is?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 05:22 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I have a very hypothetical question or situation.

For last 6 years i created and managed my own online business. It is my only job and i pay my life in NYC with that online business. I have my own web, my store on Etsy and lot of truly hard work done. Long list of customers etc etc. I have more than 500 products on my stores, but i have around 1000 more on stock, ready for being on the store. I sell vintage items, mainly jewelry and small home decor antiques and collectibles. My business has 99% of reviews with 5 stars. So, i believe it is a good business.

My question is, CAN I SELL MY BUSINESS? Like, someone ask me i want buy your business as it is and i sell the whole stuff, all items listed and all items i have in stock, all my photos, info, customers mailing list, Social media profiles related to the business, etc. All that, can be sold for some $$$ ????

How does professional liability insurance work for multiple LLCs in a parent-subsidiary relationship?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 10:09 PM PDT

I currently have an LLC (LLC1) and have professional liability and errors and omissions insurance policies in place for it. I want create two more LLCs (LLC2 and LLC3) that are linked to LLC1.

LLC2 would become the parent company and LLC1 and LLC3 would be subsidiaries of LLC2. All three LLCs would provide similar consulting services.

What, if any protection/coverage would my current insurance policies for LLC1 provide for LLC2 and LLC3? Do I need new, separate policies for each new LLC?

I am very confused as to how this works and would be very appreciative of any guidance with this.

    Working capital

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 02:10 PM PDT

I run a small warehouse labor service that services big names like amazon, Walmart, target and a lot of small 3pl's

I have net 7 and net 10 with most of them but I'm struggling to still have them pay me on time. I offer a discount for early payment and a penalty for late payment.

My credit is way to messed up from my first two small business failures to get a loan.

I end up doing payroll out of pocket every week. What can I do to have working capital to cover payroll?

Anybody add their DBA to their business bank account?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 11:09 AM PDT

I accidentally let a customer write a check for some merchandise (I usually only take cash, cards or online payments) and then made it worse by letting them write my new DBA business name on it. As I started to go deposit the check I realized that was a problem, so for the last two weeks I've been trying to get the DBA added to the account name. Capitol One has been stringing me along, telling me one piece of documentation I need each time I go into the branch, and I'm getting really annoyed. Now that I think I know all the documentation requirements, it sounds like practically opening a new account. (The branch that I opened the account with was closed a few years ago, and the other branches seem to "need" to move it over to being their property or some such thing.)

After all the runaround and since I apparently need ALL of my business documentation, I figure I may as well open a new account - with a different bank, and drop CapOne. Just curious if anybody else has found it this hard to add a DBA to a business account?

    Quality Control

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 03:47 PM PDT

Hey all! I am looking to private label a niche skincare product here in the US and plan on using an American company to manufacture my product(s). As I am new to this form of venture, I have been doing a ton of research on the whole process. One thing I've heard echoed is that it's important to hire a quality control inspector before your product leaves the manufacturer (especially for products made overseas). Does anybody have resources for finding such an inspector? Google wasn't turning up anything that sounded like what I needed. I am very early in the start-up process but want to make sure I do as much right as possible when the time comes.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When should you hire a VP for small business?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 06:19 AM PDT

I recently inherited my grandfathers manufacturing company which does around $7-$10 million in revenue but has a low profit margin. My grandfathers only other management is an office manager and operations manager that handle mostly everything right now. My goal is to set up proper management to run and grow the company.

The rest of my family didn't want the business and insisted on selling it. I think it has potential to grow if the right professionals, who understand the industry, are in place. Looking at other similar companies online, it seems most of them have a VP that's running the company instead of just an operations/office managers. Would this be a good time to hire a VP? And how should I go about finding one?

How to standout in an acclerator program with only raw idea and plan (no revenue or operating years)?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 02:16 PM PDT

I am applying for a startup acclerator, the reason i am applying is obviously to get funds to implement my business plan/idea.

The startup acclerator has thier own application form in which some of the questions are "hw long has the business been running" & "what was your revenue in the previous year", and I can't feel help but feel like i will lag behind in this application because my business hasn't been implemeneted (for lack of funds).

How do i overshadow this obvious weakness that other startups probably that are applying can have thr advantage, in order to get a better chance at getting funds?

Any tip would be helpful thanks

Best place to sell HTML5 Games?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 12:56 PM PDT

    Hi

I have 2 HTML5 games I'm looking to sell. both are unique browser games, with loads of features. They get around 1-2k page views daily. The games have a decent audience, and with their current game mechanics, they have a very high chance of succeeding.

I don't know where to begin on selling these. There's over 3-5 months of time put into each game. Can someone guide me into the right direction? Thank you in advance!

(talking about selling the project[s] as a whole to new owner[s])

Measuring the potential of an area or growth, client potentials of an area or city? First steps?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 10:31 AM PDT

I remember my uncle using sites like wikipedia to research a potential spot to open his bakery.

I've been trying to find a good guide, and instead of wikipedia, there are many considerations such as demographics and the like.

Where should we look first when trying to scope out an area?

Let's say I rent an inflatable jumping pad and want to find an area where I can pass out flyers, or an area where I can open up a shop, what should I do first?

    Online research strictly speaking

Has anyone started a company using a public agencies mentorship program for small business owners?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 07:57 AM PDT

I see our local electric and train subway company has programs for businesses that have less than a million in revenue. The issue is that even they need you to have had a couple of major projects. It's basically catch22 I still see major general contractors gobbling up all the work.

What can be a way around this?

NC employee of a small business - feel like I'm being retaliated against for being out from the flu

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 07:42 AM PDT

*I'm not trying to gain any upper hand or anything, I just want to know if I should be worried.*

This is my throwaway. One of my jobs is as a key-holder for a small business in NC (20-ish employees). I ended up having too leave last Thursday for what I thought was a migraine. When I came in on Friday I ended up getting a fever and so nauseous that I had to leave after half of my shift and barely made it home before getting so sick that time seemed to fly by like a dream. I was able to call out Saturday before my shift but got a missed call from the owner and when I was awake enough to call her back she preceded to yell at me for calling out. I thought I was ready to go back Sunday but got so sick from driving I had to stop and dry-heave. I spoke with the main manager for the day and he told me he didn't want me there if I was running a fever and could barely move. I was off Monday and Tuesday and did an online doctors appointment (which I had to stop halfway through to "be sick." She told me not to go in until the "flu" (what she diagnosed me with) fever had been down for 24 hours. I went in yesterday and submitted my note (which said I would be out for a few more days) and did my best to make it through my shift.

The store manager (my boss) made it obvious that she was pissed off at me for being sick through showing favoritism, making me get up on ladders though it was obvious I shouldn't do anything where I could lose what balance I had, do manual work in the rain (something we are advised never to do) and after working past my shift wrote me up for a mistake I made that she and other managers make on a weekly basis - a mistake I have never made and woudn't have made if I weren't sick. Nothing dangerous, a paperwork mistake in a computer with no effect on anything with the business. I mistake that she has shared (long before this) with me she accidentally does once a month-ish.

Sorry for the long-windedness and typos; I still feel like shit and am about to go in.

I'm tried to look up if I have any protections under NC small business stuff to write down what is going on and try to talk to she and the owner.

    Thank you

How do you choose to carry over an expense on a project not done by end of year?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 07:30 AM PDT

How do you guys and gals carry over your cost of materials and subcontractors of a project that you don't finish until after the new year? I know it just adds to the cost basis of a project, but when working in TurboTax it just shows it as an expense for this year's taxes and I don't want to do that but I also want to show the dates the items were purchased or the people were paid.

I want to help other entrepreneurs

    Posted: 14 Jun 2019 02:18 AM PDT

I'm on a mission to help other entrepreneurs and business owners🚀

I've been an entrepreneur for 13 years and after I sold my company last year I decided to help others.

I have mentored a couple of entrepreneurs (that I connected with here on Reddit) for free and it has been awesome.

Besides mentoring 1 on 1 I've also started a YouTube channel where I share my experiences as an entrepreneur.

I'm also documenting my life as I'm starting a new business from scratch.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?🤔 Is watching YouTube something that you do?

Is it to be inspired or is it to learn specific things?

What kind of content would you like to watch and what would help you?

Your feedback is much appreciated 🙏🏼
