If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or other "advice for my personal situation" questions. If you are going to ask how to invest you should include relevant information, such as the following:

    • How old are you?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive significant other?
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • Any big debts?
    • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

[Hypothetical] let's assume you thought there would be a run on the dollar, assuming you're and average American Joe, how would you protect yourself/profit?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 11:39 PM PDT

Hypothetical scenario. (The scenario isn't really important, just the outcome)

Recession hits in 2020, it's global and it's a bad one. The FED slashes interest rates and runs the deficit up even higher for very marginal return.

Nobody wants to/can lend the US money. Global trade has slumped, demand for dollars is already very low.

The Fed is forced to print dollars.

Cue a mass sell-off of US dollars overseas.

    The dollar is plummeting.

How would you profit in this scenario?

EDIT: If your answer is "that would never happen, because.....", Then you don't understand how hypotheticals works.

EDIT2: If your answer is "Just short the dollar", that's also not helpful.

How did WeWork’s Adam Neumann turn office space with “community” into a $47 billion company?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 04:34 PM PDT

I thought this article was an interesting dive into WeWork's business model. It talks about past companies that have tried similar stuff a bit too. I was surprised at how "culty" the office culture at WeWork is.

Will do my yearly stock rebalancing in August, should I instead just sell everything and get the same ratios of stocks Warren Buffett has?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 01:16 AM PDT

August 2018 -> now has been a bit rough.

That's the date I first started investing in the below ratios:

    APPL - 20% GOOGL - 15% AMZN - 20% VOO - 25% VWO - 15% TSE: WEED - 5%

I would have thought I would have received some profit, but the 2 rough patches we've gone through kind of made me feel my selections were not optimal. Especially November 2018 where I was USD -11,000

I've been investing monthly USD 1,000 no matter what the market showed, as that's what the long-term investor does (planning to stick 20 years).

But then I thought, wouldn't it be smarter to just take Warren's top ten holdings in the same ratios?

    BAC - 31% WFC - 14% KO - 14% KHC - 11% AAPL - 9% AXP - 5% SIRI - 5% USB - 5% BK - 3% GM - 3%

Then just hold this / mimic whatever Berkshire does?

Anyone tried to mimic whatever he does?

Stupid question about stock ownership and voting rights

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 03:40 AM PDT

Hypothetically speaking, I bought some stocks on company A. I bought stock consistently over a very long period time that without knowing, my stock ownership has reached lets say 10% of the company's stock. Does it automatically grant me a voting right? Will the company notice that someone has accumulated 10% of their stock over a period of time?

Sell mutual funds for vanguard indexes?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 07:48 PM PDT

I currently have a small ROTH IRA that is the result of a few 401ks that had to be rolled out of retirement plans. I've never hit the yearly max and this is my first year having it. I have 3 funds, in an extremely aggressive stance portfolio as I'm 25 at the moment (SCHF, SCHX, SCHA from Schwab) however I'm learning more and more that vanguard is the way to go.

Should I sell all my SCH mutual funds to trade for VTSAX, VTIAX, VBTLX? I'm looking for a 70/20/10 split on vanguard and I have a high risk tolerance since I'm only 25.

I'm looking to max out my ROTH contributions yearly from now on.

Is this something that's a good idea or not?

    Opinions on MasterCraft? (MCFT)

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 03:11 AM PDT

Stock seems very undervalued, especially since the company is growing. They will be hit hard if there is a recession but still, what am I missing here? Even factoring in that risk it seems undervalued.

Looking for some opinions , currently have about 5000 ; down about 500$. I’m invested in skt, nio, momo and aph. I know these will bounce in the short term once the trade war eases. Although if the trade war does not end I will be in trouble.

Can there be a recession if most Americans changed their investing targets?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 04:47 AM PDT

As I understand it, many (how can I find this statistic?) Americans now invest every month in index funds mostly sp500 or other vanguard popular ones through 401 or other vehicles.

If that wasn't the case during other market crashes maybe this is something that can change the game and so a full blown recession never hits because as I understand you can't panic sell these investments.

How big is this % of the market you think?

Using seperate browser for all the broker / stock stuff?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 02:11 AM PDT

    Hello /r/investing,

I am pretty new to stocks and I found myself ending up with so many tabs open due research and keeping track of certain stocks, that it can get messy with all the other not investing-related tabs.

Now I thought, why not use a seperate browser (like Fireox) just for the investing stuff. Does it sound like a good idea to you? How do you mange your stuff? I guess you also have certain tabs open all the time?

How does a falling stock price hurt a company?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 05:03 AM PDT

Company has already recieved the share amount, shares are just being exchanged by investors so what will be the effect on Company other than the valuation? The company will just need to sell more shares now to get the same amount they could get earlier?

    Am I missing something?

Considering Interactive Brokers to pick up Overseas Buy & Hold Dividend Stocks- What's your impression?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 01:49 AM PDT

I'm dividend oriented investor, who has had a good experience with Fidelity for US investing, but I'm looking to increase my foreign exposure, and their international fees are rich enough to discourage me from getting sufficient overseas diversification. (E.g. $50 transaction fee for some overseas non ADRs, 1% fee on incoming dividends)

IB seems like the top dog for international trading, but their dormancy fees make me wary of plowing money in, especially as I don't know if there's other hidden/non obvious costs I'd be seeing.

From a cursory analysis, all the fees on fidelity are make me consider a sane tradeoff point to start piling new investment dollars into IB, but I'd like to sanity check other's experiences, given the small fry balance fees I'd be facing, until I can funnel new money to hit a 100k balance. For context, I'd be funding up from income and a small set of positions I'd intentionally divest, to hit 100k over 2-3 years, to cover their dormancy fee minimum.

In practice what kind of fees (if any other than foreign taxes) would an investor on small lots ($3000-5000 USD ) see on their dividends for stocks invested in overseas markets?

I've seen trading fees for particular markets with IB, but not clear if there's any fees while holding a dividend producing stock, akin to charges fidelity does there, and don't want to be caught by surprise with that sort of thing.

For retail investors doing int'l stock investing(esp. dividend producing stocks), what has your experience with IB been like? Anything someone might find surprising?

    Rent or buy??

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 07:25 PM PDT

I'm in Fairfield county Ct and I can't decide to buy or rent. Prices in the towns I'm looking at are getting crushed. Projected YoY for a 3-4% decrease and I could see even larger decrease. I have a budget of about 800k. With 20-25% down. I'm debating renting a house for $4000 for the next two yrs(lease term) or should I find something to buy? The state of Ct is in financial ruin and people are fleeing(40k people leave a yr) I have a feeling over two years that prices will fall even more. What advice do you have???

So, is CRWD the new BYND due to low float?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 10:44 PM PDT

Missed the BYND train, but CRWD ipo'ed yesterday. Wondering if it has the potential to be the new BYND?

BYND has been the new TLRY. low float, massive spikes and short squeezes.

Heard CRWD also has a low float? It skyrocketed 70% on first day, just like BYND. Over-subscribed af. So is it going to be the new BYND? Should I jump into it before it takes off?

Recently sold business for 1m....need help.

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 06:38 PM PDT

Throwaway account and cross posting to r/personalfinance. I have read the "what to do with a windfall" materials.

I am a 27 year old, single male living in America. No debt. No significant assets. Working on another startup to re-establish income.

In late 2018, I sold my business for $1m. After taxes paid, I have a total net worth of about 1.1m. I currently have nearly all of the funds with Schwab sitting in a money market (SWVXX) paying about 2.5%. About 100k in US total market.

The question I keep going around and around on is, do I...

    1. Invest funds into the market now. 3/4 into total US stock market and 1/4 into international markets.
    2. Dollar cost average the funds over the next 12-18 months into the mix mentioned above
    3. Drop the funds into safer investments (bonds and money markets) and wait for this impending recession to hit and buy near or at the bottom of the market

I fear buying at the top of the market and listening to every news story about how a recessions is looming closer.

The more research I do, the more lost I become because of conflicting opinions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
