Went in to AAA for a travel book, left with my vacation paid for in full Posted: 30 May 2019 04:20 PM PDT I've been a loyal American Family customer for well over 20 years. Ever since I turned 16 and Grandma gave me her '84 Cadillac Brougham (damn, I wish I still had that car!) I've been insured with AmFam. Basically, 20 years. Today, we have 2 houses, 3 cars and a life policy through them. Well, that is up until today... I went into our local AAA office to pick up some travel info on Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We're headed down there next week. While in there waiting for the agent to retrieve it the insurance agent (this office has insurance/travel services) and I get to talking about the St. Louis Blues (since I'm wearing my Blues shirt today). He's a chill guy, so I say "what can you save me?" and he spends about 30 minutes talking and typing in information as we shoot the breeze. He immediately says he will cut our auto insurance in half -- we were paying $1,300 every 3 months for full coverage on 2 Hyundai Sonata's and a RAM 2500 4x4. He lowers that to $640 -- all the coverage the same, and even upped our underinsured coverage. That is $1,200 per year saved. Immediately. Next, he starts working on the houses. First one, *bam* $400 saved per year - all the same coverage. At this point - without even touching the 2nd house yet -- we have paid for our trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (10 days, flight and hotel - $1670). I'm about ready to fall off my chair. Second house he says will take some work because we do Airbnb/VRBO on it -- I tell him no worry man, you already got our business no matter what! I can't believe being a loyal customer to AmFam all these years was doing nothing but screwing me out of money. I couldn't even get the damn agent on the phone most of the time when I did want to talk with her! Told my partner our vacation is covered; he immediately suggests we take a fall trip (we've been to Puerto Vallarta about a dozen times now -- we love it). I'm down with that. Thank you AAA and while we are knocking back tequila I'll be throwing back a few for you! Bonus: The agent is *hot* -- WOOF! TL;DR - Been a loyal customer to AmFam for 20 years; loyalty gets you screwed; switched to AAA insurance saved enough money on 4 out of 5 policies to pay for our trip to Mexico next week. God bless America for insurance! Posted: 30 May 2019 12:29 PM PDT I went into the ER for a small laceration about a month back. I went to pay the bill yesterday. The "financial advocate" with the hospital I went into confirmed with me that, had I claimed to have no insurance coverage, I would have saved $200+ dollars on the cost of my visit (my final cost, after their full pay discount, was about $1,000). Soooo I am paying premiums for a high-deductible policy (I could really only afford a high-deductible policy, courtesy of student loans) and it has cost me more money to receive medical care than if I didn't. Anyone else have experience like this? [link] [comments] |
Question about caregiver reimbursement for long term care Posted: 31 May 2019 02:25 AM PDT Here is a hypothetical: somebody has a live in caregiver who is reimbursed at 100 percent. To get reimbursed, does the insurance holder submit a check proving they paid the caregiver $X in wages for pay period along with the caregiver's time card; or do they merely submit a time card staring the number of hours worked and wages owed for that pay period? Young (25F) Licensed Property & Casualty agent looking for guidance. (PA) Posted: 30 May 2019 01:45 PM PDT As the title states. I am a young professional looking to spread my wings from my brokerage. I've had some encouraging words from a user on here, and I decided to pursue the industry. They put me on track for what to aim for- now I am facing some interviews. And I need some insight. I have been in an admin/DNOC billing role for the last two years. Licensed for one. I have not been an "acting" agent servicing accounts. I do handle them to some extent, auto ID cards, billing assistance, etc. I know I am small fries with hardly any experience. I am educated, I am licensed, and I do have a kick ass personality. I do not have a clue on what companies are reputable, who to avoid, what to avoid, etc. I do know I want to pursue CL, and start off as a junior underwriter, underwriter assistant, and climb the rungs from there until I hit business development or marketing. Tldr: going for interviews, want to make sure that I am pursuing the right positions and companies. [link] [comments] |
Working at Chubb in Underwriting? Posted: 30 May 2019 05:48 PM PDT Hello, Currently I work at a large auto insurer in claims, and I can say I'm not that big of a fan of the antagonist nature of claims and getting smothered in new losses everyday. However, I do like insurance and feel like UW would better suit me. I've shadowed some people at my current company and it seems like it's for me. However, the pay is horrendous as my auto insurer does not value there UW much. I also want to get out of auto and move to commercial, hence my application to Chubb. I have an interview next week for UW Account Rep and was wondering if anyone had any insights on salary, responsibility, or experience at that position? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2019 04:01 PM PDT Title basically explains my situation. I got laid off a couple weeks ago and I have to get periodontal surgery next week. I originally assumed I'd have to pay $600 a month for COBRA insurance before I get another job (hopefully in July) but the dental portion of that is only like $30. The code for for the procedure I'm getting is D4273 and as far I can tell it's only dental. I can check with the doctor/insurance but I was curious if anyone on here happened to know. The COBRA Is retroactive for 60 days so my plan was to only pay for the health/vision if I ended up needing it. It'd also be helpful to know if this is doable and I do just get dental if I am able to get regular health coverage at a later date through COBRA if I needed it after only electing to get dental. Also if it helps any its Insurance with Cigna Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Homeowners insurance + lower deductible personal property policy? Posted: 30 May 2019 07:07 PM PDT Is this a thing? I work for a major insurance company (used to work in the claims department) so I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something. Basically, I'm in the process of buying a house and my major qualm is with the deductibles. Right now, I have both deductibles set at 1% (roughly $2500) and this means that someone could break into my house and steal $2499 worth of stuff and I'm simply out of luck. What I'm looking for is a separate policy (similar to renters insurance) where I can cover personal property by itself with a lower deductible (e.g., $500, $1000). My thinking is that contractually, the HO policy will be my primary coverage; therefore I wouldn't be able to have coverage for additional personal property unless I exceeded the personal property limits of the HO policy. Are there any loopholes, riders/endorsements, or anything else I'm overlooking that may fit this use case? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2019 09:52 PM PDT So I'm on medicaid in Virginia, specifically through United Healthcare, and earlier this year, I went to my doctor after getting my medicaid insurance in order and got my prescription for my ADHD -- Desoxyn, which I've been using since 2013 or 2014. In January, they covered it and it got filled, I thought all was good. Come last month, I went in for a med check, got my prescription, brought it to the pharmacy, and figured all was good. Nope. Not only did they require "prior authorisation", meaning I had to submit to a mouth swab, which was no big deal, but after that, they sent me a letter saying that they are not approving it because "the request does not meet the established medical necessity criteria or guidelines at this time" and below referred to the DSMD V and how my doctor did not use the manual because this medication is apparently given to patients who have tried and failed at least 2 medicines and it detailed the preferred medicnes being Adderall XR, amphetamine salts, (same damn thing) dextroamphetamine, (I assume this is dexedrine) Vyvanse, and Vyvanse Chewable (lol?) I have tried all ADHD medications except dexedrine since I was like 7 years old. I figured this was just an issue of someone not having all the information. My doctor's office called to inform me of the same thing, and apparently I had listed in my visit in January, which, at the time, I was considered a new patient since I hadn't visited for a year due to not having health coverage. So I told the receptionist that I had been on adderall and vyvanse prescribed by that office's doctor's, and she told my my doctor would review my charts and hopefully clear things out. Fast forward today, I got yet another letter saying that they're not approving it because it's not on the list of "preferred medications" and that the request does not meed the medical necessity criteria. What?! They approved it in January, what's different now?! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 May 2019 09:12 PM PDT A driver hit me about two months ago while turning into me as a light turned green (she was on a left-turning lane, I was on straight lane, she decided at the last second to merge onto straight moving lane). She accepted responsibility and her insurance company was quick to accept fault (Grange). Snapped some photos and they sent me a check for the repair cost and a preliminary estimate to give to the body shop. I dropped off the car to the body shop two weeks later, they did the repairs and completed it two weeks ago. They have updated me as to the status of the payout and they said they sent a final invoice to the insurance company two weeks ago and they have yet to receive a response from the adjuster (there is an additional $1.5k difference between what they cut the check to me for and the body shop's cost). For about 30 days now, I have been in a rental car, for which it is now about 10 days too long to be in it. Fortunately, the owner of the shop said they legally have to keep me in the car until they are paid for the repairs. I just want my car back. I have left multiple messages to the claims adjuster and speaking to their department only led me to relaying a message to the adjuster by way of whoever was available to answer the phone that day. What should be my steps going forward to get this moving along? Thank you in advance for the responses! For the sake of clarity, I am located in VA, their insurance is based in OH. Car insurance without a car, any idea how to get one? Posted: 30 May 2019 09:03 PM PDT Hey everyone, I didn't own a car for the last 8 years so I didn't have an insurance. I just moved to Columbus, OH and went to a few dealerships to try some cars, BUT they refuse to let me drive. They say you need a comprehensive insurance to drive one. I did my research and found something called "non-owner insurance" but they wouldn't take it. So did anyone have a similar situation? note: not all refuse to let me drive, but the majority did. Car accident PIP only covers 1/2 wage loss, other party at fault. A few questions. (Oregon) Posted: 30 May 2019 09:27 AM PDT I was in an accident and the other party was at fault. It took the other insurance a while to accept fault (as expected). My PIP limit only covered about 1/2 of my actual lost income. I did not yet cash the check from my insurance. Now that the other insurance has accepted fault, are they required to cut me a check for lost wages? If so, then 1: I assume I can cancel the check form my PIP and have the other insurance send me a check for the correct amount. Or 2: Cash the check I already have and have them write me a check to cover the difference. Or 3: Do I have to wait and have that difference be part of the pain and suffering settlement? If both 1 and 2 are options, then 1 appears to be an easier process to get the check from the other insurance with less work and wait time. Never been in an accident with lost wages before. Any input would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
By-law coverage? My Insurance adjuster declined additional coverage.. IS HE RIGHT? Posted: 30 May 2019 02:24 PM PDT Words from my insurance adjuster: "I reached out to the insurance company to discuss this additional cost. From review of the policy with this property, there is no building by-law coverage in force for it. This additional sewer and water charge appears to be due to a by-law issue, and as a result, insurance company is unable to consider payment if it under the claim. They will only be able to pay the initial approved demo cost for removal of the building." Now my adjuster has approved a demolition budget, but in order for me to demolish the city is requiring me to cap/disconnect the proper sewer water and waste from their main. It's quite an unexpected cost.. From 2 different companies the quotes are actually higher than the cost of demolishing the building. Regardless, I did some googling and a by-law coverage (which I don't have) covers any changes or new by-laws set in place. If this by-law is already in place, shouldn't my insurance company cover the cost of the tear-down and the disconnection of sewer, water, and waste from the City's main? Can I rebuttal this decision? House was built in early 1910. [link] [comments] |
Since when deductible is introduced in insurance industry? Posted: 30 May 2019 06:53 PM PDT So I get that the rational behind deductible, I get it. But I am curious since when deductible has been introduced in industry? I would guess it is relatively recent (within 20-30 years) since my grand father used to tell me there was no something called deductible. If so, I am asking how redditors in this community thinks about this; if a consumer didn't really use insurance program, (i.e: too healthy to see doctor), shouldn't the insurance company pay it back for the insurance premium as part of returned service?? Like we buy a service, and we can request return if the service is not what it was supposed to function albeit it is very general. Yes, I do understand that if something unfortunate really happens to use insurance, then yes, it goes with deductible and the no return policy because the service is now being used. The insurance industry might argue that the insurance covers the uncertainty, but that uncertainty is covered by "Deductible" with insurance kicking in if certain conditions are met and if that unfortunate uncertainty becomes reality. But if that uncertainty does not happen (fortunately), then what is the premium for? Additionally, consumers lose opportunity costs that could have been saved or invested otherwise by paying the premium while the insurance industry makes money out of it in the form of investment or re-selling insurance. So I am not here to pick up a fight or something, but genuinely interested in how others think about this issue? TLDS; if a consumer does not use insurance at all, then shouldn't the consumer be entitled for refund as part of deductible rational? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Reporting insurance fraud - help needed Posted: 30 May 2019 11:11 AM PDT I have reported someone a couple times for insurance fraud. However, she continues filing fraudulent claims, and says they're paying out (and it looks like they are). Besides being illegal and immoral, it just pisses me off. People like this hurt everyone else. She does it with homeowners and auto insurance, plus currently has 2 lawsuits for car accidents. She wasn't actually hurt, not anywhere near as seriously as she claims more specifically, texting and driving, not wearing a seat belt. Is there anything else I can do? I reported it to the insurance bureau, IIRC. I'm really sick of her defrauding people, and having no issue with doing so. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2019 04:01 PM PDT North Carolina. On April 10th of this year I got sideswiped by another car. Her insurance assumes liability since she was declared at fault. Fast forward to a week ago. Her insurance(Geico) finally called it a total loss. However, her policy does not cover that much in property damage. So I had to get my insurance company involved. They now say the car is repairable and that the car will be down two more months. I'll be down 4 car payments and at least $2400 in rental fees. What are my options? [link] [comments] |
Knob & Tube Homeowner with insurance Posted: 30 May 2019 04:00 PM PDT I've owned my home for 5 years and have been insured throughout that time. About 4 yrs ago I moved cities and began to rent out the home and switched to a homeowners insurance for a rental. The house has knob and tube wiring, which is clearly visible in the basement. Recently I've read up on knob and tube and found out that homeowners have trouble getting insured with K&T. I never had an issue but I also can't remember ever disclosing the info to insurers. I want to make sure my insurance covers me in case of a fire due to K&T but I'm concerned they may cancel my insurance if I call and disclose now. If it is insured properly, I'd look to get the K&T replaced in 2ish years when I'm planning on moving back into the house, but if I lose insurance I'll have to tackle this immediately with a renter currently in the house. What's the best way to approach this with my insurance (Travelers/Geico)? [link] [comments] |
Family member is insured under car insurance but not me, can I still drive and be covered? Posted: 30 May 2019 03:56 PM PDT First time posting, pls go easy on me. I heard this from a friend who practices this and wasn't sure if this is viable or legal and wanted some feedback, we are also based in Canada btw. So basically, my friend's car is insured and their dad is the primary driver. Now my friend isn't under the insurance at all and still drives pretty often and they say that in the event of a crash they're still covered. Wanted to know if this is viable. Because obviously the more people you add under the insurance it goes up, so wouldn't everyone be doing this? [link] [comments] |
Tip to take Associate Risk Management Posted: 30 May 2019 09:46 AM PDT I want to study for the associate risk management ARM. I would like to know if the test is hard, do the practice test help or similar question as the actual question? If I buy the textbook and the practice test, will it good enough to pass each courses? Do I need other material or test simulator to help to pass the test? I don't have background and nor work experience. [link] [comments] |
Stolen Pontiac G8 insurance won’t fix, help! Posted: 30 May 2019 03:40 PM PDT Hi, I have a 2009 Pontiac G8. It was stolen and wrecked. Insurance company said due to it being 9+ years old the total cost of repair has to be the same amount of market value. They quoted the car was worth $18,000. Damages accumulated to $8,000. Okay, sure. However - due to the car being relatively rare they cannot find certain parts that were damaged. The tires, the rims, side+front trim. They said there's nothing they can do other than call it a "blemish" and take some money off the deductible. If they can't repair the car to its normal state, or find the parts - shouldn't they have to consider it totaled due to the amount of residual hit it would take in resale? They seem to be playing in a gray area- can I push back and make them total it due to the parts not being sourced? Any help appreciate! Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Geico is not letting me get a quote from another body shop for my vehicle.. Posted: 30 May 2019 03:18 PM PDT Long story short. I just installed cameras 3-4 days ago. Well 2 nights ago they had already paid for theirselves. My car got backed into by one of my neighbors friends and he left not knowing he hit it. And I wouldn't have caught it if I didn't get the cameras. But his insurance is through Geico and they told me to take my car to one of their adjusters for them to give me a quote on the damages. And they will write me a check for the damages. I asked if I can get quotes from other body shops as well and to take the average of the quotes. And they told me I could but it wouldn't change what they would pay out. They said they only payout what their adjusters think is right. Is this true? I always heard the rule of thumb is get 3 quotes and they take the average price and pay you for that. I am in Tennessee if that means anything. [link] [comments] |
Under the age of 18 and got into and accident Posted: 30 May 2019 03:18 PM PDT I live in Texas and I got into an accident exiting the highway. I was rear ended and now need to file a claim with insurance. Apparently people under the age of 18 cannot drive more than one non family member. I had 3 people non family members under the age of 18 in the car at the time. I have Geico. Online when filling out the claim it is asking for their information too. Guardian information and theirs too I think. 2 of the backseat passengers hit their head on the seat in front of them. One said their neck hurts. The impact was hard enough that my glasses flew off my face when I got hit from behind. If I put that all of them were in the car what would happen? I am not sure if some of their parents know about this and I don't think they want to tell them about it either. It is also asking for a phone number and one of them does not have a phone number and has strict parents. If I put that all of them were in the car at the time it would mean that I was driving more people than I should be. What am I supposed to put? [link] [comments] |
[Question - Insurance] Which ACA plan to pick (Tennessee) Posted: 30 May 2019 03:11 PM PDT I qualified for a special enrollment period and I have options of a few silver plans that I can pick between Bright Healthcare and Cigna. Bright seems to have a smaller network but some pretty straight forward policies. I have no idea what the difference is between silver and perks. I've heard mixed reviews on cigna, but the $26.00 plan looks to have good benefits and wider coverage than Bright. I have to enroll by tomorrow to get June 1 coverage and I really need it this coming month. I also will likely need a hernia surgery by the end of the year. Thoughts on which is the best? Thanks in advance! Here are the details on each: Bright Health · Silver - $21.88 /mthSilverMetal Level: Silver
$300Individual total Out-of-pocket maximum $1,500Individual total Copayments / Coinsurance
Bright Health · Silver Perks - $22.90 /mth
$200Individual total Out-of-pocket maximum $1,500Individual total Copayments / Coinsurance
Cigna Healthcare · Cigna Connect 150-4 - $26.00 /mth
Deductible $150Individual total Out-of-pocket maximum $1,400Individual total Copayments / Coinsurance
Cigna Healthcare · Cigna Connect 75-4 - $68.50 /mth (Probably out of my price range as I'm on a limited budget)

Can you insure a vehicle if your name isn’t on the title or registration? Posted: 30 May 2019 02:58 PM PDT Just leased a new vehicle and I'm the only name on the lease/registration. My previous vehicle had a shared title w/ myself and one of my parents, so I was able to get coverage under their multi-car policy (which made it much cheaper for me). The current insurance is through Liberty Mutual; however they won't let me put the new vehicle under my parents policy because they aren't on the lease. I've read some things that this policy may vary from company to company. This is in the state of Florida btw. [link] [comments] |
