    Correcting speech Sales and Selling

    Correcting speech

    Posted: 05 May 2019 06:12 AM PDT

I'm not sure where to post this so I'll throw it here. When I'm pitching something I tend to stutter or repeat words. For example, "basically" or "um" over and over. I can hear myself doing it and even though I do my best to stop I don't. Confidence isn't the issue, and I know what I'm talking about. However, I would rather sound more fluid with speech rather than a bunch of awkward pauses. It reminds me of when a program is trying to load and the icon keeps spinning. Annoys the shit out of me.

It doesn't always happen, sometimes I fucking kill it and everything is fluid. Any suggestions to get around this?

ADP vs N2WS (backup + recovery cloud solutions)

    Posted: 05 May 2019 05:25 AM PDT

Just graduated college and have some experience as a sales apprentice at ADP. Which route should I take if ny goal is to stay with the same company for long term success?

Is an inside sales SaaS position better than an outside sales Payroll position?

    Thanks!

Certificaions to boost my SAAS Software sales career ITIL or PMP

    Posted: 05 May 2019 07:52 AM PDT

I have been working for a Microsoft Gold Partner (ISV) in Connecticut selling Dynamics NAV/Dynamics 365 for 5 years now. I am top of my company far and away and making reasonable money.

I want a certification or something to boost my appeal internally but mostly with other partners and companies. I was considering ITIL or PMP.

Does anyone have any experience with these certifications? Did it make you more marketable or did you learn anything you can really apply to your job on a daily basis?

I already have Dynamics NAV (MB7-701) financials certificaions and MOS Office certificaions. I was looking for something more portable inside and out of the Microsoft community

    Whale Hunting

    Posted: 05 May 2019 11:54 AM PDT

I know books for "whale hunting" are not necessarily tried and true methods, mostly just for ideas or brainstorming.

But I was wondering does anyone have any good book recommendations for whale hunting?

How to determine if a quota is "fair"?

    Posted: 05 May 2019 11:11 AM PDT

I've been in sales since graduating college and have had a few different jobs in different industries and with totally different sales cycles. I'm curious what some of you sales professionals think about quota and how to determine if a quota is fair. At my last role, it was a quick sales cycle and goals reset every month. For sake of easy numbers my goal was 10 deals per month. Only about 20-30% of the sales team (roughly 80 field reps across the country) would hit this goal each month. A much smaller percent, maybe as low as 10%, would hit their annual goal. We were paid on a sliding commission structure with 6 deals being the minimum to get paid. If you hit 6-8 you'd make a little bit of commission, 9-10, you'd make a decent check, then 11-14 is where the real money is. So if you're a high performer you're going to go for the 12+ and this results in ebbs and flows month over month. Good month, bad month, good month, bad month, etc.

Anyway, in my opinion if only 20% of your sales team is hitting quota any given month, that is an unfair goal and it should be reevaluated by management. Instead this company doubled down and would put tons of pressure on the sales team which led to an incredibly high turnover rate....or a "turn and burn" sort of structure. What do you guys think about that?

Also, I left this job and when I would cite this as one of the reasons I left (unreasonable expectations from management) potential employers would not necessarily take it well. I get that in sales you should want to be the best and not worry about middle of the pack or low performers, but at some point there needs to be a reality check because numbers don't lie.

TL;DR: If only 20-30% of sales reps are hitting quota, is that a sales problem or a quota problem?

What is a fair commission structure for prefabricated building materials?

    Posted: 04 May 2019 09:06 PM PDT

I sell building materials that range between $200k-$5MM+ per project depending on the scope of work. Along with a healthy salary, I'm working out a commission structure for salespeople and would like some refreshing ideas on what might make sense. The salespeople will be selling materials required to build residential, commercial and industrial projects. What do you think about a commission percentage that shrinks or be is capped for larger deals like schools, hospitals, factories? Should I have them sell the projects for whatever they can negotiate instead of having a strong msrp?

    Sales Reporting Software/Tracking

    Posted: 04 May 2019 02:16 PM PDT

I have a fairly new team of 5 that are making outbound calls. Currently we're using Outreach and recording our deals as opportunities in it.

Outreach is great for cadences and dialing. But it lacks in reporting functions for those opportunities.

I know that I can add on Salesforce. But that's a ton of $$ for just reporting.

Any suggestions besides creating my own spreadsheets? I'm looking for (What I think would be the basics):

Win Rate; Avg Deal Size; Avg Sales Cycle; $ quoted ; $ closed; $lost.

I'm not looking to leave Outreach. Just to add something on for reporting.

Tips for effectively prospecting, and closing!

    Posted: 04 May 2019 12:10 PM PDT

Hi guys thanks in advance. This is my first job where I have to find my own leads soley. Every other job leads have been provided. And I am coming back into sales after about a year of working in marketing. I just got laid off. I'm desperate to make this work to say the least.

The job is simple, we sell profiles to businesses on our website. Then we market our site locally to get the businesses ,business. Like a local Groupon of sorts. For smaller businesses.

I have mostly been an inside phone rep. With limited outside experience but I'm not opposed to it. The pay is only commission. I have been emailing then calling to follow up on the email sent out. I want to start visiting stores but in an effective way. So my question for your great minds is how would you guys work your prospects in the most effective way? I want to close 5 a day.
