Patent analysis for stock analysis & identifying industry trends

    Dear good people of r/SecurityAnalysis,

Long time lurker, first post (on this sub, anyway ;)... ) I am working on a product by which gathering company, or industry intelligence can be automated through analysis of patent applications. There's a lot of 'real' information in patents which doesn't show up anywhere else, so the initial idea was that this type of analysis would help to easily identify industry trends, emerging technologies, significant new players in each segments, and what industries or technologies each company's betting on. That is, who's leading new emerging technologies and who's still investing in somewhat out-dated tech.

We've put together a demo output here on demo1.hindsights.io. The amount of outputs are a little limited for a demo, but obviously can be extended in almost any dimension.

Given your knowledge & enthusiasm in this area, it'd be great to get your feedback:

    1. Do you see this being useful for stock research?
    2. Do you use (or have you used) any kind of similar tools?
    3. Would you pay for a subscription service to something like this? (and how much?)
    4. Does this meet or solve any problems/frustrations you've previously had?

    Thank you so much.

    JP

X-posting as I was told this sub would be the most helpful.

    Sharing the Track

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 04:37 AM PDT

I've recently gotten into a position where I should be able to share the track record of the fund I work for. While I am not the PM, I share most of the investment and portfolio management responsibility. Now I am wondering whether anyone has experience in what needs to happen to share a track record? Is it enough to change title to 'Junior PM' to share the track? Please reply or direct message if you know how this is typically done.
