- Hello Everyone
Posted: 06 Apr 2019 03:02 PM PDT I am working on a presentation regarding these types of calls. It's sort of a 'knowledge is power' type of presentation to help small businesses know how to deal with these calls. Or, at least, to know why they can ignore them and what to do instead. Since my own small business is helping other small businesses with Search Engine Optimization, I get asked about these phone calls a lot. The calls could be robocalls, or perhaps they are real people. If you have any experience with these type of calls, I'd appreciate any feedback you wish to share. Specifically, what do they offer? And, how often do you get the phone calls? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Anyone have "low risk" steady type of business? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:02 PM PDT My mindset is always for low risk, low yet steady reward of investments. It is what I always have done in other things not business/money related. For example hair salons rent out a chair to each hair stylists. Owning a farm plot and renting out part of the land. Having a horse stable. These involve owning property which is expensive to own. Are there any business that have you requiring little capital. under 10k. And being the middle man or getting contractors to pay you upfront? [link] [comments] |
How to go about creating a local IT/data analyst company? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 12:04 AM PDT So, I have a lot of experience working in corporate analysis, but with this large company, much of the data intake was already set up. My primary job was data extraction, analysis, and process improvement. My skill set was very focused, so the idea of how small businesses obtain and review their data is foreign to me. My goal is to take my skills with SQL, Excel, and statistical analysis skills to help local business reduce process waste and increase revenue. I want to bring Big Data concepts to help improve local businesses. I'm looking to get advice from anyone that may be in the field or something similar on the following:
I know this is a lot, but I'm hoping that some generous soul out there has the time to help out. The corporate world wasn't too kind, and anything I can do to support my family, independent of that environment all while helping local businesses could be seriously life changing. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
How do you find and apply to government contracts? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 05:34 AM PDT I have a small tutoring business. I recently saw a shared post that another tutoring company offers free tutoring for military families. The company has a contract with the government to provide this service. My question is how does one go about finding and applying to these government contracts? [link] [comments] |
Licensing your product to a company as a merchandise Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:08 PM PDT Hey everyone! Has anyone tried to license their product as an official merchandise? I've come up with a product and have had sales with We've first thought that as gamers we wanted a personalized/custom lamp with our fave champs and characters on it. Do you know how to connect to people who can negotiate merchandise licensing? thank you so much! :D [link] [comments] |
$800 LLC tax payment for California, how to avoid? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 11:55 PM PDT I registered a few LLCs just to make sure if I got sued for some of my businesses I run, I would be protected. I didn't realize that each LLC has an $800 payment. Is there any way to get out of this? If I had known about this there's no way I would have registered so many LLCs on a whim. [link] [comments] |

Im not finishing jobs fast enough to meet payroll Posted: 06 Apr 2019 03:49 PM PDT Hi everyone! I have a small business, and this year I have taken on bigger jobs with a few employees. The payment terms are usually 50% down balance upon completion. But because the jobs have been bigger and have few employees and have been getting more work and to meet the demand of people wanting to start faster I have multiple customers on in a week. The jobs are taking a couple weeks so the back 50% isnt coming in fast enough to be able to pay myself and co owner after expenses. What should I do? Should I focus each job until Its finished to start the next one, if so how do I keep the customer happy when they want to start immediately? Should I use more progress invoicing, if so how do I make it not annoying for a customer to pay multiple times? Or something else altogether. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Credit Card Processing - Where to start? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 11:12 PM PDT I've read several posts on credit card processing and it appears super dependent on volume and transaction amount. I feel like I should be able to negotiate a good rate, but I don't even know who I should reach out to. We're currently with FirstData and after doing a bit of reading, I realized that we're on a Tiered structure at our company. We have 6 locations. Highest earning location is 800K-1MM per month. The rest are 300K-500K. I'm thinking of just contacting different payment processors, asking for their best interchange plus rate and running those numbers against our previous statements for the past year. Is that the correct strategy? Any help would be great! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2019 05:15 AM PDT We have a small LLC in North Carolina. Each year we must file an "annual report", which is nothing more than a statement that we are still in business. And, there is a $250 fee each year. This is separate from any state taxes we pay. Is this $250 annual fee similar in other states ? [link] [comments] |
I've got an interesting one I need help with Posted: 06 Apr 2019 09:17 PM PDT First off I hope this is an okay place to post this. I am looking for advice from other small business owners on what they think would be a good way to handle my issue. I am starting my first year managing a marina, where guests pay moorage and power by the night to tie their boats up on our docks. They are allowed to fill up drinking water tanks, use the wash house facilities, laundry machines, and grounds. It's all included in what they pay for in moorage. Of course, we are technically a public marina as it can't be private. So small dinghies and other watercraft will occasionally want to dock for an hour or two at a time. My problem is that the people that come by dinghy, who do not pay moorage, come and use our facilities. They make a mess of the washrooms with muddy feet (takes time out of my day to go and clean it or to send someone else), they steal water from the docks (we are on a well system and the summers are quite dry), they use the swings and ping pong table which is reserved for the use of our paying guests, they use the laundry facilities, and they let their dogs off leash without picking up after them, without ever spending a dime in the store or paying for moorage. Last year, the owners who manage the place tried to charge them $5 for a half hour, mostly to deter them from coming to our docks because we really don't want them. It was just a hassle to chase people down and police the docks that way. Am I wrong, should it not matter that much? Or is there a better way to deal with this than constantly watching out for people on dinghies and asking them for five dollars? [link] [comments] |

NC Sales and Use Tax for Service Business. Posted: 06 Apr 2019 10:34 AM PDT Anybody operating a service business in North Carolina? I just started my business in January, so I'm pretty new to this, and I can't find any good info online about how to set up the new tax system for quickbooks online for recording the different county tax rates. Just wondering if anyone has some words of wisdom. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2019 06:30 AM PDT I want to start a painting business in the next few months. What are the basic requirements of doing so legally. I understand business license and insurance, but what else. Also after that what type of marketing and advertising would work best. Anyone here ever start a painting business or trade company? I understand some business because of my family and little bit of college education, but when it comes down to it I mostly just understand the painting aspect of it. [link] [comments] |
Getting certified as a Women Owned Business Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:31 PM PDT My mother and I are the majority partners in a business, and we want to get officially certified as a women owned business. We've looked into the process and it is incredibly daunting! Do most businesses go through this process on their own, or are there services that can help with certification? [link] [comments] |
advertising? Where to even begin? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 10:49 AM PDT I run a mildly successful online retailer and it's no surprise, more eyeballs on the site generate more revenue. my problem is that I've never, in 4 years of running this business as a hobby, seem to be able to get reliable advertising down. My site has gone viral on it's own a couple of times, through blog posts, radio shows, and even tv a few times without me doing anything. But when I spend money I see little to no return. Where do you guys turn to for advertising? Where do you even start? [link] [comments] |

Tax Questions on transitioning from contracted employee into a salaried employee (Michigan) Posted: 06 Apr 2019 09:49 AM PDT Hello, my current mentor/boss and I are looking into bringing me in as an hourly employee so I can start working with him full time. We've found good information about setting up and providing me health insurance, but we're looking into what needs done to do the transition into a full time employee in regards to taxes. Prior to me coming on board, he ran a one man operation with some 1099 help from his son. So he's not exactly sure what needs to be done to set up tax deductions or a regular payroll check, and I've never dealt with it either. Just wondering if there are any good resources on getting that set up or learning more about it. [link] [comments] |

Starting a business, have small contract with Fortune 500, pay me directly or LLC? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:36 AM PDT I'm starting a small business and got my first contract! It's with a large company that doesn't contract directly with individuals, so the have assigned me to one if their preferred vendors, who will be my liaison. All of that is good. I have recently established an LLC (sole proprietorship), and my question is this. Should I have the vendor pay me directly as an individual? Or should I have them pay my LLC? Mainly thinking about tax and legal implications. For context, no employees besides me, no real business expenses except paying myself, its consulting work for an old coworker [link] [comments] |
Can I start charging taxes on my online store? Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:20 AM PDT Long time lurker here, I own an online store and with the relatively recent change to taxes, I now get charged for production based on the state the order is placed on. I've never charged tax for my products, I just have a flat fee and then a shipping cost. My money person recommended just bringing up the prices of my product a little bit to off-set it. Do you agree this is the best way to go about it? I know on my site, I can charge a tax-percentage based on location of the order so then it would 100% off set it. But I'm not sure if I need to do anything to be able to charge tax, so is quietly bringing up products by a dollar best? Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Apr 2019 06:19 AM PDT I discovered a small problem which I want to start a business to solve. It's rather basic and the economics work well. And Wordpress Themes are overly complex for what I want. what service can I use for this? and what is your experience with what you're recommending? [link] [comments] |
