r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Apr 26, 2019 Posted: 26 Apr 2019 01:07 AM PDT This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well. See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned. Beyond Meat IPO Exciting for Anyone? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 12:47 PM PDT It's coming next week. It's a leader in the vegan food market, but it's tough for me to get excited by a company that not only isn't profitable, but whose guidance outright said that it may *never* be able to sustain profitability (thanks for being honest at least, I guess). Ford is up ~8% after hours on earnings... Posted: 25 Apr 2019 02:31 PM PDT Pretty impressive numbers considering the dick punching they've endured this year with their restructuring, tariffs, etc. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2019 07:18 AM PDT "...be greedy when others are fearful" —> the stock has plunged 7.36% today, and long term outlook has remained unchanged. Your opinions? [link] [comments] |

Anyone long utilities/telecom/consumer staples/ death here? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 01:02 PM PDT Considering we're making ATH's just about everywhere I look, I suspect dumb money to be following suit and buying in now. Which means smart money is moving into something else. Anyone long in the "recession proof" sectors? KR, WMT, PG, UN, NGG, D, T, WM, to throw out a few [link] [comments] |
Amazon on pace to spend $7 billion on video and music content this year, according to new disclosure Posted: 26 Apr 2019 12:57 PM PDT https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/26/amazon-on-pace-to-spend-7-billion-on-video-and-music-content.html Amazon disclosed for the first time its total video and music expense in its quarterly filing on Friday. In the first quarter, Amazon spent $1.7 billion on video and music content, which translates to roughly $7 billion for the full year. That exceeds prior estimates by some analysts, and could raise questions on the effectiveness of the investments. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:06 AM PDT Already pulled the trigger yesterday so just wanted to get your guys thoughts on DIS at both a 30day, 1 year, and 5 year prospect? They seem to have everything going in their favor atm with (IMHO) the exception of trying to fight Netflix. Wanted to hear your guy's thoughts. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Intel shares on pace for biggest plunge since 2008 after disappointing revenue forecast Posted: 26 Apr 2019 09:59 AM PDT https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/26/intel-shares-down-more-than-10percent-on-revenue-forecast.html Shares of Intel plunged nearly 10% on Friday. The technology company's shares fell after it reported a weak revenue forcast for 2019. The company expects sales to total $69 billion for the year, $2.05 billion below initial expectations. Did intel chose a wrong ceo? Is 3 day rule apply to intel? [link] [comments] |

Investing in stock market when your main currency isn’t USD? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:30 AM PDT Hello. What would be the strategy in investing when your main currency let's say is Euro. Out of my two banks the best one conversion is 1 eur -> 1.08 usd -> 0.94 eur. Making purchases in foreign currency (USD in this case) from my bank account cost a lot for a transaction so to make use of it I would need to open account somewhere else and transfer money there (when I cash out stocks). Still I won't be able to spend all that money and euros is where life is. After recognizing this I put a stop to it and didn't convert any more money. I have accumulated money that I need to invest some time so what would my strategy be now? Invest in depressing EU market or do what? In excellent world I could immigrate to USA later but I'm not excellent so it won't work out. 🙁 [link] [comments] |

Do ETF management fees come out of the dividends it offers? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:01 AM PDT I am a bit confused about how ETF management fees are paid. Because an ETF does not have to pay out a dividend, do management fees come out some other way? Or do ETFs that offer a dividend always pay the fees out of that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2019 09:57 AM PDT Tesla stock is about 235 would it be a good time to buy shares or wait to see if it drops more? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2019 09:52 AM PDT I Invested in the IPO Pintrest the day it came out at give or take $23.82, its jumped to 30$ a share today and I'm impressed with the increase in price so far. However I'm concerned with the patterns of other social media platforms like snapchat. What does r/stocks think about the PIN stock and what are your predictions/Hope's? Thanks [link] [comments] |

What do you guys think about the Ragingbull crew? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:07 AM PDT I watched a webinar last night and the guy seems to be legit. He showed broker statements as well as other information. Has anyone here signed up to their services? If so, what's your honest take and would you recommend others to do the same? By the way, I understand each trader needs to find their own strategy. But it's great to learn from others (not copy them) [link] [comments] |
