    RIO

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 06:46 AM PDT

Rio Tinto's stock price keeps increasing and its PE keeps decreasing. Is this not at least in itself a table pounding buy signal? Unless of course you have a bearish macro view.

New to this. I barely have a checking account. I May be able to put 2k into stocks. Is it worth it?

Do I need a broker for this? How much would I it cost me?

I am absolutely ignorant, and I would love and appreciate some guidance.

I want to invest in some companies/areas that I think have great potential.

    Apple vs Amazon

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 01:32 PM PDT

I'm thinking of long term investing in one of the companies. New to investing, please be kind.

    PE ratio:

    Apple: 16.73

    Amazon: 98.36

    Div:

    Apple: 1.43%

    Amazon: 0%

Isn't AAPL's PE ratio insanely low and AMAZON's insanely high for $950B companies? What justifies amazon's insanely high ratio? Seems like all future growth is already priced into its stock price today.

Incase of a market tumble seems like Amazon will lose much more than Apple.

Also Apple's $250B in cash? Tomorrow if they decide to invest it in future prospects, wouldn't that lead to a good increase in stock price?

Buy AMC stock for Avengers: Endgame Sales?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 01:32 PM PDT

It's not crazy to think that Avengers: End Game could turn out to be one of the Highest grossing films of all time, that people will most likely want to see IN theaters. Logic would tell me that this should be reflected positively in AMC's earnings next quarter and potentially spike the price.

    Curious to hear anyones thoughts.

    BANKS IN CANADA

Looking at opening an investment account and wondering which banks you've gone with (in Canada) and why. Or if there's another way to get an investment account other than a bank.

    AMD vs Intel stock.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 11:51 AM PDT

i am seeing alot of chatter regarding the CPU industry at this time.

i have read couple articles on why that is so.

but in the long term, wouldnt intel be the safer investment?

    1. intel stock went down, so its cheap atm.

    2. proven track record

    3. pays dividend

what are the reasons to buy AMD over intel right now? is it for the possible short term capital gains?

plus, it seems like analysts arent very optimistic about AMDs upcoming quarterly earning call ??

    Stock Screener question

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 06:45 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but I just finished reading about quantitative momentum and need to know what tools/stock screener I would need to rank a universe of stocks by information discreteness (% of days with positive returns - % of days with negative returns) over the last 12 months?

Compliance Question: Are Insiders Required To Report Securities Lending Activities?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 01:04 AM PDT

I can't seem to find this anywhere online. If you review some of Patrick Byrnes 13-D's you see him reporting that he pledged shares to a bank, but if you review other company filings, you don't see them report it. I can't seem to find any rules or guidelines anywhere.

Pot stocks: bigger opportunities in the underdogs?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 08:23 AM PDT

The last time I crunched the numbers (sept 2018), the big guys (canopy, aurora, weed) were trading at about 100-150 times projected sales; meanwhile there are a large number of little up and comers that were trading at 5-15 times projected sales.

The one I did a deep dive on is Lotus Ventures, a Canadian company trading as J.CN. They just finished building their greenhouse, have deals with former tobacco farmers to produce for them, and just got approved by the Canadian gov't. What's unique about their model is the outsourcing of production to tobacco farmers looking to switch over; this makes them potentially more scalable but may also affect their margins. At any rate the stock is 24 cents, has been between 18 and 50 cents for over a year.

My feeling is that [edit to add "some or many of"] these little guys are either going to break out once they start publishing real sales data and/or get acquired by one of the big guys. So more potential upside...

Any thoughts here about pot penny stocks and their prospects vs. the big guys?

Getting into investing, is it okay to start like this?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 04:34 AM PDT

I have around 50k to invest and was planning to put around 10k into HSBC MSCI World ETF, before doing more research and deciding on how to split up the rest.

    Is this an okay decision?

    Marijuana Stocks?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 03:54 AM PDT

Obviously in 2019, there is huge potential with marijuana stocks as it becomes more legalized and socially acceptable. However, is investing in stocks such as Hexo and Aurora Canabis too good to be true? I've heard such speculations as increasing by 1000% within the next 10 years. Sounds like automatic money but from experience, I know there is no such thing as "free money." What are your thoughts?

[Advice] How should I approach a high gaining stock but that I only have little shares on?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:42 PM PDT

I've been investing for a little over 1.5 yrs now but I am definitely not an aggressive investor. I split my investment between a couple stocks, one of them MSFT which is the stock in question here. I only bought 10 shares at $82.95. Today it's at $129.72 for a gain of just over 56%. I highly regret not having put more money then, I kept concentrating on others.

But I'm wondering what are the best options in this case. Sell and wait for a dip to buy in again, put more money in it which brings up the average cost (I only know the basic of cost averaging so I see it as negative to bring the cost up especially when there's such a large difference between the original price and the actual one). Or what is the best plan of action here? I kind of get discouraged at the thought of only having 10 shares so any ideas or tips you guys may have is greatly appreciated.

    Unusual Options on SPY?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:32 PM PDT

I've always been under the impression that puts cost more than calls, so why are SPY's calls so much more expensive than the puts? Like may 1 closest in and out of money priced calls are 1.25 and 1.55 and for puts 1.26 and 1.06. This is similar to other times of expiration. Is this normal? I looked for the profitability of bear spreads and going long was profitable compared to selling put spreads. Is this normal?
