Sprint's stock fell 10% after hours Tuesday following a Wall Street Journal report that said the carrier's merger with T-Mobile was unlikely as currently structured.

Sprint and T-Mobile have argued that the merger is necessary to compete with the two largest carriers in the U.S., AT&T and Verizon.

The companies also said the merger will help Sprint and T-Mobile provide greater access to 5G.

Stocks in Asia rise; BOJ chief flags concerns over trade protectionism.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2019 10:34 PM PDT

Stocks in Asia were higher in Tuesday afternoon trade, as U.S.-Japan trade talks kicked off and the Bank of Japan chief flagged risks of increasing trade protectionism to the global economic growth outlook.

The Nikkei 225 in Japan rose 0.25 percent in afternoon trade, with shares of index heavyweights Fast Retailing and Softbank Group advancing about 1 percent each. The Topix index, however, slipped 0.1 percent.

Shares of Japanese telcos Softbank Corp and NTT Docomo both jumped more than 3 percent each after the latter announced price cuts that were smaller than expected.

Shares in mainland China recovered from their earlier slump to rise by the afternoon, with the Shanghai composite gaining 1.11 percent and the Shenzhen component adding about 0.55 percent. The Shenzhen composite also advanced 0.310 percent.

Resilience in the property market would provide some cushion for China's economy as sectors such as manufacturing and retail are hit by trade war tensions and weak consumer confidence, Reuters reported.

Average new home prices in China rose faster in March as compared to February, according to Reuters' calculation of data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index added 0.63 percent.

Over in South Korea, the Kospi was fractionally higher, as shares of Asiana Airlines surged beyond 16 percent.

The top shareholder of Asiana Airlines, Kumho Industrial, said on Monday it would sell its entire stake in the debt-ridden carrier to keep it afloat, Reuters reported. That followed weeks of financial uncertainty after the carrier failed to win auditors' sign-off on its 2018 financial statements.

Which triggered warnings of credit rating downgrades, according to the Reuters report. For its part, Kumho Industrial saw its stock jump beyond 9 percent.

In Australia, the ASX 200 was 0.33 percent higher, as most sectors advanced.

Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:23 AM PDT

This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report.

Question regarding how indicators are calculated:

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 04:19 PM PDT

If I'm calculating an indicator that uses high/low/close/open with 20 periods, is the "high" the highest price of the 20 periods or just the most recent period?

The indicator in question here is the DMI, if it matters.

But the DOW numbers looked interesting, especially given the last couple of days movements. Cannot believe I am mentioning a number above the 30k mark. Seems mad, given political headlines.

I've decided the best place to get answers would be from actual people that know a bunch about the stock market, any and all opinions would be appreciated!

Stock Market reactions to Thursdays Muller report.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 02:06 PM PDT

Ok we all know the Muller Report is coming out on Thursday. Its been said this is 300 page report. This is not some kids high school term paper length this is a novels length report. That being said this could be very bad news for the market when the report is released. Anybody know where the traders are putting there money on the dow, nasdaq on calls or put action. This sounds like a classic case of pump and dump. Im thinking the market trades up on wednesday in the last hours then comes crashing down on thursday when the bad news muller report comes out but of course I could be wrong and the muller report is nothing but butterflies and flowers. Diversification/strategic help!

Hey everybody, first time posting here, longtime lurker. I'm 35 and have only been investing for 2.5 years. It started as a way for me to try to do better than just throwing cash in a savings account. Now that I have more than a few holdings, I've noticed that I've been buying things more based on what I enjoy reading about or overall, general interest. I'm worried now it's more of a portfolio, it may lack diversity or have some glaring holes as a result. Just wanted to hear some ideas on how to improve, portfolio is as follows below:

Time to Add More Risk: Stocks to Watch

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 01:45 PM PDT

    Market Backdrop

Read the blog with the charts here: https://www.brtechnicals.com/time-to-add-more-risk-stocks-to-watch/

The major averages have hit key price levels providing a great time to add more risk into our portfolios. While there are still some concerns and uncertainties surrounding stocks, most notably small caps, the breakouts tell us we should be bullish. In addition, the bullish signals are close enough to the bearish signals, that the risk/reward ratio is favorable (Read: The Market Environment Analysis – April 2019). Here are the stocks we are watching this week:

    CSX - CSX Corp.

CSX Corp. stock is currently in a sideways or rectangle pattern. The top of the rectangle resistance is around $75, while the support is around $58. If the resistance breaks, it could signal the beginning of a new uptrend.

    LL - Lumber Liquidators Holdings

Lumber Liquidators has had some trouble over the last few years. Despite being in a 10 year bull market, the stock peaked in 2013 around $120 dollars. Now, the stock is sitting around a $10 support line. This could be the bottom for the stock, as it previously bottomed at this level in 2016. If you enjoy risk and calling bottoms, this may be a stock for you.

    FFIV - F5 Networks Inc.

FFIV is in a pennant formation within a bull market. These formations are usually continuation patterns, so we would expect the stock to break out to the upside.

Pennant formations look like pennant flags, and the even require a flag pole. The pennant looks similar to a symmetrical triangle, but they tend to point in the opposite direction of the current trend. The flag pole leads up to the pennant, and gets its name because it is usually a quick, almost vertical price move.

EXPD - Expeditors Intl of Washington

EXPD stock is in a flag/rectangle pattern. The stock is currently working on a breakout past a $77 resistance level. At first I though the resistance line pointed down, but after breaking past the slanted line in November, the stock quickly reversed after reaching $77. Because of this, the top resistance became a flat line. Now, we want to make sure $77 is cleared enough to begin a new trend.

$AREC American Resources Corporation Reduces Reclamation Bonding Liability Through Disposition of Non-Core Permits and Reclamation Efforts

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 12:23 PM PDT

    https://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/AREC/news/story?e&id=1333264

FISHERS, IN / ACCESSWIRE / April 16, 2019 / American Resources Corporation (NASDAQ: AREC), a supplier of raw materials to the rapidly growing global infrastructure marketplace, with a primary focus on the extraction, processing, transportation and selling of metallurgical coal to the steel industry, announced today that it has completed the transfer and disposition of two non-core permits to a third party, resulting in the reduction of reclamation bonding liability held by the company by approximately $2.86 million. Along with additional recent reclamation efforts, the company has also reduced its reclamation bonds by approximately $176,300 for a total reduction of $3.04 million. The reduction in reclamation bonding reduces the bonding of the company's subsidiary, Knott County Coal, by approximately 34.5% from approximately $8.8 million in bonds to $5.8 million in bonds, and reduces the bonding overall at the company by approximately 11.4%, thereby reducing liabilities on the balance sheet and saving the company money in bonding fees, holding costs, and future reclamation costs.

An idled facility that is considered non-core to the company's operations, the Raven preparation plant and associated impoundment were considered geographically redundant to the company's existing Supreme Energy preparation plant and impoundment owned by the company's subsidiary, Knott County Coal LLC, and accessed only higher sulfur thermal coal. Prior to its disposition, the Raven plant was the only leased preparation facility of the company, as opposed to its other five wholly-owned preparation plants. The permits to the Raven facility, which is owned by a third-party and was leased by the company, were acquired as part of the company's acquisition of Knott County Coal (formerly known as ICG Knott County).

''The Raven facility was never present in any of our forecasted growth plans. Any future coal production in this area will be brought back to our owned facilities at either Deane Mining or Knott County Coal, making the disposition of the facility strategic and a good cost-savings measure for the company'', stated Kirk Taylor, Chief Financial Officer of American Resources Corporation. ''Our strategy remains focused on targeting premium quality coals predominantly used in the steel making sector, such as coking coal and pulverized injection coal. With this divestment, we can continue to reduce non-core holding costs and liabilities.''

American Resources Corporation continues to focus on its growth objective by efficiently leveraging its large number of core mining permits and through identifying strategic, supplemental acquisitions and continuing to consolidate quality coal assets for future growth and production. The company is committed to being one of the lowest cost operators in CAPP and throughout all its coal mining, processing, and transportation operations.

Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:24 AM PDT

These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds).

There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions.

    New Filings

This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold.
