Refinancing Rates, hard pulls, and credit scores Posted: 07 Apr 2019 03:51 PM PDT I am looking to refinance my private student loans (~60K, 6.75% interest), and I've been shopping around for rates, with companies doing a soft credit pull. It seems like the interest rates vary a lot, so I was thinking of putting in applications with a few companies to see what actual rates would be. How many hard pulls would start to affect my credit score? I also read on here that all hard pulls within 30 days are treated as one pull, is that correct? [link] [comments] |
Student loan interest and taxes Posted: 07 Apr 2019 10:07 PM PDT So I recently filed taxes with my parents and I'm a little confused. I graduated in May 2018 with my Bachelors and had started to make payments toward my student loan after my grace period. I get an email claiming I can add my interest to my taxes, but I wasn't able to do that as I'm still claimed as a dependent on my parents. Why is it if I'm making payments, I can't claim anything from my student loans? Apparently I can only claim if I wasn't a dependent. I don't understand the logic here. [link] [comments] |
TPD discharge - What's the point? Posted: 08 Apr 2019 03:08 AM PDT Almost submitted FAFSA until I read that a person must have employment income below the poverty line for 3 years. Wouldn't it be more prudent for one to get a part-time job and pay their tuition? Especially if one plans to use their education for a JOB that doesn't pay below poverty level.... 😕 [link] [comments] |
Best Place to take out a 50k /yr loan? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 11:52 AM PDT So I'll be attending an college this fall, and because of my parent's salary I got 0 financial aid. What's the best place to take out a 50k / yr loan without paying too much interest. I'm pretty clueless on this stuff and anything would mean a lot to me. [link] [comments] |
Nelnet Contacted me and claimed my payment was past due, When I Paid it 7 days ago. Posted: 07 Apr 2019 07:38 AM PDT A payment was due on 4/3 for $36. I paid Nelnet $36 on 4/1. Today I received a notification that my balance was past due and that I owe $31. Can anyone make sense of this? *I'm not sure if it matters, but I chose to pay the full $36 to one group instead of dividing the $36 between the 7 groups of loans I have*. It was under the impression that I could pay the balance due to any group of my choosing as long as I paid the issued amount. Am I wrong? [link] [comments] |
telling sallie mae to piss off Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:11 PM PDT i am currently $90,000 in student loan debt, with 95% of the debt is to sallie mae while the rest is federal i am no longer in school due to financial reasons so my forbearance period is almost up. sallie mae monthly payments were supposed to be $950 a month but after calling the representative and talking to him, the only way he said he could help me out is making interest only payments which would be $750 a month. currently working full time and then some and there is no possible way that i could afford either of those payments. my boss told me that as long as i was paying something each month they could not come after me for garnishment in the future. is this information correct?? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 07:05 PM PDT Hello! I'm currently a junior (67 credits). I need to take a small loan to cover my summer classes ($7,000). I just want to know which loan is better. Parent PLUS or if I take a private loan. My issues with both of them are: Parent PLUS my mom cannot pay it. At all. So I don't want to put that loan on her. Private loan I applied online for the College Ave and they approved it but if I repaid them in 5 years after graduation I would have to pay almost $5,000 in interest. For a total of $12,000 (just for a $7,000 loan!!) [link] [comments] |
