QuickBooks customers: Prepare for 250% price hike by Intuit. Posted: 16 Apr 2019 04:10 PM PDT Just spent 10 minutes on the phone with Intuit figuring out what they have planned. In a few months, they are jacking up my existing subscription by 250%, from $60 per month, to $150 per month. Their marketing spin is they are adding so much new functionality based on customers begging for more apps, that they are forcing everyone to upgrade. Guess they have us all by the balls. They never miss an opportunity to milk existing customers. If I don't pay the extortion, they plan to eliminate "classes", one of the key ways I track revenues by business unit. If you are thinking about going the Quickbooks route, be ready to be held hostage for rate hikes. [link] [comments] |

Where can i go or what can i do to obtain the skills required to start and run my own business? Posted: 17 Apr 2019 02:14 AM PDT So I'm 24 and thinking that someday I would like to start up my own business. This is because I've become more interested in working for myself rather than a standard 9-5 job. The issue is that I don't believe that I currently have the skills needed to start and run a business and don't know where I can go to learn the required skills? Originally I obtained a biological science degree, and then worked a few different jobs before realizing that a regular career might not be for me. I'm hesitant to study a second full time degree in business management due to the high financial investment. I was potentially thinking of searching for a part time accountancy course to learn more about business financials as a starting point. Could anyone else recommend ideas which might help to earn useful experience before taking the plunge and setting up a new business? Thank you for helpful advice in advance! [link] [comments] |
Dealing with an employee that takes everything personally... Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:07 PM PDT I hired someone who is experienced and reliable - two great things to bring to the table. However, I am at my wits end with their inability to take criticism. I had a few issues over the last few weeks and decided to write an email to the entire staff and they responded with backhanded advice on what I, the owner and manager, should do. I mean...I know what to do...I've owned and operated the business for several years. They respond in such a defensive way as if I am directing all the wrongs towards them. They are now telling my other employees what should and shouldn't be done instead of coming to me with any problems. I am very hands on and I've told them several times if there's ever any issue, just let me know so I can handle it properly. They're making it very hard for me to do my job and it's nerve wracking and annoying as hell. The caddy, backhanded response whenever I need to address something is getting old and I don't have the patience. Has anybody been through this before? I don't know how much longer I can deal with this. Any advice is welcome. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 07:44 PM PDT I've only had 2 cards for my business. Homedepot with 10k limit and a capital one sparks card (only 1% cash rewards) with a 500 limit. Ive been asking for increases for the cap card because I hate using personal cards for business even though when I use them I use them strictly for business and don't mix. I just hate it because it doesn't help my business. Anyway my score skyrocketed recently. So today I randomly decided I'm going to give it a go again and just accept a hard inquiry. I'd been rejected so many times that I expected another denial. Amex approved for 13500. And it's not a hard limit. Decided to get cocky and went for the card I knew would turn me down. Chase business ink preferred. Approved for 43k. Holy shit!? What? I can finally finally finally finally fucking out everything down on one card. No more dancing around with 4 cards and breaking them down for my accountant. Allllllll will go on maximum two statements. Both clearly business cards and both reporting to DUN. Fuck. Took 3.5 years. Capital one still won't increase either. Oh and instead of 1% cash back I now get 3%. Huge. Huge huge huge. I did make a mistake and try and open a Citi 2% cash back card for my personal use just cuz. Got wait listed which probably means denial. Then I applied for a discover loan just to see if it might be lower than a small personal loan I took with lending club but got straight up denied because this was my 4th hard inquiry of the day. So that's it for me with C/C. But god am that was a surprise! [link] [comments] |
1 star review - I feel it is unwarranted. How to proceed? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 11:49 PM PDT I own a small Powerwashing business. I work extremely hard to earn 5 star ratings with my customers. I have 32 5 star ratings at the moment and one 1 star review. The 1 star review was because the customer was never contacted through Home Advisor and left the review on my Google page. I was never presented with the customer's contact information. It is the only review the customer has ever left for someone. This is what I've written for response but haven't posted yet:
I was hoping to reach out to the customer through my company's Facebook page to offer discounted services for his trouble. Also, would this review be eligible to be removed by Google? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:56 PM PDT At what price point will you want to actually get on the phone with someone before purchasing? Let's say you're paying for a few blog posts. If it was just $200 for a blog post, it might be unnecessary to get on the phone. But at what price would you need to talk to someone over the phone before making the purchase? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:31 PM PDT Do merchant accounts, for example Wave, (where it allows you to accept credit card & bank payments) check your credit score? Wouldn't make much sense in my opinion. I have good credit but with opening up a business as a corporation, I don't like having to put my SS in places where they could potentially credit check as every check lowers your score. How to block forwarding on pdf's? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:49 AM PDT A while ago i ordered a pdf that went to my email. I tried forwarding it to my other email and it didnt work. I was wondering if that was just a glitch from my side or is there a way (when you make a pdf/ebook/etc) to not allow people to forward/share links? This would be extremely helpful to me if i start selling my ebooks brcause i dont want people who didnt pay for it to get it. [link] [comments] |
Digitalizing small Furniture and woodworking company Posted: 16 Apr 2019 09:07 PM PDT Hi! I'm new on Reddit and since there are so many people, I hope for some solid answers. So, my dad's company wants to digitalize their company, they want to get rid of paper shit and so on. Right now, everything is on paper, like work time, many different dimensions, orders and many more things. Financial thing they are doing with ERP programs ofc and MRP too. My plan was to get one tablet, make an app for work orders, and there are tasks, which employee then accepts that he/she has done it by clicking on their name in name list and checking the checkbox. For that I'd need a database maybe, which can be done with MySQL. In MySQL I need to create database, which contains the names of employees, different work tasks and so on. MySQL database can be later connected with application, so it should not be problem. I wish that I can somehow connect app, MySQL and Excel that way, that accountant can summarize employee's hours somehow and salary and so on. Everything on digitalizing stuff somehow, can help me alot. I have many things in my mind and that's why it all seems so unclear. Btw sry for my english. Hope there's someone who can share any ideas about digitalizing that small company. (Btw there's about only 40 employees). [link] [comments] |
Best accounting service for small digital goods-based business? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:59 PM PDT I'm looking for an accounting/inventory management service that is
My business involves buying/selling digital goods in a way that is fully online and has no shipment or interaction with other companies involved. I want to be able to track the inventory I buy at varying costs, the things I sell, and then generate reports based on those things. Since my business is somewhat straightforward and doesn't involve many aspects of a traditional business, I want something that is focused on buying/selling the same inventory over and over without the extra fancy & unnecessary stuff. That is, of course, unless I can just ignore it and use the features I need without it bugging me. So far I've tried:
Any other suggestions in the $0-20/mo range that I should take a look at? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:17 PM PDT Does anyone know any websites that are good to use to bulk order T-shirt's? Are there any recommendations for brands to use for T-shirt to heat press on? Is there a huge difference in quality between brands? Thank you guy! [link] [comments] |
Budget question for a small call center Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:13 PM PDT I am a graduate student in psychology doing a project about running a small nonprofit call center. I am not interested in starting this business, but I do have to make a semi-legit budget. My training is not in finances/entrepreneurship, so idk what I am doing. The details: Calls are answered 8 hrs/day. Web chat is open 24/7. Under 10 people working at any time, 1 of which is a supervisor. Only the supervisor is a paid position. Expected call and chat volume combined is less than 50 calls a day. Max length of contact is 15 minutes. Ideally, people work from home through a web client. Any ballpark estimates on cost to start/month-to-month cost? Because this is hypothetical in the end, questions/suggestions about feasibility are also encouraged. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

We use QuickBooks. Switch to DataInsure? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 07:04 PM PDT I don't do our company's books, but do own the company. The employee who does the daily bookkeeping has been talking with DataInsure, which is a company that "manages" Q/B, and provides credit card processing. We currently use authorize.net for credit card processing, and according to BBB reviews, neither company is all that good. We went with authorize.net because QB didn't like us doing large transactions drop shipping. with no warning, they simply dropped us as a merchant... We only do a few credit card transactions per month. I've pulled the reins in a bit on switching to Data Insure, as it seems like they may be problematic. At this point, I want to continue using Q/B for bookkeeping, and maybe switch to a better credit card processor, preferably one that integrates well with Q/B. Thoughts on this? [link] [comments] |
Want to practice with Shopify. Can I practice without starting the 14 day trial? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 12:35 PM PDT I am still a few months away from having product to sell, but I want to get the online store setup well ahead of time. Is there a way to do this without starting the 14 day trial? It seems odd to have a standard practice of getting a retail site up and ready to launch in 2 weeks. EDIT - thanks everyone, great useful answers. I wonder why Shopify doesn't just say this on their site. [link] [comments] |
Will Square give me my money after 90 days? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 02:09 PM PDT I'm a freelancer that sells advertising to various small business around the US. I have been using Square for about 3 months. Today after signing up a new client, I received an email that my Square account has been deactivated & that my funds will be held for 90 days. I have searched online to find someone who has been successfully given their money from Square after this 90 day hold, to no avail. Square actually suggested in their email that I refund my client and charge them on a separate CC processor. I'm finding myself in between a rock and a hard place with this one. Have any of you that have a frozen Square account actually received your full deposit after the 90 hold period? Or should I kiss my money goodbye? [link] [comments] |
