Friday Story Time: Went to war with a competitor today... Posted: 26 Apr 2019 03:49 PM PDT We caught a chronic PIA competitor with their pants down today. They're a greasy operator that regularly ignores or subverts pretty important health and safety regulations. By doing so they've had much lower costs than us and gained a competitive advantage. I've been prepping for a year we just stole their most important contract and several enforcement agencies have opened up investigations with evidence we've collected. They're a reckless operator and bad for our sector - I can't wait to put them down. Anyone ever gone all in against a competitor before? [link] [comments] |
Best Shopify Stores For E‑commerce Inspiration in Kolkata Posted: 27 Apr 2019 12:26 AM PDT Living in the city of joy for about 100 years my family runs a business of cloth which expanded gradually, with technological advancement we started a telephonic business on phone, but I always wanted an online store! Convincing my father on this was really tough as the city in which traditional business runs in the blood getting them to the modern way of business was difficult! But I pulled up my socks to make them believe that the modern way of online business is the key to success in the times to come! I started doing my research in finding out the best eCommerce platform along with success stories on that platform in Kolkata! As Ease of use was the most important aspect for me because it was supposed to be run by nontechies in office Shopify was my answer to my father's questions on What is the benefits of an online store? Shopify –A Canadian Venture which became the most popular eCommerce platform for businesses regular, wholesale or enterprise! The biggest advantage with Shopify is its ease of use, you do not have to be a tech gizmo to run your own store neither do you need a team of techies you can do everything yourself! I was thrilled with the new featured Appstore that will help on the marketing and as well as content and product management! And then came a million Dollar Question came in that my dad put in: How many stores in Kolkata use it? And my head went blank! I went on for my research again to find out how many in Kolkata actually use it and to my pleasant surprise there were amazing numbers but most importantly the sales have reached top notch and they are the best brands in town: https://www.mswebdesigner.com/blogs/news/best-shopify-stores-for-e-commerce-inspiration-in-kolkata [link] [comments] |
Help a brother out with a business name for a PC components retailer. Posted: 27 Apr 2019 03:47 AM PDT Hi All! I keep banging my head against the wall when it comes to naming a new business that I plan on starting. From what I've noticed Reddit has become a think tank :D So I'm going to solely relay on the readers to come up with a business name. More about business branding: Comic themed, so all the "zaps" , "bangs" and "pows" example Logo will consist of a super hero like character possibly gaming on a PC. Main colours would involve blue and black. It's going to be a company that people can relate to, it will mostly focus on gamers and so called nerds. The main aim is to create brand loyalty and a business that you can relay on. How many times have you ordered let's say a graphics card and it was meant to be delivered next day, but it came a week later or didn't come at all ? And the most frustrating thing is you get a generic response from a person that hates their job... What I want is real empathy for the customer. I want to be a human not a business cyborg, someone you can actually relate to. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! If you have any advice, I do listen (it doesn't have to be narrowed to just the name). *Please note that if you come up with a name you revoke all the intellectual rights to the name/brand. Posted: 27 Apr 2019 03:42 AM PDT Hey everyone. So I recently took a full time job that provides my family with pretty much everything that we need. Since I got this full time position my wife has been really down, since she had to leave her job to take care of our child, because I am no longer a part time employee. A couple of months ago my wife decided to start her own business to help keep herself busy (She's worked and provided for herself and those that she has loved or loves since she was 14.) So she feels a like she needs to provide for the family as well.) At first it was slow. (My wife makes a lot of home made things. Soaps, necklaces, hygiene products, etc.) But about a month ago she started seeing revenue from friends and family. It was great all of us were in high spirits about it. She's even got an Instagram account and random people with more followers than her have been sharing or been interested in her posts. Yet all of her sales are still people that we know or mutual friends of someone we know. Now my question to you guys is how can I help my wife's online business flourish? I honestly could care less about the money. We're fine financially, for the first time in a while, since I got a new position. Yet the happiness it brings my wife, when she has a new order to fulfill really makes her happy, and it brings me so much joy seeing her excited about it all. I really don't know much about marketing/advertising, but I'd really like to help my wife get and keep new customers, and expand her business. Not that I don't appreciate her friends and family for ordering items from her (because I do.) But how to I go about expanding the horizon of her business so it's not just local, or just people who see her stuff on social media? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 02:16 AM PDT If I want to start shopping my business around, what are people going to want to see? How detailed do I have to get with the financials? Do I have them sign an NDA? What if the financials are pretty low but I have reasons explaining the losses, would someone still be interested because I think they can turn it around and I can show them exactly how? Creating labels or branding for products, need opinion on redesign? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 06:45 PM PDT Originally my products had a black and white sticker - I am getting a good amount of sales, but have decided against a homemade feel. The plan is to put the stickers on tubes/bottles and have an contents and instruction booklet on the reverse - i spoke to suppliers and stickers seemed the most affordable option compared to custom printed tins. Original packaging looks like this [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 12:00 AM PDT I'm trying to start a business and the more I look to see what I need, I feel that I'm going in circles if anyone knows what I need to start would be a help. I know I have to register my name of business but not sure what after. I wanted to have vending machines within my establishment and I read that I don't need a permit for that as long as I have my business license. So if you can help me in the steps I need to take. I plan on opening either by December or by early February 2020. I am based out in Los Angeles. [link] [comments] |

Has anyone used QuickPay with Zelle for asking deposits or payments from clients? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:23 AM PDT I'm currently using Square but their transaction and service fee is not really good on my start-up. I was wondering about QuickPay as it is often tied with banks like Bank of America and definitely Chase. I can just ask them to send their CC to my Chase QuickPay. Since it seems to be a method for Chase holders to do. If so, is this a better way of avoiding fees for early small businesses? What other methods have you tried out? [link] [comments] |

I recently got a job promotion which will allow me to gift my parents what they've always wanted... a snow cone stand to be business owners. They currently own a residential property where down the road there are two schools, so I know traffic will alwaya be pushing sales. I don't know anything about regulations, permits, etc. Can anyone shine some light. I'm currently on the hidalgocounty.us page reading about rules and regulations of food establishments in the unincorporated areaa of Hidalgo and its all gibberish to me :(. Help! [link] [comments] |
How to deal with shipping smaller objects across the U.S. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:51 AM PDT I've looked into USPS shipping as well as Fedex but I can only seem to find the pricing for Priority shipping. Should I really expect a less than 1 lb package to cost $6 in shopping from Milwaukee, WI to Chicago, Illinois or am I missing better shipping options? [link] [comments] |

Suggestions for inventory system? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 02:58 PM PDT I'm having trouble keeping up with the inventory of supplies that I use to make the products I sell. I would love a free or inexpensive inventory system that allows me to take an original count of everything I have, then easily add/remove items as I buy new ones/use them. I don't need barcode functionality, as this wouldn't be to keep stock of the things I sell, just the things I USE to make the things I sell. I would like to be able to know what's in my stock without having to go dig for it, as well as easily see if I'm running low on anything (being alerted if stock is under 10 items, for example, would be amazing). I greatly appreciate any advice! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Strategies for working with municipalities? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:55 PM PDT So I launched a startup about 10 months ago and I don't think it's going well so far. My target clients are municipalities, and I've only come to an official agreement with one town. The thing is, everyone I tell about the business and the idea thinks it's great. Even the town managers, economic development directors, first selectmen, etc. of prospective client municipalities all give me great feedback; it's just going at a snail's pace. In extremely simple terms, the nature of the business is a consulting agency, so it'll be tough to secure any investment I assume without gathering a substantial amount of clients, and any real revenue is a couple years away. Sorry for keeping it a bit vague, but basically I'm just looking to see if anyone else out there has experience working with multiple towns and cities, and if so, what are some strategies you've used to speed up the development of your startup. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Organic Garden and Lawn Care Business - How do I expand Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:01 AM PDT Hello, I started a custom raised bed Vegetable garden business last year and had some success, consulted and build 5 raised beds with a good return and a satisfied customer base. This year I have started offering an organic lawn care service. My goal is to increase my exposure right now, as we are just getting into the spring season here in Ohio. I still have time to really gain traction with customers. I am currently using Google ads and Facebook marketing to get the word out about my product, along with partnering with local businesses and charities to get me on their websites. The response for my lawn care has been OK but i know it can be so much better because people love Organic, pet/kid safe treatments. How do i get the word out? I would like to eventually like to sub-contract or hire on a person to mow lawns, once i get a base of customers for my lawn treatments. These treatments are done 3x a year and I charge $45 per 1,000sqft. Cost in materials for me is around $15 per 1000sqft. What avenues would make sense for this? I have flyers and have passed them out at local events, but most events spring/summer events don't get started until May here. TL:DR I run an Organic lawn and garden business and want to expand. What do I do next? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:20 PM PDT TLDR at he bottom... My business is very gig based where each contract is different hours and pay for everyone. I need to pay myself and some as needed employees on a very random basis. Payroll services are not set up for this, especially how they want me to pay. I mean, $4/mo for each employee through quickbooks where I might have 20 employees for a few days and then never work with half of them again, and the next month I might do all my gigs alone or with one or two partners... It's just nonsense for my industry. I need to type a name, enter their dayrate and have the program spit out my tax liabilities. I eagerly jumped into quickbooks shortly after incorporating and going through all the associated red tape several months ago, but it's just... wrong for what I do. I want to pay myself for the gigs I've done so far (s-corp) but there's no record keeping or line items that will help me calculate my tax liabilities or eventually print w2's. I mean, how did this become the "standard" accounting software for small businesses when it's a huge pain in the ass to do simple things like pay myself?!? The invoicing and estimates features are great, but that's literally the only functionality I've found that works well for me. Does anyone have a line on some google sheets templates or ideas about non-shitty accounting software that's not trying to upsell me every time I want to do simple tasks? I've started just building my own spreadsheets, but I'm sure I'm not the first person to run into this. Any help out there? TLDR: I need tools to manually run payroll and calculate my payroll tax liabilities. Quickbooks is like trying to do taxes with a used car salesman. I might abandon them. I'm also just having trouble finding what my tax liabilities are. I'm told to just account for 22% in California, but all I can find for what those liabilities are I find long useless articles about how great things like SDI are... That's cool, but I just need a number for my liabilities... [link] [comments] |

Question: What is a better way of saying CRM (Customer Relationship Management)? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 10:08 AM PDT Hi there. I'm building a CRM specifically for trades people (electricians, painters..etc) and I'm trying to think of what to call the CRM. I don't think "CRM" is easily marketable as a word for this market segment. I want to come up with something that is more descriptive. I have though of things like System, Web System, Business App...etc. I would love some suggestions on naming for this type of product. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

How do you pay yourself in. 50/50 LLC ownership. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 02:56 PM PDT We don't have Steady work yet. But we might get a job for 10-20K. I would like to take money as i see fit. If we document what each partner is entitled to and then withdraw whenever we want is that appropriate and legal? Any weird tax things I should know. We're located in New York. [link] [comments] |
