Posted: 14 Apr 2019 11:05 AM PDT I'm 18 and I started selling 3d printed objects to people. I've made over 100 dollars now and it's looking like I'll make a lot more in the future. Do I need some sort of business license and how much can I make before I have to worry about taxes. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
how to work out travel costs for staff? Posted: 15 Apr 2019 02:26 AM PDT Hi, I have a small 'pop up' retail business that changes location each week. Sometimes staff are required to drive for more than an hour to get to work. Is there a standard model for calculating travel costs for staff? Petrol? etc. Any help is greatly appreciated! Posted: 15 Apr 2019 04:22 AM PDT So working within a medium size recruitment consultancy firm we are looking for an alternative to Adobe Sign, mainly to save on the costs. While we do want to make the change, it needs to be of a similar level to Adobe sign in terms of being able to embed documents on our website and have similar features. Interested to know if anyone else has had any experience with products which can be used to allow e-signing of compliance documents with both clients and candidates, whether this is within recruitment or any other business sector. New S Corp- one person payroll advice Posted: 15 Apr 2019 04:14 AM PDT Hi all, I've just started working with a CPA and formed an S corp this year (operated as a sole proprietor for 6) and I know I need payroll, which I plan to start this month. My question- is it worth it to have my CPA do payroll for me? They charge $75 monthly, I'm the only person on payroll. What I dont know is if it even be worth the savings to do it myself through some online program. I'm not very financially savvy, I dont want to make mistakes. Are the online programs, like gusto or intuit, easy to use (for those of you who use this route)? Also in your opinions, is it worth the price difference to just have my CPA do it? I want to work smarter not harder and certainly dont want to take on payroll if it's going to eat up a decent chunk of my time processing once a month. [link] [comments] |
Recommendations for a virtual phone service. Posted: 14 Apr 2019 09:11 PM PDT I run a marketing agency and looking for a phone service that will allow for prompts (eg; press 1 for John, press 2 for sales,etc...) Any recommendations for a service on the cheaper end? And does anyone know if the use of prompts and extensions would deter robo calls and ghost voice messages? Currently all calls are routed to my cell w/o the lack of prompts/extensions. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Apr 2019 03:57 PM PDT Throwaway for obvious reasons. We just purchased a second 1000 square-foot commercial space in a industrial area in my town. We live in a wealthy tourist town in South Florida. This area is highly trafficked. But it is a ghost town in the summer. I already run a successful business out of the our other unit in the same building which generates $30,000 a month in revenue. I am considering just renting the unit out which could generate close to $1000 a month in rental income. We own both units free and clear. No mortgage. As of right now the space is just one big open room with nice LED lighting and white walls. Basically it's a commercial industrial storefront with 21 ft ceilings. One of my thoughts was to install a commercial kitchen and rent out the space to catering companies and food trucks. Also I could issue commissary licenses. But I really don't have any knowledge of that business and I am reaching out to some people in the food world to find out if that even make sense. What doesn't make sense to us is to rent it for $1000 a month when we could potentially create another successful business inside of it. Also expansion of our current business doesn't make sense as it is a service-based business and we have topped out of the market. Commercial rent in our town is extremely high. Is it more valuable as rental income/passive income or can we put a low maintenance business in it that could generate more than $1000 a month? Open to all ideas, throw them at us. Taking over family business and need help. Posted: 14 Apr 2019 10:25 PM PDT I'm (24M) slowly taking over my dad's electrical business. There are plenty of low hanging fruit when it comes to things I need to straighten up. One of the biggest is separating the then personal and business finances. Right now it's all one. So, my obvious solution and thus low hanging fruit is to open a business account to solve that. But, the business is a sole proprietorship and we don't have an LLC. Does this mean I'll have to open it under my name? Do I need an LLC to open up a bank account or credit card under my business? Are there any reasons why having it as an LLC are beneficial? I understand that these might be stupid questions but I'm doing my best to become more financially apt. My plan is to grow this business and hopefully start more business in the meantime, so I know that if I want to succeed I'll need my options to be known. Right now I am focused on setting up the systems to allow myself to grow the business with a minimal amount of growing pains. With that, if anyone has any book/podcast/channel/website/etc to recommend to a young and aspiring business owner that may help, it would be deeply appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 08:04 PM PDT I am 18 years old. College is not for me. I could handle business classes but full time college is not working. I need to be making money. I either want to open an edible cookie dough shop or a handmade items/candy counter/sell all shop. I plan to get my CNA certificate this summer so I can start making money (around 600 maybe more deoending) . I can also babysit in the wealthier neighborhood here and be making around 1,500-2,000 a week. I need ALL the advice you can give me on starting, opening, buying, running, and handling a business. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid and I want to make it a reality within the next 5 years. [link] [comments] |
How many times do you small business owners get a penetration test? Posted: 14 Apr 2019 03:50 PM PDT I'm doing research for school and was wondering how many small businesses get a penetration test on their sites, how many times per year, if you've been hacked and how much it costs you? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Apr 2019 03:39 PM PDT I've been told by a couple of my coworkers that once you have enough experience, you can open your own grooming business if you have the money, and that mobile is the way to go with it. If you've done this before, is there anything I should know before dedicating myself to this path? I feel like the pet industry is pretty big, and that people are willing to pay a lot for their pets. Software for small manufacturing business? Posted: 14 Apr 2019 07:44 AM PDT I own a small sewing contracting business (small batch manufacturing) and I am preparing to merge with an upholsterer who also offers sewing contracting. We have two employees. We're going to need accounting, payroll, and POS software. She has been using QuickBooks. I have been using Freshbooks. What I like about Freshbooks is that I can separate orders into projects and track time which I carry into spreadsheets for time studies. It is important that I know how much time is being spent on any given task. Freshbooks also allows for my staff to have their own log ins for payroll. I have few clients that return consistently with consistent products we produce for them. In the upholstery department, my partner may have hundreds of individual clients that may or may not be returning. The products are generally consistent. Both software includes expense tracking and back account integration which will be important for obvious reasons. They both have their shortcomings though. Fellow manufacturers, what do you use? Is there anything out there suited specifically to our business model? [link] [comments] |
How have you successfully leveraged your Pinterest views for your business? Posted: 14 Apr 2019 02:42 PM PDT I make jewelry, but turned my personal pinterest into a business one to see all the analytics. I currently only have an Etsy shop, and just pin some of my stuff to my boards. My pinterest over all gets anywhere from 3500-7000 views a month, but it's not on my personal creations, just things I am pinning when I'm bored. How do I use this audience? Do I need a website? I've tried to make a wix site and link it but I can't seem to get it to work. PS. I'm a full time student so on the cheap is also good. [link] [comments] |
Best way to keep books for small business Posted: 14 Apr 2019 02:41 PM PDT What's the best way to keep track of books monthly so you're 100% ready for tax season? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Apr 2019 01:46 PM PDT Apologies if I'm in the wrong subreddit My bf recently started a job at a small business which he and one other guy are going to take over in about a year or so. In order to get taxed as little as possible, they pay him half in cash that day and the rest on a paycheck. Idk, it just sounds sketchy to me and I've never heard of such a thing but he claims it's great and legit. Anyone? [link] [comments] |

Maxing my SEP and now need to hire an employee. Posted: 14 Apr 2019 11:42 AM PDT I have 3 businesses, 1 sole proper, 2 LLC. 1 of my LLC's is my primary money maker. I own an independent brokerage. I get paid via a 1099. Right now it's just me and a family member. Due to health issues my family member needs to step away, possibly permanently. I need to hire an employee who will perform the role of office manager/assistant/customer service while i'm the primary broker, I have other brokers in the firm but they are 1099 employees. I currently put 25% of my income into a SEP-IRA, and i'm near the sep ira max contribution (which is 55k a year in 2018). I'm very behind on retirement savings and finally in a position where I can put away that kind of money away. I understand I don't need to contribute to their SEP until they have worked for me for 3 years. I plan on finding someone to work with me long term, but at the 3 year mark to have to basically give them a 25% raise overnight is a daunting proposal. I could offer to contribute to their SEP at the start and give a lower salary so the total package is the same, but i feel like most people would focus on the lower salary, and not the total compensation. I have no problem contributing money to a retirement account for an employee, ideally contribute 5-10% of their salary, starting at the end of year 1 if they are a good fit. Is there any way I can keep putting away the same amount of money in my retirement account, without being forced to put an equal percentage in a potential employees? Ultimately i'm going to talk to my attorney/accountant (same guy). But i'm looking to have a little knowledge before speaking with him. [link] [comments] |
Should I start My Own Side Business? Posted: 14 Apr 2019 10:58 AM PDT I am 18, working currently for an electrical contractor and am working on my electrical apprenticeship. I'm 8 months into it at $13 an hour. I do side work for a friend of mine (Removing carpet/ tack strips, moving things, etc.) But its all at his personal home. Should I consider starting an actual business to write checks to instead of having him write personal checks that I deposit? I dont really know the pros/cons associated with having a business in my name or anything like that or if it would be worth my time and effort. [link] [comments] |
