My sister used my car for a trip to Santa Cruz, she ended up hitting another car. I have Geico insurance and have full coverage. The damage to the other car is the rear bumper, on my car it’s the front bumper. Should I let insurance handle it, or would it be wise to work something out outside of it? Insurance

Liability insurance: why is it per vehicle instead of per driver?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 08:23 PM PDT

Preamble: I did do a quick Google search and didn't find any satisfactory answers, so asking here in hopes of better results.

Why is vehicle liability insurance charged per vehicle, instead of per driver? (Or I might ask, why are the insurance companies allowed to charge us this way?) If you own one vehicle, for example, you may be charged $1,000/year for liability coverage. If you add a second vehicle, you will now be charged $2,000. How does this make sense, if you can only operate one vehicle at a time? You are not exposing the roads to twice the risk of exposure to your driving. You are not twice as liable. How can I be liable to crash two vehicles at the same time? Wouldn't it make more sense for me to carry liability as a driver, and maybe have my rates hiked based on how many miles I drive each vehicle?

This becomes completely ludicrous when we talk about people (not families or multi-driver policies, just single people) who own, say, 5 or 6 vehicles, maybe for hobbyists, motorcyclists, etc. How can the insurance companies get away with charging you *separately* for 5 vehicles worth of liability? How can they justify the assumption that you could be liable for 5 vehicles *simultaneously*?

    ELI5 I guess?

What happens after a car accident, when I wasn’t at fault?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 07:47 PM PDT

Nobody in my family has been in this situation so I was hoping Reddit could help.

About a month ago I was hit on my back bumper while on the freeway. My child and I were fine. Car was driveable and luckily the damage was mainly a dent and some scratches, and a very shaken up mom.

Since then I have gotten a new car seat, my car was fixed in the shop and I was given a rental car.(that guzzled gas and that sucked butt).

I also did end up getting check out at the Urgent Care because man was I sore! They gave me some meds, I pulled a muscle but I was fine.

So now what happens? I am making payments on my car(I've had it a little less than a year). Does that require anything special? Also they had the same insurance as me.

The insurance has paid for the repairs, car seat, rental car. But what happens now?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I have never had this happen.

Should I cancel insurance after someone hit my car totaled it?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 08:50 AM PDT

another person was driving my car and someone crashed into them and totaled it. Other driver took majority liability. Dont have a rental and its going to be a while before I get a new car. Have one more payment of ~$400 then no more for the rest of the year because I'm in assigned risk and have to pay the full year in six months. someone told me I should cancel it but I've pretty much already paid for the full year. Why keep $400 and give up six moths of coverage ( in case i do drive someone else car and I'm in an accident which is my fault it will prevent them from suing me directly)

Gap insurance through my insurance co. But not at fault accident question.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 07:19 PM PDT

Quick question about gap insurance. I have my instance though progressive and have gap insurance. I got hit over the weekend and my car is potentially totalled. Waiting for the shop until tomorrow due to the easter weekend. Fault has been 100% on the other party. (State farm insurance). In the event of my vehichle being totalled, I'll be around $1,500 under. I'm not sure how gap insurance will be handled and effect my rates if I need to use it.

    I'm located in Texas.

Was Rear Ended , What To Do?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 06:57 PM PDT

I was rear ended a month ago. Insurance has been calling me looking to settle. I got checked out immediately after the accident. The doc recommended massage therapy or physiotherapy . I haven't been able to get looked at, and now they are telling me that the best they can do is a couple hundred dollars. I know the upper limit is $5k, and i dont feel thats necessary, but i think a couple hundred is too little. I think $2k -$3k is fair.

What do i do? How do i get the number I want?

Is it possible for an insurance broker to request an exclusive insurance product from an insurance company?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 05:26 AM PDT

Could a broker negotiate the creation of an insurance product for many potential insurers if he sees a market opportunity? Could there be an exclusivity clause for such product (i.e. not available to other brokers)?

Which Company Should I get Auto Insurance With

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 03:50 PM PDT

Hello, I'm a 24 year old female who is looking for the cheapest auto insurance quote I can get when financing a car. I need suggestions on which insurance company I should be looking at to do this. I also have a clean record except a very recent speeding ticket and have never had insurance or a vehicle before. Thanks y'all!

I'm creating a hypothetical school budget for a class project and need some help estimating insurance figures. Please help me!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 11:58 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm taking a class on teaching in a multiage/multigrade school and one of the final assignments is we have to create a budget for a small private school (K-8, 50 students). I've been able to find figures online to estimate yearly costs for most of my expenditures, however when I try to find costs for insurance plans, nothing is provided upfront, it's all customized quotes (Which I understand - but it's frustrating for me as I try to complete my project). Obviously I'm not going to submit a request for a quote for a school that doesn't even exist, so I'm kind of desperate to find something. I've found one sample budget for a charter school that was just starting and had 100 students in K-2 that had General liability/umbrella insurance at $20,000/yr, but I have no idea if that is what I should be expecting for my school, since the parameters are pretty different. I'm still a college student with no real world experience yet and no real feeling for how much insurance costs, so I have no clue what's high or low. Would any of you who have experience in the real world with insurance have an idea as to how much money I should reasonably expect to allocate in my budget for liability insurance, fire insurance, and grounds insurance?

Thank you so much for in advance!

Sonnet insurance. Got first ticket. Still time to pay/challenge

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 10:52 AM PDT

I have Sonnet car insurance. 24 and just got a 10km speeding ticket. (Reduced from 97 on a 70. It just changed from a 90, I didnt notice and was tired after driving for 5 hours)

Anyways I still have 5 days to pay or take the day off work and go to court to say I am fighting it.

Is it legal to update my policy for first ticket forgiveness before I pay my ticket? Or would it even work? It says it covers minor tickets. My policy renewed in February.

Worried about the insurance Hike. Started driving two years ago. Just got my G liscence last month.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rejected Claim. Please Help!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 08:57 AM PDT

    Hi

I have a big issue I was hoping you could help with. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions, though it seems like I'm screwed.

In early February I went to see a urologist about a penile injury I experienced. He recommended I take a urethragram with the local Health & diagnostics Center. I really should have researched everything better. But it turns out this doctor wasn't the most trustworthy. He had previous complaints/reviews. During the visit he didn't seem like he cared about my issue and rushed me out of the door. I really did not need a urethragram at all and would have done better with less invasive treatments. To add more context, I had worked until the end of February. I quit due to the high stress and time that the job asked of me. But in my desperate state I thought I really needed the treatment and went through with the treatment in early March. I thought it was standard for insurance to at least cover everything at least 3 months after You quit a job. But of course, as I learned the hard way, the coverage ended in February. Just to see the urologist there was a charge of $180 for the February visit even with my insurance. I felt this was terrible because of the low quality service. The doctor did not even explain the invasive ness of the treatment or how much it would cost. For the March treatment the diagnostic center charged me an up front cost of $480. I was surprised because I wasn't made aware of this before. But because I was already at the facility I just decided to pay it. The treatment did absolutely nothing for me. Now the diagnostic center has given me a bill for $1800 because the insurance company rejected my claim. I know what you're thinking. How could I not have known the rules? I know. I should know this stuff. I just turned 27 and I've been stressed with this medical issue, family issues, college, and college debts. This has just made my life even worse. Could you guys offer any advice? Is there anything I can possibly do to get rid of another headache? I really don't have this kind of money. Please help

    Geico Question

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 07:21 AM PDT

Hey guys, I've been with Geico for almost 7 months now, my plan just renewed actually. Anyways, this month I had $300 extra dollars and I put that to my Geico bill early and paid it in the app leaving me with about a 1/3rd of my payment left. The issue is, I only had a little bit of money left over for spending and the app doesn't take your money instantly, it takes 3-5 days to clear and I made the payment on a Friday. My question is, now that my checking balance is lower than the $300 I sent to Geico, will it overdraft my account? The app says the payment was transmitted (just like the past payments I've made) but so far the money wasn't taken out of my debit. Is it just gonna sit there til I get $300 in my debit then auto withdraw out?

    Root Insurance Question

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 04:29 AM PDT

I paid in full for6 months and just started the test drive, I am getting good scores, but I am still worried, as others pointed out, that I could still be dropped. What happens if I get dropped after paying for 6 month? Will they refund my policy entirely?
