I just got fired from my job due to racist coworkers and I don't know what to do. Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:15 AM PDT To give a bit of context to the title of this post, let me begin with this. I live in La Mesa, California, and I've been working at this hospital as a nurse manager for about 10-11 years now. Last year, around October or November, a few of my coworkers started throwing racist comments at me, and when I told the higher ups about the situation, they said that they'll see what they can do about it. About a week later, I got fired from my job, and I don't know what to do. All of my family members are in the Philippines right now, and I don't even have the money to go there. What should I do? Should I file a lawsuit or something? [link] [comments] |
Mishandling of my daughters remains Posted: 05 Apr 2019 10:32 AM PDT (USA, ILLINOIS) Hey guys this is the first time I'm posting and I'm curious. In January of this year my gf and I lost our child. We had to terminate due to a genetic issue making her incompatible with life. Anyways, the social worker at the hospital where we had the operation done at gave us a list of funeral homes. I called them and found the cheapest because we were living off of my Income only at the time. Anyways the place we went to was nice at first, very apologetic for the situation explained what they would do. We ordered a cremation with having her ashes out into 2 lockets and 1 urn. This is where the nightmare began. I got a call from my gf while I was at work and she was hysterical. Apparently the funeral home shipped us the ashes inside of a box for some furniture store and inside of that was a plastic container that looked like it was for fishing bait. When she opened the container to see what it was as it was not marked, she found our daughter in a zip lock bag with a hole in it. Upon opening the container due to the hole in the bag, the ashes went onto my gf besides what she could save in the container. I was pissed, so I called them and ask what was going on. Apparently the person we had been working with had quit and we were her last case. The person had told the owners that we had an urn and lockets coming but the owner ignored that and sent us the remains without the items. We got the urn and lockets about a month later, damaged and not even the correct lockets. The urn has scratches and honestly looked like there had been ashes in it previously. The lockets were wrong so we couldn't do anything. My question is, do I have any legal ground to stand on? Forgot to mention we signed the paperwork for them to move our daughter from the hospital and cremate her pretty quickly but they waited and she sat by herself for three weeks before someone picked her up. Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2019 02:25 PM PDT To give some context on where we live: we're in a small neighborhood of about 5 homes; it's a very small cul-de-sac area in the middle of farmland. There aren't other homes or buildings for about 2 miles. I have 3, young, elementary aged children that all have a very serious case of epilepsy: it does not take much to cause an episode. By some luck, two of our neighbor's kids also have epilepsy, and are also around the same age as our kids. For the past few years they have been able to successfully group together and go to the end of our community to catch the bus. The family who used to own the house at the street recently moved out, and there is a new owner who has been an absolute hell to everyone. From the second day on, he has harassed our kids telling them to get off his property, even though they were technically on a public road. Through the grapevine he somehow learned that a majority of the kids were epileptic, and has installed strobe lights in his front lawn. These are VERY powerful, VERY fast lights that you can not avoid walking by. We've contacted the police, and they won't even come out to talk to the guy. We've contacted the school to see if they could come into the neighborhood to pick up our kids, and they really can't: the bus just couldn't drive into our neighborhood and easily back out. They have to be picked up on the street. What can we do? EDIT: Just to clarify, we have confronted the neighbor and yes he intentionally did it knowing the kids were epilitic. He hates kids, and has made it very apparent even calling the lights "brat repellent". [link] [comments] |
No water for 3 weeks, what can I do? Posted: 05 Apr 2019 04:15 AM PDT The water company where I live has shut off the water for my entire street, after they shut it off without any warning they told us it would be down for a few hours. It has been down for 3 weeks today. They keep telling us it will be done the day after tomorrow unless that day falls on a weekend, then they tell us Monday. Again, they have been telling us that for 3 weeks! I've been buying bottled water so I can water my pets and I've been driving about 20 mins every other morning so I can shower but now I've developed a skin infection from not showering enough! I also have to drive down the road to the grocery store to use the bathroom and I can only use that from 6am-10pm! Someone please tell me I can sue these asshats! [link] [comments] |
Found out I am the executor of my father’s will, just some general questions. Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:20 AM PDT This isn't a "sexy" post that could end up as a story on Nightline, I just need general advice. Basically it's me and my two sisters. My one sister is a nurse and will handle any medical decisions and since I live two towns over from my parents I am the executor and will be in charge of selling everything and splitting it all 1/3. A lawyer was selected to mediate this I guess. Aside from my sisters arguing over who gets this quilt or that plate...what pitfalls can I avoid by doing work in advance? Truth be told it's probably 20 years down the road before this happens, but I just found out the other day that I would be executor. I live in the great state of NY btw. [link] [comments] |
[US, CA] Dentist offered me $30,000 to lie to my insurance company - insurance fraud Posted: 05 Apr 2019 02:19 AM PDT Hey, Im in California and i need a legal advice regarding medical insurance fraud. 2 years ago in 2017, a dentist called me and told me they have a special offer for first time patients, which is to get teeth cleaning and get $200. I went to his clinic and got my teeth cleaned and received a $200 check. A week after that, i checked my dental bills online and found out that he charged my dental insurance around $1000 dollars including stuff they he didn't do. I called the dentist to ask him about that and he told me no worries, if i need anything extra regarding my teeth it will be free of charge; because of this i knew that he is sketchy and decided not to deal with him again. Then one year later in 2018, he called me again and said he need to talk to me in person regarding my medical insurance and insist to speak with him. Thus i went to his clinic to speak with him and he offered me to get cure for back pain and in return he will offer me $200. I refused and said no thanks. Then 3 months later, I checked my medical bills online and found out that he billed my insurance $10,000 dollars. I spoke with him regarding the bill and he was telling me bullsh** and that it was a mistake bla bla ... i decided to report him but I got busy with work, and this year I reported him to my medical insurance company for fraud. I spoke with my medical insurance customer service regarding this issue and at first they didn't take the issue seriously and told me they can't do anything because he is out-side their network and they don't have his info!! I got mad and insisted to them to investigate my dentist and gave them his info. Then one day later my dentist called my and told me to come to speak with him, i went to his clinic and he seemed nervous and then he offered me $30,000 CASH and in return that i speak with my insurance and tell them that it was a miss understanding and there is no fraud.. I refused and told him i will speak with him later because i was shocked and didn't know what to do! What should i do in this situation? My insurance is not taking the matter seriously and i think they told him that I claimed he is fraud! Am I eligible for California insurance fraud prevention act ? Also im a little bit nervous because i know that he can get in jail because of this and he know know my name and my address, so if he is desperate he can hurt me. [link] [comments] |

Serious Defamation via SnapChat issue (PA) Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:21 AM PDT So, long story short I am a private school teacher at a prestigious boarding school in PA. One of my former students (14) was expelled from the school in December for cyber bullying and online threats to other students. He comes from a prominent family and his family does little to curb his behaviors that led to his expulsion. I used to be his classroom advisor and was always on good terms with the family. However, this week a few of my students posted screenshots of a Snapchat post from his account to an anonymous anti bullying reporting system. In this post he posted defaming material about a few of my colleagues and me. I have a copy of the post and he posted a meme of my face with the word "rapist" underneath. As a teacher this is a very serious claim to make and it is very much defamation of character. Needless to say I've never even received a parking ticket in my life let alone a felony. I spoke with a lawyer however she quoted me around $5-10,000 for this case. She also said that this family would aggressively defend against a defamation case, so I should be prepared for the maximum cost and much much more. Being a teacher with a modest income, I can't pursue a lengthy legal fight with a rich family. What are my other options? I have been considering sending a certified letter to the family explaining the post is inappropriate and asking for an apology. However aside from that I am not sure what to do. This is a serious allegation and ignoring it seems like the wrong move. This is my livelihood and I have to consider the ramifications of this accusation to my career. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. It would really mean a lot to hear your take on this. I have been feeling like I have no one in my corner and am facing a difficult choice. Posted: 04 Apr 2019 08:12 PM PDT I wrote a detailed post about this about two weeks ago when this happened, so check my post history for that. Also I'm on mobile so apologies for crappy formatting. I'm in college in upstate NY and I don't have a car on campus because it's expensive. I'm 20 years old and I found out I was pregnant and subsequently decided I wanted an abortion because I'm in no position to care for a child. There is a Planned Parenthood very close to my university, but the earliest appointment they had was a week away, and I found a clinic an hour away that had availability in three days, so I opted to go there instead. Because I don't have a car, I rely on Uber and lyft to get me places. My appointment was at 11:30am so at 9:58am my Uber arrived and he immediately seemed uncomfortable. After about five minutes in the car, he asked, "are we going to a planned parenthood?" I said no (because we weren't), but it set off alarm bells that he would even ask that. The destination I put in was just the name of the doctor and the address of the clinic, there was nothing that would suggest it was an abortion clinic. After a few more minutes he asked, "are we going to an abortion clinic?" I was shocked; I had no idea what to say, so I just remained quiet. He then said "I know it's none of my business, but..." and proceeded to mention something about his wife being pregnant, how awful the procedure was (and proceeded to explain it in graphic detail), and that "there is so much they don't tell you". He then said "you're going to regret this decision for the rest of your life" and that I was making a mistake. It took all of my strength not to start crying but I managed to keep it together by looking out the window and avoiding his gaze. After we were about halfway to the destination, he suddenly pulls over with no warning. There was a gas station and a closed antiques store, and around us was farmland and forest. He said "I'm sorry, but I can't take you the rest of the way. I can take you back to [my city], but you won't be able to find another Uber out here." I got out of the car and immediately started crying. I called my parents each three times but they didn't pick up. Then I called my boyfriend and he picked up right away. He managed to calm me down and told me to let the clinic know what was happening and to call some local cab companies. My Uber driver hung around for about 10-15 minutes and asked once more if I wanted to go back with him and I declined. After he left, a cab came and I got to my appointment (an hour late). I reported the driver to Uber and the next day I filed a police report with my city's police department. Someone on Uber's team got in touch with me after I told them about the police report and called me to get a detailed account of what happened. I told them everything on a call that was recorded, and the rep mentioned that it appeared the driver had taken a less direct route to get me to my destination prior to dropping me off. Within a few days they reached out again and told me the driver had been banned from Uber. They also mentioned that it didn't appear he'd ever done this before judging from his user ratings. However, I'd like to pursue further legal action against the driver if at all possible. Do I have a case? What should my next steps be? I reached out to a law firm and a few legal aid societies but nothing has happened. I'm not sure what I should do now. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2019 06:00 AM PDT We had some financial difficulties back in 2017 when I lost my job and got behind on a few bills. Once I started working again, we brought our accounts current except for one, a credit card with about a $3,500 balance. The account was charged off and sent to collections. Fast forward to about a month ago, and we were served with a lawsuit for the outstanding debt. I did not want to have a default judgement entered against us, so I requested a hearing and figured I'd contact the collection agency and see if we can setup a payment plan or settlement prior to going to court. They told me that we needed to contact their lawyer to make payment arrangements at this point. So I called their lawyer's office, gave them my information and they transferred me to whoever is working on the case, he did not answer, so I left a message. When I didn't get a call back the next day, I did it again. It's now been two weeks and I've been calling and leaving messages daily for him saying that I want to pay the debt, and he doesn't respond. On their website they have a form to fill out to setup a payment plan or arrange to pay the debt, I filled that out a week ago and they haven't contacted me. So my question is, I don't dispute that I owe this debt, I just want to pay it before the court date so I don't get a default judgement against me, is there anything I can do to do that or am I going to have to go to court next week? Tl;dr: got sued for a debt I agree I owe, trying to contact the plaintiff/plaintiff attorney to pay it before court, but they are not responsive. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Am I legally obligated to inform my whereabouts to my parents at 18? Posted: 05 Apr 2019 09:37 AM PDT My mom is a real pain in the ass when it comes to myself leaving the house to do stuff that she isn't informed on, you could say she's very over-protective and it's very annoying and it's breaking my trust issues with her because every time I don't respond to her text messages, she threatens to call the cops to file a missing child report (2 minutes after not responding to her text). She has already threatened to call the cops 4 times as a 17 year old male. I will be turning 18 in 10 days and I'm wondering if she can still do this bs? I am in Canada Ontario [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2019 02:27 PM PDT (I don't know if this is the right place to post , please let me know if it isn't) About 3 weeks ago , my boyfriend started to complain about a really bad headache and it hasn't gone away since . He is experiencing nausea , stomach aches , vomiting ,fever , (and worst of all) heart and chest pains . He has constantly told his mom to take him to get checked up but his mom says they don't have money . This pisses me off a lot because my boyfriend and I know it's a lie . His mom owns a restaurant that's very popular in the neighborhood. She spends a monthly $800 in clothes from high end stores & goes vacationing at LEAST every month . She's always buying new stuff for herself but always has the audacity to tell us she has no money for anything . And it seems like his father doesn't care enough even though he makes $30 an hour. Monday night , one of my boyfriend's ears started bleeding . This is when he told his mom that it was serious to which she caved in a took him to a local urgent care place . He was checked out and he had a double ear infection . The nurse told him that his constant headaches might be a sign of a tumor or internal bleeding and that he should be taken to a primary care hospital . After getting a prescription for his ear infection , they sent him home. Both of his parents are now refusing to take him to the hospital to get checked out because they say they don't have the money to pay off the hospital bills . My boyfriend's health is deteriorating & his headaches are getting worse , we both are incredibly worried there is something wrong that isn't being taken care of because of how selfish his parents are . We are both underage . I'm 16 & he's 17 . Neither of us has a job . I am wondering what there is to do . Is there a way to get him the treatment he needs without his parents ? Would we have to pay money? Any other advice on what to do ? We live in the US (Denver , CO). [link] [comments] |
Black Mold and Renting Questions Posted: 05 Apr 2019 10:47 AM PDT I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. My boyfriend's landlord has been very dismissive about issues going on in his apartment. We recently discovered black mold in the utility room, and we had some suspicions it may have grown into the bathroom behind the walls. After months of having other things unfixed and not addressed by the landlords, my boyfriend sent them photos of the utility room damage, and demanded they come and fix everything, or he would call the department of health. They are now gutting the entire bathroom, as there was mold everywhere in there as well. They have done nothing to ventilate the apartment, we have done it ourselves, they did not warn us of the harm, or to wear masks, or pack up our stuff in vacuum bags. They simply came in and tore the bathroom apart to expose mold. I only found out that this was much more harmful than we thought by doing research. My question is, should he be given a safe place to stay while this work is being taken care of for free, and should he still have to pay his rent? From reading things online, it seems as if he shouldn't be paying rent to them, and should be given a place to stay while there is mold being blown around the apartment. Here are some photos of the bathroom right now. The utility room has it much worse. but they haven't started work in there yet. Edit: We are in Rhode island. [link] [comments] |
(US FL) Ex Wife has not Registered Car in her name or obtained insurance Posted: 05 Apr 2019 04:24 AM PDT I obtained a divorce in late 2018 and in the divorce my now ex wife was awarded one of the vehicles. Both vehicles were registered in my name. At this point she has still refused to register the vehicle in her name and obtain insurance. Admittedly she spent over a month in the hospital in the beginning of the year that hit her hard financially. However, it's now April. My insurance company has been understanding and they have been willing to work with me and her on this, but at this point I want a complete separation of us. What are my current options? The divorce papers do not stipulate a time frame in regards to her obtaining insurance or registering the car in her name. So what are my options in forcing this issue? [link] [comments] |
Evidence of neighbor pouring out gas can on base of 70+ year Live Oak Posted: 04 Apr 2019 06:31 PM PDT (FL) This was a targeted attack. She poured out an entire 5 gallon can at the base of a mature Live Oak on the border of our properties. It has (had?!) branches over her land, but the entire base of the tree is on my property. I have a security system and video footage of the incident. It was my neighbor 100%, she walks back onto her property and towards her house with the can on the video. This happened this previous week, and the tree still looks about the same. I'm filing a police report tomorrow morning. She did it at night, and the video does not show her face clearly, but it is her. I've had problems with her in the past, but this will be the first time the police are involved. Will the video be enough to have her arrested? I've lived next to this person for four years, and we've had disagreements before (noise complaints mostly) but nothing close to warranting this sort of thing. [link] [comments] |
Neighbor told UPS delivery guy my house was vacant and I was dead.... Posted: 04 Apr 2019 05:07 PM PDT Location: Dallas, TX. A bit of background: I have a bad neighbor. Apparently before I purchased the house, this neighbor kept a garden on the previous owner(of my house) property. I have asked him to stop mowing my yard and stop re establishing his garden on my property, he will not abide. I put up "no trespassing" signs on my property and he trespassed and turned the signs around to face me. Sometimes he gets mad my lawn is not mowed. He has called code on me, and they have told me my yard is in compliance and I don't need to do anything, and if this neighbor harasses me I should call the police. This has been going on about 8 years. The main issue: Last week, I noticed that he had again trespassed and mowed my lawn. Today, I got a call from UPS, the operator told me that a driver had tried to deliver a package to my address, but that a neighbor told him I was dead and that no one had been living there for a year. The UPS driver did not deliver the package and they called me to find a new delivery address. I straightened it out and had the driver bring the package back to my house. I asked the driver, "when you were delivering this did you seek out and ask my neighbor whether or not you should deliver this package?" He said "no, the neighbor at XX19 approached my vehicle and told me I should not drop this package because the owner was dead and nobody had been in there for a year." Do I have any recourse here? I believe this is another harassment tactic by this guy to mess with my life. All I want is for my property to be respected and to receive my mail and deliveries. Thanks for reading and responding. Legal Guardianship of Disabled adult Posted: 05 Apr 2019 09:54 AM PDT Kansas, Sedgwick County: I am making this post on behalf of my brother, He is 19 this month. Recently our mother has kicked him out of her residence and moved to a new residence without letting him know the address. She has been collecting disability on him for quite some time, but he just found out. A month after he was kicked out, he came to me for help as he was homeless, jobless and had not birth certificate or social security card to help with rectifying this situation. We got him established and he has been working for about 3 weeks now. He reported to the social security office that he was no longer living there and she was asked to return the money. Now she has filed a claim for guardianship of a disabled adult. He is no more disabled than any other 18 year old. I just need to know if a template exists for him to write a letter contesting the guardianship claim. [link] [comments] |
[UPDATE] I lost my wallet and I don’t know where to start replacing everything Posted: 05 Apr 2019 11:38 AM PDT Link to previous post: Hey guys so I just wanted to give an update! About two hours after I lost my wallet, I had a message in my Instagram from someone who found it! Apparently they picked up on the side of the road. Almost everything was in there! The only things that were gone was my driver license, my debit card and my credit card. And those are easy to replace. I'm grateful that my social security card and my resident green card was still there in my wallet. Since it would have been almost impossible to replace and certainly would've derailed my life for a long time. Anyways, I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me! I think my single mom is planning to abandon the family - Ontario, Canada Posted: 04 Apr 2019 10:38 PM PDT Hi reddit, I think my mom is planning to abandon our family. Some background- my dad left the family almost a decade ago, my mom never remarried. I think she probably has both NPD and BPD. She has been emotionally abusive and manipulative since forever, but much worse after my dad left. She has a file with Children's Aid after one of my siblings spoke to a counsellor, but all they did was speak to her about emotional abuse once. I am a university student [21] living away from home. I have two younger siblings living with my mom still [17, 11] and an older sister [22] living with her as well, already finished school and working full-time. She definitely does not love us, and we have all accepted that years ago. I do not think she has any empathy for us. I am worried that she has been planning to fully abandon our family. I was looking through her computer and I found evidence of her remortgaging the house that was already fully paid, and of her withdrawing large sums of money every week. She makes decent money above the median family income in ontario which is around 80k. She has a boyfriend from a country in Europe that she visits sometimes when I am home for break, and I know she has thought about marrying him and has joked about going to live there forever. My [17] brother a couple months ago experienced his first psychotic episode, and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I think this is somewhat a blessing in disguise. Looking back, I think she was about to leave before this happened. She kept saying she might go on a vacation for a while, and kept asking me when I was coming home for Christmas. I found out her financial situation during this break. At that point she was $180k in new debt.. starting from when she started dating her boyfriend a year ago. My brother's episode was very scary and he entered inpatient treatment for 1 month. My mom would not believe the diagnosis at first and kept asking me if schizophrenia is curable. Eventually I think she accepted the situation and has been relatively lowkey. But recently she has been asking me what I plan to do in a month when the school year ends, and other strange questions and comments that she used to make before my brother got sick. He has been stable lately and is responding well to medication, so I think she thinks she's in the clear. She has also been pressuring my older sister to think about investing in a cottage together, "for the future family", and gets very angry when she refuses. My mom has been doing this also since she started dating her boyfriend. She still does this to this day. We think she is trying to find some way to hook my sister onto her debt. This is why we fear a more permanent "vacation". My older sister is likely to get a permanent job soon, leaving short contracts behind, and we think this is itching her on to keep pressuring my sister. We think she would still leave even without an "investment" being bought, as long as there is some stability present. My older sibling is thinking about moving out, but we worry about our mom's reaction. We think she could become dangerous and violent and we still have other siblings dependent on her. We don't know what to do. We think there are two practical options; - Either my sister tells her she got a permanent job and we let my mom leave and abandon us. We let Children's Aid figure shit out and rely on family friends. - Or my sister keeps saying she has short contract jobs only, effectively chaining my mom down. We think with this option she will get more and more abusive. It will be a while before everyone becomes adults. And she might decide to leave anyway. This is stressful. And we don't know what to do about it. We do not have a case for physical violence which is the only thing that will take kids away in our region. We do not have other family to rely on. We don't want to be under my mom's abuse and manipulation. We are scared of her leaving because there are two dependents on the line still. What is likely to happen in these scenarios? We are in Ontario, Canada. TL;DR: For various reasons (remortgaging house, new 100k+ debt, boyfriend abroad, comments hinting, possibility of a stable guardian to replace her) I think my mom is planning to abandon the family and leave the country. We believe she is waiting for my sibling to get a permanent job, and will then leave. We can either let her leave and deal with the consequences, or my sibling pretends to be on contract and suffer abuse until our youngest sibling can leave the house. She might leave regardless. We are in Ontario, Canada. What would happen to us legally in the possible situations, and what should we do or could do in preparation? Thank you, sorry if things are unclear. [link] [comments] |
[AZ] My child was struck by a car in a pedestrian crosswalk Posted: 05 Apr 2019 06:46 AM PDT My child was crossing a busy street in a crosswalk and was struck by a car. My child is alive (thank goodness) and is recovering well, all things considered. I have already visited a lawyer twice but I guess I take really terrible notes because I'm still left confused, and it's costing me money to go back with follow up questions now. Here's what I know so far. Please correct me if I'm wrong and give me any advice you can. Thank you. The driver is not well off, and they were not under the influence. It was just a matter of them not paying attention. Their insurance appears to be $100k but I can't get that information directly from them yet. They are being charged with "Causing serious physical injury or death by moving violation and right of way at crosswalk." I don't want to sue the driver in a civil case. I don't want to ruin this person's life. All I want is for my child to get some kind of benefit out of this for all that they have suffered and how this will affect their future. The hospital has placed a lien on the payout. It's for about $230k. I have really good health insurance and should only have to pay around $2000 to meet our deductible, and the rest of my child's medical bills should be covered 100%. The lawyer I spoke with has advised me to call the driver's insurance and tell them about the lien and ask what their policy limits are for the driver. If they still don't disclose the amounts, mention the lien to them. If they still don't tell me, I'm not sure what to do. Call my own insurance and file a claim for underinsured motorist coverage. He said they shouldn't even question this and should send me a check, which isn't going to go against the lien. Call the hospital and give them a sob story and beg for them to drop the lien because my insurance should have covered everything and they are basically stealing insurance payout money from my child. Would this even work? I am skeptical. I'm entitled to restitution as long as I file all the paperwork and receipts with the court before the court date of the driver. This is supposed to cover their medical expenses and my lost time from work. This should not go against the lien. Here is where I get lost... The lawyer talked to me about conservatorship, but to go that route we have to file some kind of lawsuit right? Is there any point in doing this if it's all going to go to the hospital lien anyway? I was also under the impression that if we file a lawsuit that will require a lawyer, which means they will take 1/3 of the winnings in the lawsuit, which still won't leave any for my child and might actually cost me MORE money, right? And if the hospital drops the lien, wouldn't that mean we get the full $100k from the driver's insurance policy? What are the chances of that happening? This whole ordeal is so confusing and stressing me out. Please help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
My Uncle is a vulnerable adult who is about to go through a divorce with his manipulative wife. Posted: 05 Apr 2019 09:12 AM PDT For context this is in the UK. My uncle who is 40yo is severely deaf in both ears and has for a number of years received government aid for his disability. This has not let it stop him and has lived a fulfilling life culminating in the birth of his daughter. He had been married to his wife for a number of years, 12 to be exact. However things have started to go severely downhill and it got to the point where his mother, my grandmother, had to call the police to report a suspected abuse case. It was taken no further by request of my uncle due to him "not wanting to make a scene". He recently finally got the courage to leave and he has not felt freedom and relief quite like it, he now however is stuck and quite frankly afraid. This partner of his has turned up to his work and smashed his van, she's threatening to remove complete access to his daughter and is being incredibly uncompliant with the whole thing, to the point where she threatened suicide in front of his daughter on the phone to try and bring him back. I'm on here asking for some sort of guidance as to where he can go and what support he has available. He has very limited funds and is becoming increasingly frustrated with himself due to the limitations of his disability which often sees him being unable to hear his daughter down the phone. Any tips would be great! [link] [comments] |
What can I do if a company stole(?) my game translation? Posted: 05 Apr 2019 01:22 AM PDT I've translated a few games as a hobby while I was learning a new language. It took me several hundreds of hours, but I released them as fan translations, or free patches that can be applied to the original games. Recently a new organization has taken one of my fan translations and is advertising to sell it on online marketplaces. When I contacted them, they told me they have already bought the license from the original game developer. However, they also asked to buy the rights to my translation for a (very) small sum. I declined, and they said they would continue with their own translation and we parted amicably. However, judging from available screenshots of the game, it is the same exact fan translation that I made and they do not plan on honoring their promise to me. Do I have any rights in this situation or do I have no choice but see my work turned into their commercial product? I'm from the States if it makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2019 12:50 PM PDT I was at lunch today and me and my friend got school lunch. It came with chocolate milk. My friend took a sip and was disgusted. He started pouring it out onto the tray and it acted like silly puffy or jello coming out in slow, mucus-like strings and globs. A lunch assistant told us that the expiration date on the carton doesn't say the year of expiration but that he looked into it and it expired on April 20th, 2018. I took a video of the milk coming out of the carton and my friend might be sick, is there anything i could do/should do so this never happens again? [link] [comments] |
Update: My mom got hit by a car in a grocery store parking lot Posted: 05 Apr 2019 12:15 PM PDT Hello All! Link to original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/auouqr/my_mom_got_hit_by_a_car_in_a_grocery_store/ Just would like to say a big THANK YOU to the r/legaladvice community. I really appreciate all the advice and personal messages of encouragement that you all sent me. After a month of getting everything together, my mothers claim is going to be submitted to the insurance through the lawyers that my mom is working with. Some of you offered great suggestions and were 100000000x correct in the advice you gave us. Since the accident, my mother DID NOT contact anyone on the drivers insurance side. we took all the advice given to heart, I had a sit down talk for several hours going over the comments you wrote and explain the legal terms to her. My mother spoke with her lawyers and waited for the hospital lawyers to contact her. About a week ago, my mother was contacted by the Kaiser hospital lawyer regarding final bills and treatments sustained in the accident. When she told them she has not contacted the insurance, the hospital lawyer was ELATED! They wanted ALLLLLLL THEIR MONEY. You all nailed it, not just the copays my mother had to pay but ALL the service fees rendered that were automatically being paid by the insurance and what the hospital fronted. The lawyer stated my mother had done everything correctly and will be giving her a total amount necessary in a document form to put in the claim. On the work front, my mother is using her work lawyer who takes 30%. My mother was able to tally all the expenses necessary and what she would ask for, then added lawyers 30% fee on top of that total to get the final balance of pay out. Based on what all the lawyers said, this claim should go through smoothly as the driver has admitted fault and the police report is being included in the original claim. I will send a final update once the claim is approved/or if something pops up I may need input on, but overall it looks great thanks in large part to you all and your advice!!! My mother is scared of lawyers and dealing with hospitals, she insisted I send a heartfelt thank you to this community for all the advice and input that helped us navigate this situation. THANK YOU! :) [link] [comments] |
