Posted: 13 Apr 2019 06:50 AM PDT As the title says, my dad just died and left everything to his kids and grandkids (there are six of us total). My niece, who is 15, inherited about $60,000 in stock. Due to her poor home situation, she currently lives with her mother's sister. Her father (my brother) and mother are both junkies and I expect them to blow their portion of the inheritance quickly. How can I protect my niece's inheritance from her dad and current legal guardian until she becomes an adult. My dad's sister is the executor of his will and shares my concern. Thank you for your time and help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:55 AM PDT In January a large YouTube channel that I follow - with 2.7+ million subscriber - promoted a giveaway by a "charity" for a lamborghini. You had to pay $1 for 1 entry. I paid $10, and then had some double entry promotion going on so I got 20 entries. The giveaway was supposed to end in March, but when I checked back on the website last month, they added an extra month to the giveaway. They were trying to raise $1 million for charity, but at the time the giveaway was supposed to end in March, the bar on their website showed that they only raised $75k. I just checked the website today, and it is removed. This giveaway was also promoted by another huge YouTuber with millions of subscribers. In addition to that, I noticed that the second YouTuber posted on his social media that he bought a lamborghini - the exact same model and color of the one that was being given away. I still have the email that shows the company and confirms my entries, but if I click on the link to the website or the social media, the pages are blocked for being malware. Can I do anything about this? These YouTubers promoted a fake giveaway and collected over $75k, then the charity and giveaway completely vanished. I have a suspicion one was directly involved in the scam because he literally owns the lambo that was supposed to be given away. How would I go about suing these guys? Would a lawyer even listen to my case? I think that they still have the videos promoting the company up on their YouTube channels and Instagram pages. [VA] I'm in Virginia. One of the channels is made of Canadian guys who I believe are currently in LA, and the other is 2 American guys who I also believe are in LA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 03:26 PM PDT Right off the bat, I understand that other people have much bigger problems then this, and I know that hair grows back. Sorry if this post is all over the place. I know no one one Reddit can give me all the answers but I'm wondering if this is something worth pursuing or not. I also know that there are a ton of points where I should I should have said stop and asked for another stylist but I've never had a bad experience with these people and I'm kind of shy about speaking up. I had very long, healthy hair (down to my ass) that I've been growing out for 3+ years. My hair is directly tied to my income, I'm a (hair) model and I'd say I'm probably looking at losing about $5-10,000 depending on what gigs I can still do with extensions (these are jobs booked specifically because of my hair up until the end of this year as well as paid social media advertisements). This isn't including income I would have made booking other gigs for the rest of the year (I made $30,000 last year in mostly jobs tied directly to my hair). A week ago, I went into a well known and reputable salon for a 2-3 inch TRIM. This isn't a Great Clips or Sports Clips type situation, this is a well known, expensive salon. The amount I wanted off was specified both when I made the appointment, in the notes at the front desk, and when the stylist was cutting my hair. I have a normal go-to stylist there but on the day of my appointment she was out sick. I was assigned a new stylist instead (I wasn't notified at the time that they were brand new to the salon and this was their first job out of school). Everything went well with the cut, but after they finished blow drying I noticed it was uneven (like a two or three inch difference). I pointed it out and they immediately apologized and went to fix it (first red flag, should have asked for someone else). At this point I was angled away from the mirror. Halfway through they went to ask the manager a question which I now realize was related to the cut and not just a general question (second red flag). I looked in the mirror and my hair was at least 5 inches off (probably more) at this point. This was probably when I really should have stopped them, but once again I had faith in the salon and five inches wasn't a huge deal because my hair was so long. When they came back I specifically asked NO shorter and just keeping it as long as possible at that point. I was facing the mirror and they were working on the back and I just hear her mutter "crap" under her breath. I immediately told her to stop and show me the back. I have NO clue for the life of me how but a large chunk of my hair was chopped to the base of my NECK. I asked to speak to a a manager and I was in tears at this point. The manager was really kind and explained she was new. But when I started crying she was rather rude saying "it's JUST hair it will grow back, you don't need to be making a scene" things along that line. I was really panicked at this point. She offered to have their senior master stylist come in to fix it the next day but I wanted nothing to do with her at that point, asked for a hair tie and left. The next day I went to my moms hairstylist who cut my hair when I was younger and he was shocked. He said that in his experience a salon of that caliber shouldn't have someone who would eff up that bad and he'd ask around. He also mentioned the possibility of me trying to sue that salon. I just wanted him to fix it and he did a fairly good jo by cutting my hair into a v-shape, but it would be considered a long bob and in no way the style I have bookings for or the style that gets me jobs generally. Then today my moms stylist called me back (he's been doing my families hair for years and is a good friend) and said he had heard from a pretty reputable source that the stylist was the child of either the general manager or owner of that salon and wasn't qualified to work there. He said I should most definitely pursue legal action and that if this had happened in his salon the owner would already be making me offers. The original salon has not called me back at all, but I was fairly rude leaving. Question is, is this worth pursuing? I feel like any lawyer will laugh at me because it's just hair. I'm also really young and still working on my undergrad so this isn't a full time career. I just don't know what to do at this point. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2019 02:07 AM PDT I was working in a bubble tea shop in BC, Canada (part-time). There are some mandatory training that I had to complete (1 month), like operating bubble tea machines. There was this creep that tried to ask me out but I rejected him. He then told my boss about this and the fucking bitch fires me immediately through a text and said that she would only pay me a salary of 2 weeks. I worked more than that. I then went and argued with the creep and he seemed to enjoy it, and called me a "cutie". I then told my boss that I'm going to contact my school for this and she replied to me that, "oh you dare threaten me, your getting no money." She then deleted me from wechat. I know that BC has an ESA states that mandatory training must be paid, but I'm not sure if it protects me because I'm still under age. I have wrote an email to servicebc, but I'm still not sure what to do. Am i legible of filing an complain. And if yes what and where do I file the complain to. Thankyou so much for helping. This bubble tea place sucks. [link] [comments] |
Vice Principal in charge of school sends ass/thong selfie to my husband .... Posted: 13 Apr 2019 06:48 AM PDT Small private school. Vice Principal sends ass thong selfie to my husband which I find among other text messages. My son (10) sees it. She is also the teacher of both of my children. VP also breaks my requested confidentiality by disclosing information to my husband that I did not want shared. Do I have any recourse w her or school? A suit? Clearly I'm divorcing my husband. What about him — does this absolve me of any financial obligation to him? I work he stays home obviously screwing around. Nj. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 06:27 PM PDT My dad is a real piece of shit. Skipped out and bailed on my mom when we were growing up and never helped her whatsoever. Eventually when my mom could afford it, she went after him for child support. He lost tremendously in court in Texas and she was even nice enough to forgive $30k to make the payments more affordable for him. But he still owed a very large sum, which I believe was still north of $130k. My mom died of cancer a couple of years ago while I was abroad in the UK studying for my Bachelor's/Masters degrees. Does he still owe the estate of my mom the child support even if she's dead? EDIT: The legaladvice bot wanted to move this thread to leagaladviceUK. I can assure you Texas is not in the UK. Vaccination without parental consent Posted: 13 Apr 2019 03:47 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm 17 and I live in Michigan. I am unvaccinated by my parents choice. This summer my girlfriend is going to be doing some traveling and has a decent chance of coming in contact with something like Meseales. My parents are not convinced of the risk. At this point I am only a few months from being 18, but it will be after she comes back. Is there anyway I could get this treatment before than? [link] [comments] |
Is there a time requirement for my lawyers to give me my money? Posted: 13 Apr 2019 05:37 AM PDT I recently settled in a court case. My lawyers told me it would take about 4 weeks for them to receive the money and then they would take out their fees and give the rest to me. They received the money 6 weeks ago and i still haven't seen my share. When I call, they tell me that the boss "still needs to calculate their fee" I can't imagine why this is taking so long. Is there a time limit to how long they can just hang on go mg money? (I live in New York) [link] [comments] |
[MD] My sister stole my dog while I am out of the country. Posted: 13 Apr 2019 09:45 AM PDT Backstory: I lived in San Francisco and moved to Sydney AUS in December. To expedite the move issue, I discussed the option of having my dog fostered by friends or family. One family member who lives in Indiana volunteered. Ultimately, this turned out to be a terrible choice as she wasn't honest with her leasing office, the dane is over the weight limit, and they wouldn't let them renew their lease (conveniently up at the end of February) with my dog still there. He is not chipped, but I have tons and tons of pictures of him on social media and of course dozens of people in my social circle who know he is mine. As a last minute option, my sister offered to foster him. She is a lifelong owner of boxers and loves dogs a lot. I felt comfortable with this placement despite the fact she and I don't have the strongest relationship. One of her boxers is quite aggressive and attacked my dane three times. On the last time, my dog defended himself and got the upperhand and inflicted $600 worth of a vet trip to patch up the boxer's neck. My sister was quite disturbed and alarmed by this, as anyone would be. She waffled between finding an alternative situation for him or trying to work with the two males to get along. I understand it can be difficult to encourage males to be friendly once they've fought to this degree, but I was hopeful she could work it out because I didn't really have many other options. Unbeknownst to me, she rehomed my dog and didn't inform me until a week later when I told her that I was going to place him in long term boarding for the 6 month quarantine required for Australian import. She wrote this long email pouring her heart out as to why she made this choice, acknowledging I wouldn't accept it, etc. I called her, we discussed it, and I let her know that just from a logical and reasonable standpoint this was unfeasible. When I asked where she sent him, she wouldn't tell me. After the phone call, I texted her to figure out arrangements for the boarders to pick him up. She blocked my phone number and refuses to discuss the issue anymore. What is my recourse? Is my only option to spend $2000 on a last minute ticket to Baltimore and call the cops on her? Edit: Regarding the airfare, I have researched them and they range from $1500-$3600. I don't have that money on hand and am extremely freaked out by the situation. My dog is incredibly important to me. I am already beating myself up for choosing to move despite it being a once in a lifetime opportunity. Obviously, if I knew this would be the result of it, I would have not done so. Help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:54 AM PDT My grandma is 90 and we're very close. However she lives with my mother, who abused me my entire life. I'm no-contact with my mother and have been for several years. Grandma calls me in the middle of the night to talk to me. My mother started sending me text messages (which I am saving) from Grandma's cell phone telling me that she "owns this number" and that it's a "gift" that Grandma can contact me at all, and told me "it's almost Easter, it's time to let go of your bitterness towards me." She then claimed I was "threatening" her by saying "please don't contact me again," so before it could get worse, I blocked the number and sent Grandma a phone. I have not heard anything back from her, so I reached out to my sister and asked if Grandma got the phone. My mother threw it in the garbage. Is refusing to allow a 90-year-old woman to use her own cell phone to contact her grandchild elder abuse? Is there anything I can do about this? I just saw a video of Grandma a few days ago and she looked very healthy, so I know she's not in physical danger. Edit: I'm 31 by the way. Not a minor [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2019 07:40 AM PDT I don't mean to be cynical, but in my experience, complaining to regulatory agencies is a waste of time. Is this worth pursuing with the Dept. of Labor? I work in a call center in Tucson, AZ that has hundreds of agents. The company has offices across the globe in Panama, Phillipines, etc. doing things like pharmacy work. They are worth billions. They have been sued and lost millions for wage issues in the past. This isn't a mom and pop place and it is not an isolated problem. They don't allow employees to have pens or cell phones, so we can't write down our hours. The time clock system is on the computer and it is glitchy. Like it takes 3 minutes to log you in, etc. Last pay period, the system went down. We asked if we should report to our supervisors or log it somewhere. We were told no, they had it under control. It was down for over a week. This week, were informed that they did not fix the problem and no one logged our hours, so they are paying us by averaging our last three paychecks. Disputes must be addressed by meeting with the upper management, but I don't want to be labeled a troublemaker. I don't know how I would figure out if I was paid correctly because I don't know when I logged in or stayed late. They have a card key badge system for entering the building, but they aren't using those times (I guess because we would all get an extra 5 minutes.) Based on their behavior, they are very concerned someone will complain and the meetings are high pressure things to control dissent. There is kind of the veiled threat that they will fire you. Employees are very angry, people worked overtime to pay bills and are now losing their cars or can't pay insurance. While I understand unforeseeable things happen, they STILL have not fixed it and we aren't logging our hours for this pay period either. I need this job so I can't complain to management. I just can't risk losing my only source of income. I would go to wage and hour if I thought they would do anything. Should I just shut up and hope someone else complains? Thanks for reading this. I didn't mean to rant. [link] [comments] |

Dog getting caught up in nasty divorce Posted: 13 Apr 2019 05:52 AM PDT My friend is going through a nasty divorce and her soon to be ex husband is looking to make her life miserable. She watched my dog one weekend while she had their kids and now hes saying my dog attacked the kids. My town did an investigation and found no incident and closed the case. He filed a police report against my towns police station saying they didnt do their job and even called the mayor. I now have another citys dog officer asking to meet me dog. Do I have to let him meet my dog if he has no proof? Can I file harassment on this guy? What will the dog officer do when he meets my dog? (Boston, MA) [link] [comments] |
My deadbolt broke and now I can't lock it. Landlord trying to charge me $360.00 [California 93427] Posted: 13 Apr 2019 12:28 PM PDT I'm not sure what caused it, but my wife and I found ourselves unable to lock our deadbolt last night and when I emailed my landlord, she told me it would be a $360.00 tenant charge to replace it on Monday. I don't see how this could possibly be a tenant charge when we did not willfully cause damage to the property. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. We have had some email correspondence and she has asked me to submit a formal maitenance request. I am getting ready to post this: " We went to lock our front door before bed last and found we couldn't lock it and could barely get the handle to turn. The door can open normally from the outside but we cannot lock it or open it from the inside. All landlords in California are legally required to offer livable or habitable premises when they originally rent a unit in California, and to maintain it in that condition throughout the rental term. According to state laws (Civil Code § 1941.1 and Health and Safety Code §17920.3.), at minimum every rental must have deadbolt locks on certain doors and windows, which at this time our front door does not have. Exterior doors are required to have the ability to close securely, working deadbolts, and keys that work well. Further, landlords are not permitted to collect rent for a property which they have failed to maintain on a substantial level (CA Civil Code § 1942.4)" Am I correct in my research? Should I be financially reponsible for the repairs or should that responsibility fall upon the landlord? [link] [comments] |

I think my mom is trying to screw me over for her own benefit. Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:29 AM PDT I'm not sure if this is the place to post it but I'm in desperate need of advice. This year I filed my 2018 taxes and claimed myself as independent, I am a 19 year old full time college student living Idaho, and I've lived on my own for nearly a year. I pay for all my college expenses and my living expenses my parents have not helped me with any of those expenses. Yesterday my mom called me and told me that her tax guy says she HAS to claim me because I am student despite that I am not living with her. She said that I get to keep my refund, which I have already recieved, but I have to sign a paper saying I made a mistake claiming myself as independent. I asked my boyfriend's mom about it and she says that it sounds fishy because my mom has not helped me with any of my college expenses and my mom wants me to send my 1098-T college form to her, which my bf's mom said she's going to use to claim the payments that I made for tuition. (Fall 2018-Spring 2019) All of my student loans are under my name my grandmother cosigns one of them but my mom doesn't have her name on anything financially helping me with college. Is my mom trying to screw me over? Is she able to claim me just because I'm a student? I dont want to break the law and/or commit tax fraud if that's the case. Edit: location. [link] [comments] |

I recently got in contact with my Paternal grandmother and informed me that my father sent a $80,000 check when I was 18 for me to go to college. I was unaware of this until earlier this week. My grandmother advised me to speak with a lawyer. Could this actually be a case? Should I seek a lawyer and if so what kind? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Nurse gave my dad 3rd degree burn on his back using illegal equipment Posted: 13 Apr 2019 09:25 AM PDT Hello all, My father has been in various hospitals throughout the last month due to a brain tumor removal, paralyzed left extremities, and, ultimately brain cancer. This has been very hard for both him and I, as I am sure you can imagine. A couple of weeks after his brain surgery, he was checked back into the hospital for blood clots in both of his lungs, and pneumonia. While in the hospital, he complained of being cold so a nurse heated up a heating pad in the microwave and put it on his back. The pad proceeded to give him a third degree burn on his back. He was so doped up on morphine at the time that he could not feel it. His roommate stated that he could smell my father cooking. (I have NO idea why he did not alert anyone to this.) I was later told that it is against the law to use heating pads, and anything heated in a microwave on a patient. This is very strictly against policy. As I am sure you can imagine, this burn is the last thing we need right now, and I am infuriated at the gross negligence of this nurse. Can someone PLEASE direct me on the steps to take legal action against this nurse? I've never used a lawyer before or taken legal action or anything like that. Thank you. Parents Turned Super Religious and Are Holding Me Hostage Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:12 PM PDT To start, I'm a legal adult (20) and live in the Chicagoland, IL area. This whole situation sounds extremely nutty, but I swear I'm not trolling and am really at a loss on what to do. Edit: My parent are Buddhist, born and raised, and I have video recordings of them doing crazy Buddhist things like sprinkling salt around the house. Another edit: I am financially dependent on them. My parents come from rural Asia, where people still believe in strange voodoo magic and spirits. I moved into a new apartment last year and had the unfortunate event of being diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases and becoming extremely ill. Instead of understanding that it's genetic (runs in the family) and just coincidence, they had a monk come into my house and he determined that here was some ghost haunting me. I ended up in the hospital for some autoimmune related things and while there I was prescribed an extremely strong steroid called prednisone. I proceeded to be on steroids for about a month, and while on it my mood became extremely volatile and explosive. I am diagnosed bipolar and take medication for it. It has now been a few months and I feel stable. Now here's the nutty bit. They still think that a ghost is possessing me, kicked me out of my apartment (that has both my name on it and theirs), changed the locks, and told the building to call the police if I ever stepped foot on the premises. My car (my name) is also being held there. I am now living at home with them. I am traumatized from this (their) house due to reasons I don't feel comfortable disclosing, but I have daily PTSD attacks. Instead of identifying why this happens they perform daily exorcisms on me along with force feeding me my psych meds in an attempt to make me "less crazy." They told multiple people that I am possessed and they will hold me against my will until I am "better." When I make plans to leave they say that they will call the police, lie and say I'm suicidal, present old text messages from when my mood was extremely volatile and since I have a file that says I have bipolar disorder the police will take me to the hospital and I will be locked in a psych ward. I have friends that have spoken to them directly that can attest to their extreme craziness that is almost cult-like and abusive behavior. My question is what the police can actually do to me, and whether I am allowed back into my own premises to gather my belongings and car. Also, can they confiscate my car if it has both my name and my fathers name on it? [link] [comments] |
Old girlfriend looked me up on Facebook and says I’m the baby daddy (TX) Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:19 PM PDT Dated her over 30 years ago, says her grown daughter may be mine and she wants me to get a dna test to see if her daughter is mine. Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:18 AM PDT I'm a relatively young cashier at a medium-sized retail store. I was recently speaking with another cashier about salary and learned that her pay was higher than mine, despite us being in the exact same position. I asked a few others at my position who confirmed that they were all being paid a higher wage than me. So after a bit of investigation, I learned that I was supposed to receive a raise when I was promoted from seasonal to part-time, which was almost 9 months ago. I remember the promotion clearly, and I also know that I signed a document that contained that terms of the promotion. In hindsight I should have read the fine print and requested a copy of the form, and that is not a mistake I'll repeat. At no point in time was I informed that I was supposed to receive a raise, only that my hours would be increased. I know that the promotion definitely did come with a raise because coworkers who were promoted at the same time as myself confirmed they were paid higher than me. Here's the fun bit - The manager who handled my promotion, and the paperwork involved, was recently outed as severely neglecting her duties in the office and subsequently fired. My current theory is that my raise was never processed because of this neglect, and now I feel that I've been cheated out of thousands of dollars because of it. So I need some advice. Clearly I want to be reimbursed for the unpaid wages, and considering that I signed a legal contract that guaranteed me this raise, I'm hoping that this is a possibility. I've spoken to none of the managers about this yet, many of them do not take me seriously because of my age and I expect them to brush me off or put the blame on me and hope I do not stress the issue further, which is why I need some guidance beforehand on how to handle this prior to approaching one of them. Ideally I would like to be reimbursed, but I am unfamiliar with finance and I don't know whether that is realistic. My primary goal, however, is just to put the raise into effect before I lose any more of what I am owed. Any information on where I stand legally, what can be done, and how to approach a manager about this issue will be greatly appreciated, and I will provide an update after this is handled. Should CPS have been called multiple times? Posted: 13 Apr 2019 08:14 AM PDT I'm a 16 year old male in Missouri. I posted earlier about my principal not calling CPS (this is quickly being resolved!) But, I have talked to my primary care physician, psychologist, and psychiatrist about my abuse and neglect, and CPS was never called. Should I approach them about this? As mandated reporters, I believe they have to call if there's suspected abuse and neglect, which there was since they kicked me out of the house. [link] [comments] |
[RI] Fired 2 days after going to the hospital. Do I have any recourse? Posted: 13 Apr 2019 12:21 PM PDT I worked at a chain restaurant for about 10 years. I ended up as a general manager for the last 5, but never received a review once in that position, just annual raises and bonuses (a few of which they misled us on, but that's another story). A year before being fired, my regional manager retired and a new one came in. He came down hard on us and from talking to my fellow general managers, he was doing the same to them and likely trying to make a name for himself with the new company. About the time he started, we had an inspection from the main chain, in which we scored a 97%. 6 months after that inspection, I received a 30 day Action Plan from the regional manager which they never followed up on, despite my inquiries. 4 months after that Action Plan, I had to go to the hospital for a medical issue. I texted my staff (who were concerned, but fine) and my boss, who was annoyed I wasn't going to be in that day. 2 days later, I was fired. They were nice enough to give me the option of quitting instead of being fired. They promised they wouldn't contest my unemployment, but refused to put anything on paper and quitting would negate unemployment anyway. I told them to fire me. Since I live in an At Will state, am I pretty much screwed here? [link] [comments] |
