Do you confirm phone meetings when cold calling? Sales and Selling

Do you confirm phone meetings when cold calling? Sales and Selling

Do you confirm phone meetings when cold calling?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2019 09:03 AM PDT

I use a couple of hours per day just cold calling and booking meetings for myself. And when I say meeting, I just mean a 15 minute phone call. I normally send them an SMS as soon as I hang up the cold call, but what are your practices around this? Do you also remind them before the meeting, or is this too much?

The thing is, these conversations are pretty laid back, and I often speak to small companies, carpenters, electricians and so on – so I don't actually expect them to put this meeting in their calendar. Often when calling them up, they have forgotten all about it and are busy doing other things.

I'm also very short and a bit pushy when cold calling, which obviously isn't optimal. However, the people I call are often so busy when I call them (Remember, lots of carpenters and electricians) that it's often easier to agree on a meeting than actually ask questions and make them interested in the product. Because of this, I'm actually worried they won't even answer the phone if I send them a reminder first.

Anyone with experience with similar type of customers?

How Do I Break Into Medical Device or Pharmaceutical Sales?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 10:40 PM PDT

    Hello everyone

I am from Toronto, Canada and I am hoping to break into the medical device or pharmaceutical industry in an entry-level role. Previously, I was a premed and I was gunning to get into med school for a long time to the point that I did a 2nd degree to upgrade my GPA. But, medical school admission in Canada is very competitive and I do not want to gamble anymore of my life on this pursuit. Unsurprisingly, being a premed for all these years has exacted a very high opportunity cost from me. It has left me drowning under a pile of debt with two seemingly useless degrees. I have fallen far behind my peers who have employable degrees and well-paying jobs. My first degree is a BSc. in Life Sciences/Cell Biology and the second is a BSc. in Psychology. I do not have many hard skills and I have been totally lost about what to do to launch my career.

I have been searching extensively on what I can do with my degrees and found out about clinical and sales roles in the medical/surgical device industry from multiple reddit posts. Honestly, I think it is the perfect fit for me. I am passionate about health care and the clinical environment. The ideal position for me would be a clinical specialist where I am instructing surgeons in the OR on how to use my company's devices. But, my dilemma is that I don't know the first thing about how to get in the industry.

Is the clinical specialist pathway separate from sales or do I have to start as a sales rep and move up to that? I have no sales experience and prefer a more clinically-oriented role if possible.

With my background, how do I break into the industry and acquire an entry-level role? In other words, how do I acquire my first job? Which avenues should I explore to get here?

What sort of experiences should I acquire to enhance my qualifications and increase my chances of attaining an entry-level position in the medical devices or pharmaceutical industry?

I would really appreciate your advice and guidance to steer me in the right direction.

Follow-up Campaigns - What are they and how do you build them?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2019 10:20 AM PDT

I'm a territory manager for an HVAC distributor. I mostly call on contractors, and some facilities management/property management companies. I'm looking for help developing a template for a follow-up campaign for businesses that don't show immediate interest in working with me. In this industry, in-person visits seem to be the best way to get time with decision-makers. They're accustomed to TM's dropping by in person, and I've had moderate levels of success just dropping in and asking for a few minutes. On the other hand, I've had an absolutely shit time trying to schedule meetings by working the phone.

I've been in the role for about 6 months and since I cover a large territory, I've spent this time talking to lots of people, and when someone doesn't want to talk to me I just go to the next guy. Well I think the party's over, because I've started regular relations with all the people who showed interest on my first pass, and now I have to start really digging in and calling on people who've showed little interest from our first meetings.

That said, I feel very disorganized about my follow-up procedures, as I don't really have a system at all. It's been haphazard, stopping in when I think of it and I'm nearby, and there might be a month or longer between visits/attempts. I know I'm not doing anything that adds value for them to start seeing me as someone they'd like to talk to more.

I'm not even really sure what I'm asking for, but I see people here talk about follow-up campaigns as a very systematized, orderly flow of touches, and I really feel like that's what I'm missing. Does anyone have an example of such a campaign that might be applicable for me? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Good CRM for emails

    Posted: 28 Apr 2019 07:44 AM PDT

So my team is currently using Pipedrive and we're unsatisfied with lack of several key email features, namely:

    • Scheduling emails
    • Email sequencing
    • tracking WHO opened the email

We're trying to expand our outreach by automating the email process as much as possible, however, Pipedrive just isn't cutting it at the moment.

Any suggested alternatives? I'm trialing Close right now and like that it has all these features - but the price tag is a bit hefty.

For those of you who went to college, what did you major in? Was going to college worth it for you and how did it help you?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2019 09:00 AM PDT

I'm not sure if you read my post from a couple of days ago, but basically I've got a couple months time to decide whether or not college would be worth it as a 20 year old who can easily afford it locally.

Lately, I've been doing some research and stacking cash at the factory planning my next move. I live in a small city where many sales jobs are available but they're difficult to come by (minus cars/insurance) without a degree. I've been browsing LinkedIn/Indeed and surprisingly I've found some jobs in nearby bigger cities which do not require one. That being said, the vast majority of high paying jobs (b2b's , pharma, tech, finance, medical, and etc..) REQUIRE a college degree.

There are some exceptions to this rule and some of these companies prefer previous experience instead or additionally on top of the degree. I also acknowledge that you CAN be successful in sales without a college degree. I just wanted to get some more feedback and see what route you guys went?

How do you know your prospect is open to hear more about your product?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2019 04:21 AM PDT

In the Season 2 premiere of 'Killing Eve', there was a great example of how a cold call can work so well.

What do you include when you train your agents in helping them decide whether to move on to the next number or approach the prospect with a different perspective?

My SDR Job is in Jeopardy - Any Advice?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 05:10 PM PDT

    Hey Reddit,

I'm a SDR working in SaaS at a fast growing start up in San Francisco. Background info - I'm a recent college grad who is 6 months in - top performing SDR in the company by long shot over 200% Quota month after month consistently beating the company record of meetings set a month. Strange to say I feel like now my job is in Jeopardy.

Here is the deal. Our company bought a office in (other state) and I heard word from somebody higher up at a company event that they have decided San Francisco will be a Commercial or Enterprise only Account Executive hub while (other state) will house the entire SDR program+ SMB Account executives.

FYI - Here is how the promotion structure works here.

    SDR> SMB AE> Commercial AE> Enterprise AE

My SDR manager is also moving to (Other State) completely. He has asked me two times to move to (Other State) and I declined both times. I saw the pain in his eyes, he really wants me to move there but won't tell me straight out it's because of their relocation plans (this feels shady). I also found out that my manager already knew of these relocation plans to (Other State) before he hired me, he just didn't tell me because he hired me at a time my company desperately needed a SDR. I feel like I'm caught in the middle of some bullshit.

My end goal was to become a SMB AE as fast as possible. With the company shifting like this I feel like I might of wasted 6 months at my company. Whenever I talk about promotion opportunities at my role my manager acts like a shady mother fucker and always gives me vague answers. He sometimes turns it around on me by bringing up my weaknesses and blowing them up. I'm losing motivation to work my ass off because of this.

How should I approach this. Should I go straight to HR?

    Affiliate marketing to email contacts

    Posted: 27 Apr 2019 03:38 PM PDT

All of the affiliate marketing programs I have looked at require a website, on which you can host advertisements and get paid by click. I do not have a website, but I have a sizeable number of email contacts, who I would like to monetize. Amazon's affiliate program prohibits using email addresses (why, I'm not sure). Does anyone know of any affiliate programs, which allow this? Any suggestions to monetize my contacts? They are primarily college and graduate students whom I tutor.
