Posted: 25 Apr 2019 03:43 PM PDT In early 2016 I was involved in a traffic collision. A car came into my lane, I swerved to avoid colliding with the car, and I ended up hitting the guardrail with the left side of my vehicle. I contacted law enforcement, they said I would be considered "at fault" if they did a report, I saw there was not a lot of damage to my vehicle (just paint damage), I could not afford the $1,000 deductible, so I continued on my way. I did not attempt to get my vehicle repaired and did not file a claim with my insurance company. 1 month ago I was involved in another collision. Long story short, I rear-ended the vehicle in front of me. This caused a significant amount of damage to the front of my vehicle but no damage to the other car. I contacted my insurance company and filed an insurance claim. I had my car towed to the body shop and left it with them. A week later the body shop called me and told me they noticed the damage on the side of my car and that I should get the side damage fixed because the damage was starting to rust. They said to contact my insurance and file a separate claim, so I did. 2 weeks go by and I get a check from the insurance company for the cost to repair the front end damage. I gave it to the body shop the next day and they said they already got a lot of work done on the car and they're waiting for the check for the side damage to send it all to paint and have it done. 2 days go by and I get a text message from my insurance company that says my vehicle has been deemed a total loss and my adjuster will be contacting me soon... I called the insurance company and the adjuster I spoke to said they lumped the claims together because the claims were made days apart, the repairs for both claims exceed the value of the car, so they're deeming it a total loss and a total loss adjuster will be contacting me shortly. I call the body shop, they said they have no information on this, they should not be lumping the two claims together, and the car is not totaled. They've already cashed the check the insurance company sent for the front end claim. They also said they've also purchased parts and done work to the car totaling about $3,000, which i'm liable for if the car gets totaled. The insurance company says that they're not paying the $3,000 and it's not their fault the body shop started repairs before they were authorized... the body shop says by the insurance company sending a check it's authorization to start repairs...... So now everything's at a standstill.. What do I do? I'm fine with the car being totaled; I'm upside down on it and have sufficient GAP insurance coverage to walk away from it not owing anything (but deductibles, of course)... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 08:09 PM PDT Son lives out of town and rents an apartment with 1 roommate. After a month son found a job near home so did not really stay in the apartment but continued to pay his share. His and roommates name is in the contract and we (parents) consigned. Roommate had renters insurance, we don't. Never entered our mind to get one. Last January we had a brutal winter and pipe froze and caused water damage to the apartment plus apartments below. Landlord says it was because a window was wide open. Son said there was a window that was really hard to close. (it was a very old building, and remember, son has not been living in that apartment). Now landlord sends us a bill for $15,000 for damages. Now roommate is getting a lawyer and told my son that he should get one too. Can't roommate's lawyer take care of what's needed? Do we have other alternatives besides paying half? [link] [comments] |

Health insurance retro cancelled by employer?? Posted: 25 Apr 2019 03:46 PM PDT Hello everyone, I'll keep this as short and explanatory as possible. I left my last job in April 2018, a year later my blue Cross blue shield coverage was just cancelled finally and retroed from when I was let go. I was told I would get a couple weeks before they would cancel it and they never did so until I mentioned it recently. I. That period my wife has had some serious medical needs. The bill just came in from all the retro and it's as much as a house. Is their anything I can do to fix this or anything that was done wrong? Wondering if I'm at fault for fraud and should be held responsible for the debt or if there is a way I can go back and pay the premium for the policy period. Or is my employer/ insurance company at fault and I can win this with a lawyer? Feel free to ask questions if it is to vague. Massachusetts [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 01:12 PM PDT This is my first speeding citation. I didn't know the road I went through was part of base and I didn't see the speed limit signs. How does this work and how much might it affect my insurance rates. They told me how to pay and that if I didn't pay I'd receive something from the court to appear. I thought the speed limit was the same as the road I turned from which was 40 but they said it was 15. I was going to just pay it but I am not sure if it would be beneficial to try to fight it? It's my first speeding citation. Also is there a difference citation v. ticket? [link] [comments] |
Does reason for a rental car effect insurance? Posted: 25 Apr 2019 10:35 AM PDT Long story short: rented an SUV, which somehow got a small crack in the bumper while parked during a day of shopping. My auto insurance guy just called, and asked for the reason that I had a rental. I explained that I was traveling from MT to CO & rented the SUV just in case there happened to be bad weather as random snow storms are the norm in this part of the country. After that, he said he'd have to check the language of my policy to see if the rental car would still be covered. What?? The damage was not part of a large accident, out of country, out of service area, or because of reckless behavior or off-roading, etc.. so is it REALLY an issue that I rented the vehicle just because? I drive a Honda Fit, don't really want to get stuck in a Wyoming snow storm driving that.. (and in case it matters, no inclement weather occurred) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 02:35 PM PDT Been paying $175. /month for the past 20 years and will most likely continue for the next 20 until I'm 82 for $250k of life insurance. One financial planner suggested I increase payments to $250./ month so I'll be covered until 92. My wife is 2 years older than I. Planning on retiring next year with a good pension and planning on taking Social security too. Additionally, I have about 180k in a 403b. Any suggestions since I'm not that financially savy. (Auto Insurance) Can I have a claim open from both my insurance and at fault party's insurance? Posted: 25 Apr 2019 08:04 PM PDT continuing from https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/bgcp96/car_accident_insurance_question/ So I had actually continued my claim on my own insurance because I was later told by the Geico auto adjuster that the estimate was also cheaper if it's under a Geico claim, and that it comes with Geico Warranty + the repair shop's warranty. Plus I really just wanted the repairs to continue (because it was already at repair shop + disassembled) to get my car back. The repair costs and what not is still all out of pocket, though (because it's below my deductible). I called my claims representative and asked them if I should cancel my other claim, and she didn't say yes and instead said that when their adjuster calls, I should mention that Geico may send them receipts. A day later a Dairyland adjuster calls me and I do tell the adjuster what I was told to tell, and later she takes my statement. I sent her all the documents I had + video of the accident as well. Today she called me saying that yes, their insured is at fault and that an appraiser will contact me with their own estimate of what they owe. So my question at this point is... since all the repair costs are currently out of pocket, is it okay to keep the claim open for the at fault party's insurance, and my own claim? Or do I have to cancel my current claim with my own insurance? My car is supposedly going to be finished being repaired by tomorrow... not sure if it matters to mention this, but mentioning it just in case. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 07:54 PM PDT To the expert insurance adjusters here I have a question. I've been looking at the salvage auction sites and they list an ACV for vehicles listed by insurance companies. I then go and look up KBB, Edmunds, NADA, Carfax, you name it and I can't find this high a number in any of them. The ACV listed on the auction is higher than most dealer retail and even what a certified pre owned is valued at. So after reading so many places that ACV was offered to the insured of a vehicle and that number was considerably lower than any of those above mentioned places even listed private party sell for, are the insurance companies telling two stories in regards to ACV? How can they offer the insured less than private party/fair market value yet at the auction site declare that the AVC is above even high retail? I would appreciate your inputs on that one from some of the industry experts on here. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 11:00 AM PDT So I'm in a really bizarre situation. My son is enrolled in child health plus and I just called to make my premium payment. I was told that my son will be terminated as of May 1st and after speaking to New York State of Health I was told that the reason is because I didnt send his insurance card. So technically there is an easy fix, if I update his info. The issue is the representative was telling me that I have to reinstate my whole family (my wife and me as well). Problem is since I have applied last I have gotten a raise at work and am therefore no longer technically eligible for the plan so if I reapply for all of us, my wife and I will not be approved. The raise was just above the cutoff line and I will not afford private insurance. I am really freaking out now and don't know what to do...hoping someone here can help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 01:39 PM PDT I'm trying to buy a house near Galveston Bay, and sorting out the flood insurance situation is proving to be a bit difficult, and I could use some advice. I'll try to keep this brief and just list the facts:
My question is, why still so high compared to the $575 I was quoted when they were under the impression the zone was AE? Something that I noticed was the flood vents in the garage (and listed on the elevation certificate) don't seem to meet the AE requirements (there were Qty. 2 on one wall, and their area was not 1 to 1 with the sq. ft. of the garage). Which brings up another question...if I assume the current policy, is it valid? If I cut a few more flood vents to become compliant with zone AE requirements, does that matter at all? I can't really make any changes to the existing policy, so even if I got a new EC to reflect the additional vents, they weren't in place originally and any new policy written would be with VE requirements (which means I can't have that enclosure at all without breakaway walls installed - unless I pay a ridiculous premium). At this point, I'm ok with having to deal with the $4800 premium, but I want to make sure it was written correctly and that I won't be screwed because of some technicality if I ever need to file a claim. I'm not really sure how to proceed here though, so any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Modifying my truck...getting the mods covered... Posted: 25 Apr 2019 12:11 PM PDT Hello, r/insurance. I'm getting about $10k in off road stuff done to my truck. I called and my insurer said they won't cover wheels and/or tires. These wheels and tires are about $2500 and easy to steal, even with locking nuts. Is this standard procedure? They said they would cover the $5000 suspension and $2000 steps. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 10:35 AM PDT today I completed the paperwork for my state farm life insurance policy, but state farm's customer service told me the actual policy would not be ready for 3 more days. can anyone send me a copy of a blank or sample policy before then... or tell me where I can find one online. my agent gave me my binder but that is only 2 pages long. I need a copy of a full policy. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 09:50 AM PDT I'm dealing with a property [theft by robbery] insurance claim, and have filed police reports, given all receipts for items, given testimony to two separate insurance agents, and further the insurance company had me submit to an examination under oath by their attorney where I was basically asked to tell them every detail of my life and reveal all records of everything in my life, which I did. All my bank statements, medical records, debts, and so on. Throughout the process the investigator (and their attorney) repeatedly expressed doubt (in very insulting/critical ways) of my story, with their only reason seeming to be that that "my life doesn't sound believable", and my "family relationships don't sound realistic" (with regard to me purchasing one of the items from a family members company). Further, the investigator told me one of the reasons he doubted my story is because he called me dad and learned that I never told my dad about the loss - which I didn't tell me dad because I'm not close with him like that. Further the examining attorney and investigator repeatedly asked me deviously convoluted questions in what seemed like an effort to find any "technical" excuse to deny my claim, but overall I have been fully cooperative and transparent with them. I understand why they had doubts - my family is dysfunctional and not "normal", and I tried to explain this to them repeatedly. They're like "I don't believe that, your family doesn't sound realistic", and I'm like "yeah I know, that's my entire point, my family is dysfunctional" Ultimately my question is, is there any possibility they could deny my claim merely on the basis that they "don't believe me", considering I've followed all insurance claim requirements and been fully cooperative with them? Insurance quotes with last 4 SSN digits Posted: 25 Apr 2019 11:27 AM PDT Is it possible to get quotes using just the last 4 digits or do I have to provide the full number? Home owners insurance renewal offer Posted: 25 Apr 2019 11:21 AM PDT I expect some increase, but is this excessive? What's Texas home insurance rate increase this year? Do you just have to shop rates every year? 2018 $1193 annual. Dwelling $260k, Loss of use $80, etc. Renewal offer 1 2019 $1788 annual. Dwelling $267k, Loss of use $90k. etc Renewal offer 2 from local agency that handled the internet quote last year. 2019 $1394 annual. Dwelling $217k, Loss of use $43k. etc. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 11:07 AM PDT I'll be driving a company vehicle for the foreseeable future which company also allows for personal use and want to cancel my personal vehicle coverage since I'll never be driving it. If I cancel personal vehicle coverage, will this create a gap in coverage that negatively affect my insurance rate in the future when I get a new quote? TX [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Apr 2019 06:40 AM PDT I live with my mom. We both have car insurance through the same company, but different policies because she got a DUI last year. So yeah, not great with responsible decisions. Her boyfriend doesn't live with us. He isn't even there much. He lives and works in an area with higher crime rates, and I just found out that he bought a new car and is using our address for his insurance because it is cheaper. He is also using the same insurance company that we are. I'm well aware that this is insurance fraud, and had I known they were doing this I would have tried to stop it. Unfortunately I didn't know and still wouldn't know if I hadn't seen the policy documents come in the mail. Can anyone tell me what I can expect to happen if he were to get in accident? I don't have any idea what kind of coverage he has and the car is financed. I am concerned that my insurance company could drop me, and also that if he causes injuries/damage beyond what his policy covers, could someone try to get something out of mine or my mom's policy? Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I really hate that she did this. ETA: location is Wisconsin [link] [comments] |
Lease car expired two weeks after insurance renewal Posted: 25 Apr 2019 10:15 AM PDT It is a coincidence. It is the second car in the household I plan to take a vacation after turning in the lease car and might get another one after I come back. Should I renewed the insurance as usual and call to removed the lease car after the turnin, then get another quote after I purchased a new car? If the price is not out of the roof, I don't want to go thru all the on and off hussle for auto insurance. Any advice is greatly appreciated 🙏 Edit: I am currently paying $700 for two cars for six months. And what rate will I be looking at for only one car under my name? Or will I be able to negotiate a gap insurance type thing between turning in the old car and getting a new one? [link] [comments] |
Help with buying car insurance right before moving temporarily Posted: 25 Apr 2019 09:53 AM PDT I will have purchased a used car for myself by the end of April. I am buying it mainly for this coming summer (June -August) for an internship I will be doing. After that, I might try to sell it, but I am not sure yet. I currently live in Wisconsin, but my summer internship will be in Minnesota. So I will have the car for the month of May with me in Wisconsin, but from June-Aug in Minnesota. And after that, I'll move back to Wisconsin. When trying to purchase car insurance, should I register it with my Wisconsin address or my Minnesota address? Also, any recommendations for which insurance company would be best for the 4 month-long policy (in case I decide to sell it)? [link] [comments] |
If I pay my insurance on a monthly basis, am I always one month ahead? Posted: 25 Apr 2019 09:53 AM PDT For instance, if i have auto pay set up for the first of each month. Will my payment on May 1 cover me through June 30? Basically I have been in a nightmare with StateFarm after getting insurance in late January. Auto-pay never charged me for the month of March, last month it only charged me $40 for the month, now the balance of this mess is being spread over the next few months. Just trying to make sure I have not been over paying. Thank you for your answers! [link] [comments] |
Got billed for 20 week ultrasound Posted: 25 Apr 2019 05:05 AM PDT I just got a bill for $533 from a doctor visit on January 25th 2019. The visit was for our 20 week ultrasound. The visit was scheduled by our group, and is also where we'll be having our baby. Usually our doctor tells us about things we'll have to pay for regarding the pregnancy. I'm not sure why I was billed for this. It should be covered by our insurance. Any options? I haven't called them about this. [link] [comments] |
