Just sat for CPA for 1st time

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:04 AM PDT

Just sat for FAR, it was the first time I ever sat for the CPA. And I was terrified going in.

But honestly, I just left and, even if I didn't pass this section today, the the exam feels a lot more doable overall and I feel like I can pass the CPA

Is this what I can look forward to when exiting public? If so, I can't wait for nap times!

It's finally over. After more than a year of job searching, I'm getting an offer from a CPA firm.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:40 PM PDT

No benefits aside from paid time off, but I'm just thankful to be getting the experience I need for my CPA license. It's with a small firm that has offices in Austin and San Antonio. I really think this position is going to be a good fit for me.

Odd and stupid question: Do accounting interns get paid for their internship?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:35 PM PDT

My university is holding a job fair and I figured what better time than now to get an internship. Anyway, I know some, if not most internships are not paid. I looked up if and how much an accounting intern gets paid nationwide and I found the average intern was paid $14.77. Seems high and because it's the internet, I was sketchy about it.

So I'm coming to you guys. Do interns get paid?

Edit: I live in Mid-Michigan and about 2 hours north of Detroit for any additional info.

I am discussing in class whether to use the direct method or indirect method in reporting the statement of cash flows. Do you guys know which one could be better to implement in the financial services industry, and why?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:15 PM PDT

I understand that the DM is more accurate, and it is encourage by FASB, however, I do not have it clearly how it would be favorable in the Financial services industry.

Should I skip going to Deloitte University?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:41 AM PDT

I was a winter audit intern at Deloitte this past January, and the interns get to go to Deloitte University this July. Unfortunately, I have a relative's wedding that week. I could skip it if I really wanted to, but my cousin and I are pretty close so I want to be there for him.

People who have gone to the intern conference at DU, should I skip it? Is it really worth going to? Everyone always talks about how amazing the facility is, and I was really looking forward to it until I saw the dates.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:58 PM PDT

Hey guys, I recently noticed how some people already had big 4 offers from undergrad but still pursued master of accounting at a different, sometimes more prestigious accounting schools. Does someone know why? I'm sorry I am from the south so I'm a little bit limited I guess.

Question about what to do the summer before starting at a big 4!!!

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:43 PM PDT

I will be starting at a Big 4 accounting company in their advisory/consulting practice (I'm a non-accounting student btw so no CPA for me to study for). Would it be unethical of me to get a part time job for the summer? I plan on having fun this summer and not just working, but I would still like have some extra cash in my pocket. Should I mention it to my firm that I'm working a PT job this summer or will they not care? I don't plan on getting anything meaningful out of this job or putting it on my resume, but i'm worried if it'll affect future jobs down the line when they do background checks and see that I was only there for 2 to 3 months.

Which accounting/finance positions uses a lot of Excel?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:07 AM PDT

I've spent almost 3 years at Big4 audit now, and earned somewhat of a reputation as an Excel expert in my teams. The thing is, I'm not even that good, and not nearly as good at Excel as I would like to be, but the work I do in my role here doesn't benefit from more advanced Excel knowledge (i.e. power piviot, VBA). Plus I barely get to work with data in audit. Now that work is slower, I'm going through tutorials to try to learn these myself, but I won't truly learn these until I can apply them at work.

So wondering what my options would be if I want to do more Excel work? the only path I found is FP&A. Is there others?
