r/Stocks Technicals Tuesday - Feb 05, 2019 Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:05 AM PST Feel free to talk about technical analysis here; post your arguments here and not in the current post. Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price. TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term. Intro to technical analysis by Stockcharts chartschool and their article on candlesticks If you have questions, please see the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: See our past daily discussions here. Why has the Ford stock steadily gone down for the past 5 years? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:15 AM PST Is there any reason for this and are there any reasons for the stock to begin to go up? The dividends are amazing but there's no point if the stock continues to go down [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:54 AM PST Sitting in between a high and a low, thoughts? I think over time it's pretty certain to go back up 30-60$, but not sure if worth waiting or look into others until TSLA goes down again. [link] [comments] |
first year into stocks summary (all tech) Posted: 04 Feb 2019 11:17 PM PST One year ago I started with investing my money into stocks. For several reasons I only invested in tech and received quite a lot of hate here back then. It was a bumpy ride but looking forward to the next year. I made only a few trades this year. My goal is to keep most of them for the next 5-10 years. I'll add some V and TESLA in the next couple weeks and rebuy some NVDA. Portfolio contains: MSFT AMZN GOOGL FTNT TENB CRM NVDA APPL [link] [comments] |
Which should I sell - my Facebook or Netflix shares? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:19 AM PST I have a hefty credit card bill this month (bought an engagement ring!) and I'm looking towards paying it all off this month. I am going to dip into savings but I am also considering selling some shares in Facebook and/or Netflix to help pay it off. I've owned shares in both for years so the gains would be taxed as long term capital gains. I also would only sell a fraction of my positions - probably 10 shares of Facebook and/or 5 shares of Netflix. Which do you think makes more sense to sell now? Or would you advise against selling at all and holding on to them? Netflix could potentially win some Oscars with Roma so I wonder if it makes sense to wait to see if it wins and hopefully that will boost the price some more. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Aphria "Upcoming Tender Offer" Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:42 PM PST Hey guys, pretty new to all of this (I did some digging around and may not have been typing the appropriate keywords to get a relevant submission) but I hold a small amount of shares in Aphria and just received an email that there is a tender offer from Green Growth Brands. Not quite sure what this means for me or if there is anything in particular I should do? I have read conflicting things on what happens following these types of announcements so I was curious if I could get some more insight. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:14 PM PST It is down 10% on 3x average daily volume, yet I can't find any news why? Anyone have any idea why it is making such a big move today? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:11 PM PST Suncor energy earnings report come out today and they are expected to do really well. It's a Canadian based oil corporation. Any opinions? [link] [comments] |
Selling Match Group (MTCH) before earnings tomorrow Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:08 PM PST Seems like there's been a low Q1 guidance trend lately so I'm wondering if anybody else is moving out of some of their tech holdings just to brace for impact. I've had a solid ~30% return so far on MTCH and will likely cash out and prepare for a post-call drop. Anybody else planning on a similar move? If not, what's your price target? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 01:11 PM PST I'm taking a Personal Financial Literacy class in High School as it's required to graduate. At the end of the game our teacher is actually giving away real money. I'm just wondering what you guys think some of the best stocks to buy would be, I've never done anything like this before. Some other potentially useful information: 1. The game ends on May 31st 2. We start off with $10,000 3. We can only spend up to $5,000 on a company [link] [comments] |
Keep a Daily Journal of Your Plays, Thoughts and Ideas! It will help more than you think. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:43 PM PST Hey guys, Just wanted to put this out there for anyone that needs it. As the title suggests I found that one of the most helpful habits I got myself into was creating a daily journal. I journal every big event in the news, every earnings prediction, every stock play, and so on. I also make it a point to catalogue other sources with opinions on these subjects. When some news hits, I catalogue the event then turn to all the various news sources, including Reddit. I look for what was said and who it was that said it. Then I will write down my own opinion. What do I think will happen based on this event, who do I think will be impacted, etc. You get the point. Then, at the end of the week, month, quarter or year I will revisit these topics write down how things actually played out. I think ultimately it has helped me get a better understanding of my own thought process and the flaws therein. I've found that I have biases in certain places and they're very clear to see in the repeated patterns of my thoughts. I've also been able to somewhat sort out the mass of bullshit news to see whose opinions I can rely on. The markets are enormous and all encompassing so to want to understand them fully is well beyond me. However, I have can say that I've gotten a better grasp on everything through these journals. Non US citizen looking to invest in US market Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:37 AM PST As the title says, im from Europe and looking to educate myself how investing on US market looks in practice for non US citizens.Specifically im concerned about tax issues.I guess this topic is too broad to be explained in a reddit post, and im not entirely sure what questions to ask, so could you guys refer me to some good articles that explain all the tax matters? Also all the information for non US located people regarding investing are very much welcome. [link] [comments] |

Alphabet Slides as Analysts Cite Caution Over Falling Margins (Bloomberg) Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:06 AM PST Here's what analysts are saying about the results: RBC Capital Markets, Mark MahaneyRevenue growth was "very consistent & robust" with an "unprecedented 36 straight qtrs of 23% Y/Y growth." However, the GAAP operating margin "was the lowest we've seen in many years." Price target lowered to $1,300 from $1,400, reiterates outperform rating Nomura Instinet, Mark Kelley"The revenue outperformance was importantly driven by better Google revenue, with Other Bets below our estimates (to be expected with no disclosure)." "For the full year, Capex almost doubled, but the 2019 outlook calls for Capex growth to slow 'meaningfully.' " Keeps buy rating, but trims price target to $1,310 from $1,350 Morgan Stanley, Brian NowakAffirms overweight rating and its Street-high price target of $1,500 The fourth quarter "highlights the strength of GOOGL's core and portfolio of assets, difficulties in modeling qtrly ins and outs, and need for better transparency." Alphabet's "core/Other Bets are strong and appreciating in value. But it may take revisions or disclosure for the market to appreciate that." Read more: Disclosure Is Google's Wild Card as Costs Rise: Earnings Outlook Baird, Colin Sebastian"Elevated R&D and capex spend overshadow solid revenue beat." "Investors will likely focus on accelerating R&D spend and $7 billion of quarterly capex as a potential indication of ongoing investments (and margin pressure) in CY19, as also suggested by Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat's comments." Other revenue of $6.48 billion slightly above the average estimate reflects "continuing momentum for Google Cloud platform, inclusion of Nest, along with Google Play and Pixel hardware." Baird has an outperform rating and $1,380 price target. Raymond James, Aaron Kessler"Some of the R&D costs were more one-time nature and Google also noted that headcount growth will moderate in 2019 and capex growth will moderate quite significantly." "Slowing opex growth in 2019 could serve as a catalyst for shares." Kessler maintains outperform rating and $1,300 price target "given solid continued advertising growth (search/YouTube), increasing Google Cloud/hardware traction, and an attractive valuation. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:52 AM PST I've been watching stock screener quite a bit and I always get irritated when I see a stock spike because of news, but my screen details were different, so I missed it. So I was thinking is there a way to scan for positive news without scanning for a specific stock, like wouldn't it be cool if you could scan for positive news for all stock in a certain price range. Instead of having to click on each individual stock and see what news that stock has and then move on to the next one. Pretty tedious and slow. I'm using finvis. [link] [comments] |

Question about old shares/stocks Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:30 AM PST Hello ! First time visiting this sub and tried digging through old posts but felt I needed to explain this one. My father had some shares from Sara Lee Corporation - I believe which has since split and the North American brand now is Hillshire Brands. My father only found two statements, (1985 and 1986). Very minimal shares unfortunately. But he's not sure how many years he was receiving them, so there could be more that we don't know of. The two statements outline the account is 100% vested. Any guidance please on how to dig into this to see where and how he could sell these back if that's even an option. This is all very new to me and I'm trying to help him figure this out. Thank you so much ! [link] [comments] |

I just try to make sure they don't owe alotnof keep owing and their money is good. Can anyone direct me on how to read these numbers clearer or what else I should be paying attention to? Where to get historical T&S data? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:11 AM PST I'm looking to find the cheapest and most reliable way to see Historical T&S of the past 30 days. Preferably an API. A site where I can choose a stock and then get a list of all the buys/sells and the sizes of them in the past 30 days. Requirements: 1. API 2. Intraday data; every tick/buy or sell on the stock 3. Access to the past 30 days of T&S 4. The ability to export all the traes as a list/CSV file [link] [comments] |
