My first researched pick (PCTY) has been doing well! What was your first well-researched stock pick?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 08:34 AM PST

"Researched" in that i had specific metrics i was looking for...I was looking for stock picking methods for 1-5 years and came across "GARP" investing, Growth At Reasonable Price. I won't go to far into detail about to look for and why but here at the metrics i used on finviz:

    • PEG Ratio between 1-2
    • Debt ratio under .40 (sometimes .50)
    • Current Ratio of at least 1
    • Sales Growth past 5y of at least 10%
    • Positive ROE and ROA

I play around with the debt sometimes, because there are some really good stocks i've come across that have a little more debt.

My first pick was actually MSFT but thats only cause i had to do a whole project in my last semester of finance comparing it to APPL and estimating its value.

After watching PCTY and learning about its business, i decided to go ahead and buy. I probably bought a little high but w/e. I got in at $72 shortly before the correction. I probably should've waited knowing that much of the market was overvalued at the time, but i was eager lol.

My next pick is looking like Visa. I've compared it to Mastercard, only thing i need to do now is estimate the price...i need a method without needing to forcast statements and shit.

Is the renewable energy market good for long term growth?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 10:20 AM PST

I'm a newer investor, as well as a first time poster, looking to secure my portfolio with long-term growth investments before I start taking on short-term volatile risks.

One thing that I've been thinking about lately, as well as some articles suggesting, that with an increasing consumer push towards renewable and sustainable energy sources that it would be a good place to invest money in renewable and sustainable energy companies. Especially due to increasing evidence of climate change, cost of oil, and the increase of global modernization. But on the other hand renewable energy has only recently began to pick up speed so it is hard, for me at least, to get a good reading on how this market, as well as specific companies, will preform.

I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this? Plus a few tips and tricks to help me make a confident decision.

    Thank you in advance

Anyone here have thoughts on North American Palladium PDL

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 09:47 AM PST

Invested in them about a month ago with the recent surge in Palladium prices. About a week ago they came out with strong 2018 production results and have q4 financials planned for the upcoming week.

They are up around 12% on the week, 34% from 3 months ago and are on quite the run today.

I am quite interested what other catalysts you may think are fuelling this stock other than rising palladium prices.

Palladium is heavily used in the automotive industry; I am fearful with all the recent news of declining auto sales numbers that Palladium's price can't sustain this run up posing a big risk to these guys.

Im thinking it might be a good time to sell out and enjoy my gains on the lead-up to a hopefully strong Q4 Results

    Anyone watching CMG earnings?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 12:25 PM PST

I'm holding a large CMG position (covered call + long unbalanced near ATM, far ITM put calendar spread) with a nearly neutral but slightly positive delta. I'm predicting an earnings meet, then a slight dip in price because of the consistent earnings beats for the last year. Planning to take profits due to IV crush / buyback or possible OTM expiration of short ITM portion of calendar spread (expiring friday).

Anyone else watching this earnings call closely?

I got in just before the crash so there's a lot of red, I guess SNE won't catch up until the next PS5 release hype which might be any moment now since there's not that many releases, Xiaomi mostly got screwed by China investors ban, my candidates are the weed stocks since it was just a gamble for fun and it only makes additional loses because I have to pay yearly for each foreign stock hold although not sure when to dump.

    What do with CSCO?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 04:56 AM PST

This is a follow up on a post of mine from late 2018.

Bought CSCO in 2011, sitting on a whole lot of green. Initially i wanted to sell at 50 $ bucks, which it didnt quite reach. Since then it had 3 highs close to 50, but then dropped a lot due to trade war and stuff each time.

Right now its close to 50 again and has been trading flat for the 3 last days. Earnings are late next week. Im wondering if i should jump ship with the price being relaitively close to my initial exit-point as well as a chance of anewed trade tensions and / or bad ER.

    Help...please ?
