Canntrust moves from grey market to the NYSE today - symbol CTST Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:31 AM PST They happen to be my top canadian LP pick in the space and have been flying under the radar, even though they are top tier in terms of production and management. The move from the grey market to the NYSE is going to bring in a wave of volume, institutional investment. [link] [comments] |

What’s your favourite new industry to invest in? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:24 AM PST I like looking at newer industries for investing once in a while and just wanted to see what everyone else was looking at. I have been in cannabis for a little as well as biotech. Curious what other newer industries such as solar/renewables or self driving cars or maybe something I haven't heard of yet other people are looking towards or have on their watchlist. Stock Trading Diary - Starting 2/25/19 Posted: 24 Feb 2019 06:28 PM PST The Journey BeginsWelcome to my weekly Stock Trading Diary! I will be starting this trading journey on February 25th 2019. My broker will be Schwab and I will have a starting account balance of $10,244.31. I wanted to outline my plan, goals and more in this first post but what you can expect in my future posts is reviewing and recapping my week every week. That means discussing my profit/loss for the week, my trade breakdowns and what went well and what didn't go well and what my expectations are for the following week. Just to preface this a little bit, I have been trading for a little over 7 years and focus specifically on technical analysis when executing my trades. I hope you enjoy this weekly journey and feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback you may have! I'm back! It's been quite a while since I have traded penny stocks or stocks in general for that matter. I really enjoy the ability to trade lower priced stocks as I am usually looking for a 5-10% move and then I am out and on to the next one. One of the benefits of trading stocks especially coming from the option world as of late is not having to worry about time decay. Essentially when trading naked options you need to pick the direction and the time in which it takes for that direction to take place correctly. With stocks you just need to pick the correct direction and don't need to worry about the time it takes to get there. Back when I was trading penny stocks heavily in 2017 I took my account from $5,500 to $21,000. Looking to start strong and have similar success starting on February 25th 2019. To provide you with an idea of what I have planned, I will be playing a lot of stocks at a major support level as well as stocks setting up for a Bollinger Band Squeeze. This plays tend to me the most successful for me on a day to day basis. I will also be playing some Ichimoku as well as some T Line Crunch plays if they present themselves. Personal Rules/Goals
I look forward to documenting this journey and getting started this next week. As stated earlier I will be trading with a Schwab account that has a starting balance of $10,244.31. I will include a screenshot below of my current account size so you can follow along as we go on this journey together. I was going to post the screenshot of my account and in future posts was going to show profit/loss and transaction statements but can't within this subreddit. If you wanna see the full posts I am posting them here: http://stocktalkcentral.com/d/76-stock-trading-diary [link] [comments] |
Ladybaybee's recommended picks for 2019-02-25 Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:24 AM PST I am not a financier or economist. I am electrical engineer with equal passion in artificial intelligence and financial markets. For the past 2 years I have been working on a system that would make short term predictions of stocks. The system is rather complex, I use multiple layers which include: Convolutional Neural Networks, LSTMs and Genetic Algorithms. All bulked together produce an output like in this image. The way to interpret the image is a follows: Symbol and Date columns are self explanatory, Quorum refers to autonomous agents that decide whether to BUY/NOT BUY or SELL/HOLD a stock. Each symbol has 9 agents, and the Quorum column, counts the number of agents that recommend Buy, Selling or Holding the stock. The "Not Owned" column means: if you don't own this stock then you should … The "Owned" column means: if you own this stock you should HOLD or SELL. The column "Growth(1 Year)" refers to what what has been the growth of this system of Agents in the past calendar year. The column "Tx(1Yr)" shows the number of full transactions that these agents recommended in the last calendar year. "Factor" is just the division of Growth divided by Transactions to get the average growth per transaction. Finally "Success Rate" shows how successful these agents have been in their recommendations in the past calendar year, success 1 means 100% successful, 0.5 means 50% successful, and so on. Many people have been curious about the actual process that the system follows, so here it is: for every symbol (600 stocks are analyzed daily), we get the full stock data (open, close, high, low, volume) for the past 4 months. Each stock is associated with another set of "lookalike" stocks as well as major ETF's. This initial dataset is run through a convolutional layer that extracts an undisclosed number of features. These features are then passed onto a recurrent neural network (LSTM) where sequences and patterns are extracted. The LSTM then spits out probabilities for the likelihood that this stock will have a positive, negative and neutral tendency in the next N days. These probabilities are then fed to a genetic evolution system (GES). This system essentially checks the predictions for the past N days and compares them with reality, following that the systems knows which predictions are performing the best. Once the system knows which stocks are being simulated the best, then the system automatically finds which of these best performing stocks have the biggest potential for the next few days. The system does not output explanations, unfortunately us humans are not capable of understanding (or visualizing) a problem of this dimensionality, for example the LSTM part alone works with over 10 million dimensions, not features but dimensions. HOW I USE THIS: I go for stocks with State equal to ready_to_buy because I make this to mean that the upwards tendency is just about to start so it has more potential to grow. State ready_to_sell isn't bad either, it just means that the system had detected the upward trend in previous days and it still thinks that the trend will continue this way. The system doesn't actually tell me how long the upwards tendency will be. I run the models everyday at noon NY time, so the programs just tells me: "I think you should buy this TODAY" or "I think you should sell it TODAY" Just as an added heuristic, I tend to sell all my stocks on Fridays because I don't like the uncertainty that weekends and long weekends bring, but that is just a personal opinion. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:17 PM PST What are the thoughts on PayPal here? Why are so many analysts being so harsh on their recent quarter? I saw good growth and now that Venmo is monetizing the sky is the limit in my opinion. Feel like the negative rhetoric on PayPal is overblown. Disclaimer: I do not have a position in $PYPL as of now. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:15 PM PST I know the vets here probably get a lot of these but I'm just starting and was wondering if there was anything you wish people told you when you first started. Any tips (general or specific) are welcome. I was looking at r/wallstreetbets but they seem like they are looking for home runs and have a lot more money than me! I am in for the long run right now. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:04 AM PST Any suggestions/advise on GE stock? It opened with a 13% increase this morning. I bought 73 shares at $11.45 a share. I feel like this is a very low price per share for a company like GE. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2019 02:44 PM PST $JD has been going up on solid volume recently with lots of calls and stock purchased recently (15m in stock purchased friday in dark pools and large purchases of calls). They just partnered with Japan's biggest e-commerce retailer, cut 10% of executives to help streamline decisions and boost operating efficiency, and are a big player in Indonesia's growing economy. They should have good guidance from earnings too.. China's tech sector has been bullish while positive trade talks are only gonna push Chinese stocks further.. and Chinese "meme" stocks have been performing well ($IQ last week) Link for chart and some discussion on $JD 👇👇 https://twitter.com/traderstewie/status/1098244091219927042?s=21 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:31 PM PST I'm thinking I'm going to invest it in Microsoft if it's share price drops or Canopy Growth Corp. Are there any other stocks that I should have my eyes on? [link] [comments] |
BABA has been on a 3-month upward trend, can it continue? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:45 PM PST Alibaba has been on an absolute tear lately. Within the last three months the stock has risen around 18.5%. I was fortunate enough to buy in a month back but I am wondering if you guys think the stock will continue to rise. Like I said I have some already invested but I am thinking about adding more to my position. I've heard nothing but good things...room to grow, Alipay being huge, Amazon of China. Is there any reason to overthink this, what do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:53 PM PST I never knew what I wanted to do with my life (I'm 19 rn). I thought trading stocks seemed like a fun and challenging way to make a living! So just about a month ago I started trading on an app that doesnt charge fees, since I only wanted to do a lil. Within a month I got up to 10.84% in profits! But now I'm down to 8.55% 😢 basically: how do the #pros do it? Do most go to a school or are they self taught? And if they do go to school for it what program / school? I want to be able to make a living off trading, specially since it's very interesting to me [link] [comments] |
What blue chip stock is worth investing in right now? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:48 PM PST I was thinking of maybe buying a lot of apple or maybe Costco. I want something that will provide good dividends also [link] [comments] |
TD Ameritrade buying power below zero. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:45 PM PST Hi, I'm relatively new to options and created a TD Ameritrade Tier 2 account with the idea that I would, at some point, work a bit more with options. I'm currently playing around with some OTC's and was wondering why my orders are constantly being rejected. When I attempt to buy thousands of shares at a fraction of a penny I get messages saying that my buying power will be below zero for options even though I have plenty enough money in the account. I did notice that under funds available for trading my balance was listed as a "–". Thanks [link] [comments] |
Anyone trading in African markets? What resources are you using and how is it different? Posted: 24 Feb 2019 09:44 PM PST Which markets are you in? What are their foreign trader policies? How do you buy? How do you do research? How did you get started? How profitable has it been for you? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:58 AM PST I found Aptiv because I was looking for a mid cap company (or just not one of the main players like TSLA) with a focus on parts for electric and autonomous vehicles. The company is more than 90% institutionally owned, a good thing in my book, and their stock has significantly outperformed the S&P500 since its IPO in 2011. Past performance doesnt indicate future gains but it helps knowing that they've consistently grown. The spinoff of their powertrain operations in December 2017 also narrowed down their focus to mostly just electric vehicles. I am looking to hold this for at least a year since the auto market might see some overall weakness this year. I want to hear any other opinions on the company, especially potential bear cases. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
WDAY 2018 rev. ~$2B. Mkt Cap ~ $42B Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:54 AM PST What are y'all thinking about this one? Hasn't made a profit in last few years. How is the mkt cap justified? [link] [comments] |
Acquisition alerts/news sources Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:20 AM PST What do you use for acquisition alerts and news? Any good sources for news and information about upcoming acquisitions? After seeing the huge gains Spark and Clementia made today, I'm curious how one gets this news in time to buy in and make the gain off the acquisition news? Is it possible or is it to late to buy once the news comes out? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:57 AM PST I see that Marvell is going to be working with Samsung to build 5g infrastructure. Is it a good time to buy MRVL? [link] [comments] |
Trump delays further tariffs on Chinese goods Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:28 PM PST Good news for Chinese stocks especially that this sub is focusing on JD so much. Pretty safe to say that we'll see a jump in JD and other stocks Monday morning. [link] [comments] |
Why did GE gap up so much pre market then tank in the first 45 minutes? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:43 PM PST GE had the 22 billion sale news I'm assuming causing it to gap up, but then it fell drastically in the first few minutes of market. Why? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:48 AM PST In general its a pretty widely held view to just buy the sp500 instead of trying to outperform the market but what about leveraging for the long term if you look at other leveraged etfs like yinn that are in more volatile markets they dont outperform overall but for the sp500 would they be diffrent considering the markets more stable? SPXL has out outperformed the market so far but its history isnt too long and hasn't experienced any major reccession. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:37 AM PST Say you have 10k in cash in your margin account, and you take a position for 20k (2:1 leverage) do you pay interest on the 10k that you borrowed, or the whole 20k? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:31 AM PST Hi there! I just started my investment journey today, I'd love to learn more and am excited to do so! What tips do you have for a newbie trader? Where should my first 20 go? Thanks for all the help! [link] [comments] |
