[England] I’m a student and I think someone has been coming into my locked room at night. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:19 AM PST So I live in student halls and for the past two nights I have woken up and things in my room have been wrong. To open my door I have a magnetic key card and it locks from the inside by turning the knob. I lock my door every night before I go to sleep. On Sunday morning I woke up and noticed my tv was on and some other things were out of place. I just assumes that I had knocked the remote to the floor in my sleep which bumped the tv on and that I moved stuff around but forgot about it. Today (Monday morning) I woke up and can see that my door is unlocked. I remember locking it last night and I know I hadn't left my room in the middle of the night because my room is an en-suite so I didn't leave to use the toilet or anything. The only people who are able to access my room are me and the security people because they have their all access keys. I know that on both of these nights there were two different security men on duty. How do I find out if someone has entered my room and what can I do about it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:44 AM PST So this is currently taking place at my friends hotel where he is staying in the hotel apartments and has been for the last few weeks. So a week ago, he plugged an Ethernet cable into the hotel apartments router to connect to his PC because the WiFi was too slow. There were no issues and as far as I'm aware he has had no issues at all with the internet being supplied by the Ethernet cable. Today, he got back and the hotel has contacted him and his roommates and are telling them that they 'short-circuited' the hotels internet server by plugging in the Ethernet cable into the router. They then said that because of this, the hotel has had to completely replace (not repair. Replace!) the hotels server and that this cost £4,995 to do so and that my friends are expected to pay the bill. They have not yet been provided with any proof of them being the cause of this and on top of that there has not been any evidence that the server was ever replaced (I presume this is a very big job and at no point did they ever stop having internet). This is a huge amount of money and not one that they are able to afford to pay. The whole situation seems really dodgy. Is it even possible to short-circuit a hotels server by plugging in an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of a router? Any advice on this would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide any support. [link] [comments] |
Wife threatening police to remove me from home the day after she decided she wants a divorce Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:33 AM PST Last night my wife just decides to tell me that she wants a divorce. I'm sure it's been something she didn't just "last minute decide on" but it was still sprung on me. This morning I wake up to a text saying "I want you and your stuff out of the house by time I get home from work". I told her no, as this is my house as well. My name is on the lease, the bills, I work from home, etc. She immediately threatens to call the police on me and "not to make this harder than it is" Can I stay in my own home? Do I have to leave right now? I'm not violent, belligerent or screaming, I've been very politely responding to every message, even though I'm shattered inside. Any and all advice would be welcome. I live in Georgia by the way. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:41 AM PST My father built his home 30 years ago, he is a builder and did everything 100% by the books. He has 4 sheds and a large bulldozer on the property. He built another building (2 story, 3 car garage) on the property 10 years ago, again everything was done by the books and there were no issues. Trouble started a few months back when a neighbor's tree broke in half and the top portion of the tree landed partly on my father's land and partly in the road. My father contacted the neighbors and offered to help them remove the part of the tree that was in the road but they declined his offer and stated they were going to hire someone, that was months ago and they've done absolutely nothing. About a month later my father called the town and inquired about having it removed by the town, which they replied to by stating they would "look into it". His goal wasn't to report anyone or cause any problems, he just assumed since the tree fell partly in the road that it was the towns responsibility to remove it. Last week my father was served with a summons to appear at the town hall to answer for their claims of violations. The summons included a report detailing the violations and included photos of all of the violations they were claiming. All of the complaints are wetland violations, they claim his new garage, garden and 3 sheds are in violation and need to be moved. When the house and garage were built and the sheds and gardens were placed, he always followed the codes and was fully in compliance with the legal limits of the wetlands. Apparently the wetlands have been modified/revised over the years, the photos they provided show the new limits and each structure is only a tiny bit over the limits. Are there any laws pertaining to this exact type of situation that he can refer to or will he be forced to move everything? Thanks for reading. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:59 AM PST I have been renting a basement apartment in Virginia for 8 months nows. I have always had problems with my Landlords, such as no hot water for 7 months, they did not want to accept my ESA (Emotional Support Animals) when i got them, even though my lease allows pets, and constant trespassing, among other things. When I first moved in, along with my boyfriend, they told us if we needed parking & there was no space along the street in front of their home, there was some parking farther back. there is the house i live in, one next door, and then a long stretch of road, where there are no houses, but parking is legal. the Landlord and his family have 5 cars, so i understood there would not always be parking in front of the home. My boyfriend moved out before our last lease ended, but he has always been a frequent visitor. i just signed a new lease in February. he is here almost every day but since he is not living here, he is not on the lease. For the past couple of weeks, he has been parking on the street in front of my home, and not on the long strip of road, bc he got in a bad car accident and it hurt his back very badly. so now that all the backstory is done, we move onto the conflict: Last week, while i was at work, my boyfriend was in my home. he had my permission, and His car was parked on the street. The Landlord's daughter, whom i deal with instead of the actual homeowner for some reason, came downstairs, to give me the lease. she DID NOT text me and ask if i was home at all. just walked right in. my boyfriend heard the door open, and got up to check who it was. Immediately she starts yelling at him, insulting him. my boyfriend was calm and never once insulted her. he informed her 'this is my girlfriend's space, and that he had my permission to be there'. she then starts yelling about his car being parked there, and demands that he move it. he said no, and she was extremely upset, saying there was some sort of parking agreement (there is not) and that she was going to call HOA, the Police, etc., and have him towed. she repeatedly insulted him, calling his life miserable. my boyfriend recorded the whole thing from start to finish. Landlord's daughter then sent me a text message, making herself the victim, saying that she wanted to talk to me. When we had our discussion, it mainly revolved around my guest not being able to park there due to some made up parking agreement. i checked my lease and there is nothing saying i, or my guests, cannot park on the street. i was also shown the video of the incident. i texted the landlord's daughter, and asked her to 1) not come down without asking me first/ having my permission, & 2) to not insult my guests & tell them to leave when they have my permission to be there. 3) i called HOA to double check parking rules; parking on the street in perfectly legal, and i let her know of this, and let her know that my guest knows it pisses them off when he parks there, but that he legally can. That sent her off, and she told me she will ask the Real Estate Agent to write an official notice of termination. which means that once i get that notice, ill have 60 days to move. Not 100% sure, but i dont think that's legal i have checked over my lease, and i see there is a section of Early Termination of Lease, but it does not say what conditions must be met for that to happen. All it says is, if i leave before the lease is up, im still responsible for rent. and that im responsible for anything else, unless the landlord says i am not. it doesnt say what they can kick me out for, or if they can even do it. TLDR; Landlord is upset & petty my guest is always parked 100% legally on the street in front of their home, bc they want to park there. Now they want to kick me out. i am wondering if a Landlord can kick you out in the middle of your lease for no reason, or if legally i can live there till the end of my lease & theyre trying to kick me out illegally. Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:43 PM PST We have no choice but to enter the classroom since our class is scheduled to meet there, as set up by the college. Someone told me it is BS and the college/production company can't legally enforce this. I have no idea what this production company is doing, how they are filming/recording us and what they would need it for. I do plan on emailing someone at the college about it tomorrow, but I wanted to know about the legalities of it in case they try to pull one on us. Location: NYC Edit: The notice is entitled "Crowd Notice/Release". UPDATE: I emailed the head of my department and he reached out to the the office in charge of assigning rooms, and the office said there was a special event in that room last Wednesday and they forgot to remove the sign until today o_o They apologized for any inconvenience or confusion they caused. Thanks everyone for the advice! [link] [comments] |
[ohio] Caught my boss editing me and my coworkers time cards Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:43 AM PST First off, I'm writing this on mobile so apologies for any formatting/grammatical issues. A few weeks ago, corporate visited our store (a restaurant chain) and they chewed our GM out for leaving on the clock and not helping with actual work because it meant that no employees were getting breaks. The company rule is that if you work more than 6 hours you can choose to take a 30minute break, but most people choose not to or don't have the time because we are short staffed. Fast forward to last night, when I check my time card to see how many hours will go on my paycheck and notice that multiple shifts have been trimmed into perfect 6 hour blocks with 30minute breaks. The card says by who and when the times were edited, and why they were changed (GM says that I forgot to punch in/out). While i only lost like 30minutes off this paycheck, I don't know how long this has been going on for, and I had other employees check and they were loosing 2+ hours of overtime each. I took pictures of all time cards/edits and everything (both me and my coworkers) and texted them to my boss asking why he has done it. He said "[he] edited because it was over 6 hours, [he would] check and correct it in the morning," and didn't respond to anything else. I have screenshots of the texts, time cards and edits. What next steps should I take? HR for the company is notoriously bad, so is there any legal repercussions I should pursue instead? Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:00 AM PST New York Sorry for the short and scattered post, I'm about to go to work and she can't use data on her phone to post this herself. On her way to college she was driving a small sedan, it was very windy, and going around a corner she lost traction and she blew off the road upside-down. Very shaken up and bruised, she called a tow-truck. When he showed up she asked to get some of her personal belongings out of the car (included was a $500 camera). Which he refused and told her she has to wait. I'm not sure the exchange they had here. Fast forward to the lot, he was being rude to her and eventually started yelling at her saying she cannot grab any of her personal belongings while the car is in the lot. His excuse to yelling at her were things like "my friend just died", justifying being irate with her. One thing that she remembered was one of the reasons he said she couldn't go into the lot was that the lot was icy. She ended up going in and grabbing her camera and other personal belongings, and ended up being charged with trespassing. As of now I think she's currently being held at a police station, and she's beyond terrified in the state of mind that someone would be after an accident. What would one do going forward in this situation? [link] [comments] |
Pharmacist misinformed me about drug interactions and I went to the hospital Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:28 AM PST Two days ago I went to a North Carolina Walmart to get some Mucinex for a cold I've had. I went to the consult area at a local Walmart pharmacy to ask if it was safe to take with Effexor (anxiety meds). The pharmacist said yes because it's not in the class of MAIOs (it's an SNRI) and then I went about my business. Shortly after leaving the store I took the recommended dosage. I was wired that night but that's not too unusual for me. The next morning I took another dose. About 2 hours after, I was winded and couldn't seem to breathe right. I was scared so I went to the Er. While there I was shaky, dizzy, still couldn't breathe, and both ring fingers and pinkies started tingling (so strange). I told the docs all the meds I had taken and they said Effexor shouldn't be taken with Mucinex as it can cause Seritonin syndrome, which I had a mild case of. Had I been on a higher dose of Effexor this could've been potentially fatal. I'm just really shocked I was misinformed like this as this was someone who is suppose to know all things drugs. And she could've easily looked it up in her system to verify but didn't. So now I'm not sure how to proceed. I want them to know I was told the wrong thing to avoid anyone else potentially getting hurt but I don't want anyone losing their job because of me. Do I go in today and talk to pharmacy manager? Write a letter? Is there a possibility insurance will want Walmart to cover this? Thanks all. Edited to say I took the bottle over to her and showed her which one I was wanting. It has Dextromethorphran HBr 20 mg and Guaifenesin 400 mg in it. [link] [comments] |
HR just gave my Social Security and Drivers license info to a person at work. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:56 AM PST So a new guy at work has been doing his paperwork to fill out, and he realized HR had given him all of my information. Everything he had was my info, from SS to drivers license. Would anything become of this? [link] [comments] |
Abuser is coming to the US to ruin our lives and I’m scared he will throw acid on me. Posted: 24 Feb 2019 05:54 PM PST Hi, there! I'm in the United States for reference, close to (redacted in case someone finds this) I (redacted in case found) live in our home with my husband and our small children, as well as my (redacted due to it being an uncommon situation which would clearly point to me if this was seen). My in laws are originally from Pakistan, and have been citizens in the US for over 25 years! We all own a home together and everyone was happy, until his parents announced that my father in laws older brother and wife would be coming here to stay for up to 6 months in our home. To clarify, he has 2 adult daughters in the US but demands he stay at OUR home. As a background, he hates my husband, myself and my mother in law. He hates me because he wanted to force my husband into an arranged marriage, hates hubby for the same reason, and has always hated my MIL. When my FIL came to the US, he had to wait 2 years to bring my husband (came to the US at 2 years old) and mother in law, so she lived with his family. During that time period he physically abused my MIL daily, she still has huge scars, even while she was Pregnant. When she had my husband he kicked her onto the streets (in Pakistan that's even worse than here because it's dangerous and there's no where to go) and my husband and MIL were homeless multiple times. He threatened her with acid etc. He's pure evil, and as recently as 1 year ago berated my MIL in Pakistan and tried to poison her all because my husband and I love each other and are happily married. Nobody wants him here, not even my FIL. But he refuses to stand up to his brother and refuse him. He feels he "has" to. To him, culture and tradition are more important. I realize I need out of this situation and will be dealing with that, but I need help. How can I go about contacting homeland security, FBI or whoever? Someone who will actually take it seriously. He absolutely WILL harm us and I can't just leave because his sisters are here to and are begging me to help them. We are all afraid. He's pure evil incarnate and I know for a fact he would throw acid on me, my children and possibly even the rest of the family. I cannot wait it out or hope for the best. He can't be in the US. He will find us. And if we run he will find my MIL. The problem is my in laws can NOT know I call the authorities because they would get a lot of shit for it, and they'd be upset because "tradition" /s. This man has extremist views towards women and I'm really, really afraid. Please help me protect our family. I have his full name and his wife's full name. Edited to add: he is not in the US yet, he's awaiting visa approval. Changing locks, calling the police or moving isn't an option as my in laws will let him come at any cost, including their daughters. I can't leave the girls like that, and I can't leave his mom like that. Their culture is completely different and they genuinely see no choice or option. UPDATE: I followed the advice of many commenters! I contacted homeland security, as well as the immigration offices, and have contacted Sakhi (thanks to the commenter who suggested them!) and gave their contact info to all 3 sister in laws in case of emergency such as forced marriage etc if something were to ever happen to my husband and I. I am also calling my congressman as well as the local police department! In addition, I had a serious talk with my husband and he assured me of 2 things: 1. He fully supports me calling the authorities and 2. He will absolutely not let him come, will put his foot down and swore on our religion that he will never step foot in this house no matter what. He said he's trying to be careful about how he goes about this with his parents due to their culture and them genuinely not understanding that they don't have to let ANYONE in their home in the US. That is their right. Thank you SO much to everyone who commented, please keep giving suggestions if you have them. I'd like to keep this post up because I KNOW there are other south Asian families and kids who deal with things like this and it may save a life. I told him that I'm so happy he's serious about this because it's a deal breaker for me and that I would leave with his sisters. He assured me he would never let us be in harm and apologized that I didn't understand that from our previous conversations. Thank you again everyone! I'll keep updating once homeland security calls me back etc! And always if you see something or hear something, say something. [link] [comments] |
Collection account showing on my credit report after receiving NO validation. (CA) Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:01 AM PST So I know I can't name specific companies here, but anyone who's dealt with collections has probably dealt with the junk debt buyer that pertains to my situation. For the purpose of this post I'll be referring to the collection agency as "dumbasses," because they really fucked this one up. I'm just here to figure out what steps I should take next. Around November, dumbasses sent me a letter saying they now hold a debt that i supposedly owe (I don't). I immediately (same day) send a debt validation letter. I received nothing back other than a statement with my name and some random account numbers. No original documents, no signatures, NOTHING but a strange photocopied statement and a "go here to pay" phone number/website. I responded to that letter asking for some ACTUAL validation, invoking my FDCPA rights and all that, and they literally copy pasted the previous letter (statement and "go here to pay") and sent it back to me. It's laughable, really. Now, during the 30 days before I received any letter back for "validation," they called me MULTIPLE times using deceptive tactics such as spoofing a local area code (changed it to the point of one number away from my girlfriends, which is fucking creepy) and leaving voicemails, which I am aware is a HUGE violation of my rights. I have all of this logged, recorded, and letters are postdated. TLDR/End of the story: I checked my credit report last night to find that these assholes have now put themselves on my report without validating a THING and violating multiple counts of the FDCPA. I'm seeking to take legal action as well. What would my best recourse be? I don't have all that much money for a lawyer, but it's pretty black and white in terms of HOW bad they've screwed this up. [Alberta] dance studio won’t refund my fee for a class that was cancelled. What are my options? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:47 AM PST I'm in Alberta Canada. This is so minor in comparison to other questions on here and I'm a little embarrassed asking, but I'm very frustrated and need some advice. I paid $100 to take a dance class. The class ended up being cancelled. When I inquired about a refund, they took over a week to respond, and asked if I would be interested in another class. I emailed back right away and said no, I want a refund. I've sent 2 follow up calls and tried calling and no response. I've been waiting about a month. The fee was only $100 and I paid by e transfer if that matters. The studio is legitimate - I took classes for about a year with no issues. $100 is not going to break the bank but it's now just the principle of it. How should I proceed from here? Certified letter? Write a truthful review online? Small claims? What fees can I get back if I sue? [link] [comments] |
Bound by NDA to never disclose work for a particular company. Is this valid? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:36 AM PST A year ago, I did some brief freelance work for a large multimedia company in the United States. (I am also a U.S. resident.) As a condition of accepting the work, they asked me to sign an NDA that stated ---among many other things ---that I would never disclose that I performed any work for them. Most of the stipulations of the NDA were that I not reveal and corporate or trade secrets. This is common from my experience. But not the part about never telling anyone I did the work for them. That sentence set off a little warning bell in my head that I should have listened to, but I didn't. At any rate, I didn't continue my work for them long, but I have since determined that the likely reason they included the stipulation is that they present themselves publicly as only using free, user/participant-generated content in their product, when, in fact, they pay multiple professional writers. I would like to warn other potential writers away from working for them, as it is a bum gig, but feel bound by the terms of the NDA. How enforceable is that provision? Should i just warn people not to accept something like that as a bad sign? [link] [comments] |
High School Dual Enrollment Student Being Charged For Class I Was Told To Take Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:33 PM PST Location: Georgia, USA Throwaway account. I am currently a high school dual enrollment student at a state University. Dual enrollment is where the state will pay for you to take college classes at a university and get college/high school credits. I am a full time student, so I never go to my high school. Currently in my second semester there. Last semester, when the time came around to register for my spring semester DE classes, I was told my account had some technical difficulties in their system and that they would work to get it fixed. A lot of other DE students had issues registering to do a random error. Come the first week of the semester, after many classes I wanted to take had filled up, they finally fixed my account. I now had to register for the 4 classes (minimum required amount to stay in program) that I had agreed upon with my high school counselor and submitted to the university. Of course, by now most of those classes were full. One class, lets say class D, was entirely full (no open classes). Therefore, I had to sign up for one more class before the deadline to participate in Dual Enrollment entirely. I asked the university counselor who I had spoken to over the phone about fixing my account and she told me that I could sign up for a different class, class E. Class E was not on the list I had submitted, but I had been given verbal approval to sign up for it to fill the last slot. I also emailed my actual university counselor (who was absolute horrible and never did her job, shes the reason this thing got left to the absolute last minute and I had to call the entire university department to find someone who could help). I told her that she had told me that she would help me sign up for a class on my list if full and she didn't get back to me even after two emails. This forced me to sign up for Class E. Also let it be known, the system allowed me to sign up for Class E. It normally would block and tell you not allowed if it wasn't specifically allowed by someone who had given me permission. Today, two months into the semester, I get a call from the head of DE (Dual Enrollment) at the university and he tells me that I am not supposed to be taking Class E as it was not on my original list and I must pay for it. All DE classes are free. He says that it is not on the approved list of DE classes for funding. There is no option to drop without paying. Really stuck here. I was told to signup for the class by a DE counselor and am only in the situation in the first place because of the incompetence of the university and my counselor. There's no way I can afford the $2000+ this is going to cost me, so I am really looking for some advice. Thank you and please let me know if you need more info/questions. I wrote this kind of angry and sleep deprived so sorry for any typos/errors. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:55 AM PST Basically as the title says. I owned a small sole proprietorship in BC, all legit and did some small IT type work and computer repair etc. I had one competitor in the town and we basically co-existed with no real competitive issues. A year or so into this, I took a different job in a different province, so I decided to sell my company. I wanted a quick and easy sale so I approached my competition, and we quickly had a deal. It wasn't a great deal for me, but it was easy and taken care of, and being the good guy I am, even offered to finance it to the other guy. We drew up the paperwork and I handed over all assets website etc. I didn't think too much about it, but I never actually got the papers signed, although I have messages and email etc proving he had agreed to the deal and everything, so I'm no too worried about that (unless I should be?) So two years later, the guy hasn't paid a dime. Reaching the statute of limitations I file a plaintiff's claim in Ontario (his corporation is registered in Ontario). I filed for the agreed upon amount, in addition to costs of running the website etc, interest, and costs of action. I had a paralegal service serve the locations listed on the government registry for his business as well as to the addresses of all the directors listed. I got no response from this, so I sent him an email with all the details including all the evidence I had, as well as the plaintiff's claim, and the affidavit of service etc. He replied saying that I served him incorrectly, and that it doesn't matter, and also that my case has no grounds and will be thrown out. (I don't believe him but just what he said). Since then I have filed a motion of default since the 20 days has long since come and gone. What are my next steps? Am I in the right of doing everything here? Edit: I filed in small claims court as the value if this is less than the max small claims value [link] [comments] |
I need to sue my former apartment complex, but cannot find a registered agent for them? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:24 AM PST Hello, I live in Georgia, US. It has been over three months since I moved out of my last apartment, and they still have not refunded my security deposit. In order to file a claim in magistrate court, I am required to have the name under which the complex is registered as a business. The apartment complex itself is managed by a parent company, but neither name is registered. I have called the Secretary of State who looked up by both names, as well as the address of the complex itself, to no avail. I have contacted an attorney who briefly looked into it, and said they were registered but it expired in 2016. I have reached out to the management team at the apartment complex, but they were no help. What can I do, moving forward from here? [link] [comments] |
Girl in apartment below screaming “stop”, denies anything to cops. What can be done? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:08 AM PST My girlfriend lives in an apartment above this girl. Last night at 4 am this girl starts screaming "stop" repeatedly. Girlfriend calls 911, officer talked to girl below and in 5 minutes he was gone, so I assume she lied about anything happening. The couple downstairs have yelled, screamed, and been verbally abusive to each other for many months now, so I am concerned he's raping her and she's stuck with him. Apparently they've been together since high school and are now seniors in undergrad. What can be done? Is it bad to try to reach out to the girl (even anonymously)? Keep calling police when things happen? I want the best for her but I'm worried she might get scared off or take out her anger on tenants in other apartments if she feels threatened. Thanks! Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:34 AM PST [England] So my ex (sake of conversation I'll call her Jayne) has just told me I can't see my daughter (Ruby) until I sort out an official contact plan, but the only plan Jaynes happy with involves me changing my shifts at work which is a lot easier said than done and I don't know why I should have to do this for her anyway. I need some advice where I stand legally with this or from anyone else in a similar position. A longer run down of the situation: Me and Jayne split about 5 years ago and our childcare routine with Ruby is I have her every other weekend (Friday through to Sunday evening) and also overnight every Wednesday and take her to school Thursday morning. I work full time, 8am-4pm most days, and I have to work 1 Saturday (8am-2pm) and 1 late Friday shift (12pm-8pm) a month too. This works on a 4 weekly schedule. My Saturday shift falls on week 1 and my Friday late shift falls on week 2. Weeks 3 and 4 are normal Monday to Friday weeks. I have Ruby every weekend of weeks 2 and 4. This obviously means picking her up just after 8pm on my late Friday shift but this has never been a problem until now. It's been fine for the past 1.5 years, but this past Friday Jayne messaged me asking to take Ruby to the doctors at 5pm. When I reminded her that I didn't finish work until 8pm that day she kicked off BIG TIME because that meant she had to cancel plans she made with a friend (as if that's my fault?) and says she shouldn't be looking after Ruby when it's my time to have her (even though I haven't finished work yet). Talk quickly escalated to taking me to court because she thinks I should have to pick up Ruby at 4pm like I do the other weekend. She says having her until 8pm means she's pretty much my childcare service. I can't permanently swap my late Friday shift at work unless there's someone else to swap with (which there isn't, I'm only on a small team of people who have their own routines and problems to deal with let alone mine). So she suggested/demanded we swap the weeks I have our daughter from 2&4 to 1&3 and my girlfriend can look after her when I'm working on Saturday. This would mean losing about 6 hours with my daughter and that's precious time to me. Basically I didn't agree with what she's asking me but compromised by saying my girlfriend can pick Ruby up when I'm working the once a month late Friday shift but it could be between 4pm-6pm (she works on a rota and knows a week before what shift she's gonna have). Jayne declined because apparently I MUST pick Ruby up at 4pm because that's when I usually finish and it means she's missing out on free time. Personally I think this is a pretty warped view of things.. Its only once a month and it's 4 hours with her daughter yet it seems like she's trying everything to stop this. This late shift is the only problem with our current plan and it just seems so over the top to have to go to mediation and maybe even court for it! But yeah now I'm not allowed to see my daughter and I don't feel like just giving in to her mum and swapping to weeks 1&3, but maybe that's easier? If it ends up going to court can they force my employer to change my shifts around? I'd appreciate any advice on what to do next! Thanks in advance! Edit: If it helps I'm based in the UK :) [link] [comments] |
My mom got hit by a car in a grocery store parking lot; What do we do next? (CA) Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:00 AM PST Hello r/legaladvice I am a long time lurker and sometimes comment, never thought id need to post but alas, I need help and thought of you all first. As the title says, yesterday at 11am pacific time my mother was walking to my car, I was just ahead of her, and a car that was not paying attention (looking only right and not left where my mother was at crossing) did a California roll and then accelerated right into her as she was trying to cross over the passing lanes in front of the grocery store entrance. It was a low impact speed hit that knocked her to the ground and she went into shock. There were dozens of witnesses, driver stayed on scene and admitted fault. The cops came and a collision report was filed, cops deemed driver 100% at fault as well. My mother had to be transported via ambulance to the hospital er where she underwent xrays to check her injuries. Thankfully, she came out with only minor injuries to her head, back, and her right leg, primarily where the car hit her leg and caused her to twist hitting the ground. She had to take today off of work to rest and recover and will need to take off more days in the coming weeks for followup, resulting in loss of income due to this accident. As it stands, I her daughter, had to help her with medical expenses upfront. Currently we have paid for her copay for er visit, her pain meds, and transportation costs associated with my husband and I needing to travel to and from the hospital all day yesterday. My mothers work has a legal assistance program for members and she is compiling all this information to talk to lawyers from her work. We would like to see if there is anything else we are missing, helpful information on what my mom should do next before talking to lawyers, and what to expect during this process of navigating the drivers insurance. We have on hand in a folder:
We are anticipating more bills to arrive in the mail in the coming weeks associated with the care she received while in the er. Is there anything else we should obtain? We have NOT contacted drivers insurance yet as my mother would like to be prepared and know if she should contact them or if lawyers should contact them. What questions should my mom ask her lawyers when she contacts her work legal assistance team? Sorry if this is a little scattered, we are still coming to terms with the fact that she got hit by a car and will need followup appointments to check for an array of health problems this could have caused i.e. blood clots that run in our family and something she has previously had. Thank you all in advance for your help! I truly appreciate this forum! [link] [comments] |
Do I have a case? Buys brother out of inherited property, stuck with his judgement (NC/USA) Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:56 AM PST So long story short, my parents passed away several years ago but there was a piece of land that fell to my brother and I, we have not been on speaking terms for a long time, and he did not want to sell it so I let it go, though I still paid the property taxes on it every year. Recently he found himself in some financial trouble and reached out wanting to sell, he offered to sell me his share for $2500 so he could get out. Great we agreed, transferred the deed to my name, and I began the process of selling it. Now, a few months later, I have a buyer, agreed on a price ($10K) and as we are going through the process of transferring the title I found out that my brother had a judgement against him of nearly $6k that was put on the property. So after closing cost and everything, Im going to be lucky to get the $2500 I paid him back, while he walks away with $2500 and I paid his debt. Do I have a case here if I took him to small claims court to get the 6k in his judgement, or is this just a case of me not being smart enough to do a title search and see the lein? Frankly I dont care about the money, I do not believe I would ever get the 6K, I feel like I got conned. and at the very least if I can put that debt back on him then I would feel better. Any help or advice would be appreciated. EDIT: Let me also add that my brother is a deadbeat, Im not sure that he has a job currently and I know he has no money, would taking him to court be worth the hassle? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:55 AM PST Title explains most of situation. I sent in a legally valid FOIA request to the TBI for all documents related to my uncles murder 10 years ago, they denied citing a state law, then I sent multiple administrative appeals, which they never responded to (20 day window required by federal law). What's my next step? Do I need to subpeona them in federal court for failing to follow FOIA? [link] [comments] |
[CO] My employer is intentionally misreporting our w2's and pay and refusing to correct it. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:03 AM PST My fiance and I work for the same company and when we received our original w2s noticed they seemed off. Mine was only short a few thousand dollars however my fiance's was short by over 14k. After talking to coworkers it seemed everyone's was wrong ranging from being short a few thousand up to 60k and possibly more. It's a small company so I mentioned it to my CEO assuming it was an honest mistake. He immediately began explaining that he was doing everyone a favor and that we'll all owe less in taxes and if he corrects it instead of getting a refund. I pointed out that according to my paystubs I've been paying correctly and should not owe and that I would like a corrected w2. Fiance told him the same. I at least have all my paystubs but my fiance has not received paystubs for the last 6 months or so despite constant reminders and requests for them. He agreed to correct them and said we would have them in 2-4 weeks. It's been 4 weeks and we asked again and he is saying they are backlogged and is "working on" the missing paystubs, and gets upset and defensive when we inquire further. What can we do at this point? We need to file and are looking to buy a house this year so aside from legal ramifications of tax fraud we want to qualify for a mortgage loan. I should also say that people have been fired for a lot less here and while we are both searching for new jobs we are afraid that pushing this will get us both fired quickly. tl/dr: Employer falsified w2s by a lot and is refusing/delaying correcting them or provide paystubs. *edit to add that we have pretty solid confirmation from a relative that he has not reported a lot of his employees on payroll quarterly and has been paying through wire transfers often. So we assume that correcting our w2s would be admitting tax fraud? Can we get in trouble for not reporting to the IRS if someone else does first? [link] [comments] |
Stayed at the hospital and was severely mistreated, verbally abused and denied medication. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:09 AM PST I stayed at the ICU in the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I requested the medical records of my stay, so I could coincide the dates and times with the notes I took of the mistreatment. I recieved a call from the records department and was told that the records of my stay at the ICU are mostly blank, not even including an admittance date and time, or a discharge date and time. This leads me to believe that they are trying to cover themselves for this mistreatment, as the records from my stay at Unit 44, and the Burn Unit directly afterwards are fully documented and fulfilled. How do I go about finding a lawyer to start a civil claim, or start some way to have the abusing doctor and nurse repremanded/fired for their despicable behaviour? [link] [comments] |
