Some google tips to help your prospecting

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:18 AM PST

I take no credit for these, I just watched a webinar and am shamelessly ripping off someone elses content. That being said, I believe you'll find these Google tips incredibly helpful.

Some notes before we begin: Syntax is important, you must copy the format as I've typed it and every piece of punctuation must be included in your google search. Also, pay attention to words that are capitalised and their placement next to certain characters.

Final note, my markdown game is weak today and I couldn't get the formatting to work. I apologisde in advance for the pain on your eyes, but the content is good, stick with it!

To find decision makers at a specific company

"company name" + ("vice president" OR director) + location (can be a city, state, county, country) -jobs

The -jobs is a qualifier that tells google to remove posts from your target company that link to job vacancies within the company. You can change "jobs" to anything to refine your filter, but the - MUST touch the word you don't want.

To find a list of job titles at a specific company

"vice president of * at IKEA"

The * is a wildcard and tells google to fill in the blanks, you can also use it to fill in company names if you're not sure of a companies complete name.

To have google search member directories in a city

Stockholm + (ceo or owner) intitle:"Member Directory"

intitle: tells google what type of document to search within, you can refine this to pretty much anythign you want to search for.

To find companies in a city issuing RFPs/RFQs for a specific service

    2019 + Boston + HVAC (intitle: rfp OR intitle:rfq)

To find a list of attendees for an event

Sydney + (cto OR cio OR ceo) inurl:attendee

Change the attendee string to anything you want, inurl: is the magic that does the work.

To get a listing of decision makers by job title in a specific city

"London" + (ceo OR managing director) inurl:contacts

To get a list of trade association members in a city

"new york" + (chamber of commerce) + association -dealer inurl:list

To find a document that contains contact information for a given industry, in a specific location

"USA" + hospital + manager + (purchasing OR procurement) filetype:xls

This one gave me a spreadsheet of every hospitalk manager in the US (with phone numbers and emails). Change the filetype to find different information, try filetype:pdf to get different data for example.

to find a contact list of decision makers at a specific company

"general mills" + ("vice president" OR "director") inurl:list filetype:xlsx

In this search I combined the "inurl:" and "filetype:" filters to create a very refined search string. Which gave me a list of 72 decision makers (including email and cell phone numbers) of decision makers in this 1 company.

The boolean search strings look intimidating, but once you get the basic logic down, you'll find they're a very common-sense mechanic and you'll be combining your own searches in no time.

Hope this helps, and I'll be happy to answer any questions. Oh and please go visit samrichter.com, who was the guy I watched.

Sharing My First SDR Job Search

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:25 PM PST

I wanted to share with you all how my first SDR job search went. I started searching around mid January and signed an offer a yesterday. This is in a mid sized city on the east coast. I have a degree which is entirely unrelated to business which I received last year.

    Total Employers contacted: 19

Employers that did not respond: 4

Employers that sent right out rejections: 6

Employers that I stopped the interview process due to low pay/wrong fit: 4

Employers that went through the entire interview process then rejected me: 2

    Employers that sent offers: 3

I'm pretty confident that I could have gotten offers from the 2 employers that rejected me if I had been more outwardly excited about their product/solution, or had spent as much time preparing for their interview as I did with the employers I did receive offers from. I ultimately got offers from the companies that I definitely wanted to work for, which is what matters.

The offer I took was for 45k base, 70k OTE with very good benefits at a medium sized SaaS company. I don't think I would have received a higher base salary, but other companies' OTEs were higher but with worse benefits.

Interviewing was ultimately a lot of fun as you got to see who you'd be working with, tour the workplace, and get insight into various industries. I really enjoyed hearing how various managers approached sales differently. Additionally, I felt more and more prepared for each successive interview. Now to grind for an AE position and maybe re-visit the job hunt in 3-5 years.

Looking to update my sales resume, but my numbers aren't looking to great.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:12 PM PST

I currently have 8 months experience as a sales rep in wireless B2C. Looking to get the hell out of B2C and get into B2B but my numbers aren't too great. Can I pass by with just buzz phrases like "learned to overcome hesitations to close the sale?" Should I bend the truth about my numbers? I don't want to but if it'll get me in the door for an interview and I can sell myself well enough then should I consider it? Our store has a lot of reps and about 1/3 aren't hitting quota, so I'm also looking to move to a lower volume store with less reps in hopes of getting to a top 3 position for the store.

Sales interview tip: How to go above and beyond and stand out?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:06 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

Currently interviewing at a number of tech/SaaS companies for SDR/BDR roles and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to really stand out during an interview. I've been in B2B sales for a little over a year now in an unrelated industry and have no prior SaaS experience but am hoping to break into the industry despite this hurdle.

If the idea of growth and development comes up during the interview (which I'm sure it will, because I will bring it up if they don't!) I was thinking of creating and communicating a kind of "professional development" outline for how I have gone about bettering myself and learning new sales skills. Included would be things like books I've read and plan to read, courses I've taken, any formal training I've undergone at my current role, podcasts listened to, trade-shows attended, etc...

Do you guys and gals have any other ideas of how to go above and beyond in an interview and illustrate how you are the best candidate for the job?

Battle of Free B2B Contact Data - Apollo vs Prospectify

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:02 PM PST

With the recent announcement from Prospectify of free open source B2B data available for manual searching. There are now two companies offering "free" B2B contact data: Prospectify and Apollo. I am not affiliated with either but in the market for contact data so I did a quick comparison in my blog. Believe that links are not allowed in this sub so DM me your business email for the article if you are interested.

Beyond AdMall and monitoring competitive media, what's the best way to discover local prospects?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 11:23 AM PST

I'm in local TV advertising sales and struggling lately with finding prospects. AdMall seems to have a bias towards national/regional accounts (which we don't handle). I did use LinkedIn Sales Nav in the past on my own accord, which was great, but my company is a huge conglomerate and they have partnerships in place with certain vendors, so they won't reimburse me for it. I may just pay out of pocket again, but I'm wondering what other venues there are out there that I may be missing.

I still haven't found an effective way to search Facebook, is there a way to geo-target searching for businesses by category for example? Are there other sites out there that you guys might recommend? (Other than monitoring local newspaper/radio/magazine/billboard.)

    Thanks!

What makes a great sales resume besides hitting your numbers?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:51 AM PST

My resume is really just a list of numbers that I have achieved over my sales career against quota. There are a few points about closing the largest deals in company history. Besides that what are some great things to add to a resume to help you stick out?

I want to impress hiring manager for SaaS interview next week

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 09:55 AM PST

Guys- I have zero B2B sales experience, but have landed an entry level phone interview with a startup next week. I'd like to impress the hiring manager by getting on the phone with some prospects before our call. I've been able to gather that they are looking to get their event management app into the hands of more large scale enterprise customers.

I'd like to be able to say, "I was able to get a 20 minute call with (blank) company's events coordinator and she shared with me that she's looking for this or that..."

Any idea how I could accomplish this? First thought is searching people on LinkedIn.

Revenue Target Question: BD Interview at NYC Expert Network

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 08:48 AM PST

Im interviewing for a biz dev role (at the associate director level) at a mid-size NYC expert network (~ 450 employees so much smaller than GLG). My concern is the size of the annual revenue target: $1.5MM.

That is an order of magnitude larger than any target ive ever carried and seems EXTREMELY aggressive.

    My questions:

    • Is this in-line with industry averages?
    • What questions should I ask in subsequent interviews to flesh out whether it's realistic?
    • What kind of sales/ lead gen/ marketing support can i expect/ demand to hit such an aggressive target?

    Thanks guys....

Best method of sending sales decks?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 08:25 AM PST

Hey guys, I work in media where I have to send a lot of heavy proposals/decks to clients on a regular basis. I'm wondering what you all suggest for sending large decks (>50MB)? In the past I have used clearslide, which worked well but was expensive and often not accurate in tracking. I have recently joined a new team and am using the free version of wetrasnfer. I'm not super stoked on it.

    What does everyone else use?

I just did a demo with Growbots to potentially replace my current SaaS (SalesLoft/LeadIQ/hunter.io). Has anyone used Growbots?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 07:40 AM PST

Honestly I was really impressed by the demo, they seem to have all the features Iv been missing with Salesloft. Like automatically changing the next step date for out of office replies, better organization of contacts with warm replies, etc. I don't have to use it for my emails retrieval if I don't want to but I'm deff going to do a demo the whole app next week and see. Just wanted to see if anyone had something useful to say about Growbots on r/sales. They are based out of Poland I believe.

How to screen for good outreacher?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:14 AM PST

    Guys hi

As the title says i wonder how to screen for good outreacher?

(i'd like to add outreacher to our team to help outreach to bloggers, website owners, etc)

I think something like giving them details about us (product, link worthy content, etc) than giving 2-3 potential prospects and asking what they will do, and than look at

-how they outreach (email, or social media)

-do they try to build contact before outreach (like leaving comment on blog),

-what email they write(is it personalized or generic, is it pushy or conversation inviting, etc)

-what they do in case of no reply, etc

Does it sound like a good plan? And what qualities to look for?

p.s. The main aim of outreach are partnerships (affiliate), links(SEO), etc, which are not direct sales but i believe the qualities good outreacher are the same.

    Sales Interview Process Stagnant

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:01 AM PST

I interviewed with a company back in mid-December. I felt I did really well, the recruiter said I did great and the interviewer said I was moving on, and they were shooting for the beginning of the year to bring me back. Holidays, end of the year, totally understandable. I've been reaching out once every one to two weeks to see when I can schedule the next interview, and it's been delayed responses and everything gets pushed back. The position is with a large company in med. devices in a specialty that I am passionate about, but I have a part-time teaching position that is looking to bring me on full-time in the fall, so I need to get this wrapped up. I am planning to email the interviewer telling them I need this interview process to move along or I'll have to withdraw my application.

I have no sales experience, and breaking into medical sales with just a Master's in a STEM field has been a struggle. Worried if I push back a bit on this stagnant process, I'll just end up withdrawing my application and be back in the application grind for months. Any advice?

Outside insurance sales agent, needing advice

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:20 AM PST

I'm a full time student, currently working part time, but looking to make more $ due to having more bills added on which is going to strap my current income. Just curious if anyone's done any type of outside insurance sales, solely based on commission? Is this something worth my time? What were your experiences if you've done something similar to this? This position is with a State Farm agent.

Account Manager/Customer Success Manager in SaaS?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:20 PM PST

    Hello,

I currently work in a Finance/Wall Street job but I'm looking for a change. I just do not find it interesting and don't feel motivated and am always burnt out. I wanted to find a more client facing role for a company that I can really get behind, where I'd have more skin in the game. I was thinking Account Manager/Customer Success Manager type of role in the FinTech Startup field, possibly in data or ad tech. If anyone can give me any insight into this type of job, and what your overall thought on me potentially switching over into this role, please help me out.

    Few Q's:

    1. Would it be hard for me to break into, and would this be a tough transition from a fast paced, Finance job?
    2. What estimate of a compensation would I be likely to receive in NY/SF?
    3. Do you think I'd be taking a big risk/taking a step backwards by switching into this role?
    4. What kind of person thrives in this role?
    5. Pros and cons to this role?
    6. Any other feedback or advice or anything really would be appreciated!

    Thanks

I’m now a Sales Manager! Pls help!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 06:33 PM PST

So after a company wide restructuring, I've been promoted to sales manager for a small roofing and remodeling company I've been with for the past two years. We are in the middle of a company restructuring and need some input on compensation.

    1. How much should I be making as a sales manager and what should my pay structure consist of? We are a $2m company and are growing. I will be in charge of all marketing decisions, social media, etc. and be in charge of sales guys. Basically all things sales will run through me. Currently I'm the only guy selling but will be in charge of hiring and training new guys as well.

    2. How should I structure sales compensation? Currently, or sales people make 8% of the total sale and are 100% commission based.

TLDR: Recently prompted sales manager needs input with figuring out compensation for me and my potential employees.

When do you give the price quote ?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 09:25 PM PST

So I've been reading up on some stuff and basically found out that giving a price quote right away is a big mistake.

I emailed a prospect at a big firm and she got back to me - so she's definitely interested.

I tried to schedule an in person meeting and fly out but she said she would prefer a price quote via email first.

What's the best way and when in the b2b sales process do you give out the quote ?
