Shooting results in my car being totaled!

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:18 PM PST

I have a red Nissan Sentra with 90k miles, and this morning as seen in the video a black male gets out of his car and just starts shooting at the driver! The driver floors it and crashes into my neighbors car, which then impacts my vehicle! We got in touch with the drivers insurance and made a claim. They are stating that they will not cover because the insured was in fear of his life and therefor they are not liable and the shooter would be liable!! I dont know what to do and would like to ask you guys for any tips or ideas on how I should proceed? Im only 19 years old and this was my only way of transportation to work and school. I only have liability on the car. PLEASE HELP!!!

Service Master billing insurance for work not performed

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 04:05 PM PST

I recently got a supplemental check from my insurance company with the bill from Service Master. The bill is full of work that was not performed. Including a line item in every room for detailed HEPA vacuuming (even in unaffected rooms!), when I know for a fact they never vacuumed.

My insurance company seems to be so swamped that they are just handing out this money without really checking but my concern is that I will hit my coverage limit if I keep letting these overcharges slide. Who should I bring this up to? I'm mainly worried that Service Master isn't going to take it off and will put me in collections if I refuse to pay for the line items that weren't done.

Appraisal for Insurance of a large autographed item

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:38 AM PST

Friend of mine is in the military and lives in Germany. He created a full size wooden replica of Ice from Game of Thrones and had most of the cast autograph the piece. He is now moving back to the states and needs an appraisal for this item for insurance purposes if it is ever lost, damaged, or stolen.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/oAcDFI6

The item does not fit your standard autographed piece and the insurance wants an appraisal.

Looking for information about Underwriting Service Technician job- considering a job offer

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:23 AM PST

This is an entry level job is at an insurance company- personal and commercial lines.
Specifically, can anyone give examples of the sort of math you have to do? The posting calls for "good math skills". I don't love math, and I've never been great at it. That's the problem.

    Wind Damaged Playset

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 12:15 PM PST

We have (had?) a play set in our backyard. The gusty winds knocked it over and its in 20 pieces.

Is this something homeowners would typically cover? It wasn't terribly expensive ($1000 new, less than a year old)? Worth filing a claim? Will it increase our rates if we do?

Mortgage Coverage Protection in the Case of Unemployment? (Washington State)

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 10:28 PM PST

Hi, I'm curious if anyone has found any reputable companies that offer insurance to cover mortgage payments in the event of unemployment. I'm not interested in life insurance that covers mortgage payments - if I die my lender can take a flying leap. I'm looking for insurance that will cover my mortgage payments for six months or a year if I've been laid off. But I can't seem to find any "big name" companies in the US that offer this product. Thanks in advance.

Insuring a car from registered in another state?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 10:15 PM PST

Hi there! I'm am literally seconds away from paying for my car insurance policy, but I realized that I never mentioned to my agent that my car is currently registered in another state. I live in California and will be registering my car here a couple of weeks, but will this affect the policy I am about to purchase? Will this prevent my agent from selling me the policy?

Scooter (Motorcycle) Insurance Minimum for Umbrella Policy?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 09:44 PM PST

I have an email out to our agent about this, but thought I'd get a quicker answer from this group.

We have a $250k/$500k liability minimum for our cars as a requirement for our umbrella policy. Looking at the documents, it specifies automobiles, not vehicles. It also lists recreational vehicles (assuming motorhomes?) and watercraft.

Do you think the same minimum would apply to a 150cc scooter? The insurance category is motorcycles, even if it really isn't one. I can't imagine doing over $100k worth of damage with a 290 lb scooter, but of course want everything to be on the up-and-up.

    Thanks!

My Subaru Crosstrek XV was hit from behind.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:40 AM PST

I'm currently in a situation where I have to wait for the other persons insurance to call me (adjuster). How do to go about when talking to the adjuster. This person is at fault. I also want depreciation $ and need a rental vehicle for work and school.

My vehicle isn't in to bad of shape from what I was able to see. Unclear if the frame is bent. I currently don't have the vehicle. It not in my possession due to tow truck sending it to car lot, and I need to wait to a day to send to auto body shop because it's Sunday here in UTAH... besides that I know for a fact the dude who hit me is fucked and I shouldn't pay a dime for anything. Really my main concern is a vehicle to commute to work and school. Help! Any advice?

    Thanks

Surgery is supposed to be paid 100%, but now I've gotten a huge bill for anesthesia [United Healthcare, Ohio]

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 04:44 AM PST

I have United Healthcare. They cover the surgery at 80%, however my husband's employer, who we have insurance through, pays the surgery 100%. We followed all their rules and it was preapproved, etc.

Well, United Healthcare has somehow come to the conclusion that they would cover everything but anesthesia. They magically decided that the anesthesiologist was out of network and they arent paying the doctor. And we just got a bill for $3000, according to my EOB we have another $6000 bill on the way.

    Here are the facts:

    • You can't have surgery without anesthesia.

    • I didnt have any say over my anesthesiologist and didnt even meet him until the day of surgery.

    • He is employed by an in network hospital which was on my preapproval.

    • Even if he was truly out of network, I have out of network coverage, they just pay less. This claim was entirely outright rejected.

What concerns me is that with all the obvious facts above, it still somehow got past insurance, past my husband's employer and past the anesthesiologist billing office and a bill was sent to me. I feel like I'm at their mercy and if insurance is like, "lol nah, we don't feel like paying this" is there really anything I can do about it? Where do I even start?

    Coordination of benefits 3 plans

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 05:18 PM PST

So I have a bit of a complex question for you all. I have been insured by Anthem Blue Cross of CA (PPO) through my school since September 2014 and that coverage went through September 2018. I was also on my parents' Kaiser plan, from November 2017 through December 2018. These first two are in California. My current coverage is a Blue Care Network of Michigan plan through my university. That began August 2018. So to recap, from November 2017 through July 2018, I was covered by Kaiser and Anthem. In August and September 2018, I was covered by Kaiser, Anthem, and BCN. From October 2018 through December 2018 I was covered by Kaiser and BCN.

I am now in dispute between these three carriers. Anthem has taken back almost all payments since November 2017. BCN has taken back payments since the beginning of coverage. They both say I need to bill another insurance before I bill them. Anthem claims it is secondary to all other insurance. BCN says it will coordinate benefits with other plans per Michigan's Coordination of Benefits act and will be secondary if there is no COB language. I have requested the Evidence of Coverage from Kaiser but a copy I found online (not my plan, but they are probably all similar) says the same thing but obviously for California rules.

The Anthem PPO always covered more, and I paid for it, and my campus student health would always refer me out to its own providers, and was more convenient. So I used that almost exclusively. I never even really wanted Kaiser. The only time I used Kaiser was to bill it as secondary for emergency services to avoid copay/coinsurance. I submitted a COB form to Anthem back in November/December when I got the Kaiser plan and never heard back and they never informed me they were secondary until now.

So now I have to deal with all of these providers. I plan on seeing a (freely available to me) attorney about this but this is likely to be a little complex to them. Couple questions for you all...

    1. Is the Anthem PPO allowed to say "we are secondary to all plans"? That does not seem fair to other plans. Is that not illegal?
    2. How would coordination go if this provision is not allowed? My understanding is that plans in which you are the primary subscriber are primary to plans under your parents, so Anthem would be primary and Kaiser would be secondary.
    3. If this provision is allowed, and Kaiser is primary to Anthem, do I really have to play along and bill Kaiser for out of network office visits that I can 100% guarantee they will not pay?
    4. Am I correct in telling BCN that they are primary due to the coordination of benefits provisions in their and Kaiser's Evidence of Coverage? Since I am the primary insured through my employer on the BCN and Kaiser is my parents'.
    5. Can either Anthem or BCN deny claims for not using Kaiser's network first if Kaiser is primary? If so, what legal recourse do I have?
    6. What should I do next? Contact the insurers? Just contact each provider and ask to rebill?
    7. What if providers refuse to take Kaiser info and bill them? Are they required to do this as contractees of Anthem or BCN? Or am I stuck fronting the money and seeking reimbursement? Or can I submit a claim before payment on my own?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Use of Wireless telephone ticket in NJ affect on car insurance?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:16 PM PST

I got pulled over today while using my cell phone while driving. I was setting up my GPS which I can't do through bluetooth. I realize this was incredibly stupid/dangerous and there is no excuse.

I plan to plead guilty and accept whatever fine the court gives me, lesson learned. I am wondering what impact it will have on my insurance though? Anyone have any experience with this?

I have a nearly clean record. Got a speeding ticket about 5 years ago but nothing since then or before.

If this breaks any rules, please remove. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Edit: Just adding more info. Have a 2016 Civic that I am currently paying off and very good (if not excellent) credit. Not sure if that affects anything.

car insurance for kids of divorced parents

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 04:53 PM PST

    Hi,

My daughter spends 1/2 time with me and 1/2 time with my ex. We would like the daughter to be able to drive my car at my house and her mom's car when at her moms house.

Should I be able to add my daughter to just my insurance and she can then drive both cars?

Since she won't have a single primary car, I am not sure how insurance would work.

    i appreciate any insight.

Both me and ex have USAA

Diminished value claim on 2 week old car?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 03:56 PM PST

This last week I was rear ended by someone driving around with bald tires during winter season in Minnesota. Its at least going to need a new bumper, and possible a new backup camera. They have Geico and I have their adjuster looking at the vehicle to estimate repairs this upcoming Wednesday. The particular vehicle is a 2019 Veloster N with the performance package, with only 1000 miles on it and dealer plates, which was only recently released in the US around a month ago. Its meant to be the performance/enthusiast version of the Veloster Turbo. Now obviously being a new car I lost a few thousand dollars once I left the dealership, but I am curious about diminished value given the circumstances. A performance oriented car so new and with dealers selling them for a few thousand over MSRP, I feel that my car has lost value after this accident and if I did try to sell it now nobody would want to buy one with 1000 miles and an already dirty carfax. Its not a corvette or a Porsche but its similar in class to a Focus ST or WRX. I of course accepted to be under water when I left the lot but it is frustrating to think that somebody else's negligence maybe have put under another few thousand.

Do I have any sort of claim for diminished value? Looking online, there does not seem to be any requirement that I sell my car and prove a loss to make a claim. But there is a statute of limitations that I can ask for this value if I sell the car within 6 years. My current plan is to ask this adjuster to estimate diminished value while they are inspecting my car and see where that leaves me. If that goes nowhere, or I am unsatisfied by their offer, I can simply keep all my receipts, communications, claim information, etc about this accident, and IF I sell or trade in the car within 6 years, I simply take the documents given to me that show I was given less due to the accident, then file at that point. For example, if I trade into Carmax 3 years later, and they say its worth 20k, but only 18k because of the bad carfax and I accept, I assume I could at that point claim that loss.

Subrogation - Insurance has denied coverage for an accident involving a scooter

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 03:55 PM PST

Hi everyone! I was hoping to get some advice to avoid hassle and/or opening myself up to a major headache.

Back story: I was riding an electric scooter from (Nationally known scooter company), fell off, and suffered a pretty severe injury. I'm recovering, but it has been a several month process requiring doctor visits, PT, imaging, missed work, etc. . To complicate things slightly my work changed insurers at the start of this year

Last year I had all of my medical bills covered by work insurance, no problem (so I thought).

This year my first visit with my new insurance was denied after the visit. They said on the denial that they automatically deny any claim that might be accident related until I provide them a bunch of information including location, a descriptor of the accident, if it involved a motor vehicle, etc. they said that after reviewing the information they "might" approve coverage.

Somewhat curiously shortly after this visit my old insurance sent me a letter asking for me to give them a bunch of the same information however there is nothing on the letter saying I need to return it.

So I have a couple of questions.

    1. Is there any reasonable reason my current insurance couple/should deny medical coverage since I fell off a scooter? It was very surprising to see them deny coverage after the fact. I honestly didn't know insurances could deny coverage because of this.

    2. A couple of the questions asked if this was a motor vehicle accident. I don't know how to answer that. I don't know if a small electric scooter is considered an MV.

    3. Am I under any obligation to respond to queries from the old insurance company since they have already paid out claims?

I'm willing to answer any follow up questions.

    Ice dam damage in Iowa

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 03:24 PM PST

We had a baby early this winter, and I haven't had much time to dedicate to my normal house upkeep. Iowa has been hit harder than usual with uncommon cold and high precipitation.

We now have big ice dams on our eaves and on the drip edges of our gables. It's a 1.5 story cape cod style. Water has come in above the windows.

My question: is this typically covered with homeowner's insurance, and what all might be. I'm worried about: the insulation in my attic and walls; drywall and lathe and plaster; wood rot; mold; and the roof shingles and sheathing.

Aside from that, any help or advice is welcome.

Feel like Insurance is too high.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 08:23 AM PST

With Geico at the moment and pay $278 monthly for state minimum and 500 comp and col (loan requires no higher than 500). I feel like my auto insurance is through the roof. Just purchased a used 2017 Mazda3 sport. I understand that Louisiana has the highest premiums in the country but this high? I have shopped around the last few days with progressive coming in at about $255, the absolute lowest is Root at $201 but not 100% sure if I'm comfortable with them. A few key points about me:

27 Male Bad credit (started rebuilding process late last year) Live in Louisiana 70506 No accident or ticket in 10 years 1 lapse about 2 years ago for a couple days (was my mistake)

Could the lapse and credit history be what's affecting me the most? Or does this seem like an okay figure to be paying based off what information I've given?

Any help would be appreciated, am actively shopping around and researching. Just wish my insurance wasn't as high as my car note lol.
