I just closed my first official client at 40/hr and I got a tip! Wooo Posted: 23 Feb 2019 04:09 PM PST Started a dog training practice last week on a whim. Friend I met at dog park saw my dog and encouraged me to try and market my ability to tame these little fellas and I went for it. I met a middle aged couple in line at a mcd when they became enthralled by my little buddy patiently waiting outside not tied to anything and I just tried using the little charisma I have and bam! Got a date. Went to their house, they brought out this little monster that was going nuts but in the span of an hour I calmed him down 100 to 0 and they were so impressed. Agreed to everything I said after that. [link] [comments] |
As a small business owner, do you attend networking events or go to meetups? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 08:42 AM PST I run a small software development consulting company and I'm trying to become better at networking. Do you ever attend meetups or networking events or do you find them to be a waste of your time? My success so far in attending these types of events has been less than successful and I get the impression they are largely a waste. [link] [comments] |
Side Hustle—To DBA or not to DBA? Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:15 AM PST So I'm starting a side hustle selling my artwork on various products through Red Bubble. I'm just wondering, do I need to register my red bubble handle as a DBA with my state (Pennsylvania)? [link] [comments] |

Do you think social media is useful for your business? Posted: 24 Feb 2019 02:26 AM PST Hi guys, I recently started my first venture of a digital marketing agency, after years of marketing my own pages on Instagram, Facebook etc. So I know exactly how to grow an Instagram page to 1000 followers fairly quickly (it depends on page however) or run Facebook ads. Currently I'm looking for small businesses that would like to allow me to manage and market their businesses for free, in exchange as them being testimonials/case studies for my business. I can manage social media by doing the following: curate posts to post, post regularly (after given pictures), create social media accounts, produce organic growth and improve branding. I think social media is very left out when it comes to small businesses, but can create amazing growth! Let me know if you're interested, Thanks guys [link] [comments] |
Where to get custom or nice looking Benches and Chairs for cafe Posted: 24 Feb 2019 12:25 AM PST Ive owned my business for a while now and wanted to expand by getting some custom or nice looking benches and tables that are made of wood, any website recommendations [link] [comments] |
Paying yourself from a single member LLC Posted: 23 Feb 2019 06:25 PM PST I recently switched my business from a sole proprietor to an LLC. I have a business checking account and a personal checking account. Is is necessary to have to use an accounting software (such as quickbooks) to pay myself?I understand the benefit of paying myself as an employee and paying in taxes throughout the year. I would assume since it is a single member LLC, the taxes at the end of the year would report the same as a sole prop. Can I just do an electronic transfer to my personal account and just report on the profits at the end of the year? Are there any tax implications? [link] [comments] |
Do you find Instagram valuable to your business? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:15 AM PST If I provided one month of free Instagram services to your business, would you take it in exchange for me using it as a case study to start my agency? I would create a content plan with you, curate the content, write post copy, send to you for review/approval, post 5x/week, engage with your nice for an hour a day, even run an ad campaign for you (you cover media costs). If so, what kind of business are you in? [link] [comments] |
If you were in a country of the THIRD WORLD, which small business will you start? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 05:14 PM PST I'm 24M from Morocco, i would like to start a small business. Any ideas please! [link] [comments] |
Simple app to track sales / profits? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 08:27 AM PST Hello! I have a small uses book cart and am looking for a very simple app to keep track of inventory / sales / profit margins. Everything I'm finding is WAY more complex than I need with a lot of extra features that will just get in their way. Is there anything you guys can recommend that would be a step above recording in a spreadsheet or literal notebook? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2019 05:09 PM PST So the idea is to create a software/app for a loyalty program for small local stores and businesses. This aims at those repeat customers and will want them to come back to the same store to buy more. I know big companies already have this kind of stuff. But if we can make the app affordable I feel this can be a good idea. Your opinions, thoughts, and challenges you feel someone starting this kind of business can face? Note: Considering to start this business in a populous country like India. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2019 05:01 PM PST Currently I have been working for a year under the tutelage of an older small business owner. I was brought on by him last year with the intentions of eventually taking over the company. Things are going well and it's really feeling like I'm expanding the company and getting a good customer base/following. The original plan is work for a few years with him until he's ready to retire(he's 73) and when I'm comfortable enough with our current clients then I take over. He's actually the guy who sold his first company (that he spent 40 years building)to my family 7 years ago. I've known him for a very long time and I trust him. With all that being said how should I protect myself and make sure that his word is kept true? We don't have anything in writing and it's all word of mouth; this is how it was done with the sale of the first company. What legal documents/steps should I take next? How could I possibly approach him regarding this? [link] [comments] |
Turning a hobby into side income into potential full time income? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 04:55 PM PST Anyone currently or has turned a hobby into a part time business? I'd like to try something really small like selling locally, or selling ebay/amazon/etsy. And try to turn my hobbies into a small part time income. How was your progression? [link] [comments] |
How do you charge late fees or get payment on time? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 04:11 PM PST I operate a small business where my clients are invoiced for a monthly service. My clients are consistently late in paying and thats with a 15 day payment window. My invoicing software sends 5 and 10 day late notices but that's it. A good example is if i bill on the 1st my clients have until the 15th to pay but often times pay towards the end of the month or even after their next bill is sent out making payments 15 to 20 days late. How do you go about enforcing a penalty without pissing clients off or what is the best approach to take? [link] [comments] |
Need Advice on Selling Card Sets? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 04:05 PM PST After reading the sub, I don't know if this belongs here as you guys all seem to be very into tech-like businesses and such, but anyway. I want to start up a business in photography but, for now, I'd like to start selling the cards I make with my photographs. By "make" I mean "glue to blank cards" but still, you know what I mean. I'm going to be taking them to local craft shows and such and sell them on local Facebook groups to begin with, then maybe sell more generalised and "not my city" photo cards on Etsy in the near future. Can any of you offer me any advice on pricing? I've got an Imgur post up if anyone wants to see the cards, though rules seem to state I can't put a link to the images in the actual post itself. I'll be selling them in packs of 5 for the time being, until I move over onto Etsy. I'd also try taking better shots to advertise the cards, of course. The pics of the cards I took were quick "I need these for Reddit advice" kind of photos. I'm just starting out with selling and business stuff, so please be kind. I also posted this over on r/crafts to see if they can also offer some advice. [link] [comments] |
What can I do now to build myself to become a business owner? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 03:03 PM PST Not sure if it's the right place correct me if not I'm 19 from the UK have a business diploma from college. I wish to open one of the following club, bar, restaurant or cafe. Leaning more towards the first two. Since I did business I have basic knowledge. But I was thinking what are ways I can prepare myself to eventually open a business. I feel like I'm waiting to be older and magically then I'll be prepared. However I've come to realise sitting around isn't going to get me anywhere I need to start working on it now. I have no money whatsoever so can't really fund myself not now anyways. Don't get me wrong I plan to save up Where could I get management experience ? Should I start writing a business plan even though I doubt in the next two years I'll be able to open a business ? Do you advice studying business further at university ? What are some habits or personality traits that would make me a good businessperson ? I forgot to mention I've worked in a kitchen for just under 3 years and currently studying catering at college which entails learning FOH and BOH [link] [comments] |
First steps to take for creating a clothing brand? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 02:36 PM PST Hi folks! Don't usually post but I'm in the middle of creating a clothing brand but I'm not 100% sure what steps i have to take as far as business licensing/documentation/ etc. Is there any good guides or youtube channels that give a good explanation of the process for a startup clohting brand to take? It would be a huge help! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Feb 2019 09:55 AM PST I'm starting a digital marketing agency and I'm still a little stuck in one area of my business plan. I have the idea of working with only 1000 clients, since I want to take them to the top, because if you notice only a few companies rise above the rest. That's my mentality behind it, how would I make money? Raising prices But on the other hand I'm wondering is this a skewed way of thinking considering more and more companies will be joining the market and eventually one the top dogs will be out classed. Should I grow my business with my current strategy or should I go big and do things indefinitely? [link] [comments] |
How to keep track of business membership customers? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 01:22 PM PST We have a small retail business that allow customers to pay a deposit and get a discount. They buy our product and leave without paying until the balance runs out in the future. The next time they come in, we deduct their total for that day and write it down on our sophisticated paper and pen method. So far, we have had no issues with our customers with this method. I wanted to ask if there is a better system like using an app. But, because we have to ask their last names, my parents have to search through several index cards while the customer waits in front of them. Should we keep the paper and pen method? [link] [comments] |
Should I take a break from this private label busienss? Posted: 23 Feb 2019 05:10 AM PST Guys, I need your honest opinion. I have a full time job as a marketer and for the last year and a half I've been working on a side business. I've been trying to launch a private label brand in the food industry. Something major I didn't think about initially. The investment it would take to actually grow and scale this business. There were a few difficulties along the way. I spent around 2,800$ already and that doesn't include the intial cost of buying from the manufacturer, which will cost a lot more and marketing. While I definitely want to start this business, I came to a situation where I probably won't have enough money to truly scale it. I'm talking about buying around 150K in bulk. The profit margins are pretty low (around 13%). A friend advised me to pause this project and focus on opening a service that will help me later on. What do you think? Pause it and focus on something else? Collect more money? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2019 12:36 PM PST Hello guys, I have a properly registered high-volume payment gateway suitable for "high risk" businesses. It can also be used for Low risk business too but a high risk business can benefit more from it since it processes at a flat rate of only 3.5% globally, it has no limit per transaction and no limit for the daily cummulative amount,no prepaid chargeback fees. To date , it doesn't have any chargeback record. You can withdraw cash straight to your bank in 5days (One of the best payout schedules ever given its friendliness to high volume transactions.) Send me a private message if interested. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:52 AM PST Hello. I'm writing because I work part time in a family owned small repair business. We see a decent volume of repairs, maybe a 120 a week. On all repairs we offer a 90 parts and labor warranty. We have on average a 3% claim rate on the warranties, which adds up to about $500-1000, considering lost revenue, and the time and materials for expenses. My question is this: Are there any types of tax write offs or deduction that we are allowed to claim ? The business is in Oregon, if that makes any difference. [link] [comments] |
Do llc businesses have executives Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:47 AM PST Everyone knows corporations have a executive board but what about working for a LLC small buisness is there a chance I can become a executive in one of these businesses I am applying for. I am interviewing for a small start up interior buisness based out of Dallas tx.They have a team of like 5 people and I figure if I put in hard work and improvement they can make me a executive as they expand and capable to do so...but not sure how these small business startups are because many businesses are primarily llc .On Instagram I see tons and tons of merchandise companies and I don't think I have ever seen a strong executive power within them but I have not really seen there structures behind the scenes either. What would a business even gain in having a executive board now that I think of it.
