Got hit by a car running a red light, insurance claims its 50-50 fault Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:55 PM PST My girlfriend and I were hit by a car on Monday in Wisconsin. The weather was obviously very bad and the roads were awful. We were at a red light and when it turned green we began to drive through the intersection when a car came from the right side and hit us hard. The light was green for about 3 seconds when we were hit. My girlfriend does not have collision insurance but this seemed like it was clearly not her fault so it should be covered by the other driver (in wisconsin it is illegal to not have insurance that covers the other car in the accident afaik). The other drivers insurance got back to her today and said they have not gotten a statement from the other driver yet but have decided she should have looked to see the car coming before entering the intersection and therefore she is half at fault and will only be getting 50% of the value. This seems incredibly wrong and I dont understand how they can possibly come to that conclusion, especially without getting a statement from the other driver. The road the other driver was coming from is a 3-lane one-way so it would have been impossible to see it coming behind the other 2 lanes of cars. I appreciate any thought or advice. New job in Kansas. How to compare network coverage? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 03:04 AM PST Relocating to Kansas as a state employee. The coverage seems to be 100% identical in terms of the plan but it says choose BCBS or Aetna. We will need everything: PCP for both adults (although we've never declared one before). Pediatrician for 2 kids under 4yo. Low-level Mental healthcare for 1 adult. ENT for at least 1 kiddo. OB/maternity care/delivery in 2019. Pedi and adult dentist (well visits/cleaning for 2 kids and 1 adult- 1 adult with crowns). Vision care for 1 adult(annual exam plus contacts/glasses). And decent hospital /urgent care access because kids. We do drive/travel a bit, and would leave the state 4-6x/year while staying in the region. What's the best way for me to asses the networks if I have not picked providers yet? To me it seems Cart >horse to choose docs I can't/haven't met before we move and then choose the insurance knowing the docs could opt out anytime. So is it just #s? Looking at which has a larger network of doctors? Any advice greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Geico made determination on auto accident before getting police report - next step? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:06 PM PST So a car was pulled over on the right side of the road, and came out of the spot to cut across and make a left turn. We contacted the driver side door with our right front bumper (corner). The other driver initially took the blame, but apparently told a different story to their insurance, because we received a notice the day after we were called for details stating we were at fault. They reported we were following behind and hit them while they were making a left turn. The police report shows the damage on our front right and their driver's side, making their description of events pretty much impossible. Photos show the same. Not sure of our next step. Moving from insurance producer to claims Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:49 PM PST As the title states, I have been working in an agents office, providing customer service, and of course selling policies. I am currently in a training class to work auto claims for the same company. Any current auto claim reps have any advice for a newbie? I have a strong knowledge of the policies and a general idea of the claim process from working in the office, but things are very different on this side of the company. Looking for any advice to help me excel in this new role! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:05 PM PST I hope this is the correct subreddit. I wish I was more knowledgeable about situations like this, but I am not. So Reddit, please help me understand better. My girlfriend owns a car with a high interest loan. In December, another driver blew through an intersection and hit her. The other driver was found at fault and ticketed for the accident. The car has been deemed a loss by the insurance company. It turns out that both my girlfriend and other driver have the same insurance company. The insurance company is pressuring her to accept a settlement that does not even cover the remaining balance on the loan. So this would leave her: A) Still liable for a couple of thousand dollars of the loan B) Without a car. She is a single mother and this is a huge problem for her. Here are my questions: I have always had the impression that if you are in an accident (the assumption here is that the other driver is insured) that is the other persons fault, then the insurance should provide a path to bringing you back at least to the point where you were at the point of the accident. I.e. in this case – having a working vehicle. I mean, what happens to people who buy a new car and three weeks later it is totaled by someone else? Are they out the vehicle and have nothing to show for it? What should she be expecting at this point? What should the insurance company be liable for? Should she have to settle for a situation where she still owes on the loan AND no longer has a vehicle? Any help would be appreciated. Note: The accident occurred in Indiana. Thank you to all of you who take the time to read this. EDIT: Thank you everyone taking the time to reply. I will pass these along to her. Not what I had hoped to hear, but some really great information being presented. Thanks again, everyone. [link] [comments] |
Delivering baby any day now, eligible for Medicaid but insurance never got back to me? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 05:54 PM PST I'm 2 days past my due date (January 30th) and I applied for Medicaid a while ago (almost 2 months ago) and on the healthcare website it said a I'm eligible for Medicaid and that the next step is for someone to give me a call to discuss further details about coverage but I have yet to receive a call/voicemail from a representative? I've tried calling but nobody has given me a straight answer on what I have to do. I would assume that I have to send in tax documents/forms proving my financials but I don't know who to talk to or where to go about doing everything. I'm a NJ resident by the way. Speeding ticket classified as "Careless or Improper Driving" Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:44 PM PST I was driving 12mph over and received a speeding ticket. Progressive classified this as "Careless or Improper Driving" on my renewal/rate increase. Is this normal? [link] [comments] |
Help! Me and my boyfriend want to share car insurance but there's a problem Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:09 PM PST So long story short, I got a car in a will and my boyfriend because of medical bills doesn't have a car. So since I have two cars now we decided that we share them and share car insurance. He's been on his dad's car insurance till now and when we tried getting quotes an at fault came up for him. It was a car accident that ended in everyone being considered not at fault and since neither wanted to use insurance they called it even, but there was a police report and it was sent to insurance who said they'd keep it at not at fault. He sent a form for them to review and fix it, but since he's not a customer anymore they said they would not review it. Are they allowed to do that? Is there anything we can do, it drove insurance up by about $100 a month! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 10:05 PM PST Just curious. If you rear end someone and the police happen to show up and give you a ticket, does this "hurt" you more than if you just rear end someone and the police aren't called? Of course you are 100 percent at fault for the collision either way. [link] [comments] |
Getting contacts with my parent's insurance without them knowing Posted: 01 Feb 2019 09:05 PM PST Hey Reddit, I am a 19-year-old college student living with my parents. I've wanted contacts for almost as long as I've had glasses, but for whatever reason, my parents disapprove of this. Basically, I want to get contacts fitted without them knowing. Months ago I tried to make an appointment with my local eye physicians, and they told me that If I waited until January next year, insurance would be able to cover part of the cost. Called early January, and they asked for Insurance information and whatnot. Turns out that I need an Insurance card, or at least the information the insurance card has on it. Should I just pay the costs upfront? Or should I try to get the insurance information? And if so, how? [link] [comments] |
Geico - How much will my auto insurance come down? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:56 PM PST While I was under Geico, I got in accidents twice, both at fault. Geico told me that the accident surcharges will last three years. I had full coverages with $500 deductibles, comp/coll. After getting in accidents twice, I increased my deductibles to keep it affordable for me. This June 2019 marks three full years since my first at-fault accident. My insurance has been steadily dropping, slowly but surely, but is there a rough estimate by how much insurance may drop? My next accident surcharge should fall off in February 2020 as well. Not sure if this all matters, but I will be 32 this June and I currently pay $161/mo for '09 CRV EX, financed. My new 6-mo premium kicks in this April. I'm also planning on new vehicle this year, so I'm trying to get the feels of how much my insurance may look like later this year. [link] [comments] |
If I don’t have collision coverage, will my car insurance still advocate for my property? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:07 PM PST Say I'm in a wreck with one other driver and both our cars are damaged, I believe the other driver is at fault. Their insurance disagrees. I have liability coverage, so I know my insurance will attempt to defend against any lawsuit. But, since I don't have collision, would they even attempt to collect the value of my damaged property from the other driver's? Or would it be up to me to sue them myself? I know they definitely won't pay for damages to my car that are deemed my fault, but I'm curious if they'd help recover any of my losses if it's not. [link] [comments] |
Question about The Institutes Online Courses vs. Textbook Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:09 AM PST I'm curious if anyone has experience with The Institutes Online Courses vs. Textbook learning for CPCU. I've been out of the game for a bit so I've only ever used textbook. Looks like in lieu of a textbook you just get the online course work. Advantages? Disadvantges? Anyone have any experience? Any help or suggestions are appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Travel Insurance for UK Youth Mobility Visa. Posted: 01 Feb 2019 07:41 PM PST Hi I'm looking for some advice on what kind of travel insurance to get. I've been looking around at policies and there is a lot out there, but multi-trip and couples travel insurance seems like it might be what is best for my plans? I understand that in the UK i will be covered by the NHS so i don't think i need much in the way of insurance while in the UK, but i will be traveling a lot around Europe. My specific circumstances:

Young driver, lower insurance what to do? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 07:40 PM PST I'm kind of in a rough spot right now. I really need a car next year and the im going to get a hyundai genesis 5.0 r-spec (color:black) I've been looking through different insurance but the only quotes i can get right now is from Einsurance and progressive and WOW the prices are these are crazy. (einsurance: $500+, progressive: $700+) The problem that im having is that, I dont have any co-signers,didnt or never had an insurance plan, first-time driver 0-6 month having an license... I can get all the discounts (good student, defensive driving lesson, car monitoring, anti-theft) But the biggest problem is that i will have to finance the car. What can i do? Maybe my local insurance company? "12 month auto insurance: $3,316.00" Roughly $275 monthly? NJM...What should i do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 07:40 PM PST I live in Tennesse, 30/male no accidents, 1 stop sign violation. I finance my 2014 Focus with 56k miles on it. The payoff date is 2024, $13,000 left. I'm required to carry: Collision and Comprehensive or Fire, Theft and Combined Additional Coverage and Maximum Deductibles - $500. Currently, my cheapest option is through Progressive. My coverage is: BI/PD 25/50/15 UMBI 25/50 UMPD 15/ $200 ded Comp/Coll $500 ded/$500ded GAP max 25% Roadside Assistance I pay about $770/6 months. I have discounts for a paperless, multi-policy, online quote, and auto pay. I'm signing up for snapshot soon for the discount. Basically, if I lost my car tomorrow will I have enough to pay off my loan and any money to put down for another car from the insurance policy? [link] [comments] |
Minor accident. Should I even bother? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:51 PM PST So I just got into a minor accident. I was not at fault, I was parked at a red light and rear-ended. The damage was minor it was mostly cosmetic to the paint job. So I have a couple questions, some specific to the situation and some for future reference. So specifically would the at-fault party's insurance cover a paint job? And then my more general question for this situation and also future reference: if I'm not at fault do I need to pay my deductible or does the other insurance company take care of everything? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:08 PM PST Hi, I recently got in an auto accident and when I contacted my insurance company about it they told me that their was a lapse in my coverage on the day of the accident due to my insurance needing to be renewned, therefore they are refusing to cover it. However, there was no lapse in my coverage, I have paid it every single month and my renewal due date isn't until Feb 17th. I just don't know what I should do from this point since they are refusing to help. I live in san diego CA [link] [comments] |
Help!! I rear ended a car going 10mph and the person called 911 and was taken away in an ambulance.. Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:02 PM PST The accident happened in Iowa where the roads were slick and frozen. The car in front of me slammed on the breaks to try and allow a car in the opposite land to turn across our lane. I slammed on my breaks as well but of course slid into them. Luckily we were driving slow and I hit them at approximately 10mph. The damage was very minimal, a small crack in their bumper, nothing to my car. I was comforting the driver and they said they were sorry for slamming on the breaks and knew it was a mistake. I waited for the cops and EMS with them. They said they felt a bit of discomfort in their neck and blurry vision. Anyways, the cops came and EMS took her to the ED. I was told that since there were no other accidents in the city within the past 2-3 hours it was completely my fault. I received a 195 dollar ticket. Is there any way I can fight the citation? What happens now since they went to the ED? Will I be responsible for those payments or will my insurance? Can they sue me for damages? Thanks, all. [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance switch and claim question Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:29 AM PST Not sure if this is the best place to post. If not please let me know. So this morning I called my insurance provider to cancel insurance as I decided to go with another company for lower rates. Of course about 2 hours after I make the change my wife calls and has slid into a snow bank resulting in about 1500 worth of damage to the front end(called my body guy and got a quote from pics). That's assuming there is no internal damage to drive shaft, steering, radiator, etc, obviously it will go up if anything else got whacked. So my question is should I make the claim with my old insurance that is still active until midnight tonight or go through my new insurance which started at 9am this morning? My deductable is $500 for that car on both polices if that's relevant info. Thanks for taking a look! Edit- Thanks for all the responses. Such a crappy day lol. At least nobody was hurt so that's really the important part of this whole unlucky situation. Second edit- Called both insurance companies. While the effective date on the new one states it is today, because the old does not run out until tomorrow(12am) the actual policy for the new does not start until then, because 2 policies wont run together. Which makes sense. Sorry if I'm getting all convoluted it's been a kinda long day lol. Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:53 AM PST This happened last week and I have an adjuster coming, but the rep I spoke to over the phone said "I don't think this is covered". The water spill was probably a week old before I had noticed because we don't go into the basement. It hit walls and carpet and there's now mold and the walls and carpet are trashed. The entire room will need to be gutted. Please, any advice is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:26 PM PST I went for an eye-exam in Nov 2018 to Target because it was convenient even though out-of-network. Now today I got a notice from VSP that they have denied a claim of $70 made by Target Optical and I would be paying it. A quick glance on Target Optical website shows no FAQ about claims https://www.targetoptical.com/to-us/faq [link] [comments] |
Companies that offer Landscaping General Liability + Garage keepers? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:03 PM PST Long story short - have a small business, 90% lawn/landscape/hard scape work. More and more clients wanting me to detail their vehicles. Many would like to have me pick it up from their work and return it when I'm done. Landscaping general liability obviously wont cover this - need garage keepers "addendum" to cover vehicle while it's in my possession. Every busines insurance I've spoken to wants me to carry two policies. One for landscaping, one for auto detailing. This is redundant- I would wind up with 4 million incidentals / 8 million aggregate in general liability between the two policies. I want to have one policy and add on the garage keepers part to keep vehicles and equipment in my possession covered. Otherwise I dont need all the other property coverage, extra liability, etc from an entire second policy. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? References to providers that might have a solution for me? Different types of policies I'm unaware of that may cover all operations on one policy? Please help, the insurance agents I speak to are clueless other than the guide line papers/typical responses they're allowed to give. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:43 PM PST Is there any risk in going with their recommended repair shop? They offer lifetime warranty on all repairs. Or is it better to go with a shop I find on my own? My only concerns are if they total out the car I owe more on it than I would get. And if they will try to cut costs by using second rate parts. I doubt the car is totaled, but am concerned.
