r/Stocks Technicals Tuesday - Jan 08, 2019 Posted: 08 Jan 2019 09:05 AM PST Feel free to talk about technical analysis here; post your arguments here and not in the current post. Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price. TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term. Intro to technical analysis by Stockcharts chartschool and their article on candlesticks If you have questions, please see the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: See our past daily discussions here. Samsung Shocks Investors With 18% Drop in Profit in the Fourth Quarter 2018 Posted: 07 Jan 2019 05:14 PM PST The South Korean tech giant predicted operating profit for the three months ended December was approximately 10.8 trillion Korean won ($9.67 billion), which was below the 13.2 trillion won that analysts predicted, and a 38.5 percent drop from the previous quarter. (CNBC) Looks like AAPL is not the only one who's struggling. [link] [comments] |

What to do with single share of Boeing from oneshare.com Posted: 08 Jan 2019 10:46 AM PST Back in 2009 my dad bought me a single share of Boeing for around $50. Boeing's stock price is now over $300. Should I cash it in? Is there even a practical way to do that? I believe oneshare.com is long gone. All I have is the framed certificate. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jan 2019 11:21 AM PST Am I paying taxes on net profit for the year as in for instance in the utmost simple form if I were to have traded twice in 1 year, first trade profited $5 second trade I lost $3, am I paying taxes on my net profit of $2, or because I had a capital gain at one point of a winning trade of $5 I have to pay taxes on $5? Common sense says to pay taxes on the net profit, but I've seen so many different variations I just need it straight forward. [link] [comments] |

Do you rebalance between your stock picks? If so, how often? Posted: 08 Jan 2019 01:29 PM PST So I've got an account dedicated to direct investing and my problem is that two of my picks are more volatile, so they've grown aggressively over the past few weeks and I'm wondering if I should reduce them in my portfolio so as to reduce risk. I'm wondering if anyone else does this or is it a silly approach? I'm generally trying to keep my picks equally weighted for now but I don't know if that's the best method. [link] [comments] |

Bid, ask, and volume calculations for low volume stocks Posted: 08 Jan 2019 12:50 PM PST I have an account with tdameritrade for my IRA and HSA. I also have an account with RH that I use to purchase shares of a few local (to me) companies. One of those companies is MDRR which is an REIT that had an IPO late last year. I currently have 3 buy limit orders for about ~40 shares. The highest one was 12 shares at $8.86, 4 of which were partially filled today. So I still have buy limit orders for ~35 shares to be filled. So now to my questions Why do both tda and [RH](blob:https://imgur.com/b32835d7-feeb-4e4b-a3dd-0d02535b54e1) show the bid as 0.01? Why does RH show the volume at 695 when tda shows it at 1,018. Because I was curious I checked throughout the day and I have not seen the bid price move from 0.01 despite there ostensibly being volume and RH showing the price at 9.20 and tda showing the price at 9.30. I even purchased 4 shares myself at $8.86. Did the platforms just not show the bids? I'm guessing that part of it has to do with the low volume, but it still doesn't make sense to me. anyone saving for DIS before Avengers comes out? Posted: 08 Jan 2019 12:46 PM PST Currently trying to save as much as I can to make my first foray into the stock market. Looking to buy DIS before Avengers End Game comes out. The way I see it, is they are about to basically print a billion dollars and I want in. Am I right to be thinking this? Anyone wanting to find the value increase for before and after Avengers Infinity War? [link] [comments] |
ONC, ONCY & ONC.WT What is everyone's opinion on this company these days? Posted: 08 Jan 2019 08:10 AM PST I have been holding many warrants for a long time now. I have a lot of confidence in this company but im wondering when the best time to unload them would be. Any advice is welcome. any tips on investing is welcome too as I am relatively new to investing. If you are wondering why warrants and not stocks, its because I like to gamble for much bigger payoffs. I have have done well in the past (with Theratechnologies, TH.TO) and trying to recreate this. Thanks everyone. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jan 2019 02:41 AM PST Hey guys, I'm new to the stocks and I'm looking to invest, I know the basics of the stock market but one thing I can't wrap my head around is how everyone seems to know every stock option. How can I learn about the best possible stocks to purchase? I know I gotta do my research but what exactly am I looking for? How do I tell a company has public stocks that have a possibility for growth? What stats/trends do I look for? How do I know what stocks to avoid? Do you guys just google random companies and select the ones that promise the best year? There has to be some sort of logic to this [link] [comments] |
I am going to receive a part of a company! Help! Posted: 08 Jan 2019 12:16 AM PST Hey there! It's my first time posting here! I have heard about people buying stocks, but not about receiving, say 10% of a stock because you work for them. How does this work? And if I receive a stock are there any risks? And how does it benefit me? [link] [comments] |
